Thank you Jim! I have been scouring the web for months trying to learn how to lower/disconnect the deck of my Husqvarna. Thanks to you, doing the work myself, I should be able to save lots of money in replacing the drive belt. Keep up the good work, and thanks!
This is a very well done video. The camera work and explanations of what needs to be done was exemplary. Also, no goofy music to ruin things. I would not be surprised it Husqvarna were to make use of this video for training purposes it is so well done. I am very well experienced in mechanics and engineering and this gave me everything that I wanted to know in advance of doing this project. There are no surprises that will make me utter certain impolite expletives toward the manufacturer, this time. LOL Thank you very much for a well done video.
I have the YTH18542 Husqvana and I suppose it's similar. Excellent, as it goes into details that Husqvana doesn't want you to know so that in order to buy additional warranties, parts there, etc. I/We can't thank you enough JIM. YOU make DIY easy.😀
Thank you for this video. I’m a single lady and I was able to follow your instructions. Hardest part was that clip on the cable. I don’t have strong fingers, so getting that through the whole was tough and took longer than everything else combined. Now that I’ve done it once, I’m sure the next time will be easier.
Thanks for the video. Awesome part is i just got my husqvarna rider from my uncle Jim and it needs new blades and a belt. So another Jim is helping me to get it fixed haha.
Very informative - great presentation with a clear video. I'm sure it saved me much time and prevented me from uttering some words not found in the Bible. Thanks, Jim.
Thanks heaps mate , took my deck off 2weeks ago. And was second guessing myself Your video was absolutely perfect and your explanations were so easy to understand U r a bloody legend Cheers
THAT ^^^ ... was one of the best YT video's I've ever watched. Clear concise views and narration with helpful reminders. This science teacher grades it A+. Thanks.
Thank you for explaining to push down on the cable piece, instead of squeezing it, to get it to come out. It made all the difference, and not how some others say to do it.
Thanks Jim. My neighbor just drove up with one for me to service and changes the blades. This will save me time, and frustration - especially with that wire sheath clip!
Thanks for this video! I just got my tractor a few months ago and unfortunately hit a root today that bent one of the blades. I don't have a jack or ramps so I'll need to take off the deck to replace the blade. Your video gave me the confidence to try this repair myself saving me a big hassle and expense.
Thanks so much for making this video. I've got to remove the deck from my YTH (same model) because the blades have to be changed and the bolts are frozen. You laid out all the steps in a very clear way.
Well done video. Explained every step and showed it as well. My only suggestion is to zip tie the spring wire To the frame after the clip upper clip. My upper clip broke and the spring cable got caught in the belt. When I replaced it I made sure it was more secure. In any case great job on this video
You made taking the deck off a breeze. I get easily unmotivated with doing any mechanical repair or disassembly work. I tend to forget where I put parts and have to re reference constantly to get things put back together. This video made it simple as can be for a mechanical dummy like me. Thanks for the help.
Deck removal is a snap BUT, I wish we had a place to hang the hangar rods up at so they didn't just swing around under there banging against everything and possibly come out of alignment with vibration......
I've found that putting a strong rubber band around the belt when you take it off the drive pulley helps to keep the belt from coming loose from the other pulleys. Keep looping the rubber band around the belt so it's nice and tight and then slide it towards the other pulleys to keep the belt in place. I didn't do that the first time and when I stood the deck up on its side for cleaning the belt just fell off all the other pulleys. This tip also makes it easier when putting the deck back under the mower and hooking it to the drive pulley.
Had to remove my deck to re weld a portion of the deck today your video made it so simple to remove and reinstall the deck as needed within 20 minutes with 0 knowledge before hand thank you so much !
This was very helpful. It was clear to see everything that came off and were everything went. It turns out my families lawnmower needs to be saudered back together.
Jim, When I do this task, the part of removing the spring mechanism that engages the blade, I find easy is to unscrew the mounting bracket on the top of the mower deck, then the spring comes off easy too. Thank you for your videos, I am saving all the links in a folder for future reference.
I agree with ALL of the (positive) comments. Echoing @randypower.... great video/perfect video. Great audio, good angles, no dumb music, and you show exactly what it takes. This 'tutorial-like' video was to the point and very helpful; thank you very much.
Perfect! TIp about cardboard is a great idea. Once the housing was down, I used a pencil to trace the ends of the housing on the cardboard then put some strips of tape on the paved laneway to indicate where the initial position of the cardboard was so that when I slid the cardboard back for re-installation after changing my blades the housing was in the exact right spot to hook up all the supports.
An outstanding video with great photography. Just a tip for anyone doing this. I have several different colors of fingernail polish that I use to mark linkages and their corresponding connections for making reassembly easier. Also works for wiring , screws, etc to take guesswork out of reassembly. Just a little dab on each piece , and dries very fast and is permanent. I get the loudest colors and at dollar stores. I get pink, blue , red, yellow, green, white, and anything else that is conspicuous.
After removing the clips and belt you should slide it out to the right side - not the left side. Then the spring will be accessible and so much easier to release the clip. Also the spring with the hook - the hook must have the open end up.
i hit a little stump today and it knocked my belt off . question : do i just drop deck without totally removing it to put the belt back on ? i am a dummy and this stuff is new to me . thanks to anyone that can answer me back .
It was easier than I thought. In fact I had to take apart a 2nd time because the belt was bad and I didn't know it until I got everything back together. 😩
I have a new 3 month old YTH 18542 rider installed by lowes and delivered. Runs great but since day 1 Whenever I engage the blades there is a loud rattling noise from deck and vibrates too. Cuts ok. First thing I tried was I changed the blades (mulching) but no help. So next using your video I may try a brand new belt and look for anything else. Thanks
I had the belt come loose from that front pully when I hit some gravel. I should not have to remove the entire deck...I hope. But this will certainly help if I need to. Dang, I wish my barn floor and my mower were both this clean!! I think I will do a little cleaning work before I start the maintenance!!😊
This video was incredibly helpful! Just next time, you need to do it in the yard, on uneven ground, where there's no flat ground, and make it look a littler harder. lol Thanks!!

Great videos on the Husqvarna lawn mowers. I signed in just so I could like them, and give you credit.
Thank you very much
Dude you're a beast. No pliers on those cotter pins.
Thanks, not in as good of shape as I used to be.
Excellent video. You hit all the important steps with clear shots of the process.
thanks for watching
Thank you so much for these easy to follow videos. Im 56 and have no one to help me so I'm having to learn to do it myself.

Absolutely. I had to zip tie the cable as well because plastic on the mower's tie down was "bound to break" and get in the way.
You made taking the deck off a breeze. I get easily unmotivated with doing any mechanical repair or disassembly work. I tend to forget where I put parts and have to re reference constantly to get things put back together.

After removing the clips and belt you should slide it out to the right side - not the left side. Then the spring will be accessible and so much easier to release the clip. Also the spring with the hook - the hook must have the open end up.
I’ll try that next time thanks
