I have been to see Okkervil twice and both time Will was drinking straight whiskey for the whole set. Don't get me wrong, he's a brilliant songwriter but I think he should lay off the alcohol a little.
Check the video from Madison, WI. They've got a great version of that and Calling and Not Calling My Ex. Personally, I don't see too much wrong with this particular video. Could it be you were just thrown for a loop because the person singing on the record (Jonathan Meiburg) is no longer with the band and they have the bassist sing his parts?
