I feel so dumb. I've been buying huge hides to get strips of leather lace long enough that I need (there aren't many pre-cut options in the width I need). You just saved me SOOOOO much headache and probably a lot of money in the long run. Thank you for posting this! :D
Here's what you do if your leather is too thin or soft. Use an acrylic paste (like Elmer's glue) and paste the suede side of 2 pieces of leather together. Use a roller because pressure and time are what provide a good solid bond. Then your leather will be thicker and stiffer, enough to cut lace. I just made blue leather shoelaces for my blue leather shoes using this method. I used our Sailboat Blue leather for the job. It was fun, quick and really easy to do. Also, a good sharp blade works too. Have you seen our lace making kit and the leather scraps on this page? innovativejournaling.com/shop/accessories/
After I cut my lace I noticed it is crooked in places and I'm wondering how to remove the "memory" of the lace. Should I stretch it, rub back and forth, etc?
Hi there. Great video. I was hoping that you might be able to help me with a round leather cord question. I can't seem to find out how to repair it when it gets scuffed. I like to make beaded leather bracelets using the usual round brown leather cord. It has a smooth, sort of waxy finish but if you over work it, it starts to look more like suede. (And makes my jewelry look used) Do you know how they achieve this smooth finish? So I can try to get the over worked cord/lacing look new again? Thank you! :)
I saw a video were wax or oil was applied to the lace. One end was cut with a sharp angle to feed thru a hole in a piece of wood or leather, then draw it thru a few times.
It's true... difficult to use on really soft leather and thin leather. The only thing I can suggest is that rhe blade is really sharp. Also, did you know that you can adjust the blade?
+Applewictorie yes, that and also the notch where you feed the leather into... The too notch is the biggest, the bottom is the smallest. There are 3 or 4 of them I think.
@Innovative Journaling no I didn't get mine from you . Your in the states. I'm in the UK. By the way. Love your videos. I'm just getting back into leather work. So some very useful pointers of things that I use to do so good for brush up on . All the best buddy. And keep up the great work 👍

So cool. Need to grab one of those for lacing baseball gloves!
Thanks! Simple tool but came with no instructions and no demo on eBay hole I got it from. Your vid was perfect, thanks again.
Oh that’s genius….. I had wondered how the tool worked!
Thank you so much you have teach me how to make leather lace

Is there a way to make it strait afterwards? Becayse its curved, Thank you
Doesn't the Elmer's break down when it gets wet?
Thanks for the mention. Great demonstration. :)
I note there are two places for the blade, allowing six lace sizes!
Thanks a lot.
Hi Arthur, how do you call that tool?
wow nice
Not sure. I have never tried. I imagine if the blade was sharp and the suede was about 2mm thick it might work.
After I cut my lace I noticed it is crooked in places and I'm wondering how to remove the "memory" of the lace. Should I stretch it, rub back and forth, etc?
Wet it and shape how you want
Lacemaker I guess. They are 10 or 12 dollars at Tandy. I'm going to be selling the lacemaking kit again shortly.

I would actually need to see a picture of what you dealing with.

Alana Harley curious , any information you discovered regarding your round cord issue? Thank you!

Hi there :)
I bought one of these tools but i noticed it is not working on soft and thin leather. What else i could use?
It's true... difficult to use on really soft leather and thin leather. The only thing I can suggest is that rhe blade is really sharp.
Also, did you know that you can adjust the blade?
I found only one way to adjust, to move the blade into an other place, so that way the lace will be wider or narrower. Is that what you mean?
+Applewictorie yes, that and also the notch where you feed the leather into... The too notch is the biggest, the bottom is the smallest. There are 3 or 4 of them I think.
Thank you for your help! :)
+Applewictorie you bet! Let me knkw how it goes please.
I bought one of these absolutely rubbish. So made my own in the end
Did you get one from us? I use the one we sell all the time and have made literally thousands of meters of leather lace.

I have that stupid gadget from Tandy and doesn't work as you shown. Try again
