The part I think people often forget is that this is 24 hrs a day too, when you are getting overtaken and shipping that much water by a following sea in pitch darkness you get all my respect.
I just don’t think I want to be that wet that long. True sailors there.
Ship made of wood, crew made of steel !
Yep, either you brake or you bend in weather like that. Balls the size of the sun.
from experience the camera in no way can express the magnitude of real weather like that.
Fantastic .
Gentlemen you have my respect
This is VERY impressive, especially when you know that waves look much smaller in a video....
way way smaller
yep
Looks more like the deck of a submarine! Surfing breaking waves in the open ocean gets my attention any day!! Respect...
one can clearly observe here that the combined mass of this crews testicles of iron add to the ballast to keep this yacht on an even keel and upright. respect. love the wild seas.
Ah, the twink weighs in
Wow!!! I subscribe. I’m land locked, to me this like something from another world!! Thank you, please post more.
Love watching these videos from my recliner.
Respect 👊
The ocean , furious though it may be , remains a fascinating and beautiful world. Vielen danke.
Great work! I'm trying to imagine standing at the helm and a wave breaks over your head from behind....
I don't think anyone on board will forget that adventure.
Absolutely Amazing
Danke Arved!
Tha's what i call sailing! Love it all the way... Thanks, Arved Fuchs!
I admire the courage of these Mariners. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Who needs a jacuzzi. You're sailing in one. WOW! That is some intense sailing for sure. Thank for sharing.
Magnifique!
Wow. That is sailing 👍
Unbelievable !! Balls of steel!!!! Modern day Vikings!!!!
Holding my breath throughout the video. Brave men.
A good, tight boat and a smart seasoned crew can take on just about anything the sea can dish out to them. Great video!!
Dude ,,,,,,,,, full on stuff ! Take my hat off to you and your crew ! You guys have balls that Klang !
This is the kind of journey you tell stories about decades later!
Holy cow this is stunning... and to keep the camera running!! Hats off to you all.
My wife sailed around the southern ocean in 2008 on a 39’ light displacement sloop. It was hideous lol. But she got some great stories.
Geil, diese Bilder - einfach nur Geil!!! Bitte mehr davon!!!
Grüße aus Berlin
Classic, epic and brave.
Big balls for ballast!! 👌
Wow. That is great footage. Had to get my Dramamine out! Thanks for the ride. 💖💖hope all on board are safe and warm at home 🏡
Beautiful real adventure. My deepest respect
Man, you guys are crazy!
Absolutely awesome⛵️
I felt cold and in need of a hot coffee after watching that 😳
Ah, another lovely day in the southern ocean.
OMG!! This video should have 30,000,000 views!!
Sehr schönes Boot!
Woah! Great footage.
That is crazy....that first wave is enough to rip the rudder off of 50% (If not more) of production sailboats.....much respect.
Insane! respect
FORTALEZA A PRUEBA,....
Great video!
GOOD FOOTAGE GREAT ENDURANCE......
Please upload MORE. Awesome
Gaff rig schooner or submarine? Could not tell.
Both
Craig
I was thinking the same thing...
All after me then...
"We all live in a mellow submarine.. "
I think it's a Cutter
Great video. What a fantastic thrill this would be. I'd love to do that.
Respekt!
Looks like fun times to this Sailor.
Must have Viking blood running thru those veins. Much respect!!!!!
Dude ! Now that's living.
what a ship!
I've been in those conditions, but never in such a small craft. Unthinkable.
These guys have some skills :)
those scuppers are way too small...you broadsided that wave at 1:20 because of the free surface ballastwater on deck.Anywho as you posted the video you made it, congrats, awsome sailing!
Awesome.
Those are some balls & real seas! I hope you have a serious bilge on her. Very cool video!
That's what sailing is about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A pleasant day’s sailing 😬😳⚓️
Holy shit. Those are some crazy seas!
I flew over that going to Vostok station, waves looked huge from 12,000ft up

Fantastic as well as fantastically frightening. Given I'd have jumped at the chance to do this when I was younger, I know for sure I am officially old now. It's not so much the fear but the absolute certainty I would not survive this even if the ship does. As the saying goes, 'where there's no will, there's no way José' for me.
I have not the slightest idea how old you are or what you consider being officially old, but I'm sure you'd make it. Why not? Thousands of men and women have survived this and turned out ok, and so would you. When you're physically fit that is. Mental strength comes out of nothing if needed in a trip like that ;-)
Great video.. but I prefer the natural sound of sea water over background music.
D-Gauss : thanks for your input. No one cares what you prefer. You can choose the track when you make your own video.
Thank me for my input when I comment on *your* video. Oh wait, you have none.
you also have my respect....
I would have pissed my pants.
Definitely
Respect boys
Excellent video! Looks like a fantastic voyage, but man can those offshore legs get long.
Sailing
95% sheer boredom interspersed with 5% sheer terror.
Oh man! I have been off the water much too long. This video gave me such goosebumps....
Wow
Crazy to think the Shackelton and crew sailed similar seas in a boat 1/5th the size of this boat. Amazing sailing no matter the ships size. I was ready to hurl 20 seconds in.
The James Caird was 22.6 feet long and was sailed from Elephant Island to S Georgia. From this vid, this ship seems to be 100 odd feet or longer.
Whoa! That's impressive!
Andrew Tubbiolo that was their lifesaver boat, and it only set off from Elephant island as to stay was certain death.
Just came upon this video whoever you guys are true badasses.Ernest would be proud.
Razor Ramone
Wow , if you haven't heard of Shackleton of the story of the Antarctic explorers you simply must treat yourself.
The race for the South Pole was better than the race between the Soviets and the US to the moon.
My words can do no justice to their accounts, but here is a short clip to get you started.

my great grandfather..able bodied seaman Frederick Marshall SAILED them 12 times...both ways..on the Cutty Sark...until he was 54
Literally High Sea Adventure.
Crazy!!
video make me feel like on real, like I'm with you. very exciting
I would be so seasick! Watching the video almost made me seasick.
Pooped by a following sea. I’m sure someone could calculate the tonnage of water on the deck. It must have been utterly terrifying.
I’ve always thought “how about could the horn really be?” Now I understand 🙏
Pretty swirly! Best way to keep the deck clean, amirite?
Hypnotic
👍
looks like a lot of fun :-(
So courageous sailors, they are not afraid of giant waves.
Seems like a sturdy and well founded yacht but why have the dingy on the Davits with big following seas? Kudos to the crew for weathering the passage.
👏👏👏👏...
Is that a wooden submarine? lol brave men!
Swsome!!
Imagine trying to keep the camera that stable in such rough seas. Either they have a tripod, or some really sturdy sea legs.
‘We’re gonna need a bigger boat’
Was it dry below ? ? Doubt it LOL.................
Demasiado pesado.
Surfs up!
Very impressive! A dialog would have been very interesting.
English translation (Google) : "The Roaring Forties is the region of west wind drift between 40 and 50 degrees south latitude. These winds provide unstable weather, rain and high seas. The "Dagmar Aaen" has made acquaintance with these Roaring Forties on their way from Ushuaia to Piriápolis (Uruguay)."
No thanks!! Beautiful photography though. Thank you.
Big boy sailors.
That was scary.
crazy
All that water over the deck, I would be freaking out.
Armchair sailor here - would it be better if you had a little more sail up to make the boat go faster ?
It would assist the steering and reduce pooping and broaching by following waves.
Speed is important in conditions like that.
Im asking for my own benefit not being critical.
I know the wind is already strong but i tjink too much water is coming on deck.
Razor Ramone I've never used one but perhaps a drogue or sea anchor would be nice.
@Razor Ramone thankyou for your advice and recollections. Very helpful.
Yes stay ahead of it
@Razor Ramone not in that situation, otherwise the wave over takes you quicker, and you are towing a hazard
No, in those following seas the biggest danger is broaching and of course shredding sails and damaging rigging, not to mention risk to crew. To a point you need sails up to keep control. This all looked ok to me, you get wet and in that weather you learn that the colour of adrenaline is brown, haha. With a competent crew and a seaworthy ship it's a thrill that you never forget.
Dry below ?????????????????? WOW
