Incredible seamanship. Not only rounding the Horn, but under race conditions.
We did it twice, me (solo) and my two self built boats March 02 1999 and February 04 2019. Amazing Experience!
What design are your boats?
Really, "amaising experience" ?
Did you video any of this?
Like, love, awsome. My old man was in the1st whitbread round the world he was an expert. You are all the beastlike best!
Was fortunate to experience sailing the latest VOR on transat crossing West to East. Very exciting and extreme, but probably the worst boat (comfort-wise) to be on a longer trip. Cannot avoid being on deck, as there's no autopilot and boat's design requires at least 3-4 guys on deck at any time to have proper control of it. Changing or hoisting sails requires even more guys on deck. While on deck, you have no protection from water and wind - it's like an upscale version of a laser dinghy, so you absolutely want the best clothing there is while in North Atlantic. After you return from you shift, all soaked and cold, you find yourself in a non-heated, super-moist cabin, have some tea and food, and get into likewise moist sleeping bag. And then after some sleep the routine restarts.
I can see what your saying from the footage. Absolute bastard of a boat. We used to call the Sydney Hobart the washing machine race. I'll never refer to it by that again after what you said and what I've seen. Yes,just a 70ft Laser. Mentally and physically demanding to the extreme. Well done to you my Friend.
Sounds amazing
It makes one appreciate those who did that in wooden ships, no radio or GPS, East to West instead of with the wind and sea.
Mad respect for these Guys!
Thats gotta be brutal!!
Thank you from Moscow.
Cape Horn National Park, Chile - The most beautiful country in terms of nature. Easter Island and ALMA observatory as well are part of this country. Land of volcanos, glaciers, deserts and geysers.
Forests too!
YEA BOYS! that takes much mental stamina to endure those conditions for the length of time you are sailing. must be fun for 30 min. or so but you guys are tough! great lessons to us all!
What is it they used to say? "Wooden boats sailed by iron men?" I'm not sure what these boats are made of, but these are iron men for sure!
0:38 I think I might enjoy this for a few minutes (provided I didn't get washed overboard), but to do it for weeks at race intensity is nothing short of incredible!
Be made of Carbon Fibre.
Those guys are FANATICS about sailing!! I'll just set home in my soft and warm recliner and watch the vids on my computer screen, if that's OK!
:-)
Exactly how I feel!
God bless you Magnus❤
These have got to be the bravest men i have ever seen.
@Urbeee These days they wear dry suits and immersion suits. So they stay dry and can maintain body temperature if they go over the side. When I did it we had neither. Our waterproofs were excellent but a little water could creep in. If anyone went over the side, they had a very short time when they would stay conscious. 15 minutes tops. The water temp below 50º South averaged about 3ºC.
I did it in bermuda shorts and flip flops.
Great video. Music was not needed
Looks like more fun than the 635 miles between Newport and Bermuda and a bit colder.....
Brilliant footage - sailing a submarine must be real fun for real boys!
These guys really know how to combine superb sailing skills with the high technology available for these type of events. No doubt all these descendants from vikings have the DNA for sailing the high seas.
*scary!* amazing those boats can handle that, the forces must be incredible.
Cabo Horn é Hard core, punk visceral essa Vibe e para poucos...
You've got to love it. 👍🍻🇨🇦
I love the ocean, but screw that. That is terrifying.
30+ knots for hours....that's wild
Imagine being aloft 100 ft up on a schooner the deck in the sails with it pitching.....
Or a "Flying P-Liner" from Hamburg Laeisz reederei. Those handsome ships: Passat, Pamir, Pommern Potosi and Peking.
Greetings from sunny tropical Thailand Johannes K. Lindgren - The septuagenerian KAWASAKI Vulcan 650 rider. Born in Suomi-Finland.
Balls of steel.
Imagine doing this in a wooden ship with no weather information .
Oh, the best! Rounding Cape Horn ...
Its the greatest ride you'll ever ride, that said you jut can't get off !!
Unless you get kicked off my Mother Nature
This is amazing. I wish to do the same.. But first will be Atlantic Ocean as a crew
I bet some treasure ships went down in that area. In all seriousness, it’s sad so many have likely lost their lives in that area.
I'll go below deck for a nap, guy's.
Awesome.
Vendée Globe guys do it singlehandedly
Sorry I'm confused did Erickson headed north before navigating to CapeHorn and Erickson 3or4 crossed first .cape horn. Help me out . Regardless all competitors and sail vessals unbelievably . Loved the on board footage.Thankyou
What a ride, rush packed adventure
I just keep thinking about the poor guy who gets swept overboard, not in a million years would they be able to be rescued.
Good stuff, but the Square Rigged Coal Ships went the hard way round, often with a cargo of coal I guess you'd know what that means!
@abcwzx I've searched high and low and cannot find it. I'm alright jack as I've kept a copy. I'm sure there would be many yachties who would love to buy a copy.
Nescafe Ericsson Satellite 配合
Those Vikings like a challenge
A whole lot of water. I think I saw a boat in all that.
Wow, that's some properly wet sailing!
damn those boats move!
Brutal sailing conditions.
Fantastic !! Fargo N.D.
WTF? This is insanity.
I know these boats are built to be light but this kind of exposure could be avoided with a small engineered pilot cockpit
Are submarines or sailboats?
It would be fun for the first 30 minutes then after that. Well only the toughest would know.
Any one who knows where to buy this documentary..?? I really want to get my hands on it..!
So you rounded Cape Horn eastbound? That's nice. Now try do it westbound in winter...
Supreme Flagship yeah westbound I think is way worse
Mmmm have u done it westbound on a performance sailboat?
Wtf , why would you belittle this achievement...sound a dick tbf ..sorry
"balls-out" racing!
!!!!!!!! Super
I love adventure
Can i have a Plexiglas cabin back here ?
heroism.
Awesome
Oh, my holy shit! No ! I'd better stay in a bed at home....
Did it in speedos on a ringo.
No picture of the Cape? A lot of gear failuers. Flooded decks.
Why do we have music instead of the real sound? Disappointed 👎
When men were men. Times lost forever.
There's people out there that actually want to do this?
FUCK THAT!!! I would rather try to be a Navy Seal.
Craziest people on earth !!!!
I like it there're is a club „horn" in poland I going in this club I m saling in optimist you can more videos in horn?
Been there, done that, got the Tshirt
video ? :-)
sick
Just curious, Tiger Woods makes a few million winning a golf game. Same for other sports. These sailors that actually risk there lives to win get what, a gold monohaul cup with a free year mooring ball at any locations?
Its because of audience. What draws the most audience, draws in the sponsors. Sponsors and audience brings in money. Its capitalism 101. Nobody gets anything because they "deserve" it. There is no divine justice. Only supply and demand.
If Volvo Ocean Race drew in 20 million viewers there'd be a lot better prizes too. These sailors dont do this for the prize, its their passion and their life.
Surely they could have designed a dog house for the crew?
I would expect to lose 3 men per race
Been there twice. Drinking coco and rum sitting on deck...of a cruise ship!
I’d like to do that... for maybe 1 minute
badass
It must be a freezing water... Are you in dry, or are you totaly wet? I would be ill in five minutes and death in few days. What is the trick? ...perfect clothes?
4:54 sailboat disadvantage - smoke , drink alcool
a boat engine manufacturer
sponsor a sailing boat competition.
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Cape horn is female - right (like the wife)?
Would be alot better with out the daft drum beat,,,,,, it makes it own drama.
BBc Nitwits.

sissies sailors watch the last cap-horners
Is that supposed to be fun? What nonsense.
That does not look fun.
No need for the stupid drumming.
