Ken's SAIII is definitely meta-defining. It's generally what makes Ken top tier because it allows him to unlock tools that would otherwise be unavailable with his other supers because of its short meter bar and tons of stocks. And unlike his other supers, SAIII can punish alot of moves that were intended to be safe EVEN ON HIT! And also, the confirmability and the comboability of the super makes it so that you can practically land it every single time unlike his other supers which are hard (or even in some cases, impossible) to combo into.
@@xyzen9673 Dudley main here, the easiest would be Chun-Li. Ken still requires decent execution to unlock some of his more busted stuff. Chun pokes with crazy good buttons until she gets super and then fishes for a hit confirm with a crazy easy hit confirmable cr.MK. The only difficult thing with Chun is kara-throw, which is something most characters need to know anyway.
I will say an important thing to note Ken’s one of the few characters with a great taunt. It ups the next combo damage by 15% and Ken gets an opportunity every super in the corner. It makes his mix up much more threatening when he can keep up the damage next mix up without much else but a stray hit.
Great video as always, but Ken's SAIII is absolutely meta-defining, as it shares all the important properties of Chun's SAII. They're both 3-frame supers (edit: turns out Chun's is actually a frame slower at 4 frames!) with great reach and multiple stocks. The first two points alone allow both to easily reversal punish way more than the devs probably intended, and the third allows both to stay very threatening after a single super connects. Rather than the supers themselves, what separates Ken from Chun is the way they confirm super: Ken has a more varied set of super confirms which are useful in different contexts, while Chun has the easier super confirm in low forward that forces opponents to turtle up once she has bar, allowing her a lot of space to apply offense.
Agreed. Ken’s super does change the meta absolutely. Because it’s so fast it can whiff punish and reversal punish things that you usually can’t(Ken’s cr. forward on block for instance).
All true, it all boils down to damage basically. Chun and Yun's supers are capable of taking up to 50%, whilst Shippu for all its versatility, is one of the less damaging supers in the game. "Meta defining" is a bit of a nebulous term, so we'll make our wording more specific in the compilation vid.
@@ThatBlastedSalami very descriptive, informative, and straightforward. Kudos man!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥Could do a detailed breakdown for Dudley? I’ve been an avid Dudley user for years. Thanks!!
Nah, Chun-li was and still is considered the best. The Daigo parry was a showcase of Daigo's skill as a player (and that Western 3S wasn't as advanced as Japan), not the strength of the character.
What a great video. As a Urien player, I find his tick throws really annoying as well, he's got so many fast recovery moves he can do it from. He can shutdown so many moves from Urien too with cr med. What feels cheap for me is the air EX hurricane, as he can easily escape or kick you up for a combo from miles away, and most importantly with dragon punch priority always stay in control during wake up.
Another great breakdown 👍. Yeah Ken is the best shoto in 3rdS, although i’m not that sure anymore after watching how strong Kuni Ryu against JWong Chun. It feels like there’re some untapped potential with 3rdS characters.
if you get a chance, watch Coop Cup, it has a great team format, where each teammate uses a different character. It's so fun to watch decades-long character specialists fight it out, instead of the lopsided Chun/Yun/Ken meta.
Maximilian Dood's favorite son. The only negative of Shippu Jinrai is the damage and stun. Outside of that, it's easy to combo into, fast as hell, and gives Ken a ton of meter to work with. Also, this may just be me, but I think his Second Impact stage and theme are better.
I always used to say Ken was top 3 in the game, & this vid proves it, there's a reason why I always had a pocket Ken online alongside my mains of Ryu, Urien, & Q! :)

I hope y'all are gonna mention when there's characters with a bit more decision to make in supers All 3 of these first breakdowns use mostly just 1 super. Others aren't horrible but aren't as good as Genei Jin, Hoyoku Sen or Shippu Jinrai Kyaku but someone like Yang has a decision to make between strong afterimage pressure with Seiei Enbu (SA3), or access to more uses of EX Tourouzan if he picked Tenshin Senkyutai (SA2) I hear both SA1&2 are good for Remy Mostly Shinku & Denjin for Ryu etc etc
You can check the document this guide is adapting in the description, for characters with more choice around their super they mention the pros and cons of each
Just a small nitpick. The term "shoto" short for "Shotokan" is pronounced "Sho-to" as in like the "sho" in "show" and "to" as in "tow" Show-tow just remove the Ws and don't put too much emphasis on the T. Shoto.
