- Hey design champions! Today I went through five designs that some design champions were awesome enough to submit, so we could talk about them on, "You Guys Rule!" The first was a personal logo design that we simplified quite a bit. The next was a super cool logo design, that I added weight to the font and redesigned a plant element. The third was a really fun logo that I simplified quite a bit.I hope you enjoy the rest of these logo redesigns. Please let me know if you enjoyed this design review!

@ he did but the F removal was just sad
Also he could have placed the name in a better way
The end result just looked like someone say a cool vector anf slapped his first name infront of it
Exactly what I thought xD
It wasn't perfect but it was an improvement. He only had a few minutes to suggest some things, not define what the end result should be.
@ if the triangle was flipped horizontally it would have been better
when i saw the first one, i thought he was joking
But hey - the second and third version (matched colors+deleted lines, blue+black) are looking great compared to original..
@@mod8 No it doesn't. It looks like it was made in 1970's.
@@ZygimantasA I honestly think that the first version look a bit oldschool. But old design doesnt mean bad design. Some designers created immortal logos, that are still perfect. I like the last version (just surname) most and I will make the blue part even smaller. Bold name+little blue part.
Zygimantas Adomavicius How is that not a compliment?
I thought the first one was perfect before
Unpopular, but in his defense, people who professionally design logos think a little differently. Simplicity is key, versatility is key, clarity is key.
- Simplicity: The more simple the logo, the easier it is to recognize and it will match well with other design elements.
- Versatility: If your logo is a weird ass shape, you really can't put it into the header of website or on social media effectively and remain consistent with your print marketing material.
- Clarity: There really shouldn't be anything that distracts from the main message. What you want to sell should be at the forefront of your design. Fluff is ignored in 2018 as our price of attention rises.
well put
Fuck off Tanner
@NOVAHD I believe logos become memorable due to the fact that they follow these keys.
@NOVAHD But that doesn't mean a logo is well made. The original argument referred to making a visually appealing logo that sticks in your head, rather than an eyebleeding logo that sticks in your head. Although the latter is memorable, it wouldn't be fondly remembered.
@NOVAHD Macdonald's, Nike, addidas, Tesla, Amazon, beats headphones, Coco Chanel, Disney etc. What these brands and many more alike have in common (in this context) is their simplistic logos, they make easily identifiable logos that are quick to recall. Logo's are the most important aspect of a brand and the image they want to set, if the logo isn't appealing or too complicated most times it will be forgotten.
This isn't about what ways right or wrong it's about how you market yourself to get the maximum attention and sales.
I think what people fail to miss is the fact he said "these are directions I MIGHT explore." I think he was merely suggesting a way that the design could be altered, not necessarily saying his design was the best iteration of the logo.
that's his words. and that's fine. But his presentation screams "look at me, I'm so good and you all are not". Very few people enjoy criticism and/or arrogance (even perceived arrogance) You have to take care to come across as sympathetic and genuinely wanting to help. Or just kick up up to 11 and go for the "I'm a douchebag and loving it" style. This guy is leaning too much towards the second option.
@@omikronweapon No, that's not it at all, it's not his fault because you assume what's he's doing at all, if he says what he's doing, take it for word, don't sit there and think he's lying when he's clearly doing what he's saying. smh, if you don't like him radding on your logo, don't send it to him, it's that simple.
Omikron, you do realise that the people who’s logos he’s working on have been submitted by them? They want him to offer his professional insight on their logo, he lets everyone knows certain suggestions and backs up why he’s made said choices.
He’s not saying his is final, or that they even have to. He is simply letting them know, from a professional standpoint, what they’re lacking. Constructive criticism....
@@omikronweapon He asks for commenters perspective literally like 50 times. If you think that tilts towards "I'm a douche and better than you all", then you are delusional. And literally listen to his fucking intro. "Everything I make ain't that great". Are you deaf or something? Neanderthal.
To be honest I think the first one actually looked nicer originally, your version of it was way too simple
This is the second video i see of this guy with the same content and yes, the only he do to the designs is do 1 or 2 changes to put it more "simple".... and worst. I don't know why people send his designs to this man

@Rhynder Prod. what
You must not be a designer in any fashion lol. The first logo was a complete mess.
Kyle Evers I am an architect student and of course I know the principles of design. Regarding the first logo, I think he just went a little too far simplifying it. In my opinion it works if it was a globally known brand (when Kentucky Fried Chicken reduced its logo to KFC, for example). I didn’t say it was wrong, but I think he sacrificed its aesthetics a little in exchange of simplicity. Still works but the original one was very elegant already.

ua-cam.com/video/I1vd-QcofDM/v-deo.html
@@static2140 you branding should carry your personality, not your logo. Having a very simple logo that communicates the feeling of that genre of business or company. When it's very simple, it's easy to use it in a million different applications without feeling like your fighting it, and it's also helpful if you decide to change your branding, many great logos have survived multiple brand shifts while keeping their logos pretty much the same because they worked and we're memorable and recognizable. I forget where I heard this but someone said for every three things you add, take away two. Then theres the classic K.I.S.S. "Keep It Simple Stupid" which applies to everything! Lol. This is a friendly debate btw, just making conversation, no I'll intent 🙅😸

Agree - Fried Town edits were spot on.
But, maybe got a bit lost with the other logos

I love how you redesigned fried town. it became more focused and the connection really paid off.
People mistaking EGO for structured feedback/critique, lol. Trust me, most CDs would chew you out in a real creative agency based on the logos that were submitted.
You people are so mean, it's a cool video. I don't get why people in design are so elitist, to be quite honest.
Ergashev's logo came out nice. it's way more powerful, and it makes you focus on their name, while leaving you lots of space to breathe in. In their case as a web designer, the most important of their personal logo should be their name and the impression. To put it simply, in a business card, that simple design would make me want to turn it around to see Ergashev's contact info. First one would probably not, since it's colors are tame and it seems unclean, full, therefore, amateurish, in a sense that's not what I'd be looking for in a professional.
Because people think their subjective beliefs are the only truth and are objective reality when in reality it's not objective, and it's just subjective territory, he designed the logos how he liked it, he did what he said he was going to do.
"But he implied that my logo was shit and acting like his was better than mine", okay hold on, you sent him your logo and then you cry about it? that's like getting Gordon Ramsey to come to your restaurant then cry when he doesn't say your food is great.
Bottom line is, this is all personal taste, don't cry because he has a different taste, his taste is simple, that is all.
If you don't like him not liking your art, don't send it to him, just to brag about how good your art looks. -__-

He turned them into actually applicable pieces. It's very hard to explain to people outside of design how less is more, not always, but definitely in logos. A bunch of ornaments might make the logo look 'nice' on a white background, but the thing is: a logo needs to work in several surfaces, colors, applications and materials! Ergashev had a lot of ornaments that would get lost if you looked at it from a distance, or if it had to be hot-stamped on personal cards for example. The reduced version, while still not perfect, makes much more sense from a practical viewpoint. People will immediately remember his first name and brand because it's far more simple in a more synthesized version.
At the same time, you're overlooking logos made for the web. As long as a logo is recognizable enough, in the modern day and age there is no reason not have set variations of a logo for different purposes. You may want a more complicated and flashy look for the header of your website, but you'll also want a slimmed down silhouette that is also easy to print, for example.
What's the point of them being applicable if they suck? I'd take the less applicable Ergashev logo over the bad simplified one.
@@sandstar102 Yes, this is true! But the video shows an exercise of optimization. You can build up from a simple, effective, recognizable logo, you can add to it immensely if the base product is sturdy enough. You would be able to recognize Nike's logo amongst a sea of ornaments, because of its strong identity. It doesn't need to have a name attached. You just know what it is. I'm not saying the Ergashev optimization case was the best. It's just an example of how communication works. In fact, nowadays people are even more likely to look at something really fast and easily forget it. You want to quickly imprint the brand on people's minds, or as many people as possible. This is just a fun, personal example, but I wrote this comment 4 days ago. I'm coming back to read the replies now, without rewatching, and I honestly can't remember exactly what the original looked like, but I definitely remember the optimized one at the end of the exercise. Do i think is cute, or does it remind me of anything? Do I immediately know what Ergashev's brand or product is all about just from its shape? The answer is no. It might not be the best, but to me, at least, it was effective. That was the point I was trying to make, really. Design is communication, more than aesthetics, ornament or accessories.
I agree with your point, but no. He completely butchered Ergashev, that logo was already strong, perfectly balanced and had nice use of colour. He simplified it to the point of rendering it utterly generic, lacking any kind of personality. The kind of logo that people just mentally gloss over and don't give any real attention to. All his other work was a significant improvement, but he dropped the ball HARD on Ergashev.

@@TheLazySleeperLives Starbucks has changed their logo 3 times in the past 50ish years, with 2 of the changes basically just removing elements. I wouldn't call that continuous, in my opinion. Same for Samsung and Adidas.
Lol Sbux does not need a redesign.
The logo was original a naked twin-tailed Siren in the 70s. Then in the 90s, she got some liposuction and a face lift, and was showing much less of her hoo-ha.
Then a few years ago, the words were taken out of the logo because the Sbux Siren is already an iconic image. People don't need to be told "this is Starbucks" - they already know.
Late comment, but here's the deal: to those of you commenting saying that this guy is making the logos "too simple", let me break it down for you. In graphic design, you are taught to graphically reduce the main image of the company or idea being represented. This gives the audience an easy way to remember it. These people sent in these designs to him for an honest critic for a somewhat "professional" standpoint, meaning the people who sent them in knew there were potential things to be changed. One thing to remember though, all though he's changing up the logos a bit doesn't mean that the original designer will like it and change it to that completely, they might take some of his recommendations and use that to improve their logo, but they might not take the idea as a whole. I'm not really qualified or anything to say that my opinion is the best or anything, but I really think he did a good job reducing the logos to make them more memorable for the audience and clean for the company. -- I'm taking Graphic Design II in highschool right now, and I think my teacher would show this video in class because of how much she emphasizes graphic reduction. (Sorry if I have spelling mistakes or sound like asshole, but I am one so whatever :)) Edit: Hey saw some of the replies you guys made, I would like to emphasize that I am still a highschool student learning graphic design and I'm just inputting what I learned from those classes. I'm not saying my opinion is above all in anyway -- I just wanted to see if people agreed with what I said (I mean what if I got my standpoint of graphic design wrong and I could make changes to my own designs and how I make logos) -- please read my replies to the comments made under mine, I had to justify some things because a lot of people misunderstood what I was trying to say :) thank you
Graphic design isn't always about simplification. Simplifying a logo doesn't always make it more memorable. There's such a thing as overly-simplifying a logo and thus making it look boring. (For example, Zimri made the first logo incredibly boring by over-simplifying.) Sometimes the more sophisticated logos are more memorable: the main factor behind creating a memorable logo is the concept, not how many edges there are.
@@surprise7002 Yes and like me, idk about others, i will rarely aknowlege plain and simple - as i instantly recognize/associate it with "new account" and "amatuer" etc. (ever heard of youtube click bait?) people click so fast on fancy thumbnails and ignore simple plain ones. lol...usually.
Maybe drop out of college, and take LSD to learn about real art instead?
@@surprise7002 The first logo rework was phenomenal. There was too much happening in it that kept it busy. By reducing it to that flag-like triangle, and his name, I now remember Ergashev much more easily. Before, the logo seemed a bit like a superman logo, and had too many other busy elements going on.
That was the perfect example of simplifying AND creating something memorable. More sophisticated logos aren't very memorable (the only ones that come to mind are Lamborghini and Ferrari), especially for brand recognition.
@Kat H.Ryn yeah but it not only has to be simple but pleasing to the eyes of the audience/target audience, and so to speak, it seems the audience isn't liking the simplified development, it does not mean it is ugly or unsatisfactory just not better than said original according to the many commenters. But even as a designer and to all creative persons we must already be familiar with the - We can't please everyone rule. I understand Design, especially logo design is about simplifying and minimizing the full picture into one bold statement so the target audience may remember it and take it in as a whole, but as a designer you must know that sometimes it is wise to agree with the audience rather than go against - but of course I'm not saying you are but anywho, thank you for your explanation it has been written well.
Edit: This is about the first one - and in general but personally I loved the green juice improvement and the others but the first, wasn't bad - at all, but I just found it displeasing for my level of satisfaction. But he has lots of good points and tips, very interesting. ...he's definitely on something though..... hmmm....yeahhh...yeah.
UA-cam has been suggesting this for months and I’m so happy I finally gave it a watch! You have the cutest personality! Your laugh is infectious❤️
Honestly the ergashev logo was ok with just common blue colour without shades
Yea, for Ergashev, and then Ergashev sent his own logo to Zimri, and then Zimri made it how he likes it, that's it.
It's just personal preference, it's all subjective, there is no objectively right way to go about art. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If Ergashev didn't want people to rad on it, DON'T SEND IT TO A UA-camR WHO DOES THIS AS A PROFESSION AND THEN CRY ABOUT IT.

Man, I love the execution and idea of the series!!! My first episode. Just subscribed and ring the bell !
I agree with the direction you took the first in, but you took it too far in my opinion. I'd have stopped having changed the colour and removed the lines.
The second is a massive improvement, overall loads cleaner. It bugged me that you used the brush tool to add the leaf etc, but I get that this is quick and just to bounce ideas.
The third was awful to begin with, very word-art and just too busy. You simplified it well but lost the personality of the logo in the process.
The fourth was actually my favourite, I think you did a good job on that.
The fifth was ok, the angled pan laid behind the text makes it pop more so I think from an impact viewpoint you improved it :)
Agree, except with the third one, Asterix I think? The original logo was almost good as it was. The letter A looks better now but overall it just looks empty, too much white space.
Oh my god I legit sent in another like literally at 2 am last night because I figured the tarot cards got lost in your inbox 😅 thank you so much for your kind words!
Of course! They are awesome Julianne : )
Hey Julianne, not sure if you are going to see this, but I would love to buy a set of your Tarot Cards if they ever hit the market. I am not much of a tarot guy, but those illustrations are amazing and I would love to get my hands on something like that. Is there any place where you are going to showcase them? :D
@@AleksOfficialChannel Hey! I'm really glad you like them and thanks! I did those for a class a few quarters ago, so I currently only have those two cards. I have been considering finishing the deck, and if I do the first place I'll post about it would be my twitter (I'm @Juli_Aria)
This guys laugh is absolutely brilliant! Love the videos man - subbed
Hey Zimri, I just wanted to add a positive comment to this video, because I love your personality. Keep going, because you're AMAAAAZINGly talented.
Been watching like 3 of your YGR videos every day lately, and truly loving them. THANK YOU SO MUCH
It's hard to be an artist online because everyone can judge and critique, and although that's their right, it doesn't make it easy :)
Is this guy on speed?
First video I watched and I put it on 1.25 speed. A little too extreme for me.
Hahah he's on something :D
K, that Miley C wrecking ball reference followed by that laugh got me hooked to the video before he even started with the content 😂
the fried town enhancements were amazing, definitely blown away by how much better the same design became through small adjustments. also highly appreciated the darkening of the border to make the colors pop. and changing the yellow border of the pan to black and connecting it to the words made the whole design feel more unified. loved it.
You work to improve the logos of the others in a very explicit, confrontative and courageous way.
You actually share a lot of knowledge ... for free !! and actualy may end up by doing the same but for big money.
Thank you ... you are an enrichement for this world.
It's your logo. Do whatever you want with it. But, I love his ideas. He's got a flair for simplifying design. Excellent aesthetic sense! Funny commentary too!
I love your videos so much! And you literally are like a fountain of light brightening up everyone’s day! 💫
Simple is good... To a certain extent
You're a magician, seriously. Your editing style is soooo on point!
ur just weird but not in a bad way

what the fuck

Zimri, I'm not commenting as much as I used to do since you are back, I've been traveling a lot lately!
I still never miss any of your video either I'm in Cali or visiting my parents in France. I'm Following you religiously.
I have to confess one thing though: I'm always snapping, clapping and all that stuff behind my phone whenever you're asking for it. Today my little brother witnessed me jaw clapping while eating a banana. That was a little bit sketchy to explain the situation to him.
"IM CONGRATULING AND SUPPORTING VAN DAMME WITH HIS START UP"
The cringiness in his eyes made me feel great.
ahahah chui mort
Is Zimri the guy from Ratatouille?
You made it all worse
what is jaw clapping
Clearly people complaining about his ego in the comments have never gone through art school. This is about as friendly and positive as critiques get. I actually think he does a good job of criticizing in an encouraging way without being degrading
This dude is such a space cadet, he's literally having such a blast in his own world lmao
I don't know what am I doing watching designing videos but I loved it lol. Your vibe is so bright gosh
Wait, this is bugging me. On the Hourglass Brewing one... isn't the word BREWING off center to the left? How was that missed??
now I can't unsee that
these comments are whack as hell. this is a guy that clearly just loves his passion for graphic design and enjoys making positive, entertaining, and hilarious videos about his OPINIONS on it. his intro song literally says "well everything i make, ain't that great". this is youtube, quit taking everything so seriously.
Actually I really loved this video. As a designer with over 8 years industry experience, I really respect this guys opinion and design efforts on each of these logos. Come on guys, it's just his opinion and even if you don't like it, it's just his perception of thins. We all have our own views. And I've learnt a lot from him.
😂😂😂😂 love your vids bro
ohhh snap it's Will
How many Will Paterson’s would Zimri give Will Paterson?? 🤔
He’d get all of the 👌🏻will is amazing
I give you three Will Patersons for that 👍🏻
if it is illustrator can you tell me what shortcut did you use to do this 4:20
Hey man! if you press "R" you'll get the rotate tool, then you can left click on where you want to rotate the object, after that you can click and drag the shape and it will rotate around where you clicked before : ) Hope that makes sense!
totally makes sense. thanks a lot
You did such an amazing job in almost most of these, great job uwu
Having studied graphic design I actually do agree with all but the first one, I find the first one just throwing the name out to the left made it seem disconnected. Might have been nice to try and align it to the bars but on the right hand side, and that would even give you the chance to use both names if that was important for the user. But everything else was definitely improvements I would have made as well.
I wouldn't mind YGR for a whole week :) also it'd be pretty cool if you added "would go a different route" or "in between" or something, as third option, and people could then comment what they would change instead.
the first logo is definitely the logo of cosplayfabrics.com
hendrvh true
It's also like the Crossfire's Logo. If you play video games you prolly know what I mean

Hey I'm new to your channel but I'm digging the logo designs thing. As a student in multimedia arts I find this really helpful- so thank you man! :)
What tool did you use to draw the plant stem on the "Green Juice" logo? Also, is this Photoshop, or is it another program?
Why is everyone dissing him? He did great.
He's so weird. I love him.
Thanks for being real, you've got a good eye for simplistic design.
The new Fried Town Logo was so cute! 😂
It looks like a cartoon show logo! 😍😍😍
I REALLY like that you've been posting so much lately. Is it because you're working with Futr? If that's what they brought you, I'm psyched, you're one of my favorite people to watch. I'm subscribed to Futr too so if you're working with them, I can't wait to see you on their channel!
If I'm totally wrong, and you're just uber motivated, you're doing REALLY well. I'm so glad. :) You're doing well even if I'm right, too :P
Ahah he explained yesterday that working with Futr was a joke.
@@SlakBeatBox Really!? Can you please tell me the name of the video???
@@queenzville Of course my design brother! It is call "Logo Design for A Film company" I think, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/ulNxbCp47Lw/v-deo.html
@@SlakBeatBox Thank you sooo much friend!! 😊
I kinda like that this guy makes himself laugh so much.
Wish I could do that.
Please kill me.

Can do boss
I would find this so much fun.
In my school (yes im 12 so basically a baby) all the teachers (and students) are awful at making presentations/logos and it frustrates me a lot. rly happy i found ur channel !!
This guy is really good and he just gave a service to those worth a lot more than free.
am I tripping or are his eyes two different colours?
Nobody:
Random Dude: LET'S BUTCHER THESE LOGOS!! YEAH!! HAHAHAHAHAHA. 2.3 MILEY CYRUS!!!
I enjoyed this. I'm learning to design logos and your insights were super helpful :) Thank you for making this video ✨✨✨
Love the series Zimri! Keep it up, great work!
I think the green juice you made was good idea with the leaf, but from too thin, your logo was too thick in my opinion.
wait im so confused why is everybody hating on him?
Lol ur pp

I was too impressed with the Leslie's logo, it's like it is perfect, even when it looked so good at the beginning, but those little changes make them look professional.
i love how people who don't know shit about graphic design spout crap out of their ass. dude improved ergashev's design a lot.
