    thank you so much for this video!! I am starting out in silversmithing and just discovered your channel. You are so inspiring and your channel and creations are beautiful. I have been using LoS and I like how it makes the details stand out, however I think I'm doing something wrong in polishing as I have been using rouge, which gets into the bits with the patina and ruins the colours. So should I apply patina, then use brush to apply wax in areas with patina, then polish without any compound? Sorry for the questions and thank you in advance! Lilie :)

    Great Video, Thanks, I have used platinol for a few years now and really like the immediacy of the process. I usually finish with a small mop on a flexi-shaft with a little beeswax which gives an interesting finish- Im going to try the Renaissance wax, Ive just ordered it from Cooksons gold. They also sell the Platinol but as you said do not post out of GB. which is a shame as I live in Austria! But it does last well and I still have plenty left. Keep making the informative Videos please!

    Hi, I use the same one but I have problems with the egg smell staying on the jewellery I've made and the black seems to wash off quite easy??
    maybe I'm doing something wrong ? how do you get rid of the smell ?
    Thank you for your video though.

    Thank you very much for your tips. I use a similar product, Midas Black Max from the USA and I have a few questions. How do you prepare the surface before applying the patina? How do you clean it? Do you neutralize the Platinol that's on the piece in a water / baking soda solution? Do you usually use sterling silver as a background that you patina or fine silver? Thank you :)

    Is it important to protect oursleves from any organic vapours when doing patina or silversmithing? I noticed your maks is a P-100, correct? It protects from dust particles? Can you patina without a mask? Thank you so much. I'm from Montreal, Canada. I don't protect these areas usually, I just apply very carefully, and when I polish, I remove the patina from spaces that I don' want to be darkened. And yes, I apply the wax on the dried patina :) Hope that helps!

    How long can you 'store' the patina in the brush? Does it degrade if you leave it in there for too long?

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  4 роки тому

      I usually have mine for about 2-3 weeks and I haven't noticed any changes in the product or its performance. I put small quantities into the brush, that's why it's usually used after about 2 weeks :) Although it doesn't necessarily answer your question, I hope it helps!

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  4 роки тому +1

      it depends on how much product I've used and if I placed the piece near the source of heat (like a heater) to dry, or if it dries naturally. Sometimes, if I don't need a large amout, I will rinse it with water after while and dry with papwr towel, so it's faster this way too. But most of the time, I leave the pieces for few hours to dry completely.
