Great video Catherine. Those moments of thus trip is what you should treasure. The Grand Canyon is deep. I went to the North rim 2 times. I know I would never be able to hike that. Thank you for the great views and seeing the river up close. Glad you found water that was drinkable. And only glad you only had 1 day of rain. Glad you you didn’t hurt yourself too bad with your leg. Looking forward to seeing next video. See you soon! Stay safe. Travel safe.
Still so cool that y’all made a connection. I’ve loved both of your channels independently before so seeing you guys together is even better. Can’t wait to see more adventures with both of you!
Ive been watching Joey for quite awhile. You bring a touch of class to the videos Catherine. I like the soft music in your video. Congrats on completing a really tough hike. You kicked butt girl! Hoping all goes well for this latest back packing joint venture.
Basha Johnny thank you so much. Probably a good thing I didn’t know exactly what I was in for on this trip. I may have psyched myself out. I appreciate the kind feedback and thank you for watching my video, as well.
Awesome Video Catherine !! Your very inspiring to all us "Normal Backpackers" !! Your Relentlessness on those boulder scrambles was just wow ! Your soo down to earth and honest with your experience !!
That hike is awesome, I did that same hike in 12 hours back to the top BUT I wish I had camped out for a night or 2 under the skies. I went down the Boucher Trail from Dripping Springs intersection and the views are STELLAR. Once again great job on the narrating and video editing. That hike is tough on the hip flexors, calves, lower back and knees. Coming up Beucher is harder than going down, for sure. Great job on the video and yeah it is a workout for sure.
Wonderfully captured! The essence of this magnificent scenery was seamlessly joined together, as two souls share their journey with a lifetime of memories.
So many spectacular vistas! Every few feet you walk, you get a different perspective and vibe. I am also amazed at the diverse vegetation - cactus & various scrub plants. I always thought it was more barren than this. Since I know I will probably never get the opportunity to experience these hiking trails, watching your videos is the next best thing - many thanks and Happy Trails!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. I just returned from my second trip to the Grand Canyon. This time it was 4 nights and 5 days on a different route. I hope to have that video up by the end of this weekend.
Thank you so much. It definitely takes huge effort getting down there. Glad we could bring it to those who will never have a chance to experience it themselves.
I hope that you do! Breaking up the decent and ascent into two days is what I'd suggest just to make it a less exhausting experience if at all possible. Obviously, our permit situation didn't allow for that on this trip.
Wow, constant awesome views, one after another! I’m going to have to move this up my list of hikes to do much sooner! Your video and editing skills also add to the experience. Great job!
Awww! You guys are so cute. Make the perfect couple😊 Cat, you are a beast! The way you handled those rocks with the pack on your back🙌🏽🙌🏽 Chile, my knees would have said hell no!😂 Those views!! I hope to one day see all those beautiful places
Excellent video Catherine! That was a tough hike and you pushed through it with a positive attitude. After this accomplishment you must be getting really excited about the upcoming multi-day trips. Got an email from Joey last Friday just before he left to do a trip in Gila Wilderness. Again I really enjoyed this video!
Thank you so much Bryan! Joey's footage sure helped. I'm so grateful for his generosity in letting me use it. This was definitely a tough one to strike a balance between filming and the very difficult hike. I'm looking forward to our upcoming trips. :) Hope you are great!
You are a hiking beast Catherine! What a tough trail ... I'm sure it was worth it! Your shots that 2nd day with the sun were awesome. Great video ... great climb ... great stuff! 😎
Catherine, well done! The Canyon IS tough. I don’t need to tell you that. Backpacked the Tanner trail a few years ago. Toughest hike I have ever done, as well. Turned our cameras off on the way up, too. We left the river at 6 AM and climbed out at the rim at midnight. Thanks for taking us along with you. Another lovely video.
I just returned from a trip through Lower Death Hollow in Utah and it seemed like a piece of cake compared to the Grand Canyon. That was one for the books. Thank you Christopher.
Catherine Gregory I have not yet done much hiking in that part of Utah, although I spend a week or two in Capitol Reef every June. Will we see a video of your trip? I can always hope.
Christopher McKellar yes, you will. Mine should be up by the end of this weekend. Joey’s will be several more weeks out. He has two others going up before our trip.
Got around to seeing this. Looks both brutal and awesome. A true march through time as you descended past 10s of thousands (millions) of years of rock layers. Joey looks like a perfect hiking partner. Hard to wrap your head around the views on video. Must have been breath taking being there - in more ways than one.
My first overnight in the Grand Canyon was the descent into Hermit Creek in October, 1972. About a mile from the river i started hearing what sounded like distant sonic booms, very faint, but hard to ignore. I asked the leader of our group (from the Northern Arizona University campus) what I was hearing. He told me the river must be in flood stage and that large boulders were being carried and rolled on the bottom of the riverbed. When we arrived the river was indeed in flood stage and we could feel the shock waves of the boulders rolling down the river in our feet as the rocks were big enough to shake the ground as they collided with other rocks on the riverbed. A couple of years later we descended the Boucher Trail and went down to Boucher Rapids on our way to Hermit Canyon. It is a rough route, but from what I hear the Old Hance Trail is harder. If my memory serves me correctly Hance Canyon is one major canyon east of Grandview Mesa. The Old Hance was built by Mr. Hance himself and it was nearly impossible to maintain, so it was replaced by the "New Hance" trail and neither has been maintained in decades, or so it was in the 1970's when I was living in Flagstaff. My last hike in the Grand Canyon was in 1990 and we went down the South Kaibab and up the Bright Angel. By then I had lived and worked in three additional states on my all expenses paid tour of the western U.S. courtesy a career with the U.S. Forest Service.
+wannabe to wasabe thank you for sharing. I did hear some of those boulders being pushed by the current. I can only imagine what it would sound like during flood conditions. The Boucher Trail was a tough one for me. Anything more difficult would have made for an agonizing experience. lol I do like challenging myself, however.
Thank you! Received my permit to do a different trail in the Grand Canyon next spring. I imagine it will be just as challenging. Stay tuned for that. :)
I shoot with a Sony RX100 III, but this video is a collaborative effort between myself and Joey Coconato of the @MyOwnFrontier channel here on UA-cam. His clips were shot on a Sony A6300 in 4K. However, I only output this at 1080. Even so, the 4K footage looks amazing.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures Thanks for sharing. I like in VA. and the AT trail is minutes from my home town. I plan on doing some hiking this year and I plan on videoing my trips. Your videos are amazing. Keep up the good work and I look forward to watching you this year. Go on UA-cam and check out trail days in Damascus, VA. God bless.
Wow! You are a rock star! Great videography on top of some bad ass hiking/climbing with Joey! I just did a trip through Southeastern Utah and the colors and grandeur of our wild places took my breath away. So appreciative for your videos and giving us a chance to take in the awe and beauty and wonder of our wild lands.
Thanks for sharing your adventure Catherine! Nice to see & listen to your perspective of the hike after watching Joey's video. I'm looking forward to the future joint adventures with Joey!! :)
Thanks so much Kevin. I really appreciate you taking another 30 mins to view my video, as well. Joey definitely has a lot more experience filming on challenging trips and it was truly amazing to watch him in action. I hope that I will do it with more ease the more conditioned I become on the trail.
I watched Joey’s video before knowing about yours and wondered who you might be! Now I have watched both, I’m really impressed with how different they are in spite of being the same trip! I love your camera work and actually think you had the better camera on this trip, but given the location, both videos are awesome. So here’s to lots more trips together! As a side note, I used to make seakayaking videos here on UA-cam years ago and wish I could redo those trips as the quality today blows away anything that was possible ten years ago!
Thank you for watching my video as well. I think we each brought our own styles to our individual videos. I actually interspersed footage that was shot by Joey throughout my video. The large majority of walk-by shots are his. He shot in 4K which is a much higher resolution. I shot 1080. You may be thinking his scenes were shot on my camera. Sorry about the confusion. Anyways...thanks again and we have several more trips planned in the coming months. :)
I feel your pain. Nothing worse than hot, tired, feet hurt and you have to rock scramble up a couple of thousand feet. Good video - brought back memories (not necessarily good ones). But it feels good at the end and makes you feel like you have accomplished something. The views were worth the effort.
Thank you Colm. He never knows what I'm going to ask him ahead of time on camera, so his answers are always what naturally comes off the top of his head. haha
Another great video Catherine, beautiful country! I've watched Joey's videos before most recently the Pinhoti trail video. I like him. I'm subbed. cheers!
Hi Jaxx!! Thank you so much! It is soooo beautiful there. The camera doesn't even do it justice. Thank you for subbing to Joey's channel. I like him, too. :)
...blisters on the pinky’s earn double kudos to Catherine. I turned to sticks for hiking when my knees started to talk back. Just a thought...shortening the sticks coming up hill allows for arms and hands to not have to reach as far for support they give pushing up. Coming down hill just the opposite, lengthen sticks, to reach further for balance and support. Recognize that may not be everyone’s preference, but with knees that speak to me, it helps.
Thank you!!! Thanks for the tips with regards to the trekking poles. First time ever using them on that type of terrain. I'll try that next time. I was glad I had them this trip. Joey is so agile he has no need for them. It's an amazing thing to actually watch him tackle the terrain with such ease...and a heavy pack! One thing to see it in the videos, but it's really something to see it in person. :)
Catherine Gregory joey makes so much look easy without complaint, but I recognize many of the situations he shares aren’t as easy as it may appear...but then he’s outside, walking to another destination most of the year. He is in his element and I’m just glad he shares; you share. Stay safe...so much more to see.
Did you guys go in March? We are leaving this week for a 4 day trip down Grand Canyon. Kind of worried about the weather not sure if it's warm or cold.
Almost hiked the thorofare with joey last year, but our schedules didn't match. Good guy and very inspirational. Awesome video and cool perspective! Looking forward to watching more of your vids!
That's too bad you couldn't put the trip together with Joey. He's currently on his 6th backpacking trip of the year. I'm envious, but I'll be meeting up with him in less than 2 weeks for a trip in Utah. Thank you for watching the video. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing landscape. Sort of feels quite spiritual, almost as though you could sense the history and people who passed through in times gone by. Subbed to Joey’s channel and I’ll catch up on his vids. Nice to see you smiling and happy.:-) Atb Mike.🙏
Spirit Nomad I definitely felt a spiritual vibe here Mike! That’s a great description of what it feels like. Thank you for subbing to Joey’s channel. You won’t be disappointed. His work is amazing. Hope all is great!
Loved your video Catherine. I turn 70 next week and have hiked into the Canyon once a year for the last 3 years. It would be so much easier if I could take a llama along to lug my pack. They say only 5% of the visitors get below the rim.
I hope I'm still at it at 70! Yes, a llama would be great. haha As much of a challenge as it was, I have such a sense of accomplishment having done it and I will no doubt do it again...and again. I believe only 5% of visitors get below the rim. Lucky for us, but I can't imagine experiencing it any other way. We get the FULL experience while they only get a tiny glimpse. Thank you so much for watching!
Been following the both of you for quit some time from the flatlands below sea level most people call The Netherlands. I must say respect in how you handled that last tough day and kept smiling! Great to see you guys have found each other and I wish you all the good fortune, happiness the planet can offer. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much. You have to keep your mental state in check otherwise anxiety can easily take over. I am pretty good about putting mind over matter. Smiling helped me make it through. Thank you for the kind words and well wishes.
Incredible video, Catherine! Wow, I wish I had done the hike down when I visited the Grand Canyon in '82. My buddies and I just did the tourist thing on the South Rim and drove to Payson to hike the Mogollon Rim for two days then Sedona for two days. Arizona is so awesome. We were all stationed at Luke AFB in Phoenix. I miss skiing in the Snow Bowl the most. The sunsets in AZ are the most beautiful in the world. Anyway, you are one helluva trooper! Great job! I've watched several of Joey's videos and they are some of the best on You Tube.
Thank you Alexander. If you ever make it back there, it's worth going to the bottom. Splitting the decent into 2 days is ideal I think for most people. I lived in Phoenix for 7 months in 2006 (through a summer) and witnessed some very beautiful sunsets as well as several monsoons and a dust storm. It was pretty cool. Glad you've had a chance to check out Joey's videos. I knew he put a lot of work and effort into them, but now I've seen it first hand and have even more respect for what he does.
Anyone know what happened to Joey Coconato's MY Own Frontier channel? I wanted to go back and see some of his content, but it is gone. He was a favorite. I loved his independent attitude.
WOW one of thee best hikes I've ever seen! If only those cliffs could talk I'm sure they would have a thousand stories! I've heard that every foot of sedimentary rock in that canyon is equivalent to many thousands of years of time. What kind of shoes is Joey wearing? One things for certain Catherine, He's one lucky dude!
Thank you! It was a tough one, for sure. I always think about the history of these places and what they have seen. Joey is wearing Vibram 5 Finger shoes.
What a great start to your season for 2018! Kudos to both of you. It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end - Ernest Hemingway
I really enjoyed your perspective on this hike after watching Joey's. I've been watching Joey's videos for years and I had to check out who his new lovely partner was. ... You two are a perfect match! ... I just recently subbed to your channel and am really looking forward to your future hikes with Joey! ... Darla in Minnesota
Love the video. Was just there in March. I did the rim to rim route. Three days two nights. Blew out my knee on the way down. Luckily hiking up was easier. Please give me as breakdown in what you carry in your pack. Also Joey is a monster in the wild.
Hi John! Ouch! Sorry to hear about your knee. I had all the typical stuff you would imagine in my pack, however...Joey carried our tent and all our dinners, so my pack was a bit lighter then when I go without him. :) He is indeed a monster. I'm blown away at the ease in which he traversed this terrain. Thank you for watching!
Catherine Gregory I think the video pans did an excellent job of capturing a realistic perspective of the scale of the landscapes. Good job and great job on the physical aspect of scaling the Canyon! 💪
Thank you so much. This was my toughest trip to film. The hike itself was so demanding and challenging, I'm very lucky I got what I did. I barely filmed that 3rd day, so I am very grateful Joey let me insert his footage into the blanks. I had to laugh after seeing what I had gotten into, that I even considered not bringing my trekking poles and carrying a tripod instead. It truly kicked my butt. lol
Catherine Gregory not shooting the last day/ending of a trip happens to me almost every time so I hear you! I'm always trying to find a balance with doing big miles vs shooting stuff but making the miles always wins! I liked your ending.. kinda reminds me of most of my videos haha. One of my big regrets is not shooting the sketchy scramble through icy snow fields up to Sawtooth in Mineral King. But I had to focus on safety so the camera got put away. Btw, that's a trip you may want to consider 😉
WAS ALWAYS WANTING TO ASK WHEN YOU ARE IN DIFFERENT AREAS DOES THE WATER TASTE DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF THE GROUND THAT SPRING IS GOING THROUGH? AWESOME VIEWS , PICS , COLORS & SHAPES! THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME TAG ALONG. BREATHTAKING BEAUTY! BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! GOD BLESS YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY!
Hi David. The water always tastes the same however I normally use a Sawyer mini to filter my water. Because I used Joey's steriPEN on this trip and we collected water from pools created in the rocks from the rain...that water definitely had a different smell and taste. Not the most pleasant actually. The water we collected from the running creeks was just fine. It's just the standing water that tasted funky.
I agree - Joey's channel is #1 for backpacking, but yours is great too. It is nice to see your complementary perspective of the same trip. Given the amount of vertical, carrying extra camera gear would have been a drag. But, inclusion of a few still photographs will be great addition on subsequent trips. (e.g. 7:28, 12:17, 12:36, 17:16, 19:11, 20:56, 21:15, 22:05, 30:06, 30:13) Also, the tarantula posing in Joey's video was just begging to be photographed up close and personal. P.S. If you elect to use poles on steep ascents, such as 28:59 , there are at least two reasons why adjusting them to a shorter length will improve their utility. First, repeatedly lifting your hands well above shoulder height is tiring and less stable. Second, long poles force you to cant the poles at an angle into the hill, which consequently means that pushing on the poles is also pushing you BACK.
Thank you Gregory. I will definitely consider adding stills into my next video. I did capture some amazing ones. I debated doing that in this video, but decided against it although I kind of regret it now. Thanks so much for the tips with regards to the trekking poles. At times the were a pain during the climb, but I needed the leverage also at times. I am by no means an expert on the use of them, so any help in terms of tips is appreciated.
For comparative purposes, here's a link to REI for ice axes. While the axe head assists on steeper ice and self arrest, its length is selected for walking up slopes and is typically just 60 to 70 centimeters (25 - 28 inches). This may be too short for your poles. But it at least provides an objective reference. www.rei.com/search.html?q=ice+axe&origin=web&ir=q%3Aice+axe&page=1
Great video, thanks for sharing. I'm planing on doing the rim to rim this Oct. I don't make it out west often, so very excited. What was your pack weight? I'm building a kit for this trip, trying to get my weight down because I know at times I will need to carry a bit of water. One thing I'm not use to having to do in the north east with so much water where I backpack. Thanks
My pack was a bit lighter then it would be normally. Joey carried the majority of our food and the tent, water filter and a few other miscellaneous items. I'm guessing it was in the 22-25lb. range. I didn't weigh it. I did carry extra water up to our camp on night 2, so that added probably 6 extra pounds. October should be a great time to be there. You will love it! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful site! Planning a three day trip in March. I’ve been a few times but never the Hermit Trail. Did you need to reserve the site or apply for a permit to camp there? I’d love to stay there too!
Yes, john is right. You're a very interesting person. I dig listening to you rave about the beautiful views surrounding you. Back packing was never so sexy. Just saying
Wow, just wow!! Such beautiful vistas and an epic trail. I am with you on the tripod thing, I generally love to use one. I feel like handheld is so shakey (especially as I get older lol). Also congratulations on your love connection. I will say I know a lot of the male backpacking community is now jealous of Joey lol but that is awesome that you met on here and not on a cheesy dating site lol
That Hiking Guy it was epic. I think some of the female backpacking community are jealous of me. lol. Neither one of us has ever used dating sites and in fact weren’t even looking for relationships. It happened naturally and organically over time. :)
First of all, love watching all your videos. I am a big fan of you and Joey. I was curious, was a backcountry permit needed for this trip? Looking to do the same trip some time in March 2020.
Thank you. Yes...you need a permit. You must contact the GC backcountry office. They do everything through fax. I know...it’s crazy. You must fill out the form registering for the permit then fax it back. Call the backcountry office and they will help you through the process. Good luck!
On one of my hikes, I didn't think the trail would get steep. The hills didn't look very high, and it was near the coast. So I thought it would be an easy hike and I didn't get any workout done for the hike. But I was wrong, my heavy pack plus going up and down very steep hills had me cramping and fatigued every day in the middle of each hike. It was a 3 day hike.
Talk about paying your dues to be able to front your own backpacking channel - I hiked up 4K out of Toulumne Canyon in Yosemite one year so I know what a big day that must have been for you.
Now that you've championed this ass kicking route, and I do mean CHAMPIONED (nothing like the feeling is there?) I wanted to recommend a good read about the human history of the canyon, if you haven't read it already. "Over the edge, Death in the Grand Canyon ". It's well researched and supplies remedies to dreadful situations- what to look out for. It's also very captivating, even more so now that you've had a personal stake claimed there. In your memories part of you stays in the Canyon. Safe journeys to you!
Hi!!! Great video-thank you -Catherine what camera were you using? My husband and I are planning a backpacking trip and I want a lightweight camera with great range.
Thank you! I use a Sony RX100 III. It has a fixed zoom lens that goes from 24mm-70mm. Some of the scenes I inserted were shot on Joey's camera. I think he has a bit more range. He used a Sony a6300. Mine is smaller, more compact and lightweight. His allows for interchangeable lenses. Anyways, you can check them both out. Sony makes a great product.
GREATNESS! Subbed his channel a while back because he has a lot Yellowstone stuff, but watched a few of your vids along the way without subbing. Then y’all get together with an epic Grand Canyon hike?!?!? Subbing your channel. Forgive me for being late to the party.
New subscriber, came over from joeys channel...great video and great channel...hope to see more of you two in each others videos. Any plans to join joey in Yellowstone or any other areas he hikes in alot????
Thank you for the kind words and for subbing!! I appreciate it. You will definitely see more videos together in the future. Next month we are doing a trip in Escalante, UT and in May we have a Yellowstone trip scheduled. This summer we will be doing a long 8-9 day trip in Glacier. Those are the definite plans as of todays date. :) Thanks again.
Don't take its the wrong way as I am happy for you. Nothing like meeting a hiking pal. I looked up your photography website and, love your work. I need to find a a way to make money with my photography. I'm a Nikon guy but I forgive you for using Cannon haha.
lol. Yes...I'm a Canon girl. Thank you for checking out my work. I am getting ready to completely rebuild my website. I hope to make a few bucks, as well.
Thank you Steve. My legs were so fatigued they literally felt like they may stop moving even though my brain was telling them to keep on trudging. lol It was an odd phenomena. Brutal is a good word to describe it.
LOL Going downhill never bothered me, I literally ran down from Donahue pass to Rush Creek with no problem. Of course the most outrageous thunderstorm that I ever saw chased me down the mountain. LOL Ever seen chain lightning?
Thanks! Descending uses a different set of muscles than climbing. It's good to get all your muscle groups in shape. It's such a good feeling and it's one reason we backpack. Keep trucking!
I have a Katadyn Pump Filter (youtube reference; "the Katadyn Hiker filter and Bleach - Collecting and disinfecting water"). Check it out Catherine for your hiking and/or your camping rig. I just had to have this filter as a survivalist item. I also have life straws, a homemade Berkey filter gravity system, and sawyer filters too. You can die faster without drinking water on your hike then food. Yeah, treating your filtered water with drops of bleach is a real safeguard too. I loved my time in Sedona too. A thumbs up Cat!
Thank you Don. I use a Sony RX100 III and Joey shoots with a Sony A6300. Joey's camera shoots in 4K, mine does not. Both of them have built in mics. Neither of us uses an external mic. Thank you for watching.
The views are really nice Catherine. This is one of your longest videos, but very very nice. I like Joey, but he needs to trim his beard. I do, because if I don't, children think I'm Santa Claus. LOL I don't know exactly why, but I'm glad Joey uses a map. In the 70s had no other option, Those steep climbs are worse than anything I encountered on the JMT except in heavy snow.
jimmie montgomery thank you! I like Joey’s beard. It’s soft. Joey is definitely more old school outdoorsman. He doesn’t use a GPS, so maps are his go to. Besides...battery driven devices can fail you, but a trusty map won’t.
I'm glad you found somebody like Joey Catherine, it isn't easy to find someone. My son listened to his dad and bought a map and sure enough his phone/gps went out. They were able to go forward instead of turning around. Old school on some things is a good idea. That sterilizing pen Joey has must use UV light? I had a UV light in my reef aquarium's filter is why l ask.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures appreciate the response so quickly! A group of us are head to the grand canyon in two weeks and your video answered a lot of questions we had. thank you again!
Dane Seeley you’ve got it! Have a great time. I actually have a new video from my trip to the Grand Canyon last month if you want to check that out. This time we took the Tanner Trail to Grandview Point via The Escalante Route. It was 4 nights 5 Days. What trip are you doing?
My dear friend, No stories tonight just facts. Nice to see that you didn't go on a hike like this alone, that would have been foolish. As for spending a nite in a straight walled canyon In heavy rains, not good. FLASH FLOODS AND NO.WHERE TO RUN!!! YOU always have hanging straps, not good, they can and will catch on anything and everything when you need your freedom the most. Next in this type of climbing with a full pack, you never climb or desend in sneakers by any other name. You need 8 to 12 inch high boots to hold your legs, calfs, and ankles all together as one and strong. You will need them measured and fit. Your blisters were from being wet and excessive space to move and wear in. You do not want blisters they can knock you down for a couple of days, or until the heal enough to move again and MUST BE IN CLEAN DRY SOCKS. You will never see any army moving in sneakers with a full packs or no packs at all. I am surprised you and your partner made this hike in the loose rocks without boots??? Remember a small injury today only.gets worse as the years add up.As for water bottle, you may wanna look at a Berky sports bottle. About 40 bucks new with a filter in it and about 20 bucks to replace the filter. Not to much to ask for clean healthy drinking water. Last but not least out here in the Arizona territories, yes they are a magical place, keeping in mind out here everything is Horny, thorny, and of coarse my favorite POISINIOUS. YOUR climbing in snake country is sloppy at best, sorry. Now the fun part. I believe the first video of yours I saw was a classy young lady drink a rather LARGE , cup of coffee in the morning with NAIL POLISH in the back country. What a women LOL 😆😉 Till the next time, be safe out there Catherine. Dutch,
Great video Catherine.
StarleeJ awe...thank you Starlee!
Absolutely stunning views. Great job....Hey Joey
One of, if not the best, hiking video I’ve ever seen. Very inspiring. I’m filling out my permit application tonight.
Very awesome 👍 beautiful scenery... hello from New Mexico
How awesome ! I love you guys. You make the cutest couple!! Everything I hope to find in my guy one day!! Love hiking !! Beautiful scenery guys !!
+Michelle Enos thank you! I feel blessed that our paths crossed. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I really enjoyed watching you do other below the rim overnight backpacking hikes instead of rushing through it.
Thank you Ian. It was tough, but definitely boosted my confidence in terms of what I'm capable of.
I like that Gilbert. Thank you so much.
Catherine Gregory you're welcome :)
Wonderful shots, nature is quite awe inspiring. Good on you to take this on and show us these incredible sights. Thanks to you and Joey.
Thank you Marc. Glad you enjoyed it!
So many spectacular vistas! Every few feet you walk, you get a different perspective and vibe.
I am also amazed at the diverse vegetation - cactus & various scrub plants. I always thought it was more
barren than this. Since I know I will probably never get the opportunity to experience these hiking trails, watching
your videos is the next best thing - many thanks and Happy Trails!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. I just returned from my second trip to the Grand Canyon. This time it was 4 nights and 5 days on a different route. I hope to have that video up by the end of this weekend.
You two did an amazing job photographing down in the Canyon, stunning views that many will never see up close. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much. It definitely takes huge effort getting down there. Glad we could bring it to those who will never have a chance to experience it themselves.
Catherine Gregory I never say never , someday I'll go
I hope that you do!
Great job!
Thank you!! I honestly can't wait to go back. I loved it!
Awww! You guys are so cute. Make the perfect couple😊 Cat, you are a beast! The way you handled those rocks with the pack on your back🙌🏽🙌🏽 Chile, my knees would have said hell no!😂 Those views!! I hope to one day see all those beautiful places
Thank you ❤️
Catherine Gregory You’re welcome!😊❤️
Wow some absolutely incredible views.
You would love it!
mrdonelsonglhs thank you so much! It was definitely brutal, but worth every ounce of pain.
Congratulations on completing a tough hike and thanks for sharing the video! I definitely look forward to viewing future adventures...
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Lots more adventures to come so please stay tuned in. :)
Catherine Gregory Looking forward.
Got around to seeing this. Looks both brutal and awesome. A true march through time as you descended past 10s of thousands (millions) of years of rock layers. Joey looks like a perfect hiking partner. Hard to wrap your head around the views on video. Must have been breath taking being there - in more ways than one.
One of two of the most challenging trips I’ve done and they were both in the Grand Canyon. :)
Looks like you two had a great time. Dinner sounded good too.
We had a blast. You and Monica inspire me with the awesome food you whip up on trail. :)
I liked watching the complimentary videos shot by you and Joey. Nice landscapes in yours. Great teamwork!
Thank you! A little bird tells me Joey’s version of our Glacier National Park trip together last year should be up on his channel soon. :)
Wow, Catherine, that looked amazing! You kicked butt! Looked like a really special trip.
Caroline Nunez thank you Caroline!
Wow, beautiful but challenging! I would love to try it sometime! Thanks for sharing. Safe travels.
Thank you! Received my permit to do a different trail in the Grand Canyon next spring. I imagine it will be just as challenging. Stay tuned for that. :)
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures Catherine, do you mind sharing what camera you use in your videos? Thanks.
God bless.
WOW!! And Thank You!!...Stay Safe and God Bless....
Thank you LoriLee! I am so ready to get back out there. Utah is next in a few weeks.
Joey is one of the luckiest guys in the world, not only does he get to go hiking, he gets to go with the amazingly gorgeous Catherine 😍
Awe...thank you. That's sweet of you to say.
A lovely video! It's nice to see Joey from a different angle :)
Thank you Colm. He never knows what I'm going to ask him ahead of time on camera, so his answers are always what naturally comes off the top of his head. haha
did hermit and tonto years ago youre right about the stars they where the frosting on the cake for that day great job on the video thanx
Thank you Domenico. I appreciate you watching.
Awesome! Love sleeping next to a stream... although the Colorado River sounded like Niagra Falls! 😂 Great hike and stunning scenary as always!
Hahaaa! No kidding! Probably shouldn't have filmed that scene what that noise raging in the background. lol Thank you!!
What a brutal climb out! Tough, say what!!??
Viewed the canyon from south rim, was awed. You are correct in that it is beautiful.
Awe is definitely the right word. Thanks for watching Charles.
...blisters on the pinky’s earn double kudos to Catherine.
Stay safe...so much more to see.
thank you for amazing Atmosphere.
Did you guys go in March? We are leaving this week for a 4 day trip down Grand Canyon. Kind of worried about the weather not sure if it's warm or cold.
Hi Jason. Yes, this was in March.
Nice to see you smiling and happy.:-)
Atb Mike.🙏
Spirit Nomad I definitely felt a spiritual vibe here Mike! That’s a great description of what it feels like. Thank you for subbing to Joey’s channel. You won’t be disappointed. His work is amazing. Hope all is great!
Spirit Nomad you won’t be disappointed with Joey’s videos. He’s really good!
What happened to Joey’s channel?! Hope y’all the best whatever happened. 🙏🤙🔥
Looks like a sweet but exhausting trip nice looking couple too!
Thank you Bud. Not sure I've ever been more exhausted, but it was worth every ounce of effort.
Nice hike Catherine. Awesome shots.
Thank you Lyle. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate your support.
I loved his independent attitude.
best video about GrandCanyon.
Wow! Thank you so much!
You guys are amazing.
Thank you Lynne.
Joey is wearing Vibram 5 Finger shoes.
love those AZ sunsets great filming! Awesome views
Thank you so much. I'm stoked we got a sunset. Especially, since it rained all night the first night.
Excellent journey!
Barbara Matheney thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great start to your season for 2018! Kudos to both of you.
It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end - Ernest Hemingway
Great quote and the journey was most epic on this trip. Truly and adventure. It was worth every ounce of pain. Thank you so much!
Awe...thank you Darla! I appreciate you subbing, as well. We have several more trips planned over the coming months so stay tuned. :)
You got some great shots! The depth of the canyon looks insane. I would love to do this. Thanks for taking us along 👍 Nicely done.
Thank you Jon! I should have inserted some stills. Ah well...next time. Thanks for coming along. :)
Did you make a video for that one? I need to go back and watch some of your older videos.
So proud of you 😍 You’re an inspiration 🧗🏼♀️⛰⛺️
Cyn Severson love you always and forever Cyn!
You two are so cute!! Perfect match! 😊
Awe...thank you Linda.
Consistent rain in the canyon is amazing…..
Hey there, what ever happened to Joey and his My Own Frontier channel?
@3:30......the best snakeskin I've seen. And as you may have learned: going up is all lungs and quads; coming down is all knees/hips and poles.
I can see how that would help. Thank you.
fantastic
You guys are a good match. I which I could find someone like you.
Thank you so much. I think so, too. :)
Catherine Gregory that is the best way for sure
I love it!
Thank you Gilbert!
Good luck!
www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/backcountry-permit.htm
Hi Catherine, does Joey C have his own channel? My Own Frontier is closed down? Please advise. 😮
Watching this from Zion and heading to the Grand Canyon in two days. My knees ache just watching! Wow!
I'm envious! I can't wait to go back. I'll be doing a trip in Escalante next month.
Are you backpacking there?
Catherine Gregory I wish! Came with my 8 and 6 year old so just doing some short hikes
Awe...that's awesome! Have a wonderful time.
whats the good month to backpack this trail? thanks , nice video
Thank you! March is the best month in my opinion. Before it gets too hot.
THANK YOU FOR GETTING BACK TO ME! DO YOU USE THE CARBON FILTER FOR THE TASTE BESIDES THE MINI FOR EVERYTHING ELSE ?
awesome video !!!! what type of camera are you using and tri -pod if you are using one?
Always check the difficulty of the trail first. I learned the hard way too.
Tell me about your experience.
Thank you for sharing. Glad you made it out of that one safely.
Talk about paying your dues to be able to front your own backpacking channel - I hiked up 4K out of Toulumne Canyon in Yosemite one year so I know what a big day that must have been for you.
yup, that is a wow from me too
Now that you've championed this ass kicking route, and I do mean CHAMPIONED (nothing like the feeling is there?) I wanted to recommend a good read about the human history of the canyon, if you haven't read it already. "Over the edge, Death in the Grand Canyon ". It's well researched and supplies remedies to dreadful situations- what to look out for. It's also very captivating, even more so now that you've had a personal stake claimed there. In your memories part of you stays in the Canyon. Safe journeys to you!
Thank you so much and thanks for the book suggestion.
Love it!!
Margaret Cox thank you!
GREATNESS! Subbed his channel a while back because he has a lot Yellowstone stuff, but watched a few of your vids along the way without subbing. Then y’all get together with an epic Grand Canyon hike?!?!? Subbing your channel. Forgive me for being late to the party.
No apology necessary! Thanks so much for subbing. I appreciate it. We have more trips together coming up so stay tuned. :)
So is You Tube the new way to meet people? Hope you are enjoying the hike.
It is a way to meet people, although I wasn't using it to meet a special someone. That just happened. I've met a lot of new friends through UA-cam.
4200 ft. decent, that's brutal. I'd rather hike an incline than decent. Always applying the brakes is hard on the body. Well done.
I have not experienced chain lightning. I try to hole up somewhere during thunder storms though.
"Well, I mean I have underwear on...it's just not my clean pair😂"
lol 😂 😂😂
Grow up - both of you! (not) Seriously, you guys are living my dreams, and you deserve it.
Thanks for the Tips Bill. I have a Katadyn Be Free and a Sawyer. I also have a Life Straw, though I’ve never used it.
That was amazing to watch. Can I ask what type of camera and mic set up do you and Joey use.
LOL
I don't know exactly why, but I'm glad Joey uses a map.
What month was this video? Fantastic job lady! New fan for sure
Thank you so much. It was this month. March 10, 11 and 12, 2018. :)
Catherine Gregory wow, such good weather even though it was windy.
AOK Foraging and Adventures it snowed just a few days after we left. :)
Hey Joey, think about what you are doing to this poor girl. 4000 feet vertical in the heat is no walk in the park.
Hiking with Vanna
25:05 because you enjoyed the moment :)
Thumbs up you two............AT hats do look like Cat logos..........
Thank you Casper. I didn't realize the similarities on the logo until recently. I appreciate you watching.
what time of year was this?
Hi Dane. We hiked in on March 10th.
Dutch,
