  • Join myself, and my friends Joey Coconato & Jason Andrews on a 4 night/5 day backpack through Escalante Utah's Canyon Country in October 2023. We traverse through water, bushwhack through brush, hike through slot canyons and walk high ledges not for the faint at heart. It's an awesome adventure with so much diversity.

Yes I don't blame you, those ledges with loose rocks can be very dangerous. When I'm in situations like that, I can't use my hiking poles, I like to "hug" the ground with my hands and stay low, even with a backpack on.

Hi Catherine I just came back from a 5 day car camping trip of 1868 miles round trip pm October 16th and passed through Escalante stopping a hundred times on byway 12 at pullouts to see the views and take pictures. I left Red Lodge MT where I live entered East Entrance Yellowstone down to Jenny lake Teton national Park for my first stop continuing onto Utah to explore 3 National Parks there. In Utah I went to Bryce, Byway 12, Capital Reef, and Arches National Park. I got up at 5:30 am in Arches to hike the 3 mile steep incline in the dark with a flashlight to watch the 🌄 at Delicate Arch. That was amazing. But that scenic drive of 123 miles byway 12 through Escalante is so beautiful. I didn't think after leaving Bryce going that route to Capital Reef I was ever going to get there because I kept stopping LOL 😆.

The canyons were incredible, and the music that you put with it, particularly in the narrow Canyon area was really so professionally done. Really majestic kind of music at all the appropriate times. I also love the camping set ups, the food prep. Even the simple stuff like coffee brings us into it all with you. Thanks also for taking the time for extended shots of the landscape, not moving too quickly from each shot. Also enjoyed having the guys there from time to time. So well done, Catherine!Thank you!

A great hike. I was worried on those drop-offs about you. But you did just fine. Those poles seemed to be in the way on one section. Ha! I love it when Joey is with you on these hikes, especially love to listen to Joey talk. Not something I can do now at age 78 but wish I had done it in my younger years when I was hiking all the time. Knee problems now with all the hiking and some falls I have done when younger. But glad I can see through your videos how magnificent this area is. So great to be out there and just taking in all that surrounds you.

We are day hikers so I wouldn't be doing this long hike so watching your video was so enjoyable. We've probably been to Southern Utah in October at least 10 times. It's a great time to go; the trees are gorgeous! You were great facing your "fear" of heights; I'm glad Joey and Jason were there!

I also did allot of ridge climbing and i made it a point to keep a Kbar strapped on and easy to get to. The main thing is to immediately stop the tumbling should you go over the ledge, the knife will allow you to anchor and stop the slide. Save my life twice.

Hi Cat it was so great to see your trip to those canyons. Greetings from Italy :-) For years we travel to Utah and just love Escalante. This summer we tried to hike down to Chop Rock and Neon - but had to cancel our hike due to the weather. We hiked about 4 miles into Harris Wash...and yes, it is a lot of bushwhacking :-) We found some mountain lion footprints.....You and Joey are such an inspiration for us! Looking forward seeing more of your adventures Big hugs from Italy - Paolo & Iris

Another wonderful video, much appreciated! I've gone to Neon Canyon and Golden Cathedral a number of times before, and also camped at the same beautiful spot as your last night there, but hadn't ever thought about looping it from Harris Wash. I also wasn't aware of the high traverse from Choprock Canyon, so thank you for that - it's now on my list for the future! Glad that the weather was so nice for your trip. It is a very special place.
