    I'm 64 yrs old. Been playing pro for over 35 years. Listened to alot guitarist in my time. Learned alot from Terry Cath (Chicago), Hendrix, Frampton, Prince. Never got into to the big names that really aren't anything special ... the Claptons, & Pages of the world. I love Valen, Via, even Guthrie. But in my honest musical opinion, I honestly believe Matteo Mancuso is several level ahead of EVERYONE! Plays so clean and his approach is amazing! The incredible think is he plays jazz better than most if not all jazz players, the same for fusiion, rock, classical, country, blues.. I though Tommy Emanuel was the closest to the mist complete player, but Matteo is even better. And he's only 24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      I completely concur, @Chuck DeAngelo , been playing for going on 50 years, professionally in my twens, admired and studied most of the big names of my "formative years" and now at 58 with even more open ears and heart than what I was able to appreciate back then.
      Mattheo raises the bar to unprecedented levels for the guitar and musical talent in general. And a similar, less guitar-centric thing could be said about Jacob Collier. And then not to forget Ms. Lari Basilio, who also has this "compound" style of picking and occasionally using a pick.
      But Mattheo really is in his own category that we didn't even know existed prior to him showing up on the scene....

    • @wesboundmusic
      @wesboundmusic Рік тому +6

      Absolutely amazing and also phantastic instruments presented! Mattheo created a whole new ""category" of talent and unimpeded musicality (as in: transcending any kind of preexisting music-academic dogma or "teaching" and really drawing on all of so far known music history and styles...). Absolutely second to none other before!

    His right hand technique is the best I've ever seen. By dropping the pick, and developing the four fingers for "true" hybrid picking, it frees the thumb up for muting unused strings. Derek Trucks uses his thumb the exact same way! SUPER efficient!

    • @davidamooreii1805

      If you drop the pick, then it isn't hybrid picking. By definition, "hybrid picking" is a combination of pick & fingers together.

    Click bait headline aside, a prodigious talent but it would be nice to see him in the context of music that appeals to non guitar players as well. It's why Schon continues to be so criminally underrated when talk of the greats occur. Who among us cannot hum his solos? I love technical guitar playing and listen to Holdsworth, Howe, Garsed, Frank, Lane, Guthrie, etc almost daily but that's not the kind of music I want to listen to when I'm in the mood for remembering the good times. Nonetheless, Matteo fits comfortably in his genre and the young fella can certainly handle his business. His future is incredibly bright and it will be interesting following his guitar playing choices. 👍

    I feel like he'd be slightly better if his shirt sleeves weren't getting in his way.
    But, seriously - very talented. That right hand is nuts.

    MM is absolutely the world's most technically gifted electric guitar player right now imo. Saying 'world's greatest' leaves waay too much room for debate. But many would agree MM has rewritten the rules for top elec guitar chops - ironically - using well-established techniques from non-electric guitar (flamenco guitar and electric bass, specifically).

    Regarding the “best” guitarists, it’s odd nobody mentions Stanley Jordan. Just listen to him play Stairway to Heaven on two guitars. Even Chet was in awe of Stanley Jordan.

      No he's not a flamenco guitarist but perhaps he practiced classical guitar,his finger playing is pleasant to hear and very articulated

      Let me know when he creates something that is on Powers of Ten level. Besides I don't think he would be able to play some of Lane's stuff. Nobody could except maybe GG or MAB.

      @@sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517 don't be a joke, please. Obviously GG and Lane are from a completely different league but this is also a different level of performance. So, keep your mouth shut and ears open 😊

    watch the way he uses his right hand thumb to mute strings. that should be the big takeaway if one is looking for technical inspiration. muting is the secret sauce to playing.
