Gary Neville had the humility to know he wasn't good enough anymore and packed it in around this time. Today is totally different where we are stuck having to field and pay huge fortunes to players like Casemiro. If we can all see his legs are gone then why can't he? This is the difference between Gary Neville and Casemiro. Back when Gary Neville was playing he faced almost no criticism whatsoever from the fans and there's a reason for that. Imagine Trent Alexander Arnold then add 15lb or 20lb more strength and far better defensive capabilities and you have Gary Neville. What I mean is, Neville played in a time where players HAD TO defend. These days the back line is pressing so high up (like with Liverpool and all credit to them for playing that way) the defenders, at least on the 2 wings, don't really need to defend much, so people like Trent at Liverpool have it a lot easier, he doesn't get exposed or have to be strong, like Neville did week in, week out, along with attacking too. Neville is in another league entirely to people like Trent. In todays game he would easily be a £60M+ defender. He was solid and all the playing down he does about himself just shows what sort of ego he has, a humble one.
