I’m a drummer who plays guitar when no one else is watching and this channel has been a great way in knowing how some of my favourite bands get their distinctive tones.
The two flavors of fuzz housed in the JHS Bun Runner are the "Astro Mess Fuzz" [designed by the Switchfoot guitarist] and a modified germanium "Tonebender" circuit
This is one of my favorite Rig Rundown episodes. And I don't even really like War on Drugs as much as most people do. It helps that Chris is my favorite Rig Rundown interviewer.
This guy has decided to try and get pretty much every guitar pedal. How does he sleep at night? Why does he torture himself? He has spent so much time thinking about this and applying it. Wow he’s a champ!
Seen this band live in Fredericton NB, they were amazing! I had never listened to them much before, but live it was an incredible sound. I really loved their set! Also, this guy has fantastic taste in pedals. The goatkeeper is amazing. I have a malekko goatkeeper, and its such qa fantastic trem pedal. Best one's I've used, though I wish it was stereo. Also, the reverse reverb on the hardwire is beautiful sounding, one of my favourites.
I dig all the gear. In my mind that's what a rock show is _supposed_ to be. A bunch of tube amps, racks full of outboard gear, big pedalboards, Rhodes, B3's, synths, electric pianos, specialized drum kits and a trio of background singers.
Chris is a great interviewer, although I also really enjoy listening to John Bohlinger do these rig rundowns. Love War on Drugs and Adam's sound, which reminds me of that pushed back in the mix feel reminiscent of the E Street band. Great one!
So glad they did an update since his rig changes so much! Really cool to finally hear about the reissue Jazzmaster since it’s really Adam’s main Jazzmaster live and the one that’s been used on most performances of under the pressure since late 2014. Great to see Dave’s rig too 🤘
This all goes to Europe :) Love this guy. Looks totally out of control, but some of the best sound and lights I'v ever seen on any concert. Also he manages to use all that stuff without ever sounding over the top effect wise. Awesome!!!
Is that a 160 on the Swart? If so, it's remarkable they put a ribbon on stage! This reminds me how little credit cab mics get in rundowns; it would be really nice if you could spare a few words on this topic with bands who mic their cabs live (it matters a lot more than e.g. picks IMHO).
Robert Fripp rundown: "Modern guitarists suck. They wish they had a rig as dense and complicated as Fripp's" War on Drugs rundown: "Modern guitarists suck. Rigs back in my day weren't so dense and complicated."
Premier Guitar, would yall entertain the idea of adding keyboard sections to Rig Rundowns? I know it's not in the magazine's title, but all these awesome key rigs are sitting there teasing us like in this one & the Circles Around The Sun for example. or maybe some of these keyboard publications need to step their game up and get some in-depth keys rundowns for us who love both
Pedals are fun but God damn!! In a live setting I can only deal with a few pedals. I'd hate to be stuck in front of that space lauch command center all night.it would be like working.lol
I certainly wouldn't want to be this guy's guitar tech... Holy moly!! Do those pedal boards pack up in some sort of modular fashion? Or are 8 out of 10 connections, hand patched, unpatched, cables wound up, unwound up, every show??
I've seen a lot of bands w complicated rigs just pack entire boards up into road cases, so yeah kind of a modular fashion. They might unplug the leads going in and out of each board but the patche cables inbetween likely stay in place the whole tour.
The first guy (Adam) is the epitome of overcomplicating your rig. Holy shit. I am not a fan of axe fx/kemper rigs, but God damn.... this is the most overly complicated rig I've ever seen, for a band that isn't really switching up their sound. And by overly complicated, I just mean way too many amps, and pedals for sounds that aren't really that different.
Yeah I'm not in the business of telling successful musicians how their rigs could be improved, but it's impossible not to feel like this could be substantially streamlined. Not big on the 'guy in the back turning off and on 6 pedals for a 14 second solo you want to mimic from the record'. Just seems silly to me. He seemed like he could barley get through explaining what he used everything for.
I respect their no compromise mentality to the live show by taking all this to Europe too. I’m sure if they went to Fractal’s they could probably all save a nice new car’s worth of money.
Jesus Christ this entire setup is overkill beyond overkill...the pedalboard is just...I'm speechless. Edit: it's particularly hilarious after having watched some of their live work. He plays supremely basic guitar parts and could do away with 75% of all that and achieve the same sounds. People are so funny.
@@xdoctorblindx One of the most famous guitar players from my part of the world didn't let his tech adjust his fender necks because he believed that they could never be put back into place. Sometimes the big guys don't know best
I love big pedalboards, absolutely adore them, but I gotta agree here. I guess some of these guys just have their way of doing things, but from my point of view, this entire setup could fit on a 60x45 board with an upper deck
@@xdoctorblindx Just because he tours doesn't mean he knows anything. How many famous touring singers have a semicircle of 100 pedals at their feet? Plus watch their live shows...he barely touches them, and he doesn't need to touch them. It's just indulgent.

This is the best example of a Rig Rundown that a I absolutely love to watch, but an actual rig that I would never want to deal with.
yeah seems like ALOT to wrap your head around.
if the drugs they're fighting are guitar pedals, They've definitely lost.
Lol some trippy stuff going on but my dude you can’t use a couple or three Axe FX to take the place of a couple dozen pedals? Lol
Hahaha I mean I have a similar issue that I’ve just kicked but that’s a shit tonne of pedals
hahaaaa
Classic😂
I love that Jazzmaster he plays. Beautiful!
I’m a drummer who plays guitar when no one else is watching and this channel has been a great way in knowing how some of my favourite bands get their distinctive tones.
Ah, so you're another Charlie Benante from Anthrax? Yeah, he can play guitar pretty good too, in addition to his beastly drumming skills.
He has all that and THEN shows us a kemper hiding behind the rig. The cherry on top
Holy. The first War On Drugs one is one of my most rewatched Rig Rundowns ever…
The war FAILED you know!
We had access to too much money, too much equipment and little by little we went insane.
My dream

I’d like to see a rig rundown with this guy and Nigel Tufnel together. Epic! 😁

Yup, v1 is a classic. Can't wait to see this one
There are some great little awkward silences in this 😅

welp, just found what I'm going to be rewatching for the next 3 weeks.
I love their music, they are great live but I could listen to Adam talk all day long ❤
Love these videos so much, so relaxing to watch
100%
Adam is THE tone master
He’s a little light on the pedals. Needs more.
loooove this bass rig. what an excellent rundown
I love this show. Thank you so much!

Adam is our man
The first guitar pedalboard for a centipede :0)
I’m glad to see Adam simplified things by ditching the Leslie speaker. His roadies have so much less to cart around now. Whew!

The problem is he doesn't touch half those pedals, and many of the pedals are completely extraneous.
