Probably a dumb question but how do you think of riffs like that? Especially at 0:17 I feel like whenever I sit down with my guitar I want to write stuff like that but end up going for the same cliches on the top string lol. I want to write more riffs like Invent Animate/Currents but get stuck with only being able to write simple stuff like Fit For A King or A Day To Remember 😂😂😂

i think its all about reference, at least what works for me. maybe like learning specific parts or riff of the song that you like until it felt natural to play. then try to write something based on that riff with different notes and tuning.
for example, the rhythmic pattern of this song's intro riff is based of False Meridian by Invent Animate.
