I am totally impressed with people who make their own tools. I've been a carpenter for forty years and I'm still learning from people like this. Thanks
I'm going back through a heap of your older videos and notice how much your presentation has improved. Fantastic work, I might even have a crack at this project.
Great video, the handplane looks really precise, awesome, also the audio instructions/comments are very helpfull, a huge improvement over the older videos! great work, keep this videos coming!
I have seen many methods when it comes to making planes and I can confidently say without any doubt that your method is the best so far but my only worry is the material you used which is plywood, is it strong enough for making plane?
Very interesting video, but if you doesn`t have such cool workplace and tools... The cost of this hand plane with this awesome (serious!!)) plywood machines equals to those i can buy in my local store(( But, author have a golden hands)
He insisto... muy buena idea.
Aun asi enhorabuena.
Nice build. Any particular reason you went with plywood over traditional beech wood or other hard woods? How well does the end grain plywood hold square after repeated use?
+Sighthound Studio Birch plywood is very hard and works perfectly. Over time you may need to flatten, but this also happens with other materials such as steel even. I used plywood because it is easier to find and work
We recently lumbered a 36" maple, a 36" white ash, and a 32" pecan. After drying, we tried planing with a Rigid (Home Depot) 13" planer with 2 HSS knives ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxIzvvTi3_Qc8JnVdYYRJCvuoDC4QjTzeL . This job was clearly too much for that machine. The pecan was particularly difficult, due to heavy mineral deposits, and a sharp pair of HSS knives would be consumed by a mere 3 boards. We were also having lots of problems from chip bruising, due to poor dust collection. The shavings came off like straw and jammed in the 4" hose.We bought the DW735 simply to be able to run carbide blades, which worked brilliantly for the pecan. However, we found it to be a much, MUCH nicer machine. It was far more rigid than the "Rigid" planer, and far more accurate as well. But what I liked most about it was the dust feed. This machine has its own blower, which shreds the "straw" like shavings as they come off the cutting head and helps boost the shavings into the dust collection system. No more clogs! It's also nicely sealed so that the internals stay quite clean. This is just a well tempered machine that's a delight to use. It literally cut the labor in half. Just another example of getting what you pay for.
Great Camera Work, Great Editing, Great Lighting & Camera Angles, Great Techniques BUT That Rhythmic Noise You Think is Music Makes it Un-Watchable. I Had to Mute the Whole Thing. Just My Opinion.
I'm very interested in make this hand planer. But the plans cost to much in my currency, almost a cost of a factory's planer... Can u send me just the PDF? Pls

yes, it's strong enough. You can also glue a piece of harder wood to the base of the plane
very good and informative , thank you
thanks!
COMO SIEMPRE ,,BRAVO !!!!!!
Did you see the diagonal grid in BigPrint from Matthias Wandel? It helps to align parts of a multi page plan.
Yes, but I use sketch up and layout for that: paoson.com/downloads/en/blog/sketch-up-layout-n38
excellent thank u
Brilliant bravo

paoson.com/downloads/faq
Beautiful, VERY GOOD. FROM BRAZIL ( NADA IGUAL ATÉ AGORA)
good jop
+ابراهيم المشيطي thanks!
This would be a good way of recycling a blade from a damaged wooden plane.
That table saw looks really dangerous without a safety fence, BTW.
you're right, thank you!
I don't know if u know this but you never put your hand plane on its face because it dulls the blade and rounds the edge of the blade
What computer program do you use for your designs
take a look:
