Thanks for the Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you thought about - Rassiff Amazing Woodwork Blaster (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a good one off guide for getting the best woodworking plans without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cooworker at very last got astronomical results with it.
I'm really not understand how on earth someone can dislike a video like this. I just don't get how someone gets to a page like this and cannot appreciate at the very least the time and effort that went into this.
Love the video Dustin.
+Michal Skye Thanks very much!
I love how you used Illustrator to make your template. Brilliant!
Came here, expecting to see a tool being made. Instead, I found a piece of art!
Very well done, Dustin!
Lovely plane- and informative video. Thanks for sharing!
Haha, love seeing others make the same type of mistakes that happen to all us woodworkers. It appears you glued the sides on before cutting the profile in the first part of the video. Turned out really nice though!
I'm the first to admit I make "those" mistakes. This one was planned though. I wanted the base to be made from a solid piece so I had to glue the sides on, then the bottom and cut the sides off that were attached to the bottom. That sounds confusing to me having typed it out. Thanks! It works great. I want to build another.
Thank you, I enjoyed watching and learning from your video
nice use of illustrator. excellent CAD tool. nice video
Love it. You know what would be a great stocking stuffer for your wife to get you? Some more Irwin quick-grips. You just don't seem to have enough of them on hand!
Funny you should mention that. I received game gift certificate specifically for more clamps this year! Thank!
PRECIOSO TRABAJO, GRACIAS POR SUBIRLO
That`s what i call woodworking art EXELENT
Super! The best plane I ever seen! I made one too!
Very nice piece !
Beautiful plane. I really like how you did the area around the blade. I don't think I have seen that before.
Beautiful !!!
GmbH
that's absolutely insane. bravo
Turned out great.
That's certainly a nice handplane that you've made. Now, can you show how to make one without any electrically powered tools and a computer CAD program?
+Bob Blarney no
Wow man! You deserve unlimited compliments! Thank you so much for your effort of this video. God bless you man!
Like it. But would like it better if some audio explained.thanks
The instructions for the kit were very clear. Thanks
Beautiful job!
Fine piece of handmade tool, well done !!!
+shanarah76 Thanks!
Great idea I will make a few of them , Thanks Jack
Nicely done! 👍
Mr DP, its very clean and perfect work....please keep it up and post more videos....
At 8:20 or so...video slows down, I expect to hear normal music...turns out it was "chipmunked" music lol
Good job with the plane!
Thanks mate. I didn't realise that hardware existed. Been looking for something like that. Good work buddy.
what a great looking wood plane, truly magnificentdavid canetti Derbyshire UK
Cool job on the plane love the two tone look
Cheers
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
Thanks!
That is gorgeous!
That is beautiful craftsmanship. Videos like this make me wish I could do that kind of work.
Thank you!
I know its not the purpose of the video, but I do a ton of sign making and you make 2 really basic errors in the first 10 seconds of this vid where you cut your logo into that piece of plywood and sand it.
First; seal the grain with unwaxed shellac. Then paint either with acrylic or latex paint. Then wait til everything is fully cured, and then sand it smooth. That way you wont get bleed through or black paint seeping into the grain. and it will sand off much cleaner.
Bryan Hunter and the second?
Dustin Penner well the second step would be paint, but I’ve even gone so far as to spray lacquer or whatever my final finish is, over the paint *before* sanding, which prevents any sawdust from getting stuck in the semi-rough surface of the paint.
Then I sand or run it through the planer at that point.
Love your videos man!
this is awesomem pretty proper stuff ... I really like the veritas blade and I really looking forward to the build you make with alec's damascus blade ... thumbs up and keep going!
Thanks!
Wow, beautiful build
Хороший дизайн!
Nice design!
wow. Incredible work!!
Fine work buddy, keep the videos coming.

That is a beauty. Nice job.
It would be rude for me not to subscribe, some serious talent going on here :) Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration friend!
Happy to have you! thanks for the support!
We saw no shavings made, it don't count.
Clickbait for my other videos. I use it all the time.
+Dustin Penner clickbait? Disliked and moved on.
+joblessalex I'll be sure to block you so you aren't tempted to crawl back. Thanks.
+Dustin Penner thanks
+joblessalex Kinda like what MOST people do on your horrible channel. DISLIKE AND MOVE ON.
Great build. Do you like the plane blade?
I really do. Light honing and its razor sharp. Thanks!
Great Work !
Very nice!
Nice job!
Thanks!
Any wood
You got my subscription at Illustrator, very good job by the way :D
That's slick I'd call it a shoe plane ,cause of the low profile
The kit was called a smoothing plane and it certainly does that! Thanks!
That's beautiful.
Thanks very much!
Hi Jack! I 'm Lourenço, I'M from Brasil. Yours Videos Are fantastic! I love wood! I' M have studed marchetaria. Your tips thats amazin! hugs
perfect handcrafting but music reminds me when I fastforward in the sims :D
+Lazeran I'm much more careful with the music playing in my shop these days. My other videos dont have the chipmunk music in them.
Liked and subscribed. Fantastic work!
Thanks a lot!
Super!
Really nice work
Thanks!
absolutely amazing. just awesome. I hope to be able to do this someday.
Thank you! Just go for it!
What a beautiful planer 😍 hopefully someday i have my own hand planer like that 😢 what a great job sir two hands up for you 👐 God bless you 😊😊😊
Ok, great at speeding up the camera! Perhaps consider doing a series of the same video at normal pace and with commentary!
Jose Velez no. You make videos your way and I’ll do it my way.
Is that a bevel down kit from lee valley? Would one be worried about just a single block of wood made into a block plane? I prefer that style better. Cheers!
Great video, you have great skills, subscribed
Thanks for this video, is great works !
super sweet!
very great dustin
U do beautiful work
Espetacular parabéns pelo seu trabalho.....
Whose plane blade and hardware are you using ? Nice job!!!
All the details are in the description.
Beautiful hand work there Dustin. What size blade are you using there Dustin on your band saw? Thanks for GREAT video. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you! It is a cheap 3/8's blade that I had to do a lot of tuning on. It is working alright now.
very very very good job
Great video! Is it hard maple and walnut?
Beautiful work. I am using your video to create a similar plane for myself. Now, I have a question. I noticed that at about minute 1 you are gluing the sides and the sole to the core. Then at 1:37 you have only the core and the sole and you proceed to mark and cut it. Was the first glue up an error? lol Sorry to bring it out, but if you didn't edit it out I'd guess you didn't care us finding out.
Nope, not an error. I needed to have the sides attached to the sole and since they were 4 separate boards, I had to glue everything together before cutting it apart.
+Ernest Wong Hi, well there are many types of planes for many different types of jobs, but in general they are used for controlled stock removal and redimensioning to (like in this case) smoothing to shaping. With a smoothing plane you can leave a wood surface smooth and ready for finishing without the need for sanding.
I made it by myself thanks to Sto Doys Plans.
I don't know what happened..... not into wood working but I watched all of your videos! great job makes me want to rip off my shirt and build something.
+Gary Anderson Thanks! I really appreciate it. More videos are on the way for 2016

Do i detect a glue up error
I'm making my own planes soon, but that plane kit costs $55+. I don't even want to spend $55 on a whole plane. heh Know of any cheaper alternatives? If not, it's going to be mallet adjustment.
I am satisfied!
Where did you get the hardware to make this plane?
what kind of oil or wax did you use to finish the piece.
he used mineral oil and bees wac
Hi Dustin...just watched your video. Your plane has a nice shape. I might do something similar. The Lee Valley/Veritas instructions for this plane kit indicate that it is supposed to be a bevel down design yet you appear to have mounted your blade in a bevel up orientation. Was this intentional? If so, you have a rather steep cutting angle of about 70 degrees. How is this working for you? Have you tried the bevel down orientation, which would give you a 45 degree cutting angle?
I assembled the plane incorrectly in the video and it cut terrible. I flipped the blade and it sings! I have plans to redo this video in the near future since I want to build another one. It's a great kit.
what a beautiful piece of kit so much working goes into it smashing send me a tiny one to fit my hands please
Beautiful
ee Valley recommends the iron as bevel DOWN.I noticed you put it in bevel UP.How does this affect the cutting action.?Typically a bevel up is for a low angle plane but this has a bed of 45 degrees .That means you have a 70 deg cut angle instead of 29 deg .I could be wrong but it shouldnt cut very well..
738polarbear You get the hawk eye award. In the video, I installed it with the writing up (bevel up) and it didn't cut very well. After reading the instructions, I flipped it around and was blown away at how good it cut.
Well done Dustin.Nice looking plane.
Can these be made longer like15-18-20 inches
te quedo muy bien, congrats
Funny how many power tools are used to make one hand tool.
Dustin - I do enjoy your vids but that sled with no guard on the exit side really worries me. I damn near cut my thumb off not paying attention on a saw sled - luckily I woke up in time but please build a guard box on that thing - it'll will take you 10 minutes.
I appreciate your concern, but I really don't need one. When I'm using any power tool I am 100% focused on it.
Wow great work. I wonder where do you buy the metal parts for your plane ?
+Hubert Vachon all the details are in the video description
good very good
thank you. thanks. thanks. thanks
Thanks!
Very nice video..
Great job...thanx...
Amazing!
What's that you're putting on @7:39 ? Tin suggests something almond based, but marker pen with "1 cup mo, 2oz BW" - made that wood look really nice indeed.
Details are in the description. Thanks
Mineral oil and bee's wax.
Glued the sides on a bit early, huh? Looks nice in the end!
Want2Race nope. Needed the base on. Thanks.
@@dpmakestuff you definitely glued both sides and the sole on at 1:30 then shortly after, the sides are gone.
Yes. Like I said, I need the base attached. I glue it on and then chopped it off so the sides and the base were attached. If you think about it step by step you'll understand why I did it. If I f'd up I'd admit it... that's not the case here.
@@dpmakestuff did you attach it just to keep the sides flush? I'm a beginner.
I wanted contrasting woods and I wanted the sole to made from a single piece of wood. The first batch of glue ups was just to make a wooden blank. Imagine I skipped the blank glue up and just started with a solid piece of wood. The same steps would have to be taken.
Nice project .. may I suggest that you begin your video with a demo of the finished product first ... just a thought ... thanks!
Like the video thumbnail?
No ... a little performance video in the beginning ... Excellent project!
Norm did that in his projects .. keeps the audience tuned in.
Nice work
Nice work
Would like to see the hardware in real time. Is it a kit or did you make it?
Some videos have additional details in the description. This is one of those.
question, how does a plane like this that has several pieces glued and laminated together hold up with weathering/movement? I've been considering making my own Japanese plane body (dai) but to mortise out the correct bedding angle is extremely difficult on a single block of wood. I would much rather make something like this and glue up some sides.
Wood glue is amazing stuff. Get the right stuff and you'll have nothing to worry about.
Nice work
NIICEE!!!! LIKE100%!!!!
Enjoyed your video. I just bought the kit. I am just wondering what kind of planing you would use this for? What Stanley number would it be if it were a metal plane?
I use it for light planing. It doesn't have a big handle so it might not make a great jack plane. I don't know what number it would be. It's 10" long.
Muy muy bueno la verdad,se saco un 10
levando em conta o prazer de fazer, blz valew o esforço mas honestamente eu prefiro o comprado em loja, mais pesado, mais seguro
