Thanks for posting the most detailed and thorough review online. I’ve test driven with and without the turbo charger. Both were sufficient but the turbo was a blast on the winding hills I drove it on. Didn’t detect any turbo lag on the hills or the interstate. Only about halfway through the review but you’ve already answered a question I forgot to ask the dealer. Appreciate giving the pros and cons as well.
To me, and I’m guessing. That all of these cars have off center rear cameras because it’s more naturally for a person to put their hand under the center of that cargo door to push the button to lift the cargo gate. I know you mention camera placement in a lot of videos. And I’ve had to try to imagine why that is. The best I come up with is that manufacturers estimate that people will reach under the center of that area intuitively. If the camera setup was in the middle then the cargo door open button would have to be offset. Am I wrong?
Looks like the Buick Envision with cladding. Which I believe Mazda and Buick are the only premium brands left. The midway to luxury brands. Years ago used to have Plymouth, Mercury, and a few others. Buick has been rolling solo with no real competition. But Mazda is stepping it up to the next level the past few years.
Currently own a 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback AWD NA. Come mid September, I’ll trade in the 3 for the CX-50 GT Turbo. Test drove both CX-5 and CX-50 turbos and felt that the latter drives more like my 3. Thanks for the great video, Mike!
I have the exact same Mazda3 and love it, but need something a little bit larger. I ordered my CX-50 six months ago and still waiting. The last they told me was next month. At least I still have a great car to drive in the meantime 😜
If it wasn’t for your soothing southern accent, I would have had a headache from listening to all your instructions on how to use all those tiny buttons and submenus! Reminds me of the 2 times someone tried to teach me chess moves too quickly. An instant headache 🤕
I put a deposit down on a CX 70. I didn’t realize the Polymetal Gray Metallic looked so blue. I ordered it in white… now I’m second guessing myself. Does that color really have that much blue in it?
Those SUVs and cars ...even the Telluride and Palisades are so bad they tell you don't even Park them in your garage and park it away from your house as they can catch on fire at anytime.. what crap boxes ...that's what Kia is known for ! This has been going on for years it is something all the time.
Explain why my Kia needed a new motor at 52,000 and they told me oh that’s normal it happens with these cars and with the Hyundais too?? What a piece of junk!
That button on the steering wheel that looks like a wheel between lines is for the Traffic Jam Assist. It’s lane centering below 40mph only. 40+ it’s Mazdas regular lane keep assist where it will gently nudge you back into the lane but that’s all.
I drove it for a week and never experienced any nudge or movement in the steering wheel. If I let go of the wheel at any speed it will run off the road while giving an alert.
@@MikesCarInfo I have the CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus. If you set cruise at 39MPH or under and you are in city traffic, it will, indeed drive itself, like a normal lane keep assist. You turn on cruise, then you hit the LKAS button. The steering wheel icon will turn green (it locks to lines, then also to the car in front of you). I have used it numerous times. So it has the tech. I truly hope in the future that Mazda will remove the 39MPH cap. Technically, by the book, it is for 35MPH and under, but it will work all the way to 39MPH. After that, the steering wheel goes white and you are back into the wheel vibration if you cross a line.
@@chriscollinsradio I can only assume that this vehicle was defective. When I first drove it I was waiting for the steering wheel to turn green and it never did. I cleaned the windshield and drove it on a newly paved road with freshly painted lines... still it did not turn green. Slow/Fast still nothing. I drove it for a week and never experienced the wheel icon turn green nor the steering wheel move at all.
I'm so glad that I didn,t wait the 6-7 month for it to arrive.. I purchased the new CX-5 Signature Turbo, since it was available. I went back to the dealer, and when i was waiting for my car, i sat in it I saw a big difference. Not so good quality interior. you sit very low (as a cx-3) quality drive is not so good on 20's'' The cx-50 looks very good indeed.. but the cx-5 is a better choice for value (and less exepensive)
Hey Mike nice review. Unfortunately this review would only be consistent with this trim and perhaps the Meridian....... all other 7 are lacking. I have owned the 2.5 preferred plus -non turbo for 2 months now and have been severely disappointed. Main 2 reasons would be the engine, which is severely inadequate compared to the turbo, but more importantly because it lacks the 27 combined fuel economy promised (23.2 is my average and i drive 90% highway lol). The other reason is what you only have on the current top trim, and that is the 360 camera! I normally wouldn't care about this but because of the suvs lines or should i say more precisely its awkward hips and aggressive hood flare, i have NEVER in 2 months been able to park or pull in this car straight.... even with the use of the standard backup camera provided on every trim except the trim you tested here. Its actually quite funny. What makes it even funnier is that another reviewer noticed that Mazda gave only the highest trim levels to the reviewers. Currently i think i have found only 4 mid level trim reviews, and of those only 1 that was actually driven when reviewed. Kind of interesting 🧐

This 2023 Mazda CX-50 SUV looks amazing.
Terrific job with your content as always Mike.
Thanks! Your videos are very informative and I like your camera work.
Awesome, thank you!
The yellow pointing finger threw me off the second it came into frame 😂
14:39 just pop out the headrest on the backseat and it folds down just fine.
The seats will fold forward from the rear latches. Pull them all the way. The fuel door also locks 90sec after the rest of the car.
Great info. t's nice that you point out some of the less desirable things that other car journalists don't mention.
Nice detailed review
Thanks! 👍

It is probably a factor since they insist on putting the camera next to the handle.
Also could be more in line with mirrors or when you turn your head. IE makes it a more natural switch if you have not had them prior?

I’m average height and my back seat releases completely and folds completely down .
I hear a cabin shake rattle and vibrate, its similar to mine in the 2019 cx5 Sport. Mazda couldn't resolve it, I traded my cx5 for a cx8 last month.
Very good review
I removed my headrests from the backseat at times because of the issue of the seat folding down automatically. This happened in my VW Tiguan as well.

The beginning, way better than the marketing at Mazda??
Mazda cx9 plz
Does this have WIRELESS Apple CarPlay/Android Auto?
yes 1:00:48
Better to have an extra step on the rear seat than an oversized body style. Ala Suburban~Escalade cinderblock design.
No 20 in tires for me in pennsylania.
That vibration is driving me crazy. I hope mine won’t do that.
Has locking fuel doo and has apple and adroid car play wireless, does not have apple 13 small usb
No, that light you said is for looks is the adaptive lamp, unless you are turning, you wouldn't know.

Those lights work great have them on my 2013 CX5
2:42 maybe those are fog lights
There are no fog lights on this vehicle.
One thing I don't like it that the turn signal is a thin little light at the BOTTOM of the car. WTF is that about?

That infotainment is so small, almost as small as a cellphone.

Small back seat
No it’s not I’m 6 foot one and I can sit in the back with another 6 foot one person driving!!!
Isn't that "vinyl" interior actually leather in the top trim? Terracotta leather in this case.
The seats yes. The doors and other accents are unlikely to be leather.
