    I remember there used to be this guy that sat next to me and every time in our art period when we had to draw, I would cringe so hard watching him. I remember he was using like a soft pencil (so 6B or something) and he kept pressing so hard on the paper. I’m like, be gentle! Eventually the teacher saw wat he was doing and told him. Can’t believe he never listened to me. XD

    Ball point pen sketching is my go to when I feel like I'm slipping into art block. Normally (in art block) I'm not liking my art and with pencil I keep sketching in one spot and erasing and getting more and more frustrated. With pen when I put down the sketch, it's down and I just have to move own. Drawing with a pen keeps me from dwelling on the sketch for too long. Have to get those ugly sketches out, right.

    Whenever I learned I could sketch in pen, all of my friends in my art class would flip out because I couldn't erase. 😂 But I love using pen. It really helped me realize that not everything can be perfect in art and sometimes mistakes can be the best thing about your art. 😊❤

      Same! Also i learned you can shade with a ballpoint pen (or any pen) and no im not talking about the line shading but if you use a ballpoint pen and draw lightly like REALLY LIGHT like your not even touching the paper you get this ligt shade then you push hard as you go and it gets darker when i was younger (10 years old im now 15) this absolutely amazed me lol

    For people dependant on erasers...Certainly don't feel ashamed if you have to still use an eraser, not everyone can achieve great cordination with a pencil or pen from a plethora of reasons, i have a friend who has some motor issues with their hand and sight needing to often erase and fix things to be proportionate enough, even i feel my art has gone a little more stiffer than usual since i started to use pen for half a year now and went back to being more fluid with some help of good ol' pencil and eraser, might not be for everyone : )

      Eh just a lot of artists nowadays say that for you to perfect drawing you should aim to draw with pens just how it states in this video and many others that encourage using a pen buddy, know how you should know how to draw a shape in one go or draw something in less than 10 minutes without the crutch of an eraser/ctrl+Z to do a sketch, just one of these 'elitist' art things going around : ) (Which i actually am trying to work on too, but has stated in my comment, some can't)

      Hi, comment infiltrator here.. anyway, I agree with liking drawings more with a ballpoint pen, I think you can get a good tonal contrast with them, and you can get a lot of different colours to try out. What I wanted to ask though, was even though I use mechanical pencils more than traditional, do you feel like the lines are always sharper? Like, with a wooden pencil you can get a good blend but it's almost impossible with a mechanical. Or is that just me?

    • @Aravis.
      @Aravis. 6 років тому +2

      Doodle Stuff i sketch with mechanical pencil too and i found out that you can sharpen it too. Just use one angle and just “color whole page” under that angle. Then you have a sharp edge and (!) flat side. Then you can use the flat side to blend ;)

    I use pens for sketching as well. When I started, my main go to was either a blue or black pen. Recently I've been using different colored pens gor sketching. Lighter colors such as sky blue or green is used for the body or layout of the drawing. I would than use a darker pen such as purple, black, or blue for the final lines and details. This method helps eases people into sketching in pens without worrying to much about pen pressure. Plus, it makes the sketchbook look colorful.

    this method is the BEST one to improve your drawing skills. i started doing it to force myself to make simpler sketchs bc i used to add way too much detail to a freaking sketch yknow, but after like a month or a few weeks i went back to drawing with pencil and i noticed just how much i had improved???not just in making simpler sketches but in like anatomy and perspective, drawing in general, and i was,, SHOOK!! lol it's super effective ya'll should definitely try it out
    loved the video btw 💞

    Sketching with pen is great. You can't worry about it looking super stream-lined and at the same time it encourages you to work on your accuracy instead of relying on an eraser for that. Something about that sketchy line quality is very appealing too. And all you need is a pen and sketchbook! That's not a lot to carry around for when you want to sketch something randomly.

    Just been working with a ballpoint pen for Inktober and loving it! I used to be hesitant with them, since I've had pen skips in the past (until I've started using Bic pens now)!
    Also drawing lighter is definitely a great beginner tip that I've observed (it takes a while to get used to the muscle memory for lightly drawing, but it's similar to just being mindful of posture and getting used to the feel of various art pens/pencils)!

      Get a really cheap sketchbook (I use a notebook with blank pages that was given me for free by some company) and black pen (they have really pretty look at the end, and can get darker than the blue ones) and just draw. I once challenged myself to draw every picture from celebrities newspaper that I found and even if I did only about 20 of them and the first ones were really bad, there are some that was really good and I was surprised that I was able to do it, and now I'm much better in drawing people. Just start very lightly and don't care about the result, it is in your cheap/bad sketchbook anyway :P
      I prefer sketching with pens, because I can't get very dark with only one, HB pen and the constant need to use an eraser just wastes my time I could use to sketch more.
