This is wild. I guess I always kinda assumed that with how big of a departure Jak II was, ND had enough on their plate just finishing that game alone. Never thought they'd have the time for any serious planning of 3 like this.
Then again, with how wildly Jak II changed between builds as they ironed stuff out, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They really put a ton of ideation work in
(4 year old comment, but:) this wasnt content made strictly for 3, or at least not initially. Jak 3 itself has a lot of cut content that was meant to be in Jak 2 such as the Wasteland (Hence all the references to the Wasteland in Jak 2) and the 8 extra gun mods.
Crazy to think they were already planning Spargus during the Jak 2 development
Very interesting,so jak 3 was indeed planned from the start
I'm always impressed with how much stuff is hidden away in this game
I suppose since 2 and 3 were made so close to each other that they were already planning on expanding the Jak universe, I mean, I think it was obvious that Sig was definitelly not actually from Haven back in Jak 2.
Levels designers were available towards the end of Jak II's development, because the levels were already done.
That’s crazy. Let’s you see how far ND actually planned ahead.
Also is the music from the Jak 3 soundtrack?
Yes.
It’s the spargus city theme but this one sounds different then the one that heard in the game itself
Imagine the kind of game we'd have if the Jak and Daxter series was made today, on modern hardware. We'd have so much more story.
Druckmann would just ruin it again like he did with TLF
@@mememerchant461 ok but imagine if it was naughty dog. Like, they started the game series, today.
all the original creators are gone so I guess it is impossible to create a new Jak game with the story/humor/setting/feel as the trilogy, they tried making Jak 4 and obviously it just looked and felt like a completely different game...
@@fourseven6202 i kinda hope they give the ip to somebody like ratchet and clanks creator forgot the name

This really changes the narrative about how these games were developed.
You just don't stop impressing me. After the eco find in jak 2 I was like "well we figured out everything interesting"
That’s really neat can’t believe that had that in development that early
This is such a super huge find! I was wondering if something like this existed.
So they already have planed the sequel while Jak 2 was made, that xplains they could launch Jak 3 one year later, only if they improved the awful vehicle handling
This is super interesting, I wonder what else there is to find in these games 🤔 starting to remind me of shadow of the colossus with all these hidden things
Damn it looks like they were going to make Jak 2 and Jak 3 one game
this level Jak II WOW
Not surprising. They were working on 3 before finishing 2.
Really? How are you so sure?
@@rayaany.4069 Years and years of reading interviews and behind the scenes material.
0:38 Is that the arena?
Yes.
@@LuminarLight it looks like Naughty Dog used recycled material from the time twister in Crash Bandicoot: WARPED!
Judging from this, Spargus was supposed to have an underground? I saw a door that might have led to a place like that.
3:37
-oh wait that’s damus’ door isn’t it?-
Yeah I am pretty sure it is a placeholder for "Damas' door".
First off awesome discovery! Secondly what version is this? You said it's only in the PS3 version but you recorded it with PCSX2 which is a PS2 emulator so it doesn't make any sense.
Are you meaning to say the PS3 port can be played in PCSX2???
The level itself is from the PS3 version. But with magic it can be loaded in the PS2 version of the game.
thats really cool, i also found something in the third game but you might already know. In haven city if you use light jak flying glitch to jump over the wall east of Vin's station you can see below the daxter game but mainly if you keep going east off the map theres some artifacts or textures hiding out the map but some of it is solid, its really small and pretty far off the map but thats really all i know about it.

@@LuminarLight Ye nice
Crazy find wtff
Is there any possible reason why these unfinished levels are in the PS3 version but not the PS2 version?
PS3 port team had access to original source code and assets. They included a few old test levels among the Jak II files by accident.
Yoo this is super cool!
Awesome maaaaaaaaan
It's incredible! And that would explain why the secondary challenges seem untested. They used that time to start Jak 3.
Level designers are not testers.
@@LuminarLight so, the situation is even worse than I thought 😂
Nothing seems untested in Jak II. When the levels were mostly done, the level designers started working on Jak 3.
I have a quick question, it doesn’t have anything to do with this video, but it does involve Jak 3. When I activate debug mode on my black label ps2 copy, the orange text in the top left reads “global heap fatally low at 46.0K free”. Keep in mind I’m playing on a ps2 Slim, and my memory card is 128MB, so I doubt it has to do with the save data or memory card. Would you know anything about it? I’m guessing it has to do with how much internal memory was left when ND was making the game?
Memory card is irrelevant, it just stores your save game.
In Jak 3, this text can only appear when Cheat Mode is enabled. This is because the global heap is always fatally low, so they decided to hide the message this way. In the July 2004 Internal build it is not hidden behind Cheat Mode. It is not hidden in Jak II either, but in that game the global heap is never fatally low, unless you do some memory leaking stuff.
It just means that there is not much space left in the global heap. It is not dangerous or anything... just a warning for the developers.

That’s what I figured. Thx for the reply
So Spargus had Havens walls.
There is NO way they were actually already coming up with the stuff for 3 during the development of 2.
This is real, and makes sense. Levels were getting finished for Jak II, and they had free people who could be assigned for stuff like this
@@LuminarLight that’s pretty’s neat.
No friggin way! That's so cool!
Uhhh.......what the heck is this?
I find it fascinating that all the most important details are in the same spots. The city being split into two sections. The entrance to Damas' throne room being in the cave between the two sections. The arena. The cliff overlooking the ocean. They're all roughly in the same spot as in Jak3. Often when reusing cut content like this I find devs have a tendency to change it around a bunch
Technically this isn't cut content, this is like early 3D concept for Spargus City. They surely based it on that concept art that I showed in the video. And the final version of the level stayed similar.
@@LuminarLight Yeah hadn't seen the whole video when I wrote that. It's still cool to see this though. The fact that this all existed before Jak 2 was even done is just interesting
Only found in the PS3 version of the game, but recorded in PCSX2?
It was loaded in the PS2 version with magic.
It was used with the opengoal pc port no emulation.
Nvm just realized this was before opengoal existed.
Wait, is this what we can see from afar when looking down and out from the palace?
You can never see this.
Awesome find 👍
Please levels unused
Very interesting.
Thank you for the new prototype.
It was not funded by me. I just spoke with the owner. People paid $250 for the release. I added the donators' names to the Hidden Palace page.
How did you find it?
How did you find this?
Looked at the files of the PS3 version I think.
Ps3? Maybe they plan to add it as a easter egg.
But, in jak 2 they already mess with the idea of a desert and stuff, they talk about it on the story, if i remember correctly krew call jak a steppe, so maybe this were already planned...
What do you think?
This level was made back in the PS2-era. The PS3 porting team did not make any new levels. They just included some extra levels by accident (like this one).
@@LuminarLight yeah, but maybe they already plan to add spargus on jak 2, like i said the game makes a lot of references about it. Or they start to make jak 3 since jak 2, probably when they almost finish jak 2.
That wall Spargus has looks familiar. ua-cam.com/video/Uws818ENIS4/v-deo.html
(Not saying this was intended, i just can't help but make that connection)
I have 2 questions to ask
1 I can find it in pcsx2?
2 where is it?
It is in the files of the PS3 version.
