Think its mostly cause he never really got a "voice". Like Sonic has the energetic cool voice, Amy has the high sweet voice, Tails has the 9 year old voice. But knuckles....man voice.

19:16 EXACTLY!! It's easy to try and pretend that Writing Mistakes didn't happen, but it's not always the best fix. It leaves holes in the story, and it alienates people who didn't see anything wrong. And that approach can pile up; pull blocks from the middle of a Jenga tower and it might hold, but now the structure's unsound-and it'll only get worse as you add more blocks to the top. Confession: I've kinda just... ignored Forces' lore presence for years now. There's so much in it that Doesn't Make Sense to me that it just doesn't connect with the rest of series' history in my head. It's been easier for me to pretend it didn't happen, and I was honestly ready for Sonic Team to do the same. That's what they do with mistakes, right? Ignore them. Refuse to improve or build upon them. But now I realize I was throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I didn't even notice the baby, but whoever wrote Chaos Island's arc did. They raised it and reconciled it with the rest of the series' multiple-game-spanning lore-character-arc Thing. They re-contextualized the Sonic-Help-Me thing in a way that made sense, and made it a learning opportunity in-universe. And now Tails-my favorite character and the one I relate to the most-is all the better for it. He isn't just more well-rounded now-he's grown a little. He's _happier._ Running from the past _is_ a losing game-it never brings you glory. A lot of Frontiers is just... Sonic Team choosing not to run. Not all of it, but enough to make a big difference.
agreed!! it would've been so easy for Flynn for going with that approach but Forces, whether we like or not, it's part of the continuation in the franchise, which means that trying to pretend that never happened would be hypocritical considering the whole idea this game is going with, Flynn managed to make Tails's arc in Forces actually meaningful to his character and give him a similar approach to his Independence's arc that the franchise gave it to him.

Damn, that talk about Knuckles being the only character able to have that specific dynamic with Sonic is just so good. You put into words what I couldn't explain if someone asked me why Knuckles still needs to be around when Shadow is basically Sonic's new rival. Knuckles has come much farther than just a rival. He's a character that's come from enemy to a found family with Sonic and Tails. There's a reason why the movies are depicting them to act like brothers. It's because Knuckles and Tails, they are like brothers in arms with Sonic.

I was just expecting Ares in this part so when the "Welcome to Chaos" intro played and I checked the timeline to see the video was only half over it made my day, amazing work as always. Can't wait for part 3
I fucking love so much that the inconsistency of Tails's character was recontextualized as Tails being young and growing up, not only it shows that this is their way of saying that he's gonna be more consistent with his character moving foward but also it gives Tails a new character arc

The way I interpreted the whole thing with Sage was that she wasn't flashing back to any "good times" she had with Eggman, but wanted a relationship like sonic and tails have after seeing how they treat each other. And the flashbacks with Eggman show that she just.. doesn't get that from him. He doesn't reciprocate the care she shows for him, and Eggman is actively avoiding trying to get attatched. (And noticeably failing.) Although, I can see why it doesn't work for most people. Also, great video all around.

This game may be a little jank on some of the gameplay, but it's a Sonic game, the fact it's only a little is better than most. But it's still such a special game in that it helps the younger fans understand these characters, helps the newer fans have a good intro into the games, and the older fans have reassurance in that they understand these characters again. While I'm a newer fan, thanks Sonic movies, I still love this game man. (Oh also and as always, the music slaps)
Fuck yeah! Great editing, some nice insightful comentaries on what you're thinking of the game, and of course, one of my favorite games from 2022. Flawed, but i would be lying if i said i didn't had a blast and jeezed as much as you with the way past characters were dealt in the story. (Btw i don't know if flynn will stop the references in the next games, the comics are full with music lyrics and past iconic frases references. Like eggman saying "you and i aren't different in the way that we have our own style and we won't change" or metal sonic taunting with "show me what you're made of", but i definitely want him to lessen on the thing after frontiers lol)

Hearing the End of the Battle music again, for the wildest millisecond, made me re-experience the insanity of Shadow of the Colossus and now gears are turning in my head about how Sonic could do something much, *much* closer to that game in the future.
Also, I agree with you about Sage. As someone who didn’t get all the egg memos in their first playthrough, I really didn’t understand Eggman and Sage’s attachment to one another and felt like it was a tad underdeveloped. I was surprised to find out that we can see how Eggman felt about Sage but we have to unlock all the egg memos to do so.
This video was so good I had to watch it from the start after it ended but you have even more of my respect for putting all the music in the description AND IN ORDER
20:35 I think it's more about her wishing she had a closer relationship with Eggman, not implying that they already have one, given how much Eggman hides his feelings, even towards the end of the game, as well as her dialogue before the flashback about sonic and tails' relationship. The lyrics of the flashback song reflect the idea that even though she's not sure how he sees her, she wants to protect him and make him proud, and maybe, hopefully, they can form a loving relationship without blood.
Mixing in classic ALtheBoi style of analyzing, editing, and discussion with your first playthrough is SO SUPERB. A style I truly haven't seen anywhere else. Much better than just rushing to get out first impressions while game hype is abuzz ike everyone else; especially since hindsight (like the budget speculation becoming a confirmed thing 😅😂) can also be worked in. This game's writing and character interactions really got me just as excited when I first played. On paper, it's just simple stuff, but for a game franchise as starving as Sonic, it was a 5-star meal 😙👌🏿 that was immensely needed. Bless Ian Flynn 🙏🏿; please SEGA keep him around from this point forward.
This is great. It's half-review, half-"let's play" and somehow part retrospective. Only thing I've gotta say is I'm surprised you didn't call attention to Super Sonic flinching away from Knuckles's intangible fist out of instinct. That's solely in the animation and that's just... well-done.

I think Tails has un-diagnosed mental quirks that might explain why he's so inconsistent. In my head-cannon, it's something similar to Asperger's, which is characterized by extreme intelligence and the inability to pick up on social cues. Growing up like that, you quickly learn how to 'mask' your symptoms so that you look normal and people like you. However, there are times when you just can't keep it up by masking, so you end up suffering a temporary mental break-down.
The editing has gotten enough praise (not that it doesnt deserve it), but I really wanna say how cool it is how natuarally the criticism and compliments are woven togehter, idk, i know i do see it from time to time, but somehow it feels especiallyu cool performed by your man Al ACTUALLY EDIT BECAUSE I CANT WITH THIS PEAK CONTENT: I honestly think that, if not sonic team, then overall game developers should take not from the kinda cutscene editing you do, that transition from the tails cutscene to sage destroying those GUN units felt GOOD. They were completely unrelated but it felt GOOD to watch And while I myself in the moment didnt feel as strongly about Sage's story not being quite *there* for her to sacrifice herself I did during the ending itself feel she had a lot of potential but was underused, thats why I was excited and not dissapointed at the final post-credits cutscene, because I wanna see more from her. And hopefully in a way that gives her character enough room to truly shine Not that I actually think what Frontiers did is straight up BAD, I just really wanna see more, or a different angle explored ina different way still

Really like how you went for more of a movie kind of editing this time, it feels like i am just watching a film about events happening. The actions scenes of this video are also pretty cool! It's like the events of something have some kind of weird impact to the video, like complementing it Even tho this video wasn't my cup of tea, i really loved it!
The fact that made me think that Chaos isn't that bad is how platforming challenges are so compacted together, that means you have the capability to break 2D sections and unlock memory tokens a lot faster, which is insanely fun tho. I also love how you can take advantage of platforms for traveling through the Open Zones STUPIDLY FAST. Also the beggining felt like a Clint Eastwood/John Ford classic (now seriously I laughed so hard bruh 💀💀💀).

This game may be a little jank on some of the gameplay, but it's a Sonic game, the fact it's only a little is better than most. But it's still such a special game in that it helps the younger fans understand these characters, helps the newer fans have a good intro into the games, and the older fans have reassurance in that they understand these characters again.
While I'm a newer fan, thanks Sonic movies, I still love this game man. (Oh also and as always, the music slaps)

Fuck yeah! Great editing, some nice insightful comentaries on what you're thinking of the game, and of course, one of my favorite games from 2022. Flawed, but i would be lying if i said i didn't had a blast and jeezed as much as you with the way past characters were dealt in the story. (Btw i don't know if flynn will stop the references in the next games, the comics are full with music lyrics and past iconic frases references. Like eggman saying "you and i aren't different in the way that we have our own style and we won't change" or metal sonic taunting with "show me what you're made of", but i definitely want him to lessen on the thing after frontiers lol)

Agreed on how you said it's the perfect balance for Knuckles because it really can't be done with Tails or Shadow like you said, which gives Knuckles a great character to work off (that they didn't for many years but they did now and that's what counts) Also, 14:51 That's how I felt playing the entirety of that island. Also, I agree with you about Sage. As someone who didn’t get all the egg memos in their first playthrough, I really didn’t understand Eggman and Sage’s attachment to one another and felt like it was a tad underdeveloped. I was surprised to find out that we can see how Eggman felt about Sage but we have to unlock all the egg memos to do so.

20:35 I think it's more about her wishing she had a closer relationship with Eggman, not implying that they already have one, given how much Eggman hides his feelings, even towards the end of the game, as well as her dialogue before the flashback about sonic and tails' relationship. The lyrics of the flashback song reflect the idea that even though she's not sure how he sees her, she wants to protect him and make him proud, and maybe, hopefully, they can form a loving relationship without blood.
Mixing in classic ALtheBoi style of analyzing, editing, and discussion with your first playthrough is SO SUPERB. A style I truly haven't seen anywhere else. Much better than just rushing to get out first impressions while game hype is abuzz ike everyone else; especially since hindsight (like the budget speculation becoming a confirmed thing 😅😂) can also be worked in. This game's writing and character interactions really got me just as excited when I first played. On paper, it's just simple stuff, but for a game franchise as starving as Sonic, it was a 5-star meal 😙👌🏿 that was immensely needed. Bless Ian Flynn 🙏🏿; please SEGA keep him around from this point forward.

I think Tails has un-diagnosed mental quirks that might explain why he's so inconsistent. In my head-cannon, it's something similar to Asperger's, which is characterized by extreme intelligence and the inability to pick up on social cues. Growing up like that, you quickly learn how to 'mask' your symptoms so that you look normal and people like you. However, there are times when you just can't keep it up by masking, so you end up suffering a temporary mental break-down.

ACTUALLY EDIT BECAUSE I CANT WITH THIS PEAK CONTENT: I honestly think that, if not sonic team, then overall game developers should take not from the kinda cutscene editing you do, that transition from the tails cutscene to sage destroying those GUN units felt GOOD. They were completely unrelated but it felt GOOD to watch
And while I myself in the moment didnt feel as strongly about Sage's story not being quite *there* for her to sacrifice herself I did during the ending itself feel she had a lot of potential but was underused, thats why I was excited and not dissapointed at the final post-credits cutscene, because I wanna see more from her. And hopefully in a way that gives her character enough room to truly shine
Not that I actually think what Frontiers did is straight up BAD, I just really wanna see more, or a different angle explored ina different way still

Really like how you went for more of a movie kind of editing this time, it feels like i am just watching a film about events happening. The actions scenes of this video are also pretty cool! It's like the events of something have some kind of weird impact to the video, like complementing it

The fact that made me think that Chaos isn't that bad is how platforming challenges are so compacted together, that means you have the capability to break 2D sections and unlock memory tokens a lot faster, which is insanely fun tho.
I also love how you can take advantage of platforms for traveling through the Open Zones STUPIDLY FAST.
Also the beggining felt like a Clint Eastwood/John Ford classic (now seriously I laughed so hard bruh 💀💀💀).
