Just wanted to add that I'm using entrance/exit the roundabout other way around. In this video, you split avenue into two off ramps which is a good idea. I create two one way roads that go to and from roundabout, delete entry points, use an avenue for entrance exit and connect one way roads to avenue. Reason for this is that you create less intersections that are main problem of traffic congestion. Thumbs up on the video.
Did anyone else nozice that the traffic in the last shot flows faster mostly because he got rid of the T Intersection (with traffic light) after the circle? ;)
The title of the video should say that you are using a mod. More than half of the efficiency in the new roundabout is because of the mod. This is a good video for showing how to use a traffic mod for efficient roundabouts.
You people in the comments complaining that he is using mods know nothing about the game, lol. These are inherent flaws in the game that the mods simply allow the player to micromanage. They arent cheats in any way, they just allow the player another REALISTIC layer of managing the roads. In real life, you dont hear city planners saying "Oh no, we cant have a two-lane roundabout here, becuase then people wont use the inner lane, because we cant paint the road markings to indicate that they are allowed to turn right there." No, they just fuckin paint whatever lane rules they want on whatever road they need it on, lol. Same with traffic lights, in real life you dont have city planners saying "Nah sorry, we really NEED a 6-lane avenue intersection here, but we cant have one without traffic lights, because the road already comes packaged with the traffic lights auto-enabled." No, they just fuckin decide which intersections have lights and which dont, based on the need for the best flow of traffic. So dont complain that the tips include mods, the mods are essential if you want to play the game in a more realistic micromanagement way, to expose realistic proper rules for where and how traffic flows. They add MORE complexity to the game. And yes of course it can be argued that it makes the game easier if you have the tools available to micromanage the rules of the roads, but they are all realistic rules, nothing cheaty, it just gives you the options. They just allow you to avoid the inherent flaws of the game itself. If the game actually had proper tools for choosing the lanes and intersection options, the vanilla game would be "easier" too. It is hard because it has flaws, not because of a legitimate gameplay challenge.
+Cyler s every time an update comes along that breaks mods, it takes about a week for a new traffic management mod to be uploaded, be patient and browse the workshop
+Baleur Don't worry, anyone who disagrees eloquently with you or Asilksworld gets censored. So the only arguments that are well thought out you will hear are your own and the only arguments countering you will be the morons he doesn't censor to make you look better like a straw-mans argument. UA-cam comments are pathetic, cowardly, censorship havens for the intellectually weak.
I'd like people to give advice without resorting to use mods since I'm after the various achievements too and mods disable them. Thanks for the other useful tips though!
Blodørn it's amazing how much the game has change now no? now we pretty much have this.. they still need to let us set priority on individual lanes, but we can at least do it for whole streets now 😀 they listen, even if it takes a while. and that's the vanla game no dlc just updates. lot of the mods I used to have are now moot because they've been incorporated like the one that allows you to add street names, or see the flow of traffic
If you use the yellow diamond to set priority from one direction, you don't need a yield sign from the other direction. Leaving it blank will allow cars to go through the intersection fast when there are no approaching cars coming from the priority road.
If you don't want to use mods, the way to create 'perfect' round-abouts is to follow a simple rule. Enter from the inner, exit from the outer. Using bridges, tunnels, whatever, all entrances to a roundabout should enter to the inside of the circle, all exits from a roundabout should exit from the outside of the circle. Even if one exit backs up, most of the time the other exits will still function.
Why are people crying about mods? The entire point of the game is to build, mods gives you more tools to build with, what's the harm? It's not like this allows you to slay the level 100 end game boss when you're level one, this mod in particular only does something you can do in real life by allowing you to change signs at intersections.
Yes i agree also Game developer are becoming lazy as they think bulk of the polishing of the game will be done by the modder .So mods are becoming very important part of enjoying a game .Strategy or building games shine more with more options
This is going to be helpful. On one of my roundabouts it has so much traffic that It reaches the Highway and that roundabout is deep into the city well was until I lost my saved games
If you're complaining about mods, or were, then you should know that this mod has been integrated and is now a base game feature. Which goes to show this mod is how the devs would've had it.
I will say, from what little I can see of your city, that that intersection that was between your two roundabouts in the beginning of the video was probably a contributor to the failure of the right roundabout as well. Traffic was getting stuck on it too much, backing up into the roundabout and clogging it up in the process.
If you notice on the right the four lane has, on its right-hand side, two arrows pointing left. If you had the outermost lane pointing left and the innermost lane pointing straight, you'll have much better traffic flow. Then again, this video is over half-a-year-old.
Great video. I know without even looking through the comment section people will cry about mods. And its a fair complaint. if you are going to use mods, there are so many other options for traffic that it makes the round about unnecessary) . We like stock and default gameplay :) But like I said.. good video.
This comment section is such a train wreck. Where did all these frustrated anti-mod crusaders come from? I was under the impression that C:S was mostly played by people who enjoy a good simulation. Apparently I was wrong.
I think it has more to do with the frustration the game developers created by making people need a mod to get things to work logically and what should be included. It is shitty for those who want their damn roundabouts done correctly... The lack of merging of on-coming lanes.... Most complaints probably come from console users which I think lacks a lot of the mod material?
The end version of the roundabout is better but only because the crossing right after it was deleted. This crossing was making the cars stop and clogging up the roundabout. I don't think all the other changes helped.
I just watched this and agree that if you need mods to make the traffic better then it's not a tutorial in terms of vanilla management.. Also you can clearly see that at the start of the video he had a intersection with lights between the roundabout which will cause the back log but then he removed it from 4 mins mark.. Umm you don't alter the original roading between the roundabouts as this clearly makes the flow a lot better... Bit of advice.. Please be consistent in your video..
I don't understand the people complaining about this video. The only function of the mod he used was to allow the vehicles on the roundabout to have right of way, and to properly fix lane directions, something that an actual roundabout would have done. "You're bad cause you can't use the default functions!" The vehicles are only as sensible as the person who coded them, and whilst they did a fairly decent job, they won't work efficiently in every situation. All the mod does is help to perfect the vehicle AI to make them more realistic and sensible about where they go. If you don't want to play with mods - don't. Nobody is forcing you to. If you want to complain about you using 4 minutes of your life, you need to get a fucking grip lol.
Thanks for making this video and others from city skylines, they have helped me a lot. Mods or no mods...its a great game..mods only at more fun to it.;o) Keep going please..
Thanks for the advise about highway. But it would be better if you can show on the title that you are using mods. I expected this video to be helpful for vanilla game, without mods. Personally i'd prefer not being limited to 9 tiles. but that's about all that i need by now that hasn't been patched in already, and won't be coming with Mass Transit (as of what i've seen). Other things, like bus lanes, i modded in before they got patched into the vanilla game. ^^
I gave you a LIKE because your roundabouts realy work. But! That inside lane of the circle is for nuts. Why? Because I talk bye experience. The drivers in Schweinfurt never use that lane, and when you watch your video again, the people of your city don't use it eather.
i know this video came out 2 years ago... and the devs are only now finally fixing the problem with the upcomming update... But Fuck i hate when ppl want to explane stuff of a game and telling ppl they require a mod to fixi t.
What is if I remove this mod after using it? Will my street and my safe file still work?

***** Maybe I want to play sometimes without mods. Maybe because I want to send the safe file to a friend, who plays without mods. The mod I recommend is steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=583429740 Pretty sure it's the one being demonstrated here. It comes up once it's been subscribed. (make sure its on in the content manager)
Should really call this video a Traffic Manager showcase or something of the sort. People get the impression you're going to show them vanilla gameplay unless stated otherwise. I know the mods are fairly common to correct a lot of the oversights of this small development team, but it's getting old searching for how to videos for skylines and constantly getting results that basically boil down to them using a mod to achieve the effect.
Turned this off when you blamed the roundabout for the traffic instead of that ridiculous intersection between them... Why even have a roundabout if you're not going to properly utilize it?
well i have a reason to complain about the use of mods, my PC is barely running this game at acceptable framerate, any mods that add more factors to the simulation will hamper my ability to build big cities, so mods have to be kept at a minimum!
+Florens Jocker (FiMaJo), yes it is: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=583429740 You can also combine it with another one: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=626024868
+william larsson Wow! You pirate the game then insult people who suggest you do the decent thing. You're the reason that DRM is as intrusive as it is and prices for games are getting higher.
+william larsson I can't disagree with him and please don't swear at me, I paid you the courtesy of using my manners and typing out full words. I would be happy to conduct both of these if you are interested?
+Justin Iaconis (robobunnyz123) The best tip he gave in this video he never even mentioned. Traffic in his roundabout was being stopped up by the stoplight between the two roundabouts. When he showed his roundabout after using highway ramps the stoplight was gone allowing traffic to flow freely. The ramps are a good tip but didn't fix his problem.
"he didn't say it was modded!" spare me, if you have a good enough internet connections to download the game you sure as hell download a small mod, stop complaining, if you want to play the vanilla game then you must understand that the game has flaws, and as such you can't fix traffic jams as effectivaly as this mod does, sure the highway ramps and highway might help a bit but won't reach the level of the mod, you have to accept the fact that the game is flawed in that regard and if you are really that stubborn that you won't accept it then maybe you should a break, or play a different game.
Rown Aerith no, the last update brought STOP signs. The whole point of a yield sign is that you dont have to stop if there is no traffic on the priority lane. With a stop sign, every car has to stop which kills traffic flow. Stop signs are fucking everywhere in the US, not so in Europe. Since this game is from a Finnish dev, I wonder what the hell they were doing.
Just wanted to add that I'm using entrance/exit the roundabout other way around. In this video, you split avenue into two off ramps which is a good idea. Death Mwauthzyx Wot?
+Death Mwauthzyx I've got a neutral question:
when mods just make the game more realistic, why are ALL achievements disabled, when I activate a mod?

Great video! I'm finding congestion of traffic to be the number one challenge in this game. Having a lot of fun micromanaging it though!

dude very helpful trafikk his realy bad in my city
unless your french ofcourse, they have weird rules..

so you make the road bigger? woo hoo
u are roundabout god

what traffic manager mod do you use?
How can you play cities Skylines without Mods???

They should just bring out a "Build the city for me cos I cant be arsed to put any effort in" mod
is it relaly a tip if you have to use a mod?
+Justin Iaconis (robobunnyz123) The best tip he gave in this video he never even mentioned. Traffic in his roundabout was being stopped up by the stoplight between the two roundabouts. When he showed his roundabout after using highway ramps the stoplight was gone allowing traffic to flow freely. The ramps are a good tip but didn't fix his problem.
thegreatninjaman yes.
#freenfkrz
i fucking hate roundabouts
Solution, use mods. No thanks!
@conflictnerddylan
Thumbs down. Requires mods and is not valid for console versions
ultimatum123456 play on pc.
Come back and thumbs up and put your troll foot in mouth. Console version update ftw
"Here's how to make a roundabout" - "first download this mod"....
I was hoping for a guide.
Naggert Simpson well, I was hoping for a more realistic game so I wouldn't have to mod it to all hell but none of us can get what we all want, eh?
now you can do that "realistic game" you want, since the last update brings basically what the mods do.
Not the best advice....
