Yes but it makes no sense to use your body as a controller. There are insane limitations, it's not practical and it's not intuitive. Think about it, try to aim and shoot with mouse (mouse move and left click), now imagine the same process with your body. No controller, not even VR ones or Wii remotes, just body. You can't. I get why use it in robotics, in computer programming or even as a Smart TV remote but why on earth would you use your body as a controller ?

Honestly for $100 the Kinect was pretty cool. I still have mine for my 360 and there's a game called Kinect Sports that's basically like a pretty evolved version of Wii Sports. They even made a second one that was pretty good as well. I remember getting drunk as fuck in college and playing that game because there was no controller involved so it got super competitive and was an easy way to get girls involved that wasn't just Mario Kart.
The kinect was soooo fun, I have so many memories playing with my family - the best games were Star Wars and Pixar-movies games, also the sport games were super fun. I know it didn't work always as it should but I didn't care cause I was a kid and if it worked from time to time than that was all I wanted

I've used Kinect as a developer, the Kinect are actually crazy good and accurate. The use for most games like shown here just ain't it. They said at the beginning "the controller is a barrier", that was a good line, but then they continued to show people that can actually use controllers as well. The technology is actually good for disabled people that can't use the controller at all. Or using the hand-gestures for other use cases other then games. (I used it for a rehabilitation software, there was one a 1 sec clip of this in this whole presentation).
I do agree that controllers can be a barrier…because most people can learn to move parts body to play a game. Like elderly people and kids or those who have accessibility needs.
Kinect was a big failure for gaming but it's tech was actually really well suited for 3D modelling. the way you can take 3D scans with it and port them into 3dsmax or blender really helped out a lot of people including one of my friends with modelling.
Honestly, this just reminded me how much I loved the XBOX 360 Kinect. There was no better games to play with my siblings than the Kinect FeelsStrongMan

Kinect was actually impressive. The tech would've made much improvement today. However, the company (PrimeSense) that made the tech was bought by Apple and its currently being used for facial biometrics, Face ID. Kinect is still around though, but not for Xbox gaming anymore, but for enterprise and business purposes with cloud integration, called Azure Kinect.

Dance Central was much better than Just Dance, it was less forgiving since you couldn't cheat and had to actually match your whole body to the dance moves in the higher difficulties.

It’s revolutionary or not, you have to pay homage the boundaries game industry were pushing back then. You don’t see a lot of bold moves from those companies nowadays (except maybe the switch, but that thing is basically modern psp)
