Wow. I love Jason and only subbed to Jeremy's channel in the last week so it's great to see this interview. It's good to hear withinb the first minute Jeremy comment on the level of practice and hardwork Jason puts in.
Excellent interview and I'm pleased to hear Jason explain many of his well earned insights, the WAY he did! Separating the "character" from the student and the importance of self reflection and proper practice etc! My respect for Jason the human being just went soaring! No sugar coating the PRACTICE! Wow! Amazing interview! Jason's comment about starting learning by copying and then becoming comfortable really resonated with me.
Jason's style is that one, I really enjoy watching. Also my teacher has this type of style and humor and it's just the best entertainement you can find in the world, in my opinion.

Two favorites!
Jason, your advice on riffle stacking drills, blew the door off of its hinges. I’ve been stuck behind that door, for the last year or so. I never devoted any significant practice time to it, until about a year ago. One of the most significant things you said, was to just pull the trigger, all in one go, and eventually that feel will develop. I got quicker over time, but was still stuck in that phase of hesitating between the packs, and dropping cards, in too much of a calculated, sus manner. You’re the man, but you already know that lol 👌

The advice on having a dedicated space, is VITAL. I learned that many many years ago, as an artist. Prior to having a studio space, I had to pull all of my tools and materials out of my closet, every time I was inspired to work. Which meant, there were so many days, I could’ve been doing it, but didn’t, due to the hassle of setting up, and breaking down afterwards. Few years ago, I upholstered the entire top of my coffee table, with 1/4” auto upholstery foam, and velvet. Luckily, my girlfriend loves cards also, and we have tables next to the couch, for our drinks, etc. For me, it was a game changer, since I devote a lot of my time to table work

i have been struggling in my mind with a question :
I have been into magic for a year now and i know its not long but ryt now i am learning stuff and gettinf better at somethings i already know, but what keeps bugging me is that i see different famous magicians have there own style, like for instance jason likes stuff neat and clean and stylish and i am like i want that to be me in like next decade or whatever but then i see lennart green doing false Rossetta and i am like the amount of magical feeling that instills in audience is different, that gives a moment of magic but i feel what jason does shows them that as he said that this guy knows ehat he is doing or they think damn he has put his life into it and they see it as skill. I am just struggling to find a path forward, is it like okay to grasp what i like from everyone or to have a better future i need to focus on one way of performance or style.

I know what what you mean. I started that way and it is ok to explore different performing styles and types of magic (cards, coins, mentalism, etc.).
After a while it just comes to you being honest with yourself. I study Darwin's and Jason's magic, because I like precision and skill that is conveyed to the audience directly (gam demos) or indirectly (magic tricks), the confidence, the suits and the confidence-based humor, making a very good living doing this. On the other hand, as magicians we like methods and books and DVDs and toys and cool trailers and see magicians as form of entertainment, etc. So you have to be honest with yourself about what you want at the end and WHY, e.g. create the illusion of impossibility for laymen or fool magicians, have cool methods and little patter or good story, chaotic or precise and why, cuz you want to be paid for this doing it for laymen or want to hang out with magicians, etc. There is no right answer, just be honest with yourself as you go along this journey, so that if you don't like the results, you can quickly adjust course.
Btw you should book a lesson with him, he has 30 years experience, so he has studied Darwin's work, but many others too, so he should be able to help you out.

@@amateurcardician2379 jason has discounts throughout the year. Recently it was the Valentine's day one with 14% off. He does them around USA national holidays or as a summer sale. Register to his mailing list and check your mail at most every 3 days and you should be able to catch one of those. I have 1-3 lessons a year with him, so I know what it is like to feel that money is stopping you from becoming better, but as you will experience it yourself it is actually saying what you want and working on it and measuring your progress, again being objective and honest with yourself, and the money is there to facilitate your work, not to substitute it.

Just keep practicing sleight of hand and preforming for friends and family. It takes time to develop your own style. It will come to you
How does it work when you're creating a character that is basically unlikable (Jason plays up many unlikable characteristics)... Does he make it obvious that it's tongue in cheek? (The clips I've seen don't always make it that obvious, but maybe in his show it's more apparent.) How does he make sure overall he's likable to his audience? Or is that not important to him?
Edit: A little later in the interview he mentions that they understand it's a character, although I still feel he's a little too strong with it.
Jeremy sounds like Bill Burr when he's imitating stuck up LA moms...no offense, just how it is.
OK, honest question. Is it distracting from the interview? I was born and raised in Southern California, and I got to imagine that bleeds through and the way that I talk. Has it gotten to the point where it distracts from what’s being said?
