As someone who's worked at liquor stores in Texas... We had undercover people who were obviously of age come in all the time for alcohol and cigs. If you didnt ID them, I think it was 3 times, you'd be fired. However, if you did you'd get $20. Then there was times when they'd have undercover kids come in and try the same, in those cases you could go to jail.
Lol I live in Cali and I’ve been buying alcohol underage for 3 years I’m 20 now
@@streettravelxxi congrats?
One other thing that Brits find weird: Americans put ice in soda, tea, and water. My dad is from the southern US and ordered an iced tea when he was in London. The waiter took down the order carefully, and then went to the bar, and started up the ice grinder lol. He came out with this tea in a tall glass with a big umbrella in it, and he was so pleased when my dad said it was good! Haha
It gets a lot hotter in the US than it does in most parts of northern England, though. It's the same with lager: cellar temperature beer in London is a lot different than what room temperature beer would be in Texas in July.
Personally I like ice cold drinks. I put ice in my drinks yearround.
I don't care for ice in my drinks, unless I am using a straw. When I lived in the south my friends would leave their soda outside of the fridge and just add ice, which blew my mind.
@@brandonaston2261 me too.
Regarding drinks, you can refuse the free refills and nobody cares. Just like coffee in a diner, a subtle indication of "no thank you" or "yes please" when they come by with the decanter or pitcher is all you need.
The chips thing still gets me. I know your talking about fries but when I hear chips it still throws me off for a second. Much love for your channel from Tennessee
Trey, i lived in Germany 3 yrs and i got hooked on their pome frits mit mayonniaise myself. (French fries with mayonnaise.) Tastes great but mayo his VERY high in calories. Sometimes the europeans have some nice combinations.
@L M because we do have the best food in the world lol so much variety it’s insane
Here is a fun fact in an hour show there is 20 minutes of commercials
They also speed up movies on TV to be able to add 30 secs or more in commercial selling time.
Dave mentioned putting all the adverts together and making them longer. No one is going to sit around and watch the adverts that way. They'll either change the channel or go to the kitchen. Believe me, I'd rather not have my show interrupted every 10 minutes but that's just how it is.
@@imajhawk6146 So, true. Having grown up before the age of DVR's and online streaming, this is what I was used to. Now I prefer streaming or using the DVR to skip the ads. I get what they are saying but I don't think they know the effect of what they're asking. They are inadvertently asking for free service (broadcast) from a private entity without any way for the private entity to re-coop the cost of providing that free services. To be fair, I would want that, too, but I think it's unrealistic.
@@imajhawk6146 I much rather have all the adverts at a certain time so I know that's when not to turn on the TV and have a different channel play the movie/show or I could do something different while the ads play on the other channel, but I agree that probably means many won't watch TV often
Which is why I never watch live TV.
Think of American cable as youtube without paying for premium or adblock. The more popular a channel, the more companies will pay to put an ad on the channel; maximizing profits as much as humanly possible lol
Yeah, Its a legal requirement here in the states to ask for I.D. otherwise the employee can get in trouble. And since there are cameras everywhere. They have to for the camera.
Not only will the employee be fined they will also be fired. Its also known that cops send in decoys to make sure people are asking for ids.
I don't find things weird from other countries because I know each country in the world have their own and different ways of doing things. I actually find it interesting and like learning how different cultures do things differently. I mainly like the different foods.
I've never had any European gett offended by receiving a tip. I grew up there, and hande traveled there for decades. Not once did someone get offended lol.
Not sure about Europe, but this is certainly a thing in Japan.
Yeah never once was someone offended in Europe in any country. They did check to make sure we didn’t accidentally leave our change. But they were pleasantly surprised and happy to receive it. If we stayed in a city for a while, they always wanted us back.
8:00
In our country, it's 85% commercial/ads and 15% content.
You'll literally sit watching random commercials for 15-30 minutes. Then a content that lasts 10 minute or less.
A person from Europe eating at Cheesecake Factory will have their mind blown
Yeah at mass amounts of mediocre food
by the random crazy guy, waving a gun!
And their wallet.
😂
@@F28aj yea but at least the cheesecake is god tier
The TV advert thing is a psychology trick. If they put adverts between programmes then viewers are more likely to switch channels. Instead they put the advert just before the end, then show the end credit, often with some end credit content, then immediately start the next programme in the hope that if the viewer sees a couple of minutes of content of the next show they are more likely to not switch channel during the next ad break.

I don't know if the law's changed since then, but when I worked at a deli 20 years ago, the requirement was to ask for ID (for alcohol) if they appeared to be younger than 35. I remember seeing as recently as 10 years ago labels on convenience store counters that said the same.
There are still now plenty of countries in Europe where you often can't pay with cards. "European" doesn't necessarily mean "British".
Well that's why it makes no sense for Americans to compare the US to Europe all the time
Where I live in Arkansas the law is that you must check ID if they appear under 40 for alcohol or tobacco. Most stores however make their own policy to check EVERYONE regardless of their perceived age. In my experience it's the 35-45 crowd that gets angry about this and not the 60+ folks lol.
EDIT: Oh, also forgot to mention with the above law, that is a federal law (ATF) and if someone gets caught not carding someone they should (which happens all the time, because the cops often hire kids to go in and try to buy tobacco when they are underage to entrap them) the cashier that sold the items get a fine as well as the business. It happened to a good friend of mine. He carded someone, but didn't properly read their birth date so sold it anyway, and then a cop came in and handed him the ticket. He was fired per company policy and received a fine.
I'm right there with you, Mike. Ketchup for me too
That's why I go to quik-e-marts where they know me the strictness is usually at national chains not local liquor stores.
I used to do a side gig for gas stations where they would hire us as a service to go into their shop and test the employees. If we didn't get carded, we would hand them a red card, and green if they did. Then we would report what happened to our dispatcher. The employee was mandated to give that card to their manager. Federal law mandates if you look under 40 you must be carded. No exceptions beyond that. Hope I did t get anyone fired, but the fines and threat of losing their license to sell smokes is a big deal for these businesses.
That's okay I'm an American and I still wonder why people are wearing gym clothes out and about
Me too!
Because I can and it’s comfortable. Why would I not wear gym clothes.
@GamerKat'71 true I live in a hot climate but I'm old school and it just seems weird :)
Americans prioritize comfort and convenience over almost everything else.
As someone that lives in the state of Georgia, GO GEORGIA BULLDOGS, I’ve never met anyone that has relations with their relatives and I was told while buying cigs that if you look under the age of 40 they are required to ID you, alcohol is required I believe for any age or they could loose their liquor license. My husband use to help bust stores when he was underage by going in and purchasing for local law enforcement that was over 15 years ago when underage sales were way to often. Now most people around here are pretty worried about loosing that license. Also I don’t think y’all’s are grumpy, I enjoy watching your channels.
Television is a regulated industry, but still a privately owned or corporate interest. So all of their revenue comes from advertising rather than being run by a division of the government. The most serious failing of this type of arrangement is the fact that news is an entertainment product and barely has to conduct itself as though relaying information were important.
On the up side...the government doesn’t ultimately control the news.🤷🏻♂️
That last one was soooo insulting 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤙🏼😂
The credit/debit card thing: In Europe, or at least in Scandinavia, debit cards became the norm wayy before the US collectively decided that paying by card is so much better. And I've heard that only now they're getting contact-free/wireless cards, whilst we've had it for ages in Norway. And they just introduced PINs instead of signature like a couple years ago... Yeeeah, I'm not so sure about that point in the video either.
I love fries with mayo and ketchup together. Usually paprika, garlic or cucumber mayo.
Mix mayo and ketchup, or mayo and bbq sauce to make Fry Sauce. Totally a Utah thing that's been gradually spreading around the US. Dip fries into it or even put it on a burger and you won't want any other condiment ever again.
The thing about mayonnaise with chips is Americans assume it's mayonnaise from a jar like you'd get at the market. I'm from L.A. but spent several years living in Germany and travelling all over continental Europe. It's much more like a house sauce made in the kitchen of the restaurant, with some herbs and different ingredients. At least from my experiences.
Okay you answered an ongoing question I've always wondered. I have friends from Germany, Bulgaria, Scotland, and they all swear by mayonnaise when dipping their fries. And they've all said the same thing you said, that it tastes differently there than here in the states. What you described makes a lot more sense. Appreciate that clarification!
Sometimes it's almost like sour cream and chives, and sometimes it's almost like ranch. But it all has the same base. You get me?
@@iesickboy I gotcha. Now I'm intrigued. I might need to save up some money just to try it out. Well, also to go traveling lol
@@serpentisma oh travel as often as you can, and whenever possible. Great big world. Learn different cultures and expand your experiences and memories. We only have this one life.
@@iesickboy Oh absolutely! I traveled a lot pre-2020. Just hadn't visited Europe too much. But I am looking to change that in the near future :)
Ppl have thought i was 30 since I was like 15-16... but I don't smoke or drink so never took advantage of that
I looked 14 till 20

im not sure everywhere but where i live in the us you can work in a liquor store and there are governement officials who will get underaged kids to try and buy stuff and they can get their licenses revoked as well as hefty fines and most of the times a loss in employeement
some registers can't proceed with the sale without a scanned ID for Tabaco
Think Mike is right about house sizes. Unless you live in a city, there is more room to build. Which also explains why the highways and interstates are larger. Work in receiving in a small town. Deal with truck drivers all day long. Many of the do a few hundred miles everyday on just a local route. FYI also operate a forklift, electric pallet jack, and walkie stacker on a daily basis.😂
California is fairly sane on our ID laws with regards to Alcohol & Tobacco. They have to ask for your ID if you APPEAR to be under the age of 30. There's also the exemption for "repeat customers". i.e. if you visit the same Quicky-Mart every day to get a beer, they don't have to pull your ID every time. Just the first time..
They got you guys heated with the teeth at the end, lol
im from europe
but i gotta say the united states has the best restaurant system
you got everyones food
Mayo on fries is amazing! (New Jersey, USA)
In the U.S. in a lot of places if you don't look at least 40-45, you're expected to be carded. We're ridiculously overly cautious about underage buying.
Hahaha I have grey hair , well over 21 and I get asked for ID every single time I buy a beer.
Since your glass is full of ice, you’re not getting that much extra in your drinks.
They probably do this in England too, but they have actual “sting” operations, where the police pay an underage kid to go to the gas station or a bar to try to buy smokes or alcohol. The businesses can lose their license to sell these things if they fail. It’s quite common too, when I was working at the local bar for 6 months they conducted 4 stings. On the bright side you get a bonus of around $100 if you pass.
Ketchup with hot sauce added to it is great on fries.
Weird that he brought up wrestling like we're the only ones that enjoy it. The British and German wrestling scenes are on par with ours
Exactly. Wrestling is huge in the UK and many other places. Here in Australia, most people at least know of it, so it’s well known and fairly popular.
In response to ID's for smokes or cigs in the US I've had first hand experience working as a cashier and have had workers from state organizations posing as customers specifically to check to see if you ask for their ID. If you don't ask these people they will typically come back and either warn you or revoke your license for selling those products
"Three grumpy blokes "🤣
Fun fact: The reason the side-effects list always sounds so crazy, is because if during the trial, anyone has any issues at all, regardless if they are caused by the product or not, they will be listed as a possible side effect.
Just to be clear, ~83% of Americans think professional wrestling is fixed. Why that percentage is so low...who knows? But the video makes it sound like most American's follow wrestling.
'The service is great and the food is in great portions'..sounds terrible!...ha
My Dad was shocked he was carded at 72 years old. Some stores are very strict and will ask everyone. Some places, like Walmart in California, if someone looks older than 45 then you don't have to ask. But at bars, EVERYONE needs ID otherwise the establishment can lose their license. It wasn't that bad 30 years ago. You could just bring a note from a parent for store purchases of cigarettes.
On the ID thing, here in Oklahoma at least, if the customer looks younger than 40, they will usually ask for your ID. I worked as a clerk at a convenience store, and that was our general rule. Now, if someone comes in, and you can tell that he or she is over 40, you sell them the beer or cigarettes. But if that person still looks fresh-faced, still full of hopes and dreams, yeah, they're getting carded.
@Rita Roork Hi there Rita! Greetings from Edmond! :)
Some stores it's programmed in the computer so it won't complete the sale unless there's an ID for cigarettes. Doesn't matter your age, I'm 57 and I get carded.
One of the last comments tho is right. European roads and towns are smaller due to them being hundreds of years old when there were no cars. And while newer towns and cities here in the US are big to accommodate transportation specifically, some of the USs oldest cities such as Boston and such still have those super small streets and narrow alleys.
Office Bloke Nance; the comment about the south only applies when you can hear banjo music. 😛
a lot of places in say Germany dont take cards I still think, say a none chain store eg cafe or restaurant. Thats the same in a lot of other countries to I believe - it was Europeans not just brits

If you put Ads At start and end of a show no one would see them t would be like a standard intermission putting then in-between segments of a show kind of forces the viewer to watch
Wow I think that video was a little harsh on Brits! Sorry about that 😓
It honestly depends if the person is an As*Hole or not if you get asked for ID.
Or if you just look really young for your age ;otherwise they won't bother.
T.I.P.S. To insure prompt service.
When you visit a different place you should savor and appreciate the differences not make fun of them. Don't travel if you want everything to be the same as home. 🙄
Waiters may not be paid that much and depend on tips and Americans now that.
On Average Brits actually have overall better dental health than America.
America is just more focused on appearance.
Being a former bar owner you can and will lose your liquor license if you sell to a minor . If you look under 40 years old we ID no exceptions..
The ID thing is because of American ideals of equality under the law. If you're going to ask a 21 year old for ID, then you have to ask EVERYONE, because the law is not supposed to target specific groups. This leaves out any discretion, meaning there is less of a chance of law violations, and it's also insane for obvious reasons, sometimes.
Also, if it's a store that you're known to, then you'll never get ID'ed. I go to the same gas station every morning for smokes and I know all the workers, so I never get carded.
That’s not why at all. It’s because the you can lose your liquor license or pay huge fines so it’s easier to ID most people regardless of how old they look. It has nothing to do with equality.
If they ran the ads after the show, no one would watch them lol
I live outside of Chicago. I also don't get the thing with people wearing gym outfits everywhere. Now as for boobs I have heard there are three big boobs in the UK that have a popular UA-cam channel. Sorry couldn't resist.

The fact that they believe everyone and everything else should be/live/act just like them or else they think it's "weird"...

For a 30 min show you will get only 22 min of actual show. The other 8 min are for adverts. This is standardized.
Some group did a study and found that channels like TBS and TVLand were speeding shows like Seinfeld up by up to 9% to fit more commercials in.
There are undercover agents that pop into shops to see if the employees are checking ID. If the clerk is under 18 they have to defer to an older employee to actually sell the cigarettes or alcohol. My daughter was 16 working at a deli when she deferred to an adult employee to complete a cigarette sale. The customer turned out to be an agent. Had she actually sold him the cigarettes, the shop would have been fined.

Daz is a northeast American with a British accent. I am convinced....that 10 years in Jersey changed him lol.
Plenty of Americans don't have perfect teeth. In fact, plenty of Americans are missing teeth. And I am aware that some European countries are almost cashless- Sweden for instance uses cards and cash apps almost exclusively so they definitely wouldn't find the widespread use of credit and debit cards at all weird, though I have never been anywhere that didn't accept cash so I really don't know what that one is all about.
In the States EVERYONE still takes cash.
The dude in the blue has too big of an ego.
They don't place the adverts for convenience to the viewer, they place them where they think it'll make you sit through them. If you just did it between shows or in huge blocks, people would just turn it off, or go do other stuff while they are running. The idea is for you to sit through them so you won't miss when the show comes back on. But it's all free programming, so if they don't pay for them with adverts, then you'd pay with a subscription, which is why Netflix doesn't have them.
And that's why I use my DVR! A small inconvenience for free programming. I think in the UK, there's a TV license one has to by for about $150-200 per year if your TV can receive over-the-air broadcasting. From what I have heard, they have people who in the US would be the equivalent to the lowest form of used car salesmen go and knock on doors trying to bully people with threats if they don't either buy a license or let them in the home to check out the house for illegal TV's hooked up to an antenna.
it said the oasis singer was 44 years old when he wanted to buy smokes, I looked up when he was born, that was 1967, so that means that was almost ten years ago. and i find it strange in Europe that three men of clearly different age groups will hang out.. LOL
