Yes, that bothered me. These kids obviously, knew nothing or didn't bother to learn anything about England and history. I love the English people. I would love to go to visit where my ancestors come from. Just walking the streets knowing that an ancestor walked there. Also, knowing that some of the people there are my cousins, is cool.

You forget how much OUR music influenced these British bands. From the Beatles, to the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, etc. Blues, Jazz, Rock and Roll. They have all said as much and our influence in music was felt everywhere. 🎸

Most Americans like myself do in fact identify rock/blues etc. as being our music. The truth is though, that music has no boundaries, and just because genres of music were invented here because of our unique history it doesn't mean other people can't come along and bring new spark and life into it. Truth is, the brits did it better than us. You're right though that we (Americans, more so blacks) gave them the foundation, but the British changed the game.

I've never been to England, but I would like to go someday. Unfortunately, most of my interactions with the English have been on the internet - in forums - and the people have seemed pretty hateful of Americans. So, I don't really think I'd be welcomed there.

I spend a lot of time on political Reddit forums. The impression I get from foreigners on those forums - usually Canadians, occasionally Brits, French, Germans, among others - is that the United States is a festering hellscape of endless suffering, populated by slaves, devil spawn, their demonic overlords, all reigning over an army of bloodthirsty lunatics hellbent on world conquest and indiscriminate slaughter. Any news about America doing something good (e.g. donating millions of vaccines to Taiwan) gets met with cynicism, mockery, or disbelief, while news of other countries doing bad inevitably elicits some variation of "at least they're not as bad as America." And more than a few Americans are eager to throw themselves under the shitter and enthusiastically agree with every point of criticism.
To be fair that is Millennium Park and Grant Park in downtown Chicago which is a major tourist attraction in the city. Now the sample size and area used in Millennium Park and Grant Park was pretty small but that has as good a chance as any of having people from all over the country without traveling all over.

But honestly, Americans don't really talk/care about English people that much. They don't know anything about England other than the monarchy, literature and various actors/singers. It feels weird to these guys because they think about America so much, but I don't know many Americans who have strong opinions about England. They just think of England as cute.

I grew up in a rural area, definitely no one knew a thing about UK. I moved to a large metro area and ended up with brit and irish friends/coworkers and now I know more about it than I do mexico or canada
I love The UK: I’ve visited 4 different times and did the usual tourist stuff. The nice thing was that we stayed in one place for several days and then took the the tube and train for further destinations. I felt the people outside of London were nice enough and helpful. Once we got lost in York and a old gentleman walked us all the way back to our hotel.
I am from Chicago, like many other great Cities the diversity is incredible. What a great place to meet wonderful people. I love England. My grandmother is from Manchester. I grew up on Benny Hill (I miss), Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce (the true Sherlock and Watson, although Benedict does a great job. I travel to Nottingham for my job 2 times a year. I love the scenery of the country. You guys do a great job
I'm from and still live in Chicago. Raised and live on the southside of town but I'm a Cubs fan. I did watch Benny Hill growing up in the 1970's. I didn't watch Monty Python but I sure knew about them. I also loved Doctor Who. Tom Baker was my favorite Doctor. I have never been to the U.K., but maybe one day I'll get there.
Glad I scooped up all the Benny Hill DVDs when they were available and affordable. People are now paying $250-600 for the complete works if you can find them. Hill was once moved to tears when touring the home of the Charlie Chaplin after his son Eugene Chaplin said his father watched Benny's videos in his later years and would watch over and over.

I would have just stopped interviewing that one dude the moment he said that the New England Patriots are the first thing he thinks of when he thinks of England.
I've only been to the UK once when I was a kid. We were there for almost a month and it only rained once. Everyone was calling it a "scorcher" but it was much cooler than usual for us, maybe 80. It's a beautiful country, most people were super nice, but the percentage of straight up rude people was much higher than anywhere else I've been.
I lived in England for 3 years as a teenager, and really enjoyed my time there. When I first arrived everyone could tell I was American because of my accent. If someone got upset with me, I'd occasionally get called a "bloody Yank!". It never had the effect they intended. That is NOT an insult to an American, and it always made me laugh. Kids quickly adopt accents, and by my second year in England my accent was just like my schoolmates and new people I met wouldn't believe I was American. I lived in a tiny village (pop. 300) in the Cotswolds, and commuted to school in Cheltenham. My dad worked there, attached to GCHQ. I'll tell you one thing I learned about the English (and probably Brits in general) that Americans generally don't know. In America we don't like snitches (grassers) but it doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to how the English feel about them. Grassers rank below thieves that also exhibit all seven deadly sins, and it is a visceral hate. Luckily for me I didn't learn that lesson by snitching on anyone, I just observed it in action. People who get a reputation as a grasser might as well change schools, because nobody will associate with them. And that was at a Public School (what Americans would call a private school). I'd imagine it would be even worse at a regular school.
An Americans response to being called a “yank” depends on what part of America they are from. In much of the country the response would just be confusion, in some parts it would be seen as a complement, but in a few it would be fightin’ words.
I'm of English ancestry and would love to visit. And the folks on the video were very wrong about English music. Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are two of my very favorite bands. Enough said.

While in the Army, stationed in Turkey, a buddy's father bought him a Jaguar XKE set-up to drive in the USA, we picked it up in London and driving around was quite an experience. As a passenger, my judgement as to when to pass another vehicle, was put to the test. Had a great time and we drove down to Southampton and he shipped the Jag on the last voyage of the Queen Mary(the one currently berthed in Long Beach) in 1967.
shit, as an American, England and Australia are about the only two other countries I'd fight and die to help protect, because I know they'd do the same for us.
I have friends in the UK that I have visited at least 3 times. I went to very few tourist sites but went to friends homes, their favorite shops and restaurants. My impressions: they’re more reserved (I’d say hi and they’d look at me like I’m weird), they’re helpful when asked but generally they are like us. Proud of their country and concerned about their children, etc. They’re supportive of America and still thankful to the US for our role in WWII.
Interestingly foot traffic in place also tends to follow road traffic. Here the saying is “keep to right” and the right side of the escalator is for those in a hurry while the left side is for standing.
And old white lady with a walking stick called my mother 'Nigga, Nigga, Nigga' when we were walking through Manchester. Apart from that the I really enjoyed site seeing, and i loved the historical buildings. The environment was really clean. The country side is really beautiful the pubs are great too 🥰
I actually found the group he interviewed to be quite sweet lol. They were polite, tried to be as open as they could even though they fully admitted they don't know much about England like....they weren't cringe at all. The tall girl with the blue shirt - I think she was just nervous lol. "She talks a lot" honestly saw it just as anxious rambling ~
Midwest here. I think of England as: that uncle you see a couple times a year. He is very proper, and serious. He's been building his retirement plan since he was 25. House like a museum... Your aunt asks, "you ever see pics of your uncle when he was young, in a rock band, long hair, leather pants and everything?" Uncle goes "yeah, lets not talk about those days." Australia, their son, came from money but is rebellious, wild, drinks, parties, piercings. You really wanna party with your cousin, Australia but afraid to at same time. Your uncle England is like, "don't encourage him." USA is somewhere in the middle but is like, "hey, we're all family."
My son's father's family is from England. When I first met them, I thought they were very cold, but after getting to know them I found that they weren't cold at all. They're just quieter about their affection for others. Also, I am totally a meat & potatoes girl & they made some amazing food! They're similar to Americans, we're just louder & more expressive about things IMO.
Let's me put it this way, this American has watched, so many Brittish series over and over again that i pronounce some words the British way, like aluminium. Also I've watched so many UK series that i pretty much understand nearly every single British slang term. Personally i love England and it's history, especially during the Napoleonic War era. My grandfather fought in wwii he loved the english said they were good soldiers but stopped for tea a bit too much.
It can get miserably hot in the UK in summer at times and there's generally no A/C!!! So, in London, for the least expensive halfway decent hotel room in summer you're paying 100 plus quid a night to sweat your balls off!!!

Then I flew up to Dublin(obviously I know its not part of the UK, but it does have similar weather patterns) and it was 18C or so. It was the most refreshing feeling getting there. I can't stand the extreme heat.
I love England and the English. There is so much about England that my life is entangled with intellectually. The overall history (The Royal Navy of the late 1700's and early 1800's specifically), the accent, the countryside, London, the Beatles, the Stones, and the rest of the "English Invasion" of the '60's. I could go on for quite a while, the beautiful women, the funny comedians, etc. etc. but I'll end up with our greatest ally and friend.

I am of Irish decent, my daughter lives in the UK and being born in the USA I love the English We will always be family. If they would have spoken to older people about music, they would have heard of Led Zeppelin, the greatest rock band of all time. along with many many bands from England. The British band music if intertwined with all the rock music I grew up with and still love today. Love across the pond!
My dad and grandma are Caribbean Brits and still have family there. I never been but I imagine it’s an even bougier NY lol. And they love tea. My God 😂
My father moved to the US from the UK in the 80's and hadn't gone back up until a few years ago when we went to visit his sick mother. He was so shocked to see what it has turned into and says he will never move back.
When I think of England I think of how i could move there and how i could “Americanize” my living situation. Such as adding central air, window screens, laundry room/closet, walk-in closets, back yard, grill pit, etc etc. Of course i think of crappy weather (I live in San Diego), bad customer service, bunch of history lessons and sites, ease of travel between countries, great public transit systems, no sales tax, and possibly a true melting pot of nationalities.
I just love the way the brits say Aa-lu-mini-um and Jag-u-ire. Also, you guys know how big America is, You could do this interview in 50 different states and get 50 different attitudes. I think all Americans have a fondness of brits because we share a language and a lot of culture. Actually that was us fighting ourselves - there were no 'Americans' we left because we had bigger fish to fry like India which was considered a more precious jewel than the USA - plus we still have our flag on yours in Hawaii and we sailed up the Potomac river and set fire to the White House which why its called the Whitehouse. Hi Blokes. When I visited the UK, we took the Victoria line to Hastings, my sister and I were amazed that everyone walks around In Elizabeth-in clothes for tourists. It was not the case at all, of all days to visit Hastings happened to be the 400th Anniversary of the Spanish Armada and they were going to like the coast in bonfires in celebration. One of the most amazing days of my life. I just wanted to share , Cheers 🎉
I studied abroad in London long ago and I really miss it. I want to see so much more of the whole country and isles. But then I'm very very British (all over) in heritage.
If I were to make a general statement about the British, “Keep Calm and Carry On” would have to be my favorite sentiment I get from most ppl from England. I’ve been to the UK a dozen times since 1981, and have found the ppl warm and friendly, with only an occasional (well-deserved) dig on American culture or politics. Americans do tend to be overly exuberant, but I think that has changed significantly since September, 2001. We haven’t quite wrapped our heads around the idea that, through the luck of geography, we haven’t had to deal with war and civil conflict to the degree that most of the rest of the world has. Despite our differences, the British-American relationship has grown into a bond that I hope neither side takes for granted.

I love England! I only got to go once when I was only 17 and I've been dying to go back. I saw The Phantom of the Opera and we got to take a train to Princess Diana's childhood home and there's so much history. Negative- it really freaked me out that the floors in your Churches are headstones. I was always taught it was disrespectful to walk in someone's grave, so I was very uncomfortable. Your driving is also scary.

Traveled to London in late May a few years back. Spent a lot of time in the city parks during a stretch of beautiful weather. The trees waged an absolute war on my sinuses. Otherwise lovely.

I think the most accurate description for Americas view of The UK is like that dad you didn't get along with growing up but you're like the best friends now. That's the American relationship with the UK. And our boys in uniform fight and die for the same freedom and often side by side.
I feel like he might have had a few more interesting responses if he asked a few more older people. Many people like me had gradparents who their parents were from England and adopted many of the British customs. My grandmother definitely enjoyed her cupa tea with a scone or something or other... she was definitely much more reserved/proper/polite in general. She also was insistant on making her home much more cozy as apposed to many Americains who go all out cold/modern decor (she hated those big bulky couches everyone gets). I havent been to the UK yet, but I always think of Cornation Street. My grandmother and uncle watched it for decades. Her place could fit right in to one of their sets. So much good music comes out of the UK too (historically).
I'm a Texan, born and raised. I would ❤ to visit the UK. It's on my bucket list! Probably one of the few places in the world I really want to visit. As someone who grew up skateboarding, I listened to classic rock instead of rap/hip-hop so I’ve got a much deeper appreciation for English Musicians compared to American Musicians honestly.
What I think about when I think of England is Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, Tea, Fine China, Fashion, that big ferris wheel thing, lots of rain, the tube, the English Channel.
I think the reaction to Big Ben is because it is always mentioned in songs and talking about England - and then you see it and in your own mind it was bigger -- I've heard UK interviews say the Statue of Liberty was a lot smaller than they thought.....pics make it look huge -- now it isn't small - but I can see where from movies and pictures it appears much larger than it is....that's all....
I lived in the UK (Oxford) for a bit. Negatives: The people are stuck up. The beer is flat af. The weather is garbage. Pros: The food is legit. 18 drinking age makes sense. The history & architecture.

We stopped in London on our way to Turkey for a NATO exercise in 1992, we stayed on the plane for security reasons and actually received hazardous duty pay cause the IRA was still "active"...4 hours then off to Germany.
All of the Brits that I've met in the States have that sharp edged New Yorker, don't mess with me vibe, only with an accent and better education. They also seem to know American movies and music a lot better than most Americans. To tell you the truth I love having conversations with them because they are quick with the put-down and with a bon mot, laugh a lot, and don't take shit too personally or out of context. I grew up in a rural area, definitely no one knew a thing about UK. I moved to a large metro area and ended up with brit and irish friends/coworkers and now I know more about it than I do mexico or canada
I believe for every country had the good and the bad, it’s all about how you were raised and represent oneself.
I love The UK: I’ve visited 4 different times and did the usual tourist stuff. The nice thing was that we stayed in one place for several days and then took the the tube and train for further destinations. I felt the people outside of London were nice enough and helpful. Once we got lost in York and a old gentleman walked us all the way back to our hotel.
I am from Chicago, like many other great Cities the diversity is incredible. What a great place to meet wonderful people. I love England. My grandmother is from Manchester. I grew up on Benny Hill (I miss), Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce (the true Sherlock and Watson, although Benedict does a great job. I travel to Nottingham for my job 2 times a year. I love the scenery of the country. You guys do a great job
I'm from and still live in Chicago. Raised and live on the southside of town but I'm a Cubs fan. I did watch Benny Hill growing up in the 1970's. I didn't watch Monty Python but I sure knew about them. I also loved Doctor Who. Tom Baker was my favorite Doctor. I have never been to the U.K., but maybe one day I'll get there.

Glad I scooped up all the Benny Hill DVDs when they were available and affordable. People are now paying $250-600 for the complete works if you can find them. Hill was once moved to tears when touring the home of the Charlie Chaplin after his son Eugene Chaplin said his father watched Benny's videos in his later years and would watch over and over.

I've only been to the UK once when I was a kid. We were there for almost a month and it only rained once. Everyone was calling it a "scorcher" but it was much cooler than usual for us, maybe 80. It's a beautiful country, most people were super nice, but the percentage of straight up rude people was much higher than anywhere else I've been.
I lived in England for 3 years as a teenager, and really enjoyed my time there. When I first arrived everyone could tell I was American because of my accent. If someone got upset with me, I'd occasionally get called a "bloody Yank!". It never had the effect they intended. That is NOT an insult to an American, and it always made me laugh. Kids quickly adopt accents, and by my second year in England my accent was just like my schoolmates and new people I met wouldn't believe I was American. I lived in a tiny village (pop. 300) in the Cotswolds, and commuted to school in Cheltenham. My dad worked there, attached to GCHQ.
I'll tell you one thing I learned about the English (and probably Brits in general) that Americans generally don't know. In America we don't like snitches (grassers) but it doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to how the English feel about them. Grassers rank below thieves that also exhibit all seven deadly sins, and it is a visceral hate. Luckily for me I didn't learn that lesson by snitching on anyone, I just observed it in action. People who get a reputation as a grasser might as well change schools, because nobody will associate with them. And that was at a Public School (what Americans would call a private school). I'd imagine it would be even worse at a regular school.

An Americans response to being called a “yank” depends on what part of America they are from. In much of the country the response would just be confusion, in some parts it would be seen as a complement, but in a few it would be fightin’ words.

While in the Army, stationed in Turkey, a buddy's father bought him a Jaguar XKE set-up to drive in the USA, we picked it up in London and driving around was quite an experience. As a passenger, my judgement as to when to pass another vehicle, was put to the test. Had a great time and we drove down to Southampton and he shipped the Jag on the last voyage of the Queen Mary(the one currently berthed in Long Beach) in 1967.

I have friends in the UK that I have visited at least 3 times. I went to very few tourist sites but went to friends homes, their favorite shops and restaurants. My impressions: they’re more reserved (I’d say hi and they’d look at me like I’m weird), they’re helpful when asked but generally they are like us. Proud of their country and concerned about their children, etc. They’re supportive of America and still thankful to the US for our role in WWII.
Interestingly foot traffic in place also tends to follow road traffic. Here the saying is “keep to right” and the right side of the escalator is for those in a hurry while the left side is for standing.
And old white lady with a walking stick called my mother 'Nigga, Nigga, Nigga' when we were walking through Manchester.
Apart from that the I really enjoyed site seeing, and i loved the historical buildings. The environment was really clean. The country side is really beautiful the pubs are great too 🥰
I actually found the group he interviewed to be quite sweet lol. They were polite, tried to be as open as they could even though they fully admitted they don't know much about England like....they weren't cringe at all. The tall girl with the blue shirt - I think she was just nervous lol. "She talks a lot" honestly saw it just as anxious rambling ~

My son's father's family is from England. When I first met them, I thought they were very cold, but after getting to know them I found that they weren't cold at all. They're just quieter about their affection for others. Also, I am totally a meat & potatoes girl & they made some amazing food! They're similar to Americans, we're just louder & more expressive about things IMO.
Let's me put it this way, this American has watched, so many Brittish series over and over again that i pronounce some words the British way, like aluminium.
Also I've watched so many UK series that i pretty much understand nearly every single British slang term.
Personally i love England and it's history, especially during the Napoleonic War era.

@@Jason-ib4fk How often does that happen? A couple of years ago, I traveled to Barca, it was around 35C every day. Then I flew up to Dublin(obviously I know its not part of the UK, but it does have similar weather patterns) and it was 18C or so. It was the most refreshing feeling getting there. I can't stand the extreme heat.
I love England and the English. There is so much about England that my life is entangled with intellectually. The overall history (The Royal Navy of the late 1700's and early 1800's specifically), the accent, the countryside, London, the Beatles, the Stones, and the rest of the "English Invasion" of the '60's. I could go on for quite a while, the beautiful women, the funny comedians, etc. etc. but I'll end up with our greatest ally and friend.

I am of Irish decent, my daughter lives in the UK and being born in the USA I love the English We will always be family. If they would have spoken to older people about music, they would have heard of Led Zeppelin, the greatest rock band of all time. along with many many bands from England. The British band music if intertwined with all the rock music I grew up with and still love today. Love across the pond!
My dad and grandma are Caribbean Brits and still have family there. I never been but I imagine it’s an even bougier NY lol. And they love tea. My God 😂
My father moved to the US from the UK in the 80's and hadn't gone back up until a few years ago when we went to visit his sick mother. He was so shocked to see what it has turned into and says he will never move back.

When I think of England I think of how i could move there and how i could “Americanize” my living situation. Such as adding central air, window screens, laundry room/closet, walk-in closets, back yard, grill pit, etc etc. Of course i think of crappy weather (I live in San Diego), bad customer service, bunch of history lessons and sites, ease of travel between countries, great public transit systems, no sales tax, and possibly a true melting pot of nationalities.

I just love the way the brits say Aa-lu-mini-um and Jag-u-ire. Also, you guys know how big America is, You could do this interview in 50 different states and get 50 different attitudes. I think all Americans have a fondness of brits because we share a language and a lot of culture. Actually that was us fighting ourselves - there were no 'Americans' we left because we had bigger fish to fry like India which was considered a more precious jewel than the USA - plus we still have our flag on yours in Hawaii and we sailed up the Potomac river and set fire to the White House which why its called the Whitehouse. Hi Blokes. When I visited the UK, we took the Victoria line to Hastings, my sister and I were amazed that everyone walks around In Elizabeth-in clothes for tourists. It was not the case at all, of all days to visit Hastings happened to be the 400th Anniversary of the Spanish Armada and they were going to like the coast in bonfires in celebration. One of the most amazing days of my life. I just wanted to share , Cheers 🎉

If I were to make a general statement about the British, “Keep Calm and Carry On” would have to be my favorite sentiment I get from most ppl from England. I’ve been to the UK a dozen times since 1981, and have found the ppl warm and friendly, with only an occasional (well-deserved) dig on American culture or politics. Americans do tend to be overly exuberant, but I think that has changed significantly since September, 2001. We haven’t quite wrapped our heads around the idea that, through the luck of geography, we haven’t had to deal with war and civil conflict to the degree that most of the rest of the world has.
Despite our differences, the British-American relationship has grown into a bond that I hope neither side takes for granted.

I love England! I only got to go once when I was only 17 and I've been dying to go back. I saw The Phantom of the Opera and we got to take a train to Princess Diana's childhood home and there's so much history.

Traveled to London in late May a few years back. Spent a lot of time in the city parks during a stretch of beautiful weather. The trees waged an absolute war on my sinuses. Otherwise lovely.
On cuisine in London, when I was there ~12 years ago, it was the best & most Indian restaurants outside India.

I think I was 11 or 12 when MTV started and I saw Downtown Judy Brown (English) and Terence Trent D'Arby (French) and I'm staring at these two Black people with a British and French accent - I was blown a-way! I think the most accurate description for Americas view of The UK is like that dad you didn't get along with growing up but you're like the best friends now. That's the American relationship with the UK. And our boys in uniform fight and die for the same freedom and often side by side.
I feel like he might have had a few more interesting responses if he asked a few more older people. Many people like me had gradparents who their parents were from England and adopted many of the British customs. My grandmother definitely enjoyed her cupa tea with a scone or something or other... she was definitely much more reserved/proper/polite in general. She also was insistant on making her home much more cozy as apposed to many Americains who go all out cold/modern decor (she hated those big bulky couches everyone gets).
I havent been to the UK yet, but I always think of Cornation Street. My grandmother and uncle watched it for decades. Her place could fit right in to one of their sets. So much good music comes out of the UK too (historically).
I'm a Texan, born and raised. I would ❤ to visit the UK. It's on my bucket list! Probably one of the few places in the world I really want to visit. Things over here are considered "old" if it's over 100 years. That's crap. To walk in places where so many have lived over time is a very interesting notion to me.

As someone who grew up skateboarding, I listened to classic rock instead of rap/hip-hop so I’ve got a much deeper appreciation for English Musicians compared to American Musicians honestly.
What I think about when I think of England is Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, Tea, Fine China, Fashion, that big ferris wheel thing, lots of rain, the tube, the English Channel.
I think the reaction to Big Ben is because it is always mentioned in songs and talking about England - and then you see it and in your own mind it was bigger -- I've heard UK interviews say the Statue of Liberty was a lot smaller than they thought.....pics make it look huge -- now it isn't small - but I can see where from movies and pictures it appears much larger than it is....that's all....

Negatives: The people are stuck up. The beer is flat af. The weather is garbage.

We stopped in London on our way to Turkey for a NATO exercise in 1992, we stayed on the plane for security reasons and actually received hazardous duty pay cause the IRA was still "active"...4 hours then off to Germany.

All of the Brits that I've met in the States have that sharp edged New Yorker, don't mess with me vibe, only with an accent and better education. They also seem to know American movies and music a lot better than most Americans. To tell you the truth I love having conversations with them because they are quick with the put-down and with a bon mot, laugh a lot, and don't take shit too personally or out of context. Also they are less full of shit than a lot of Americans. Bullshitting- The American past time.
Only problem I had in England was that I couldn't find ranch dressing anywhere.
