- philbestmusic.com/ Pianoteq have introduced felted versions of their pianos. These beautiful, atmospheric pianos are incredibly expressive and playable, with all kinds of rich, complex colours possible. To demonstrate this, Phil improvises, exploring the range of sonorities, on the C. Bechstein DG Felt.
Lovely playing. The felt piano sound was a reason I'd still reach for sampled pianos. This is huge.
Thanks! I know! These are so expressive. I'm really looking forward to using them in my projects.
Phil you sound great.
Thanks for showing us how wonderful Pianoteq is .
My pleasure! Thanks!
Back in the mid 70s I had a Yamaha U1D upright that had a felt bar built in. I used it often, when it was just me and the piano. I think the fact that it "de-edges" the piano sound without muffling it too much is the "intimacy" factor. It's still a piano, and it isn;t mumbling. More like whispering.
Thank you pianoteq, we asked and you delivered.
Every time I arrive at my studio lately, I check to see if a new video of you is online.
It's just nice to start my studio day with beautiful piano music and to be inspired a little too. Keep it up!
That's so nice of you to say... It inspires me to produce more! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Phil for this video demonstration of the new Felt feature in Pianoteq 7.4... This is certainly a great inclusion that was missing and the fact that it is a free update is really great, Bravo Modartt for keep improving and adding new features to this amazing virtual piano. Your improvisations are always exquisite... Kind regards and many blessings, Max
Thanks Max!
Thanks Phil for the review and thanks Pianoteq for keeping improving!
:-)
Ooooh. Lovely additions!
:-)
Incredibly played. Just lovely
Thank you so much!
Felt is Butteryy..sounds sooo good.
I think so too! Very useful!
I adore your playing. Beautiful.
Thanks so much!
Just lovely
Thank you!
Gorgeous.
Thanks!
Thanks Phil! Regards from Brazil.
My pleasure!
Majestic 👏🏻
Thanks!
Informative presentation and beautiful piano playing......Greetings from Memphis, Tennessee.
Thanks very much!
First let me say, I'm a big fan of Pianoteq; I play it - AND your demos, Phil. :) You took me to school today. I've played piano for almost five decades and studied classically in college for a couple of years. Obviously NOT a piano major. Until today, I had never heard of a "celeste" pedal. Wiki tells me it's an upright piano thing, which I haven't really played much, particularly nice ones. But wow, I should know that! And now I do. Thanks. Cheers, Cliff
Thanks! Honestly, I'd come across a felt pedal but I also didn't know the term celeste pedal!
Lovely
Glad you like...
Great!
Thanks!
These didn't sound like felt pianos to me (what little I know) until I created an EQ that drops out quite a bit of very high end and also puts a cut at around 920 hz. Now it sounds great! (I am comparing it in part to the felt piano preset in Scaler 2 which I think sounds like a typical felt piano preset.)
Very good 😍 Can you please also make a video showing the best settings and best pianos for the felt ones? When I play it on my own it sounds really good but when I record it, it sounds like too quiet and rush somehow because I don’t know which settings are the best
Thanks! Maybe you need to add some subtle dynamics processing to get the recorded result levels up... I use Waves L3 and C6
Thank you Phil for giving us a beautiful sample of this new preset! I've been waiting for felted pianos for quite awhile as I am not great at tinkering with all of the settings/controls available on Pianoteq to create the sound on my own. Do the felted pianos sound as though some work was done under the hood to create the sound or is it purely a matter of adjusting the settings on the piano models that creates the felted sound? Thank you again and as always, beautifully played.
Thanks very much! I'm not sure. You'd have to ask the Pianoteq guys. I had tried to get that felt sound myself through tweaking but always ended up with something muffled and lifeless. These are so beautiful.
@@PhilBestMusic You are welcome and thank you for your thoughts. One more question if I may, have you ever played Native Instrument's Noire piano? I didn't see anything in your playlists about it but would love to get your thoughts and especially your comparison to the new Pianoteq Felt presets. Noire has been my go to for the felt sound but feel it is quite different from the Pianoteq sound. Your ear is so much better than mine that your thoughts would be very valuable. All the best!
I'm afraid I haven't tried NI's Noire - I will if I eventually upgrade Komplete from v12 to v13. I expect it's lovely. But personally there's an expressive response with physical modelled pianos that I prefer to sampled instruments, even though they are often really gorgeous sounds.
Very nice playing and beautiful instrument!! (Now subscribed.) Best Regards. 🙂
Thank you!
Beautiful sound and playing. Thank you. May I ask: are you using a retrofit MIDI system connected to a real piano?
Thank you! No it's a Roland HP605.
@@PhilBestMusic Wow! I will check it out! Thank you again!
My pleasure!
Very nice ! What midi piano are you using ? Its look like a real one !
Thanks! It's a Roland HP605.
👍
0:19 Elephant Arnold style? Love to learn more!

Thanks for your vids, Phil. Really appreciate them, but not the non-automatic ads. I highly prefer ads that stop by themselves and allow for an automatic return to your vid.
Thanks very much! I'm not sure about non-automatic ads. I'll look into it!
Thanks Phil. Great vids!
Thanks!
I does sound nice but can't really be used in rock of country music as edgy is needed mostly. I've played a lot of very different piano's, acoustic, old one's, and very, very expensive new and I like their sound as they are. I know the felty sound will be needed but I don't care too much for it yet, I am self taught and read and write and every time I visit a piano store I am asked after playing who my teacher is, was, the sales person is quite surprised when I state I taught my self, they state I play as though I attended Julliard, the spelling may be off a bit. I do play five instruments well and no I can not give a demo as I have no way to record my self, video recorders are quit expensive for something worth having. The gentleman in the video plays very well, thank you for that.
t
Wonderful. which 2 instruments do you suggest for pianoteq stage?
Thank you! My choice would probably be Steinway D and Bechstein but it's a very subjective thing.
Model B is also superb & stnwy D is great.
Will this work with ALL the Pianos of Pianoteq or just the Bechstein??
Felt presets are on all the pianos.
Sounds like well needled hammers. Shame you can't adjust the hardness of the felt a little.
Yes, it's similar.
suoni come un Dio , bravissimo !
Grazie mille!
