That's the thing, it depends on "whom's" perspective you speak of.
The world was fine until the baddie came along... But they baddies claim they were here for aeons before you, and want to 'erase' the world to reset it.
      Who is right or wrong?

@@dra6o0n I say it's more a matter of memory made false through nostalgia and relativism. The Ascians claim there was no conflict before the world was sundered, and yet Venat and Azem were needed as warriors. The Ancients claimed life before the Finals Days were free of sorrow and worry, when we witnessed that it wasn't absolutely perfect. The grass is always greener on the other side, or in this case, was always greener yesterday.

I don't think I've been as emotionally invested in a narrative as I am in FFXIV. Seeing all these storybeats in a montage with the context makes me remember so many moments when I cried tears of joy and of sorrow. Hearing the Endwalker trailer starting and Emet narrating genuinely got me to tear up all over again. It's really something special.

The best dang story Final Fantasy has ever told.
Some of the best antagonists gaming has ever given us.
And absolutely the most consistent quality of antagonists in most any media.
    And some absolutely brilliant writing.
"No more shall man have wings to bear him to paradise. Henceforth.....he shall walk."
The dude with all the swords you liked has a fantastic line as well. When confronted with all the horrors he has wrought:
"If my motives met with your approval, would you no longer resent the outcome? Duty...honor...morality...all constructs of convenience when put to proof. Ask any creature of this star (world) and those above for answers, and they will tell you what suits their fancy. And they would be right to do so. What meaning there is to be found in the petty vicissitudes of your existence must be gleaned by you and you alone."
To get sucked in...you really just have to dive into the game itself. What can be said or shown without giving you spoilers?
I will say this, going back to the A Realm Reborn trailer, the lyrics of that song that plays takes on a completely new meaning in the final expansion. It's an AMAZING story. People are frequently moved to tears while streaming it (men and women both). You'll fall in love with both the heroes and the villains. But be prepared that it won't be nonstop highs. The story really is a novel. It takes time to meet all the chief characters, learn about what makes them tick, and slowly peel back the threats you'll face together with them. And oh boy do they all grow from who they are when you meet them to who they are by the end.
To quote the game itself... "Oh come now, it's been a gripping tale. Unbreakable bonds and noble sacrifice, sprinkled with moments of levity to counterbalance the pathos. It's got it all!"

Your comment of the Endwalker trailer feeling like the "final showdown, 3rd film in the trilogy, really bringing it home" vibe is spot-on. That's exactly what the entire Endwalker expansion was - giving us the most satisfying conclusion to an ongoing story I've personally ever seen. It truly feels like the final film of the trilogy or the final season of a long-running show.
Going into it, we legitimately had no idea what to expect. The tidbit at the very end of that trailer is literally Square Enix smugly telling us "yeah we're not holding back, some of your favorite characters are prolly gonna die."
Great game, great story, I beg you to play it. I treat it much more like watching a show than like playing a video game, myself. It's story-driven enough that you can get away with that.

That's one thing that Final Fantasy loves to do. They do the classic light vs dark, but rarely is light pure good and dark pure evil. They both dip a little into the other side and it cleverly changes it from being white and black to shades of grey, where the villains are understandable and you can feel for them.

Referring to Zodiark and Hydaleyn as the Eldest of the Primals was a BIG drop for people in the game when the Shadowbringers trailer came out. As beforehand they were thought of as Gods that had existed since the creation of the world.
Basically a Primal is a 'False God' they have immense power but they are not truly a god in the same manner most people think of what a god is. A Primal is created through a summoning ritual fueled by the faith and prayer of devotees and immense amounts of Aether(Source of Magic basically) and Crystals. Primals encountered in the game usually try to forcibly convert anyone they can into worshipping them through Tempering, which is basically magical brainwashing to put it simply.
FF14 is a great tale and an epic journey.

FFXIV is an amazing game, and one that you could both play together if you're interested some day! My sister got me and my mom into playing with her 2 years ago, and we've played through the entire story together, and now we've roped in my dad as well (both parents are in their 60's, which tells you how accessible this game is to all different kinds of people), and he and my mom play together in their spare time (my mom likes tanking and my dad just started learning healing, flipping gender stereotypes in the game on their head). There is hundreds of hours of content to experience from a story that has been ongoing for 10 years now, plus countless more of side activities (treasure hunting, player-versus-player battles, casino games, racing, obstacle courses, gathering and crafting... to name a few). Plus it's updated with new story and content (along with fixes and tweaks to existing content) a few times a year, and the developers are very communicative and in-touch with the community of fans. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Honestly they're laid out perfectly for react content too.

Final Fantasy XIV put a LOT of effort to make you dip in his story and mythology. Every element are very coherent with this idea and you can feel (even if you dont play the game) that developper put a lot of love in this game to make you feel like your own journey.
If you decide to play it someday you'll experiment a very good story that make you feel a lot of emotion, challenge, implication in general. The story main quest is the n°1 reason that game is so popular nowaday (I played this game 1650 days for exemple and I still love it).

The story of FFXIV really pleasantly surprised me, that of FFXI seemed excellent to me and FFXIV equals it. In Endwalker the cycle that had been built since A Realm Reborn has ended on an excellent note.
I think they have the next cycle well prepared and that it will not disappoint. They really impress me how they have managed to tell a great story without pulling things out of their sleeves or avoiding retcons in the vast majority of cases.
As for the First is an alternative world, due to certain events the world was fragmented. The main fragment is The source, where the entire game takes place until Shadowbringer, where one of the 13 (I think it was 13) fragments is traveled to The First. For various reasons some fragments were destroyed and The First is on its way to be destroyed as well. Unless the protagonist avoids it.
There are 6 other shards and some continents of the Source to visit after Endwalker, so they have content for another entire story cycle.

FFXIV is my main game right now and has been for a while now. I'd love for you both to get into the game and play through it! I know it's a deep game and takes quite a while to actually get through it.
So the cinematics work a lot better when you're actually playing through the game then you get to that point where the cinematic was released. Makes it so so much better. And Bethany saying she wants more of the story, all I can say is the brunt of the FFXIV experience is it's story. The only way to really get that is to play it or maybe watch some playthrough videos or something.
When the Shadowbringers portion was over, and the Close the Distance from Endwalker started, I got chills, goosebumps, and all emotional! If anyone does play through it, people do say the base ARR content can be a slog to get through.

If you do get into it, it is a long story that took 10 years to complete, although the first Final Fantasy XIV (1.0) story is gone but you can start at A Realm Reborn (2.0) then going through Heavenward (3.0) Stormblood (4.0) Shadowbringers (5.0) and Endwalker (6.0) the final Arc of the Zodiark and Hydaelyn story, and they are already started the next 10 year story from 6.1 but will say Shadowbringers and Endwalker are the best expansions they brought out.

I still can't believe it took me so long to try FF14 all the while being unhappy with WoW. Shadowbringers and Endwalker are both S-tier video game experiences filled with memorable protagonists and antagonists and a story that has made grown men cry.
Trying to explain the story is near impossible as it is 100s of hours of gameplay to get though it all. They do exist but breakdown videos are going to be well over an hour. It might be fun to watch a video on job limit breaks or a fun job/class guide called "Basically, which job to play SHADOWBRINGERS" to see more though.

It's kinda sad that quite a bit of the context and story queues were lost since it requires knowledge of the games story.
Which hopefully you get a chance to play to completion since it'll give you a chance to see the full story and get connected to the characters or world. Giving more weight to the events shown in the trailer.
For example. At the end of the shadowbringers trailer when it revealed that hydaelyn and zodiark were primals, this was quite the revelation since primals are a major antagonist to the warrior of light being creations of oppressed peoples in the form of their gods. These primals would then do what ever they were summoned for (mostly freeing people from oppression through violence or punishing people for slights) and essentially enslave the minds of anyone who got in their way. So this makes hydaelyn who has been leading the player up to this point seem more untrustworthy.
(For anyone who is going to argue with me, this is mostly opinion, (except the explanation of primals) so please don't argue with me, however if I am wrong feel free to correct me)

It's difficult to get context from these videos because there's just SO much story. For example, the reveal (long suspected by the fandom) that Zodiark and Hydaelyn were primals was a really big deal, if you know the story. Seeing Y'shtola getting cut in half by Zenos in the Stormblood trailer and not knowing if she was getting killed off, and pretty much EVERYTHING in Endwalker's trailer, after year and years of the story building towards it.
The launch trailers are mostly made for fans of the series, I think. While the cinematic trailers are made for both fans, and to pique the interest of people unfamiliar with the series to draw it in by rule of cool.
Zenos carried around multiple blades because he's SO strong that the swords just don't last. His strikes are so powerful that the swords break all the time, so he carries around multiple replacement blades that he can attach to his hilt and keep fighting when the first blade breaks.

So, the important bit to understand is that Endwalker really does wrap up essentially all of the story that started with A Realm Reborn. You can think of it as the final book in an epic series like Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time. Additionally Square Enix has only gotten better at telling their story over the years, so while A Realm Reborn definitely has a few places that hit pretty hard emotionally, by the time you get to Endwalker it's on a whole new level. While a game like World of Warcraft can fairly accurately be called a Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game, in many ways FFXIV is better though of as a Role Playing Game that also happens to be Massively Multiplayer. WoW and most other MMOs start from the point of designing game systems, and then coming up with a story to justify your character and others being there and doing those things. FFXIV on the other hand is first and foremost a narrative driven game. The story is created, and then your character and others are placed into it. Ultimately this means that while a game like WoW is best thought of in terms of the gaming elements that comprise it (things like Dungeons, Raids, PvP, the talent and skill system), FFXIV is best considered from the standpoint of the story it tells. The game systems are there and they are fun, but the story is really the glue that holds the whole thing together and without it it's unlikely anyone would bother playing FFXIV.
A Realm Reborn was essentially a rewrite of the original game, and at the time Square Enix wasn't even sure if the game would survive, so it was kind of rushed writing wise. The story is OK, but execution is only so so, and it has a few plot holes or things that later get retconned away. Pacing wise it's alright, but it's the introduction to the world and characters so it's mostly a lot of short stand alone pieces about various characters and places and how they all fit together. It's a fairly solid base to build from, but nothing ground breaking.
Heavensward was the first expansion and I think the point at which Square was confident the game wasn't just going to die so they put more work into the story and world building and it definitely shows. Heavensward is considered by most people to be one of the best expansions and has an amazing story. It introduces many characters that even today are still fan favorites, and has some very moving moments in it.
Stormblood was Squares attempt to dial up their narrative to the next level, but sadly it kind of backfired. The story is OK, a lot of important events happen and it's essentially the midpoint of the story. Unfortunately it suffers from Square not quite getting the balance between narrative and gameplay right, with many of the quests and cutscenes feeling like they drag out longer than they should. There are few if any really moving moments emotionally. It's a very important expansion to set the stage for later expansions, but on its own isn't terribly fulfilling. It's a bit of a slog, but worth it mostly to get to the following expansions.
Shadowbringer is really the first part of the two part culmination of the story. It's got a lot of very emotional points, and the plot is full of lots of interesting twists and turns. Pacing wise it's pretty much perfect with only a few parts that get a little bogged down here and there. There's really hardly anything negative to say about this expansion, it's Square at the top of their game, and it's such an amazing feat of story telling via the medium of games.
Finally we come back to Endwalker, which gathers up nearly every thread of the previous four parts and ties them all off in a truly spectacular and moving experience. While there were many mysteries slowly teased out and revealed over the course of the previous expansions, this one ties them all together and answers nearly every question that was still left. By the time you reach the end you understand the entire plot, everything that happened, and how it all fit together. From this point on, Square is free to start a brand new great arc for your character, and they've only just begun to tease out what the new story arc is going to be.
Lastly I just want to say, that much like Marvel, the writers of FFXIV are at their best when writing the villains. Nearly every one of them is a complex character with understandable if not exactly agreeable motivations for what they do. To paraphrase a bit "everyone is the hero in their own story", and that applies to the villains in FFXIV as well. From their perspective they're doing the right thing, either out of ignorance or desperation, but rarely out of pure malice. It makes for some very compelling story as these aren't simple mustache twirling villains that you can dismiss as "the bad guys". There are even several points where you question if your character is actually doing the right thing, or if your making things worse. It's going to be very interesting to see where the writers taking things from here, because after the events of Endwalker it's almost a blank slate story wise. They seem to have picked up one of the very minor loose threads that wasn't addressed yet and are seeing where that goes, but it's unclear what they're going to do with that yet.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames If you do decide to play, I'd say you should keep two things in mind.
First, the story is the main point of the game and as such you shouldn't rush through it. You have the option for example to skip cutscenes and that's pretty much always a mistake, take your time and enjoy it. That said, while there are many interesting and even in a few cases hilarious side quests you can do (most famously the Hildebrand side quests), your time is probably best spent ignoring the side quests at first and just playing the main story quest (the main story quests are marked with special quest markers that look a bit like a gold fireball). Doing that, your job specific quests, and the few required side quests will get you more than enough XP to reach max level and should keep you always ahead of the required level to progress the story.
Secondly, as youtubers, you will almost certainly want to at a minimum setup to record your play sessions. Watching people react to the heavy hitting points in the FFXIV story, or sometimes just die to funny mechanics in some of the dungeons is some very popular content on youtube. For a sample of such content you can check out "LuLu's FFXIV Stream Highlights" on The Fashionista channel.
Finally, if you do decide to play and you eventually get to the point in the story where you need to run a dungeon (typically around level 12 to 15 if I recall), it might be a good idea to check out JoCat's "A Crap Guide to FFXIV" series. There's three videos in the series (one for tanks, healers, and DPS), and all three are packed with useful info. Honestly even if you don't decide to play it might be worth watching them, they're hilarious even if you know almost nothing about FFXIV, and doubly so if you actually do.

Yeah, that's the thing about the trailers both Cinematic and Launch when it comes to FFXIV, they definitely require context to understand (sans Stormblood's cinematic) otherwise it's just "Oh, that looks cool." A Realm Reborn doesn't suffer this because it's the relaunch of the series even with the inclusion of "End of an Era" because the storytelling was so well done and obvious to newcomers. 1.0 gives some context but they do a really good job of having it separated just enough to not have needed to play it in the past and of course they bring you up to speed on all of the important things if you actually do play ARR.

    • @Juskaey
      @Juskaey 2 роки тому

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It honestly depends on the person! Anyone that wants to just blast through it and skips everything? Definitely a grind. Want to know the story? Take your time, read the dialogue, don't worry about getting to end game, it's not going anywhere.
The devs have gone back and cut out a lot of unimportant things and while it's not perfect, the pacing is still way better than it used to be. Many of the complaints came from the quests between end of ARR leading up to Heavensward which has been heavily streamlined.

hi there in this vid you mention wanting to check out final fantasy 7 theres a movie called final fantasy 7 children of the advent which has in its bonus features a full story thing similar to the devil may cry story vids you did i would highly suggest watching that and then watching advent children and then the final fantasy 7 crisis core game which hands down has my faveiot seferoth fight scene ever (the ending to crisis core is a real tear jerker) and then finally could we see you guys play the final fantasy 7 remake. The reason i suggest watching these in this order is that the final fantasy remake is a remake but at the same time.....not a remake youll see what i mean when you get round to playing it. as always really enjoying the channel

Shadowbringers is definitely the best in the Hydyaelyn/Zodiark storyline -- in my opinion, anyway. That expansion just takes all the emotion you've experienced up to that point and increases it ten-fold -- it was amazing!

for more things to react to in order to get more interested, maybe try reacting to some more of the promotional videos? there's a warrior training one that's pretty cute for shadowbringers with tom holland in it (who apparently actually plays the game!), a few free trial commercials with amazing cosplayers in it, some anime style videos, the music video for sia's fly me to the moon cover for endwalker, etc.
for story specifically.... maybe check out Bellular Gaming. he's done a lot of reviews on ffxiv broken up by expansions, look for his thoughts on A Realm Reborn, that's the beginning of the story. you could also try checking out Mad Because Small by Cider Spider, though that's a series of joke videos so it's not going to go in depth about the canon story, you mostly just get hints about the story through some of the jokes.
a really popular 3 part video series i'd also recommend (but is really long) is NoClip's FFXIV Documentary

16:05 without spoiling anything really, the game always reminds the player that
"Redemption isn't beyond anyone, that hope is everlasting"
I think this comes from the fact that 1.0 was a travesty, an absolute dumpster fire for lack of better terminology. Regardless, they have redeemed themselves, many times over and they never lost the hope to go on - in large thanks to the current lead developer Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P).
It's definitely worth looking into more, I'm sure you'd both love the story.

Hey guys, it's me again, Edwin. I want to recommend another UA-camr by the name of "Skipx". I found (in my opinion) the best summary of Final Fantasy 14 done by this guy. Here's the link to it ua-cam.com/video/nkJCFz-hGgc/v-deo.html . I recommend doing a reaction to it in short 15-30 minutes, that way you guys have a good few video uploads. It's an hour and thirty-four minutes long. It's really good. (imo) It doesn't no include the current expansion but I think it'll quench your thirst. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of details (context about characters and situations happening) you'll want to know about it as you watch this. This is really a close to a quick summary of the story up to the end of 'Shadow Bringers'. There will be a lot of moments in the video you'll recognize from the trailers you've seen in the past.

Kinda hard to understand anything without the context sadly^^. Endwalker finishes the story that was told since 2013 when the game relaunched as ARR. And its quite a ride. Its an MMORPG but with heavy and main focus on story and the story itself is very well told, not like other games in this genre (looks at World of Pepegacraft)

hi loved the reaction and im curious to know of what would you think of Dissidia Final Fantasy game trailer. since its really one of my favorite games of final fantasy. For those that don't know this game in particular is something like isekai in anime, the heroes and villains that appear in this game are from the diferent final fantasy "worlds" for example cloud and sephiroth are from final fantasy seven and are both summons by to opposing gods from a different world along others from diferente Final Fantasy to fight the opposing gods champions to determine a victor for the gods since they are Botha on equal terms of strength they decided to fight this way. and much more. In short would love it if you could react to his game trailer and not sure if you could play it on ps4 nor xbox. unless you have a old psp wich is my case.

You’re asking a lot of story to be wrapped up in a small video which is tough. However, if you did it by series, Comicstorian has a great series that sums up the story broken up by each expansion. They’re about 15 minutes each, but other than watching a 2 hour story summary, it might be the best way to do it.

I don't want to be mean , but as I alluded to you in the cinematic trailers comment section , these trailers are not really meant for you as a random person off the street per say , they are not intended to be like movie trailer coming to a theater near you or even a preview of a streaming service show , they are meant for fans and players looking forward to next expansion looking to get a taste of what's to come and general plot beats .
If it seems rather incomprehensible to you, I would suspect it would be , between each of these expansions is about five patches with several hours of story spread out over the course of about a year or so , that further the story and lead to the next expansion, and this how FFXIV has narratively and developmentally progressed.
You just went over about 4 or 5 years of story content , so no you probably won't get it or understand anything , be like skipping large sections of a long running tv show , you can't understand why characters are in certain situations or why they are reacting to certain people like they completely hate their guts .
If you really want to understand FFXIV , you really need to play the game .

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
      @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames  2 роки тому

Yup. We remember that from the cinematics. And these did a better job of pulling in the uninitiated as it showed some gameplay so we are still glad to have checked them out. But this is a game we will just have to play to understand 🙂

It's really hard to like put the story of FFXIV into a trailer because it's so epic. Like saying Lord of the Rings is about a group of adventurers walking to a mountain. Not wrong, but still so wrong. I think it's really ironic that World of Warcraft cinematics do such a better job telling a story than FFXIV ones do, when the game World of Warcraft is centered around the world and exploration, wehreas FFXIV trailers show you this pretty world to explore, but the game itself is a living breathing story.

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames

Guess That’s why final fantasy 14 doesn’t do story cinematic trailers because they just put it all in game versus WoW 🤔
