It's funny, I tried these exact same guitars back to back recently (pink first) and the pickups in the 24-08 are just so much better. Much hotter and brighter when distorted.
Interesting, I am thinking of getting the 2408 or the 24 custom which means better to try them out. I just checked the specs and apparently suppose to have the same pickups
A lot of people use the original 24 but if I had to buy one of these guitars, I'd rather buy the 20-08 reason being you have more versatility in the pickup selections. But both are overall great guitars definitely a must have in your collection!
Sounds great! Are these the factory 9 gauge strings or you changed them? Also whats the tonality of the regular Custom 24 vs 24-08. Is 24-08 capable of the same tonality as the 24 but with some extra options?
These are the very two guitars that I have been trying to decide between for months! I know I DEFINITELY want a PRS SE Custom.. but I don't know if I want the 24 or the 24-08. I cannot for the life of me make up my mind! ANY advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Great demo and excellent playing! Did you get to try a drop D tuning? I was wondering if this would detune the other strings with this floating bridge?
Interesting that the SE range has become the bread and butter part of PRS's business now. These tickle my fancy, but not in those colours unfortunately.
I just got my custom 24-08 a couple days ago and it's perfect. You're a beginner so you can't go wrong either way and both guitars are WAY better than beginner quality. I personally love the extra two tones on the 24-08 (one pickup full humbucker and one split coil) but you still can't go wrong. Just go for what looks nicest to you and enjoy the quality. I almost want to slap you cause this guitar is too good for beginners
@@dizzy7454 hahah thank you ! I bought the custom 24 and I’m very happy with it ,as u said I couldn’t go wrong because i have no experience in guitars 😂 and because of the look of the guitar I want to pick it up whenever I can so I keep on practicing more
I built my main axe. It kind of looks like a hardtail Strat. I also use a hardtail Music Man Silhouette. I do like the PRS CE24 models though. They have a broader tonal spectrum in my opinion.
@@wlliamson53 Yes, put the bar in first and tighten only as much as you need. It probably won’t be more than a quarter turn and shouldn’t take much force.
Not a great example of tone if you detest Stevie Vai. These guitars are so much more that that, and to be honest I prefer the sound of the 24, as less shrill. But that may just be because of the sound bite selection. .
I change the pics as fast as Hell,,they to Muddy,,I put in a Custom custom in the bridge, and a Transision in the Neck,,miles better,,but playability is awsome

I'm probably being a bit harsh (I know, free pun 😝) as a sub £1000 guitar they are very good .. Also I use the independent volumes on each pick up a lot with 50's wiring and never understand why you have to be lumped with one volume for each, can't have one turned up and other backed off which lends for loads tonal textures .. I know prs have models with independent volumes for each .. any way .. Good channel 👍

@@hollywoodactress I'm not sure where you saw that, but the 24-08 has the TCI pickups and the custom 24 has the standard PRS 85/15 pickups.
@@ClifffSpeed thanks for the info. I must have misread what I saw on main PRS site on these new SE model Custom 24 and 24-08, I will double check 👍
@@ClifffSpeed actually they are the 85/15 S. Not sure all the spec differences at the moment but about to do some research 😁
Too bad there are only two color options

The intro jam is very Steve Vai, I love it! Nice to hear a different kind of demo. Lovely sounding guitar and the colours are cool
I was thinking a slightly shreddier Porcupine Tree.
And the crowd to chant: “Ri...chard! Ri...chard!” 👏🏻🙌🏻
Like the funky groove playing
Not sure if there is an award for guitar reviews but it shall go to Mr Richard Barrett 👏🏆
The best demo of these guitars in my opinion! I'm sold on the 24-08. May I ask what the signal chain was? The sounds were great.
Im hearing Ala Steve Vai style. Wonderful playing, showcases this guitar really well 👍🏻
Great guitar playing! I hear some Joe Satriani in those licks on the first track!
It's the Lydian. Check our Robbie Calvo's this month's column for more tasty Lydian stuff.
You're correct - as said its Lydian mode, and the track it screams out that it's inspired by (IMO) is Flying In A Blue Dream.

PRS Neon tones ! 🎸
nice ! Thank you !

I use drop all the time on mine. No problems. The floater stays in tune well

Agreed
They do make a tobacco sunburst type finish on these. Wish they'd add a transparent amber & transparent cherry.
@@jst601 I've since bought three, including the green one! Love them!

I might be showing my age here but I heard a bit of George Lynch in that first solo.

can the SU 24 do dive bombs?
It’s a really good system and easy to get carried away - it didn’t give me any trouble on the day!
@@richardbarrettguitar1228 should you get it set up to do that first?
it sounds great, but I still believe that it's more much important the hands which play than the guitar brand.
That should end some claims about the se customs lacking in the tone and versatility department. Puts those to bed.
and also, how do you get your vibrato bar to stay in place?
These are ‘plug in’ arms with an adjustable tension, but for threaded arms, I’ve had success with a bit of PTFE/plumber’s tape around the thread. 👍🏻

Better try a guitar with a clean sound
The prs se need to be upgraded with good pickups and jumbo frets...really, and then it's not the same guitar👍
Just hate the neck on these models. So thin feels like a plank of plywood.
