  • A fair weather day was too good to miss. We start early and motor quickly to Barrenjoey at the entrance to Broken Bay. From there we sail with a gentle Nor’Easter down the coast to Sydney Harbour and into Little Manly to end our trip.

    Congrats, great trip for a little boat. I actually built your boat in 2012 in Cooloola Cove. It was a different colour when I sold ot to some bloke down Morton Bay way but can be identified by the interior fitout, mast turming blocks etc. Keep it up and keep the mast pointing to the sky it's a long swim.

    Always good to sail with Josh and Kingfisher/Trim, especially so on these, our frozen winter nights. Cheers and fair winds from northern Japan.

    Hi Josh. I highly recommend a 406 EPIRP for offshore. The single most effective rescue device. Cheers

    Thanks for the tips, nice to be prepared. I have a pilates ball in the bow under the deck. Does the mast float attach to the halyard? Didn't really hear it snapping the sail in the wind. I think I should get one, didn't like the hobbie ones of solid plastic.

      It mounts above the front stay mounting point as this is a fractional sloop rig. Thanks for watching! Josh

    Well done Josh. I recall an anxious passage north along the same stretch of coast, in a yacht, after an overnighter from the south coast, in driving rain, large swell and poor visibility. Is there any rationale for your mainsheet arrangement where you have several purchases at mid boom together with a single purchase at the end of the boom? (Rather than the more common two or three to one at the end of the boom before moving to a single purchase at mid boom.)

    • @DinghyCruisingKingfisher
      @DinghyCruisingKingfisher  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Andy. The mainsheet was the other way around- lots more tangling options back there, and you also need more line to do the same job. I quite like it this way now. Cheers. Josh

    Another great video. Sorry about your drone. Hope it's rescued...I've managed to get things going again after putting them in a bag of rice for a few days....cameras and Voice recorders mainly. Weather here is very poor but hoping Arwen will get out next week. Intrigued about how you get a drone taking off and landing...hand launch and retrieval or actually into the boat? I haven't been brave enough to fly the spark off Arwen yet. Anyway happy new year and thanks for anothe r great video

      Thanks Steve. Poor dronie is quite dead. The electrics fizzled the control boards. I am investigating repair but I think the salt has done more damage than can be economically repaired. Thanks for watching. Josh

      I have well padded seats after my recent interior reno which has helped a lot. The other thing I do periodically is stand up and steer with my knees. Good for a stretch if the boat isn’t too bouncy. Have snacks and water at hand before you set off is also important. Thanks for watching. Josh

    Hi Josh,
    Looking at your main Sheet on the boom just wondering do you still need to use the vang ?

    • @DinghyCruisingKingfisher
      @DinghyCruisingKingfisher  Рік тому

      My understanding is the vang holds the boom down when running with the wind - the mainsheet will let the boom swing out but not keep it down. Cheers, Josh

      @CaptMarkSVAlcina Рік тому +1

      @@DinghyCruisingKingfisher yes you are right the vang does do it but your main block is very close and leading back to midships so you may not need it.
      Why don’t you ask John Welsford for his opinion? Just a suggestion.

    • @olivei2484
      @olivei2484 Рік тому +2

      I suppose you can watch the shape of the main too to see if vang has any affect.
