Check out Dolly song “Clear Blue Morning.” She says she wrote it in her car after she played Waggoner “I Will Always Love You” and he set her free. I think that song expresses her true feelings about their relationship. It’s illuminating to listen to both songs together.
I am reading Dolly Parton, Song teller: my life in Lyrics as I type this review. That's why I found and listened to this Jukebox History. I highly recommend the book and really enjoy this short story of how "I Will Always Love You" came about. I think it was Dolly's success that made Porter want to control her. So glad that she could stand up to him. I know that the name Dolly Parton is more famous than … Porter who?? Go Dolly! love you and your music.
Glad you’re enjoying the book! It’s a great read for anyone who loves Dolly. And I can agree that success was probably a major factor that made Porter more controlling. Thanks for watching!
thanks for this. have been slowing getting into Dolly and learning about her career and upbringing is always entertaining. I do think she was a victim of misogynistic but she really worked her way not let societal gender roles suppress her talent

I agree! Dolly is an icon. She has such a good discography its hard not to love her. Thanks for watching!
Dolly is literally so iconic
I agree!
Tbh I think it was a combo of Dolly’s success and her gender that made Porter think he could control her, which is really sad
Yea I can def agree with that. He probably had a few reasons as to why he was the way he was
