My beloved wife of 45 years died two years ago and this was our song on all our travels by car driving all over our great nation. She did in fact sleep while I drove. Now I listen and travel alone and cry. Golly I miss her, the love of my life. Thanks Trisha.❤️
Keep moving forward youll be together again. I wish it was still the 90s, people are gone now. This song brings memories of a better time in life. At least you lived and have the beautiful memories. Keep strong!
I love the fact that Melissa Etheridge (my fave rock female artist) wrote this beautiful song and Trisha Yearwood (my fave country female artist did this song. :)
Such a beautiful voice. This is hands down my all time favorite female vocal performance. I never get tired of hearing her amazing voice sing this song. It brings tears to my eyes because it is so beautiful. Fantastic!
Thousands of hours of my life spent with Melissa playing on the stereo. Most of the time 3rd shift driving down a dark highway in the middle of nowhere. A sweet light to hear someone cover one of her tunes.
It's a testament to how both universal and personal the song can trigger you, and regardless of how impersonal others may seem, so supposedly not part of our universe, we all sing the same sad songs on Sunday. morning.
I wonder why it didn't do well? At the same time, Melissa was also scoring huge hits ("I'm the Only One" and "Come to My Window") off of her "Yes I Am" album... I would think she would be proud of what Trisha did with it.

Correct. Melissa's version originally appeared on her 1989 album "Brave and Crazy", while Trisha's version was released at the exact same time Melissa scored 2 big hits ("Come to My Window" and "I'm the Only One") off her "Yes I Am" album. I'm sure Trisha's version introduced a lot of country fans to Melissa's work, who had never listened to her before!

Alexis Dash first off I only know two versions of this. Trisha and Melissa. NEVER have heard Melissa's. NEVER will. Also as far as I know this was NEVER EVEN CLOSE to the definition of a SONG until Trisha got a hold of it. If you think the garbage Melisa has released in her career is even close to being called songs you're pathetic. She does NOT have songs. She has shits. ALL shitty people have shits. ALL talented people have songs
This should have been a Top 5 hit for Trisha....probably the fact that it had fairly recently been done by Melissa Etheridge and covers weren't in style anymore kept it at #23. One of Trisha's better songs.
Jeffery Willoughby NONE OF HER SONGS ARE BETTER OR WORSE THAN ANOTHER ONE OF HER SONGS. ANY SONG SHE HAS EVER RELEASED HER ENTIRE CAREER IS EQUALLY HER BEST SONG. ANYTHING THAT HAS EVER CAME OUT OF MELISSA'S MOUTH IS EQUALLY HER WORST. MELISSA IS GARBAGE. TRISHA IS TALENTED AS FUCK

If you knew anything about Trisha Year wood you would know that she is the original singer of this song, and when you have the original singer singing their song it is hard to get another singer to sing the song better. It was because if this song that i got out of my 3500 population town to see other parts of Australia knowing that I would at some stage return home to be with my mother for some years before God decides to take her home. I left home at 17years of age, we moved to Moms home town when i was 9 so I never got to spend much time with het. You know what its like when your a kid "the last person you want to talk to or be with is your parents" however then you grow up and its funny the way your mind works because you get to a point when something goes wrong or your sad or you need advise or you JUST WANT TO HEAR THEIR VOICES, so I moved back home at the age of 43 just so as I could get to know my mother and her stories of what she did when she was young and I have to say I heard this song on the radio when I was contemplating what to do and my mind was made up then and there. Best move I ever made because now I can say now that I got to know my Mom and understand her, anf be so damb thankful for everything that she did for me, and more importantly UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE DID FOR MR AND WHY. Thank you Trisha for this song and singing it so beautifully. ✨ 🎍 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 🎃🔥🎃🎃🎃🔥🎃 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 🎃🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎃 🎃🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎃 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Have always loved this version by Trisha, I looked up Melissa's version and although I love Melissa, Trisha did a better recording with so much more emotion than Melissa did, just my view!!
Jeanie Hammond MELISSA HAS NEVER HAD AN OUNCE OF EMOTION WHEN SHE OPENED HER MOUTH. SHE IS ONE OF THE WORST JOKES OF ALL TIME IN ANY GENRE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD HER VERSION OF THIS AND NEVER WILL. TRISHA WILL ALWAYS BE THE ONLY VERSION I LISTEN TO BECAUSE TRISHA ACTUALLY SINGS WHICH IS SOMETHING MELISSA HAS NEVER CAME CLOSE TO DOING HER ENTIRE CAREER

Trisha's voice is the only good thing about this cover. The arrangement is stayed and to even, and takes all the rock out of the rhythm of the original. We don't need the bombastic swelling of strings at the bridge, the lyrics and the melody are dramatic and emotional enough. God dammit, 90's Nashville. But, her vocal performance, flawless as usual. Also, side note, is that Catherine Zeta-Jones?

she is so incredible
she can do with just a few simple phrases more than all these pop singers can do with 20 minutes of screamin

Come on baby let's get out of this town
I got a full tank of gas with the top rolled down
There's a chill in my bones
I don't want to be left alone
So baby you can sleep while I drive
I'll pack my bag and load up my guitar
In my pocket I'll carry my heart
I got some money I saved
Enough to get underway
And baby you can sleep while I drive
We'll go thorough Tucson up to Santa Fe
And Barbara in Nashville says we're welcome to stay
I'll buy you boots down in Texas a hat from New Orleans
And in the morning you can tell me your dreams
You know I've seen it before
This mist that covers your eyes
You've been looking for something
That's not in your life
My intentions are true
Won't you take me with you
And baby you can sleep while I drive
Oh is it other arms you want to hold you
The stranger
But lover you're free
Can't you get that with me
Come on baby let's get out of this town
I got a full tank of gas with the top rolled down
If you won't take me with you
I'll go before night is through
And baby you can sleep while I drive
"When you love someone all your saved up wishes start coming out."
