  • When my Ford Focus started having intermittent power issues while going down the road AND sometimes trouble starting, I suspected that there might be something going on with the pedals to confuse the car’s computer. A little investigation revealed a broken return spring on the clutch pedal, but unfortunately Ford had discontinued the part. With no other options, I made a new spring!

Greetings from Ireland. Excellent tutorial. Having same broken spring on 2006 UK RHD version. Your video will be a great help to me. I've looked at a few videos, yours is the best I've seen.

I will let you know, I'm heading to the UK next week to take a look at my son's Focus, I suspect this will be the problem.

For what it’s worth, my Focus’s intermittent starting issue ended up being a failing key switch and the intermittent power loss on the road was a dirty throttle body. It was good to replace the broken spring, but it was not technically causing me problems.
