    After taking the bike apart and replacing the stator I found that I needed a new gasket which was a heck of a lot more trouble than it was worth in saved money.
    Bonus content at the end for the remaining tests for your rectifier, and a couple of discoveries about the Virago wiring.

    Dude just to let you know I would have never figured that out... I went to a bike shop this morning and they were clueless.. I would have had to leave my bike behind if it wasn't for your help.. All who are ambitious and want to tackle this job I will emphasize what has been said already.. It's not worth it! Take it to a trusted mechanic.. Which was my delema I have never found a bike mechanic I could trust.. Good luck whatever U do!!! 😁👍

    I appreciate all your tips and all of your suggestions. Already bought a used stator.. I didn't test the rectifier because I don't have a tester I'm going to put the stator on first see if I get any more power to my battery before I order a rectifier and see if that's the problem. I got the stator before I realized the rectifier would be such a quick fix if that's the problem.. I'm hoping it will end up like yours and be the stator and it'll all be done here pretty soon. I watched a different UA-cam video on fixing a gas leak that didn't cost me anything w some Jimmy rigs.. hopefully that will turn out good when it's up & running! Tks again.. I took a break after I got the part up by the starter w the key star. Just got to figure out how to get that spring out that was holding it. & I will have it out.

      Anyone that watched videos make sure you have the right tools ...you're going to need a Star key & a long Phillips to take off the starter or use what he used to do it with. I had to run to the auto store twice for those two things.. and make sure you have everything ordered.. the stator the rectifier & the giant washer thingy that goes around the whole thing.. I'm spacing the name of it but his fell apart so he had to order one.. and when I saw that I ordered one as well.. I'm only on the first day and I hope I get done in 2 & not 6 by watching the videos part 1 and 2 a couple times & learning from his mistakes... unless it's the rectifier then I'll have to order one for twenty bucks or whatever but that's only a five-minute fix or less ... good luck to all who attempt this if you like to tinker it's kind of fun.. but just be patient. ✌

    SUCH A GREAT VIDEO, THEN YOU FAILED ME! Can you test the new stator installed on the bike and show no more grounded stator at all three wires? Did you test? What did you get continuity or no more continuity?

      Ok, so at about 1:10 on video I actually test the new stator, and at about 5:00 I check that the voltage it working. It's just because the video continues with all the oil leaks that it's a bit anti climactic.

    What is the yellow wire on the end of my stator cable near where it connects to the rectifier? I can’t find where to plug it in.

    • @zeroreality
      @zeroreality  6 років тому

      What colour wires do you have on the cable? Mine was 3 white (bound together) and one blue. It might be the neutral light wire that plugs in under the seat, and under the engine.

      It goes right next to the side stand. There is a screw with a rubber groomet on it. It is a ground for the side stand switch i guess because without it connected you will not be able to turn on the bike while side stand is down

    Hello sir, i took my bike to the shop to get the stator replaced and after spending 600$ and a week later i am having the same exact issue. I have a leak in the gromet where the wires come out. I just got new oil and didn’t do these fixes myself just because i just moved to canada and dont have oil pan hoses funnels gasket sealers and other tools to make this fix. Is there a way to deal with this issue without opening the stator cover again. I would just put gasket sealer from outside but the lip on top of the wires wont allow me . Please help me find a way if possible.
    Thanks in advance

      The short answer is "take it back to that shop and get them to fix their mistake". Though that depends on how much they care about their reputation.
      After I uploaded this video, I discovered the bike was leaking a bit of oil out of the hole where the rubber grommet sat. I just shoved a whole bunch of paper towel into that area so the escaping oil wouldn't drip on my garage floor. It would still leak, but not as bad, and only while the bike was running (and the oil under pressure). In the end it held enough that I could enjoy riding, but my poor bike died the next year (due to another stator failure) at the very end of a three day trip. So I'd still take it back to that shop and get them to fix it. If they aren't willing (or is too far away) then your best bet is to take it apart yourself (time to buy a $10 oil pan from Crappy Tire), save the gasket, an add an extra piece or thin rubber to the rubber grommet so it makes a better seal. Or add a fuck-tonne of liquid gasket there.
      Good luck!

I just slapped on a new reg rectifier and a new battery and it turned on in the first crank. :( he put on a new stator and started which weren’t even faulty. I wasted 700$ already i will never take my bike back to him😂. Ill just stuff some tissues in it for now till i can make some time to actually fix the issue. Thank you sir

    The gromet(plug that seals oil around the wires) on my stator, is also attached to the gromet on the wires to my pick up coil. I have a 96 xv750 virago. How did you get yours apart and reinstall it? Scratching my head here.. I just need to replace the pick up coil. Thanks I’m advance if anyone can help!
    Also, a shop will give you a headache as well, had to keep taking mine back in the past because it kept leaking oil, they sealed the shit out of the same spot with permatex 🤣

    • @zeroreality
      @zeroreality  2 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure I understand. The pickup coil is the part of the stator that I replaced in this video (there's a part 1 in the description). The stator is made up of two primary parts; the pick coild and the rotor. There is only one grommet. Can you post a picture of what you're looking at somewhere?

    • @vanessap8717
      @vanessap8717 2 роки тому +1

      The pick up pulser.. anyhow that’s the part I need but the gromet for the pulser is the same gromet for the coil, and I can’t but them together unless it’s cheap, so I’m not sure how to replace that one part.

    • @zeroreality
      @zeroreality  2 роки тому +1

      @@vanessap8717 Ok, I found pictures of the pickup pulsar, but I can say with certainty that the 1100 did not have this part. Not when I removed my coils, nor did I replace it. I can sort of guess where it would go those based on the shape, and images on eBay suggest that they both need to come out that same grommet.
      Do you have the part already, or are you just making sure it will fit? I think maybe the grommet for the 750 will be different.

      @@vanessap8717 AAAAH nevermind that last comment. It has been a while, but I remember now, there a separate wire coming in and was not part of the rubber grommet. It had its own rubber piece that comes out the same hole, but it separate from the coils grommet!

    i always get so discouraged when i watch these video. i need a stator replacement on my 94, but i dont have any tool and a shop will charge me an arm and a leg. and i really have no knowledge at all.

    • @zeroreality
      @zeroreality  2 роки тому

      At the end of this video I came to the same kind of conclusion. I can either save money, or I can save headaches. I have enough headaches, so I decided that the next thing I needed to fix would be done in a shop. Simple things like throttle/clutch cables or oil changes I can do easily, but big stuff like the stator I don't want to do again. I ended up selling this Virago and bought a new bike, but my attitude hasn't changed. Anything that can be done in a couple of hours I will handle, but for big stuff inside the powerplant I will go to a garage.
      However, it is possible to do this job yourself in a day if you're willing. You can buy a decent ratchet tool set for ~$100, and the stator with gasket for ~$100; so it is certainly a LOT cheaper. Be sure to have that special star bit to take out the starter, and make sure the replacement stator grommet fits very snug into the metal (add some extra to it if needed), and don't remove any of the allen bolts while the engine is still warm (you could strip the socket).
      Whatever you decide dude, good luck!

      Aw damn dude... is the "reeee" sound the sound of the starter spinning while not meshing to the engine gears? If so, you might just need to look at the mechanism that engages those gears (it's easier to get into that than to take the whole thing apart again).
