what you dont realize is siakam lowered his trade value by leveraging his free agency with teams. the raptors were only offering a 3 year max so siakam was gonna walk for nothing. with indiana basically agreed to pay siakam a 5 year max where he will be making 60 million in his 5th year when he is 35. so its a gamble for indiana willing to pay siakam that 5th year as all players over 30 decline and have expiry dates. after a year or two, siakams contract will be untradeable if he declines alot. so its a gamble on winning the chip within next 2-3 years with siakam.
golden state had a better offer with kuminga and moody and 2 picks, but golden state didnt want to pay siakam that 5th year at 35 where he would be making 60 million.
it all has to do with the new cba where it punishes teams in the 2nd apron. its why you are gonna see alot of teams opting for salary flexibility and teams with cap space getting 1st round picks to take players teams dont want for a season or two. raptors rebuilding are positioning themselves for this like okc when they were tanking.

Why are all you guys reporting old ass information? The "Siakam wants to rest FA regardless" narrative has been debunked. What Pascal wanted was a 5 year max via his Bird rights which none of the other teams interested in him were willing to guarantee him. Indy obviously agreed. Bro will lose $60M if he doesn't stay in Indiana, and that's just salary. His tax situation in Indiana is also far better than in Canada. It's also been reported Siakam wanted to be in Indiana over any other team because of Haliburton (who he said he'd rather play with than STEPH) and Myles, who he's wanted to pair up with for years according to him. Siakam is a Pacer going forward.

Sorry bro but you’re working off bad info. By being traded he’s not eligible for the super max. Most guys on tv don’t understand that either. He’s still eligible for a contract near it but not the kicker + its 5% less.

@@LudiCrust.You are working off of bad info actually. Pascal siakam being traded has nothing to do with him being eligible for the supermax. The only thing that affects whether you can get the supermax is whether you are all nba, dpoy or mvp and pascal wont be any of those so no super max.
The pacers have his bird rights so no matter what, theyll be able to offer him more than any other team period.

@mojohand811. Siakam is only eligible for the super max if he made ALL NBA, which he wasnt going to do and he knows that, this was the best way for him to go to the team he wanted to play for, and get the most money, all signs point to him staying.

Agreed with most if the take except for the Pacers not being good drafters. The Pacers haven't had a top 5 draft pick since 1988 but have still drafted some elite talent and quite a few solid role players in that time. Harris Levert in 2016, Myles Turner in '15, Kawhi in '11 (who was traded for George Hill, a solid PG who was instrumental in 3 eastern conference finals visits in a row) PG and Lance Stephenson in '10, and Danny Granger in '05.
The Pacers are not the best drafters in the league, but they definitely aren't the worst. In the last 18 years, they've drafted 3 all stars with their highest pick being 6th and only 3 picks even in the top 10. Compare that to a team like Philly who's had 2 number 1s, a number 2, and two number 3s in the same time frame and they've only drafted 4 all stars (one of whom is Ben Simmons and we all know how that turned out).

Raps are NOT actively trying to get that protected pick back in a weak draft. It's best to get it out of the way now.
"If the pick is not conveyed this year, the pick protections roll over through 2026 as a top-six protected pick. This essentially means the Raptors will have to convey that pick at some point in the next three seasons. If Toronto somehow does not convey in the next three drafts, the Raptors will send San Antonio two second-round picks in 2026 and 2027."
Any and all of that is worse than just conveying now. And it would even be a struggle get to bottom 6 as the lowest. And there would for sure be a team that jumps up in the draft lotto to bump them out. Really not worth going for from their perspective.

Raps are actively tanking trying to keep their FRP and hope to move up in the draft in the televised draft lottery. They want to draft Alex Sarr. Who knows, the NBA is a business and Cavs lost LBJ, New Orleans lost AD and both magically received #1 over draft picks. Cavs receive 3 #1 overall draft picks. Raps next? Larry Tannenbaum (Raps head owner) and Adam Silver are good friends.

It could end up just being a 2nd round pick if it doesn't convey in 2025 or 2026.
Raps could very well be inside the Lottery top 6 for the next 3 seasons as well.
So, Raps traded Pascal for two "shitty" 2024 FRPs and a 2026 FRP?
There will be some very good players in this draft just have to scout them out.

This is a bad trade for the Pacers...Siakam will be looking for $45-50m for the next 5+ years...Raptors would never have paid him that much and he would have walked away with nothing in return. Pacers are not winning the Championship this year so if Siakam does not re-sign they just gave away picks for nothing!

    • @YerpDerp17
      @YerpDerp17 4 місяці тому +4

If you truly think this is a bad trade for the Pacers then you must not watch much NBA. lol And you ended your comment with a worst case scenario, even though they've reported the contrary. The report is he is excited about Indy, and "is eager to sign a new deal with them in the offseason."
Your pairing an allstar with playoff experience, and has the most transition points in the NBA, with a budding all star that has the most transition assists in the NBA. Before Tyrese got injured they were 4th in the east. The only team they legit need to fear in the east is the Celtics. And the Pacers kept enough assets to make another trade or move if a good one comes up. I just don't see how you can't see how great of a move this was for a small market team, who has the number 1 offense before Siakam. They were already fun and exciting to watch, and now its going to be even more exciting.
Do I guarentee a championship this year? 99% of the other teams that aren't going to win this year either. But they will for sure make the playoffs interesting, and are extremely capable of pulling some upsets.

What a dumb take. They win this year or it was for nothing? 😂 how dumb. You think they traded this guy to compete for one year. . The logic behind this comment is extremely ridiculous. Raptors lost all leverage and had to take whatever was offered or lose him for nothing like Van. To even question if he's gonna resign shows a lack of understanding the business side of this.
