Macaroni and cheese 🧀

- Ingredients
- 500g dried elbow pasta
- 120g unsalted butter
- 70g all-purpose flour
- 1L milk
- 250g medium sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 250g red Leicester cheese, grated
- 225g grated Gruyere cheese, grated
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp English mustard
- 60g panko breadcrumbs
Method
1. Start by making the cheese sauce. In a med pot over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the flour and whisk. Cook this for 2-3 minutes
2. Slowly add the milk while whisking the whole time.
3. Once you have a smooth sauce, add 3/4 of the grated cheese and melt it into your sauce on medium heat.
4. Once the cheese is melted, season it with salt and pepper and mix in the mustard.
5. Cook the pasta to the packet instructions and once cooked, drain well.
6. Add the cooked and drained pasta back to the pot and pour over the cheese sauce.
7. Mix well and add to an oven-safe dish.
8. Sprinkle a handful of panko breadcrumbs over the top, followed by the remaining grated cheese and then another handful of panko.
9. Bake and 180°c for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and delicious. - Навчання та стиль

the best mac and cheese I ever had was actually in a BBQ joint....
Mitch is not basic. Gives you simple dishes to not to work too much in the kitchen and can hang out with you more. Mitch loves ya!

In that context I would love to see you cook „Käsespätzle“. That is actually sort of close to mac & cheese and still not at all. It is a very common dish in the south of Germany and one of my favorites. Missing it a lot while spending one year abroad in Ecuador.

I thought he said it because of the blast of “hell air” that you get right in the face every time you open the oven door for the first time. Unless, of course, you remember what’s coming and kinda lean back or step to the side until that first wave is past you. I KNOW I’m going to get blasted, but 90% of the time I forget to take my own advice and wind up 400° hotter with my glasses completely opaque. Then I’m standing there about 3.5secs doing a stupid little dance waving my oven mitts and fanning myself while cussing up a storm, letting all of the heat out of the oven. (Which could be a problem if I’m turning something over or adding another dish, etc). Or you could be right. Maybe it’s joy… 😏

Oh my goodness! You made it just like my great grandma taught all of us to do! This is so great and so surprising! My nan used dried mustard and just a dash of nutmeg. Oh, and just sharp cheddar (freshly shredded of course). We are from the Deep South in the US.
Yes! That’s how my family (from VA/NC) makes it too, except black pepper instead of nutmeg. I’ll have to try adding nutmeg next time I make it. We call it “cheese with macaroni” haha.

I like a sunken living room more than a conversation pit. There's a difference. Sunken living rooms usually have a railing as you enter the space so as you exit the foyer it's a dramatic change in elevation not just a hole in the floor.

I do a oven mack and cheese similarly, but haven't tried the mustard, I use a bit of garlic salt , pepper and smoked paprika in my roux, and top with a bit of Italian bread crumbs, parma, and crunched up dried fried green chillis mixed, and sprinkled over the top.. really good!

Glad to learn that mac and cheese and ribs is a combination loved in Australia as well as America. We have some family friends that come over from Germany, and they always ask for that. Apparently they don't really have mac and cheese in Germany, even the kids were scared to try it, lol
We do have noodles with cheese sauce, also backed (then we call it ,Auflauf‘), but we mostly eat it without extra backing, just the noodles with the cheese sauce 🧀- what comes from the near Italian influence.
Also are that kind of noodles NO MACARONI- macaroni are noodles like little rolls in Italy and also here.
These very small type we call ‚Hörnchen‘, (there are SO many types of noodles!),
so mac‘n cheese 🧀 is ‚Hörnchen Auflauf‘…😅
But we know it for sure!

I use spam in a potato, egg,cheese pie combo. I couldn't afford ham after i moved out of home and it was a cheap alternative.

what i like about this recipe vs your older one from last year is the DOUBLE layer of panko. (panko on top of mac then cheese then another panko layer on top) i'm all about texture when it comes to mac n cheese. i'm trying this recipe for thanksgiving and will use italian seasoned panko

@@Char_siu_Lo_mai_fan ah lil man take it from me a 26 year old living in England, here in the west we have a lot of freedom, that sounds good but it’s made our lives worse off, we harm ourselves with our bad artificial foods, way too many carbs and preservatives, (just noticed you’re name) that’s something Asian countries have kept: honour, duty and responsibility. These things mean very little in the west now, we’ve lost our faith; our religion, too focused on money and on the whole we don’t respect our parents here but you guys seem to in general which is great! It may feel like a hinderance or annoying now but your parents just want you to be a child/teenager that’s healthy am I right? Keep eating those fruits and veggies lil man over here in my country collectively we’ve given up on our diet, just fatty carbs and everything made from preservatives being fed pig sh*t by these big companies and the government doesn’t care about us either so we fight on our own. My own people started about to care less causing parents to care less causing our sons and daughters not to care! We need to break the cycle in my country with healthy eating! 🥦🥦🥦
@@xvndyz oh hi I would say I am not a little man because I too am 26 I live with my Chinese bf who makes me stay on my and his parents rules about eating healthily. In fact I have never had maccas or kfc. I also live in Australia so I am amongst the world of fast food like you are but my parents still keep an eye out on what I’m eating so I need to eat my veggies. I’m pretty used to it tho because I grew up in Hong Kong on the richer side of things where we could afford good healthy food. Ye I also really like Gai lan which is Chinese broccoli :)
