- Days after Carnatic vocalist TM Krishna was announced as the recipient of the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi Award by the Madras Music Academy, six musicians have registered their protest by refusing to be part of the Academy’s ‘Margazhi’ festival 2024 line-up. The six musicians include vocalists Ranjani and Gayatri, Srikrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan (aka Trichur Brothers), Harikatha exponents Dushyanth Sridhar and Vishakha Hari.
On Wednesday night, vocalist sisters Ranjani and Gayatri posted on X (formerly Twitter) that they will not be singing at the December 25 concert as scheduled by the Music Academy because the conference and concerts this year will be presided over by TM Krishna. Haven't we had very great musicians who did not belong to the brahmin community who have commanded high respect from all communities for their vidwat as each one of them was a were musical genius . Only last year, the Raga sisters whom you all seem to critisize and make derogatory statements-- sing a composition of shri Dandapani Desikar at a concert. The brahmins have always remained a peace loving community who have no ill feelings for other castesor religions. Why did Devadasis disappeared from Music? That is due to the law passed on abolition of Devadasi system. Who brought that? It is Ranga Ramanuja Aiyangar who learnt many things from Veenai Danammal and published so many krithis with notations. The dying art of vocal music was learnt, adopted and nurtured by Brahmins. The main emphasis of carnatic music is Bhakthi and devotion of Thyagaraja to Rama is well known. And the musician one who upholds EVRamasamy, who garlanded Rama with chappals is being being given Sangeetha Kalanidhi. What a shame? What has TM Krishna done to emancipate the carnatic music from the so called hegemony of brahmins? Pretty little and will accept the award from another group of brahmins!

TM krishna argument is any art shouldn't be belongs to someone or some community, it should be accessible to everyone and everyone should have chance to stage their shows. But in reality it is not, he wants break the barriers as much as possible. and one more thing, if ranjani and gayathri not doing their shows 97% of tamils will not beg them to do or even they will not thing about them, they are not like cinema superstars, they are like neighbor state strangers.

I understand these two ladies hate Periyar because they feel that he was against Brahmins But they support Modi. W,hen Modi was CM of Gujarat more than 2000 muslims were massacared.
