Great idea! . Build one of black walnut some years ago. Also made my two stands of aluminium. The wooden cover is pretty heavy and I wasn't sure if it could take the weight for a longer period of time. Always afraid to wake up from a firework at the Aquarium, it actually never happend till now. . Back in the days where I built it I've been making some mistakes for sure. I was about 15 or 18 years old. Now at the age of 30 there are some changes to consider. Although it's still in duty during all the years it's becoming more difficult the get the short T5 lights at the shop. I want to swamp them for LED. . The second change should cover it from the water to avoid electric accidents. . The third change has to prevent topwater fishes to jump outside and drown. I lost many fish friends by this circumstance. To solve it there should be a stainless grille on top. It protects the Killifishes from the deadjump and let the water evaporate to safe the wooden cover from fungus. In the middle there has to be a big square hole for the light to pass inside the tank. . My cover is way lower and closer to the watersurface. . Best regards, Johnny 🇩🇪
Any opinion on attaching the lights to the acrylic panel? There are fans top/bottom and heat vents on the sides. Doesn’t hurt trying right? - If it doesn’t work with my skills, I could always spend $60 on a prefab tank mount. Lol Thanks again.
Everything is nice but i or may be 90% people would prefer buying a ready-made led light because it's not easy to make this led as everyone does not have all the tools required to make this DIY light. Well you have nice skills and you made a nice product ☺️
@@GrowingInterest Horses for courses. I was thankful for my mute button. Great video, loved the build and the finished product but could only watch it with the sound muted.
Great DIY video. I am starting a guppy fish hobby and I am searching for custom lightings for a small aquarium tank. This gave me a great idea. Thanks.
I've been using LED floodlights for a while now - they're inexpensive and throw a lot of light. I built them into boxes so there's no light leak. The plants love them - but so does algae, so you'll need a LOT of plants and/or supplemental CO2.
Hey great patience and craft skills. Just a question, is this safe? What happens if it falls inside the water ? I know it should not, but let's think of three kids running around the house!
Usually when it falls in the water you have a short circuit and the light goes out. Then you need to go to the electronic center of your house and pull all lever back up. I used 12v led strips.
Hmm, predict fail in less than a year, applying that material over the top of the aluminum which has the LED strip attached on the opposite side, defeats the use of the metal as a heat sink for the hight intensity lights. Easy fix though, trim back the covering along the edges and re-expose the metal.
El problema que veo ahí es que para un plantado creo que no tiene los lúmenes suficientes para mantener plantas en óptimas condiciones. Sería de averiguar cuántos lúmenes generan los LEDs y así poder calcularlo .
Unfortunately I got it in the flea market :D it's a standard 12v LED strip with cold white light, around 4000-5500kelvin (but not sure) look it up, you surely will find some :)
I used cold light LEDs, I had success in the past with it so I guess yes :D it could be brighter but that's the case with DIY :D but yes the plants are growing 👍

thank you, yes long video and definitely a learning process. Thanks for sticking till the end
The video is amazing, and so is the music. Thank you!
thank you too :)
Nice work. How did you attach it to the aquarium. I mean the spacers you created at 10:40 how are they sticking to the aquarium afterwards?
Hot glue, wasn't perfect but did it's job if you don't wiggle around with it
What a great looking lamp, it looks expensive. Thank you for sharing.
thank you :)
great job is that parts of zelda in the music
Thanks, it's an 8bit game soundtrack. I guess sometimes it's similar :D
Lol Zelda music works for everything.
I'm going to add some red led light, how did you get it to go around the corners like that, didn't show nothing and hard to make out how you did
my LED stripes where foldable, look for flat LED stipes
I love your teaching

Hallo friend,
How it was fixed with the glass of the aquarium, I didn't follow. Please explain once again.
it's lose put on the gass and holds itself with the acrilic white strips
Very nicely done!
Thank you 💚😊
Is this for a low tank setup? the light seems te be too high up from the water
Yes it was a bit too high

R the plants growing good?
yes they are, but that is more on the plant side, easy plants will grow, more demanding plants don't
Cool, great job! Is it just sitting on top? Or glued on? New sub from Australia ❤️🇦🇺
yes its just sitting on top, the bracers hold it in place
Can you specify the led strip lights you used?
regular 12v white light led strips. I got them from a factory sale, I don't know more, sry
Nice build! But it was the soundtrack that kept me zoned in! I’m a music producer of 90’s hip hop so when I hear stuff inside my lane, I tune in!

What did you use for a top panel for led?
just a spare sheet of acrylic, in my case a white satin one

gracias, fue un proyecto divertido. todo lo mejor con tu construcción :)
Now the question, this LED strips can grow plants?
yes they can :) at least in my case the plants are growing, low tech and diy
@@GrowingInterest would have grown even better if it wasnt suspended 20 cm above the rim of the tank lol what was your reasoning behind that decision?
very beautifull !

wow it's amazing dude😍😍😍😍😍

I bought it from a garage sale, but they are widely sold throughout the internet. There are cold and warm light led lights
