Actually I have 2 x T5 HO 6500K 80W 150cm + 2 x T5 HO 10.000K 80W 150cm. I read your replies to other answers and I saw that you used the same colors (6500K and 10.000K) and you added a “grow light”. There are solutions on the market like the Twinstar LIGHT III 1200SA that uses RGBW and it seems to do its job with the plants. I am thinking to connect the lights to a small microcontroller like an ESP32 and develop something similar to a sunrise and a sunset instead of just switching the lights on/off. That would be cool. If you think RGB power LEDs are not enough for plants, maybe I can use a mix of them: some RGB power LEDs for these sunrise and sunset effects and then use the 6500k and 10000k power LEDs for plants during the day and control their use as needed with the controller. What is the quantity and proportion of 6500k vs 10000k LEDs you suggest for this 400L aquarium? Sorry… so many questions but you would help me a lot answering them. Thank you!
@@tjcsantos I do not recommend rgb leds because their lifespan is a little shorter than other single light leds. An electronic circuit is required for sunrise, you need to get support from a store for this, I don't have much knowledge. You can use 6500k 5/3, 1000k 5/1, grow leds of 5/1

Can't you just buy a t5 ho 6500k bulb for £1.50. Doesn't get much cheaper than that. 2800 lumens right there too with just 1 39 watt bulb. This is a cool project though, what do you the estimate the lumens to be? Not a big fan of led lights myself, they're abit more efficient... but far more expensive and much less powerful than what proceeded them. Seems like one step forward for two steps back. I imagine the led setup even of you built it yourself to match say 4 of those bulbs above at 11,000 lumens would cost thousands. If the technology exists at all yet. And you could have that for £8

I want to make a high tech Aquarium And I'm thinking of using 40 leds of 6500k and 10000k With some Blue, Green And "UV" leds. Hi! This is a great DIY led light!! Congratulations for your work. I am motivated to replace my planted aquarium T5 HO tubes by a solution like this one but I don’t know what type of leds to use to achieve a similar light. Actually I have 2 x T5 HO 6500K 80W 150cm + 2 x T5 HO 10.000K 80W 150cm. I read your replies to other answers and I saw that you used the same colors (6500K and 10.000K) and you added a “grow light”. What would be your suggestion for my discus fish tank with natural plants? Should it be led strips? The dimensions of the tank are 140x50x60cm (WxLxH). Thank you very much.
Hello, thank you, you can use the color distribution for your discus tank, it can be changed to 6500 k instead of the grow led, a brighter environment is created for the discus, it will be enough for the plants. If we have the opportunity to make a power led, I recommend you to evaluate it.

Do you recommend RGBW power LEDs? There are solutions on the market like the Twinstar LIGHT III 1200SA that uses RGBW and it seems to do its job with the plants.
I am thinking to connect the lights to a small microcontroller like an ESP32 and develop something similar to a sunrise and a sunset instead of just switching the lights on/off. That would be cool. If you think RGB power LEDs are not enough for plants, maybe I can use a mix of them: some RGB power LEDs for these sunrise and sunset effects and then use the 6500k and 10000k power LEDs for plants during the day and control their use as needed with the controller.
What is the quantity and proportion of 6500k vs 10000k LEDs you suggest for this 400L aquarium?

@@tjcsantos I do not recommend rgb leds because their lifespan is a little shorter than other single light leds. An electronic circuit is required for sunrise, you need to get support from a store for this, I don't have much knowledge. You can use 6500k 5/3, 1000k 5/1, grow leds of 5/1

It would be cool to setup 2 tanks one with a $50 off the shelf light and the one you made. Plant the same plants in each and dona time lapse of each and see if the plants thrive more with your diy.

What's the wattage, lumen/watt or for that matter PAR achieved with these lights. Also 10000K colour temperature is meant for what kind of plants?
Different instruments are required to measure par and lumen accurately. Using a mix of 10000k and 6500k, the value of 8000k seems right to me

I do not recommend using led rod for aquariums at this altitude. You should use a power led. I have videos about this, please look.

Can't you just buy a t5 ho 6500k bulb for £1.50. Doesn't get much cheaper than that. 2800 lumens right there too with just 1 39 watt bulb. This is a cool project though, what do you the estimate the lumens to be? Not a big fan of led lights myself, they're abit more efficient... but far more expensive and much less powerful than what proceeded them. Seems like one step forward for two steps back. I imagine the led setup even of you built it yourself to match say 4 of those bulbs above at 11,000 lumens would cost thousands. If the technology exists at all yet. And you could have that for £8
I still use T5 fluorescent, the leds are longer lasting and the cost efficiency balance is higher in my opinion

I want to make a high tech Aquarium And I'm thinking of using 40 leds of 6500k and 10000k With some Blue, Green And "UV" leds.
