This song always reminds me of my mama, RIP. I’m 62 now but grew up poor working class (cotton mills) and Mama made all my clothes until I went off to college and even then she still made clothes for my sister and me. She was a talented seamstress but I vividly remember being embarrassed as a young teen that I had to wear homemade clothes while others wore clothes bought from department stores. I’m so grateful that I realized as a young adult all the sacrifices she made for my sister and me and was able to express my gratitude to her. RIP Billie Hunter…you were the best mama ever

This song reminds me of my childhood. We had no money and my mother sewed all of my clothes. So I feel blessed as well. Dolly is one of my favorite singers.
I grew up lower middle class but my grandmother sewed some clothes for me growing up and crocheted beautiful dresses and sweaters. @Dolly Parton Yes. With out a doubt. Thank you for responding. Not to many country music stars would send such a kind response. I remember a part you played on Designing Women back in the day and you were Charlene's favorite hick. You played an angel. Perfect casting. Will always love you and your music. Keep singing. Very sad about the Great Loretta Lynn' s passing. She will be missed by us old timers who listened to her back in the day as well as Miss Kitty Wells. Kind regards Tom
I am a zillenial Latina woman who grew up in the Miami area. Country is not popular here, especially not Dolly, especially not in my age group. I had no business looking her up one day but I did, and I'm grateful I did. I'm even more grateful I stumbled upon this song. Brings me joy and tears EVERY time. In fact, this is my go-to when I am stressing over nursing school. Thank you for being such a light, Dolly. ❤ Perhaps I entered the fandom a little late, but I sure love it here.😊

❤❤❤ as I’m sitting here listening you can hear the love and Dolly’s voice as she is singing the song and how much love is in this song. I think it’s awesome the way she’s singing this song.❤
I feel overwhelming and feel to cry in my emotions. I can sense A true American soul of that time too. I would dedicate this song to my loved one of my family. She is with so much innocence angelic voice. Feel Blessed and with such a grace. Thanks.
Dixie Woods This song brings back all my memories of my Grandma as she sewed our patch work blankets I would sit with her and she taught me all the colours as she sewed. I am 62 now but still have one of her blankets she made. My beautiful grandmother did everything for her grandchildren without her I don't know we're my 2 brothers and I would have ended up my dad was an alcoholic and my mother only cared about herself it's sad to look back at the humble life we had but we all made it through thanks to Grandmas loving hands
I love this song, am 28 years with two sons my first born being 8 years old. Nobody tought me this beautiful song, i found myself to it, i love it's every word, i listen to it so often, ans when i take days without listening to it, my 8 year old will come and ask me why i haven't been playing for them the song. I definitely know that he will love it too when he's grown. And provided my state, seeing how am struggling as a single mum to raise them with respect, he'll always remember me by this ❤❤❤
Yes it is truly a "SPECIAL SONG" ... no one sings it as Dolly can ... you have had to lived it to sing it with the feeling and heart that only Dolly can deliver. I hope and pray that your life will get easier and better for you as bringing up two children on your own must be so hard ... I hope you children will come to appreciate real country music ... the words are a real lesson in life that Dolly lived through ... just look at her now she deserves all the fame as she has put in the hard work over many years and Dolly is so modest.
I love this song. IT reminds me of what I'm going through. Each time I listen to it I cry profusely I can't stay a day without listening to it Dolly Parton I love yoy
This song reminds me of my first day of preschool. My grandma made me a red and white dress I was proud of that dress and couldn't wait to wear it. I got bullied that first day and came home crying my eyes out. My grandma wiped my tears and asked me "Do you still love your dress?" Of course through sobs and tears I told her "I love more then anything else" and she said "Then why does it matter what those kids think?"
How sweet... just want to hug little you and tell you how lovely your dress is and have you tell me all about who made it and what your favorite thing about it is 🥲
Just reading comment about you Grandmother Shannon bring so much memories, I'm sorry for those who laughed at you because many of them weren't properly raised and may never know what it feels to get a dress from Granny. I still Fancy my Jacket my Granddad gave to me until this day. my daughter Emily fancy it too. We are Lucky Shann
I was lucky enough to be at this concert at the Dominion Theatre in London, Dolly held the audience in the palm of her hand that night, I recall her saying to the audience, make them cry, make them laugh but send them home happy and she did just that. Thanks you dolly, been so many years since I have seen her in concert but the memory never leaves you.
❤❤❤ I love the way Dolly sings this song from the heart and how her mom made her jacket and took a lot of time making that jacket for Dolly. I love this song always has a way of touching my heart. Dolly is amazing.❤ love always Melissa.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Hello beautiful, how are you doing? This is one of my favorite songs. I could listen to it over and over again, I'm glad you liked it. You have a high taste of good music.💘🌹🎄🎅🌷💐⚘🎁🎂🍪🍷
This song is true to infinity forever. My momma sewed all our clothes too and I’ve lived this too not the same as you, she worked at a fabric store and church. Thank you Dolly and Momma💗 one is only poor if they choose to be. Amen Dolly!
I'm living this song... Poverty and struggling with my first colourful pants that was made by my Mother in 1990 and 1 years later I was a tailor...! I'm blessed by God and I used to wear people's clothes until age 19... And I can sing this song very effective too...
Thanks for the great love ❤️ and support you show me as a special fan of mine😍, I hope you won't stop listening to tracks , and thanks for your sincere Compliment and love towards my tracks ❤️may God bless you.
@@alainterieur913ill take that as a complement since he is intelligent..i pity you, so angry at everything for nothing. you should see a therapist kiddo
@@alainterieur913 well your therapist is a hack, maybe your confused with being poor from poverty. because "poor" not only refers to monetary or material things. example: you are a poor soul You clearly did not get what the song meant, maybe because you are too brainwashed by your political BS. So yeah, good luck staying poor, ya poor thing.
je suis désolé tyronne ,tu n'a fait que reprendre les derniers mots de cette chanson et tu ne méritais pas mes insultes i don't have any therapist, maybe i should?
I felt crying 😢 while listening to this song... In this life, never make mockery of anyone because one day the story will change for good.. Your song inspires me so much... Much love to My Beloved Mum.. May God bless you anywhere you are.. ❤❤
I cry too when I listen to this beautiful song. We were so very poor when I was young, mama made all of my, and my sister's, clothes for school. I still have my wool baby coat (which looks like it was handmade by a tailor) and a skirt and blouse she made for me when I was in 1st grade. We were the two best dressed girls in school.
@@michaelh.g.4045 that she is a young woman discovering new old favorites. why do you have to find an issue? is it because you're old and feel bad about it? like what is your issue, bro
I’m only 20 years old but we were poor growing up. Holes in my clothes and all. I was also raised by my dad as a country man and mom a metal head. My uncle lived dolly and he passed last year. I was raised by two old country souls and find myself sometimes listening to songs like this. I love this song
Wonderful. This is not just a song, it's a snapshot of an entire lifestyle and Dolly captures it beautifully in this simple song and that takes some skill.
I love love this song. It reminds me of when i started my grade 1. My dad could not afford to buy a school bag for me but instead he made a sch bag for me. The bag had 2 buttons to close instead of a Zip. My Dad said the buttons represents him watching my bac. Oooh man i just love my Dad.....😍😍🧡
Anytime I listen to this powerful song, it reminds me of where I was growing up, there was nothing like better life, but thank God for His mercies and how far He has brought me and my family 😥😥❤️❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏
I just love this song & the beautiful story behind it. I could listen to it over & over. Classic Dolly. "One is only poor if they choose to be." Powerful words with a deep lesson. I really enjoyed the movie about her coat of many colors. The young actress playing Dolly was wonderful.

Guys? Once, - eleven months ago, I happend to come in to a radio program here i Norway, seconds to late to hear this song. I simply made up my mind to find it here on youtube, Only to listen to it one time. I did so. But the song made me listen to it over and over and over again, it made ME to go back to MY youth. And in the end; made me return to my hometown to stay there on my own for the first time in 43 years. Since then I`ve returned two times, planning to go back home as soon as possible. THIS song made me homesick! Thanks, Dolly,

I'm surprised by the amount of people curious to know if this song is biographical. It most certainly is and to this day Dolly has her beloved little Coat of Many Colours. There is a documentary I've seen in which she holds it up so proudly and lovingly, with a sole remaining button, the others having been pulled off by the taunting children Dolly sings of. Poor? This lady was born into abject poverty! But thanks to a whole lot of love and of course, her being blessed with a heavenly voice and wonderful songwriting abilities, she has become what we see (and hear) today. Dolly is a rare and precious lady gifted also with a beautiful soul.
she reminds me of my grandmother who had to deal with an aggressive drunk of a stepfather who nearly killed her baby sibling who beat them and their mother now her and all but maybe one of her siblings are dead
❤❤❤ I love the way Dolly sings this song from the heart because her mom took a lot of pride in making that jacket for Dolly when she was little to keep her warm sometimes and mother’s love in touch can make a difference when you need them the most I love the way Dolly sings this song with so much love. It’s a special song from the heart and she’s amazing. Love always Melissa.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I love this song and Dolly's sweet voice singing it! I especially love the part where her dear mother. as she sows the rags into a coat for Dolly, tells her the Bible story of Joseph and his coat of many colors!❤
We need to teach our children that a persons wealth is not determined by their clothes or other belongings, but by the person that are inside. Children are to concerned with material things. I have tried to teach my children not to make fun of someone. You never know what someone elses live is about.
Currently deployed in the Middle East, this song takes me back to my Oregon Mountains and growing up in the country out in my little town of North Plains and remembering getting hand-me-downs from my older brothers. My mom sewed all our clothes to make sure it fit us and we’d wear them the following year to school. I can just pictures her right now sitting there near the lamp sewing away the clothes. Thank you Mother 💕.
There is a lesson to be learned from this song, I wonder how many people hear it. "One is only poor if they choose to be", money isn't the only thing in the world that makes you rich.
Just seen Here You Come Again at the Riverside Studios. Excellent but this wasn't on the playlist. Always makes me cry and reminds me of the school cardigans that my mum knitted for me. I longed for a 'Marks and Spencer' cardigan but mum sewed her love into every stitch she knitted. It's only now aged 77 that I realise how precious those cardigans were. Thank you Dolly for reminding me.
This song means SOO much to me, for my mama once knitted me a sweater of many colors that my schoolmates at that time made fun of ,but meant the world to me because my mama made it! I miss you, mama!💔😭
Dolly your music refreshes me it is for many generation to come.We thank God to have you.I am relieved from stress now.Continue being singer and song writer cause it is your calling.Really I am blessed I am 64 years but I am still enjoying your music May God bless you forever and ever.Mankone Lucy from South Africa.
Tears are flowing down on this 51 year old man. This song reminds me of the early days when we first emigrated to the USA. As me my siblings were growing up we didn’t have much. Kids in school would make fun of me because I I out grew my pants. They would say “are you preparing for the flood”.
Very touching. Thank you for sharing. Truly. It is a gift we can still connect with strangers thru a very personal means. I hope you find genuine peace John Adams.

"One is only poor if only they chose to be" Nice lyrics...very deep with country music's energy and the singer portrays the image of a woman with blonde hair always in my head and dreams and they are one of the protectors of the land, highly accepted spiritually.

❤ Perhaps I entered the fandom a little late, but I sure love it here.😊
Hello how are you doing
Hi, I'm Andre and I'm excited to connect with you here! What's something that's brought you joy recently?

One of my very favorites. The most human of stories of love and REAL values. It brings me to tears. THANKS DOLLY!
Thanks.
This reminds me so much of my mom, she can't listen without crying, neither can I. I love Dolly, she is the Queen of Country!!!
I think this is the greatest song Dolly ever wrote.

I love coat of many colours. It has inspired me so much. God bless you Dolly

This was my mom favourite song. Although I lost her but she's here in my heart forever 💝💝
How sweet... just want to hug little you and tell you how lovely your dress is and have you tell me all about who made it and what your favorite thing about it is 🥲

We are very grateful and thankful for our Mothers. God bless you Dolly! Such a unique and beautiful voice!

And in the end; made me return to my hometown to stay there on my own for the first time in 43 years. Since then I`ve returned two times, planning to go back home as soon as possible. THIS song made me homesick! Thanks, Dolly,

I'm non American.. first time discovering Dolly Parton's music.. her story, and boy this hits me hard. I'm literally crying reading the lyrics 😭
It is, the story is on her biography

I love this song and Dolly's sweet voice singing it! I especially love the part where her dear mother. as she sows the rags into a coat for Dolly, tells her the Bible story of Joseph and his coat of many colors!❤
We need to teach our children that a persons wealth is not determined by their clothes or other belongings, but by the person that are inside. Children are to concerned with material things. I have tried to teach my children not to make fun of someone. You never know what someone elses live is about.
