Honestly, about to be 35 this month of June 2024. It’s comforting to know I am not alone in that and not the only one really wanting to make a comic and about to start mid 30s. I was beginning to think I was “too old” to start now. But, knowing there are others out there in the same boat. Makes me not feel too old.
@@klausd.6285there is no such thing as being "too old" if you want to do something, do it. Should have done it 10 years ago but it's better to start today than tomorrow. Also, being in your 30s is not old at all!! ❤
Every project that I ever started I always tell myself not to make it too big and keep it simple. But after I start thinking about it and working on it I always get caught up in the lore and before you know it it's a large project
Im glad your video showed up in my recommendation. Im just currently forcing myself out of the planning phase and honestly a lot of your information has been the final nail in the coffin for me to reevaluate some of my thinking to make first project more viable and not let myself get burnt out. I haven’t heard of your comic before but your art style and video has sold me on it, I’m gonna start reading it later tonight.
I started my first webcomic as my 'Lord of the Rings' and two years later, I was so fatigued and burnt out, I dropped it completely I will always agree with the sentiment 'don't make your first your biggest' because that's how you drown quick
exactly! it's not that you shouldn't tell the story you're passionate about, just that the work load for something that scale could break your spirit and cause you to resent the very thing you created out of love
Im so glad your video showed up on my recommendations! I've been wanting to do my own webcomic for so long but I get too shy about it... thanks for this video! it feels really inspiring :3
I’m glad it helped! You’re already very skilled so i have total Faith that you would make a beautiful webcomic ! When you get it up and posted, drop me a link ☀️💕
i've been working on my own webomic called jeweldroids that i plan to post to webtoon and tumblr, so hearing these things has helped a lot! it's also good to hear that it's ok to trace 3D models, i personally don't use it for my characters but i do trace over minecraft for my backgrounds (it helps a lot with backgrounds and it's easier to set up then actual 3D models lol)
Thank you for posting this! Such good advice and honestly a relatable story! Your avatar looks seriously good! And it's true...all the MDR characters are hot. Thank you for writing them into existence
I appreciate this video so much. I am the exact same way, I have been planning out a story for 4 years and haven’t actually made anything. I want with all my heart to make it real, so I need to just make it happen and not be afraid of it not being perfect
Thank you for this video! I get stuck in my own head so often. I've started roughing out thumbnails for the story. I didn't write a script but rather plot points and events as an outline.
this is really good advice!! i have a story that’s been sat in the back of my mind for.. probably a couple years now, and i’ve been putting all my focus on planning planning planning. I’ve never made a comic before though, so I will definitely heed your advice of learning by doing. I’ll keep picking away at my Big Story, but as you suggested i’ll work on actually making a smaller one in the meantime. much love my friend ❤
it doesnt help that im obsessed with romance webtoons and im actually working on my own webtoon(s) my first ones gonna be very short (46 frames) BUT LIKE ITS MY FIRST PUBLISHED BABY OFC ITS NOT THE PASSION PROJECT but its in the same universe
Thanks for the vid! I needed some reassurance to work on my smaller comic rather then the big and more exciting one. You possibly have saved me from a terrible mistake lol
Its always so hard to resist the call of the one that you daydream the most about 😭 but dont wanna burn ourselves out completely on an epic project we may struggle to finish. Good luck on your projects and if you get them posted somewhere drop me a link so i can see them 👁
@@dilfsinlove9996 Just wondering would making mini side comics for your series count as making your “lord of the rings” too soon? Like its not the main plot its just short stories set in my universe? I love my story and it’s incredibly personal to me and is pretty much my love letter to my younger self and kids like me, but i am terrified of burning out. 😅
Thank youtube for recomending this video! I've been held back by fear as well, so when I found this I thought this was the universe telling me to just do it. Yes, I'm in my thirties now, but it's never too late to get your content out there. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Its never too late!! Seize your dream of telling the story that means the world to you 💕 im proud of you for pushing past fear and beginning the journey 👏🏻 its so worth it in the end
Still waiting for the day i have someone to talk to. Untill then ill be practicing art by inserting my characters into old outdated memes. So much words written and only ive seen
Planning and writing the comic was so much fun, but when it came to making my 4 year old planned baby I learned I kind of hate the comic process. Turns out visual novels are a more rewarding pipeline for me, but I only figured it out by doing! Won't stop me from binging more webcomics tho >:)
I've been writing and drawing stories for 20 years, keeping them all to myself. I'm thinking of making a webtoon out of a story I started writing in 2016, but I keep thinking, 'It's not as good as a manga, my style is too different,' and it brings me down.
Thank you so much for reading! Honestly, go where your passion lies. If it is a larger scale project, you can still go for it. Just be aware of how many years it might take and brace yourself for it. However, writing and illustrating some short stories first might benefit you so you can get your process more streamlined before you begin a Long Haul
This is such an awesome video, I really needed to hear your point about not sitting around planning. I’m working on my first comic as a warm up to my magnum opus (funnily enough it’s a gl romance, two sides of the same coin lol) and I’ve been trying to plan out all of my story beats so I know what I’m doing. But I never thought of actually giving myself permission to make mistakes. I should be doing that, I’m allowed to make mistakes. If I make them now I’ll have a better grasp at not making them on my big project. This had a lot of good advice, thanks DIL
If course! Im so glad you’re allowing yourself to grow and evolve- and make comics while doing it! I am in full support of your GL project and would love to see it when you post!
Thank you for posting this video. Love the advice -- I'm going to try making memes for my characters, since I love drawing them so much anyway. Also, totally reading MDR. It sounds right up my alley.
Great video! Thanks for your advice, I'll try to do them when I make my comics. I especially use shortcuts. I copy and paste backgrounds a lot. Haha! Best of luck with My Demon Rescue! I'm enjoying the story! :D

Question: since you upload on Webtoon and Tapas, the dimensions for width are different. Like webtoons is 800 and Tapas is like 950 or something, right? What do you do to fit those dimensions? Do you draw for Tapas dimensions and then just scale it down for when you upload to webtoons?
