Do you live in NY? Do you ride the subways? do you know how many gifted musicians are playing at subway stations? After the first few, even though many are extraordinarily talented. You get used to it and keep moving.
ak47law Spoken like someone banging buckets with sticks in the subway stations. Keep on moving huh? Seems it wasn't clear to you that's exactly what I do. Your permission, like your presence, is neither needed or wanted. Save your elementary insults for the children.
bwoodsfinest For some, you are right. But for those of us that are profoundly moved by the music and a human beings commitment to making an honest living, these performers make each second of each day in the subterranean hell that is the NYC subway system more peaceful and enjoyable. Tossing them some spare change or a few bucks is a righteous move. Positive energy that flows while you allow your soul to shine and your spirit to moved is certainly appreciated by the performer. You are right on, Brenda It's all just a matter of perspective. Yours and mine are both plausible. Just thought I'd give you mine. Peace!
Love this guy. His name is Danny Small and he lives in Harlem, he sings on the subway most days. Wish I'd seen him sing live, I wouldn't have talked over his performance like these people did..
The answer is easy - who appeals to teenage girls ? A crusty old black guy or a fresh face heart throb ? Obviously it's NOT about talent. It's about looks.
guesswho revaz This guy is Danny Small. He used to sing for John Gotti back in the days, Legendary Do-wop singer. Probably makes a better living singing in the subways then most people working 40 hour weeks. I know a man with a dog begging averages 35 bucks an hour in NYC
JUSTIN Bieber today young people are lost in society. PEOPLE MINGLE IN TRASH YOUNG INFATUATED WITH LOOKS NOT ETHICAL ACCORDANCE IN TRUTH OF LIFE THE WORD OF GOD.
Amazing. And people are just not giving a shit about it, sitting there, leaving or walking by. How could you?... This just shows what happens with the human nowadays.
I pity those people waiting for the subway and behaving like nothing's happening, I really feel for them... They must be dead inside! I'm just watching this on my phone's screen and it gives me a huge smile and teary eyes :'D
So moved over how beautiful his voice is! Such an amazing and genuine talent! Yet having him go unnoticed is so heartbreaking! May he soon be blessed with the acknowledgment he deserves!
this is what music is ALL about. passion commitment and love for the whole process. this guy embodies what it means to be a performing musician. nothing but love and respect for people like him.
As someone else said, how can people stand around looking so detached? I was sat down, am disabled, and I STILL wanted to dance! (Not possible, sadly, but I can still wiggle pretty well!) This gentleman was totally in the moment singing this, which apart from his amazing voice, is one of the things that made it so enjoyable. There is so much talent around us, we should try to enjoy it, especially when someone this talented wants to share it :)
mhhhh,u all kno him ONLY> as this unbelievable subwaysinger ????? he was the studio-singer, AND THE VOICE ,on even exactly this songs,he performed now in the subway. after some wicked contracts, and kidding him badly on a lot of money,he left everything. god now,he is on his own,and make more money, the managers or contracts ever give him.....
I love this guy!!!! I see him at least once a week! And every single time I have to stop and listen. He is a gem. I have missed many a train for this voice.
In some parallel universe this guy may be a headliner in the alternate Vegas. Here he's just another 'somewhat crazy' acting out on a platform or street corner. Can't help but wonder about his life. Sadly virtually all of us would probably avoid eye contact lest it leads to a conversation and possible insight.
Holy crap! That is amazing! I need to hire him just to sing and entertain me at home. You don't hear music and voices like that anymore. Get him on TV and the radio PLEASE!
Feel so sorry for this guy, he shouldn't be homeless he's got amazing talent! Someone should offer to take him to American Idol or XFactor or something!
For those people who thinks he's lipsyncing check out this video on YT called "My Girl New York City Subway Cherry Pie" If he's not singing, why at 1 min when the girl talks to him, do the vocals stop?
This beautiful life of ours...we have all sorts and we can be who we are; when we want and ....just because. Thank you for this inspiring video! Viva la Vida! Viva!
possibly one of the best singers of that style of music, very soulful, and perfect intonation, in the same categorry as stevie wonder and donny hathaway etc,,,,, great,,,, forget "america has got talent" and programs like that,,, none of them have any talent next to this guy,,, someone give him a chance to record....,phenomenal....long live good soul music,,,,, cheers
People are always trying to talk down about another! What's YOUR talent??? Ugh!! Remember, Tyrese was discovered out and about too!! Learn how to rejoice with and for others instead of always trying to scan them for flaws! OAN: He really does favor Red (it's a good thing) =)
actually its not that much of a shame, hes not a homeless neither a junky, he was singing in a big jazz house in america dont remember the name tho, he has equipment worth of thousands of dollars at home and lives with his son. he has a decent life. saw it on german tv
lol I always see this guy at columbus circle train station at the A,B,C&D south lines afterwork if the jazz band is not performing there. I thought to myself he has a good voice but watching this video really makes you appreciate his talent even more. Nice video upload
how do you upload songs like this without being annoyed by the copy rights thing ???? Please help me !!! This man is just one of the hundreds talented performers in the streets of Manhattan , n they are better than the one that we see on tv !!!
Whew, I could not leave the youtube channel . Song after song after song. Somebody need to bring this to the attention of NY1 so that he can get recognized for true.....Or maybe we all can help him get to the X-Factor....I'm willing to put in my share♫♫♫
His name is Danny Small aka Singing Dragon or Geechee Dan. He is not homeless, and would much prefer a stage to perform every other night, but he is working his way there by being a street performer in the subway station every day.
I have a vid of this man singing as well...Been seeing him for a while now...and I don't think that he's homeless....but I think that he's very talented and likes to come in the subway and sing....Maybe he just missed his boat on success...
that is like some serious 50s/60s flashback. Would love to see him in a band of old-timers. He could seriously do that professionally in some kind of musical review/homage to the classics.
Yes, my english is not perfect :) I didnt mean, that he has no education, only, that he has no education in his voice, vocal training, you understand what i mean? :)
lol, i just saw him in the german television. i really think, that he is one of the biggest talents without any education in this whole world. my whole respect to him!
So typical for New Yorkers: not many giving him money OR attention for that matter...like, yeah...this happen all the time in NY! And they just walk on by.
Didnt see this guy but we saw some real talent on the subway back in March 2011, ie the drifters , they burst into our train, with a few well known songs , Wicked
How can everyone just sit there? This is the real thing -- Music for the love of music --- Some this man some respect --- Let him know you appreciate him.
POWERFUL, MEN OF GOD, BREATHLESS AND SPEECHLESS AND AWESOME AND FANTASTIC AND EXCELLENT AND NICE, AMEN HALLELUJAH, 😊😁😀🤗😃😇🙃🙂☺🙏PRAISE HIM, 🙏🤗BE BLESS, BE ENCOURAGE, GOD BLESS, JESUS #1 😇🙏🤗
Kozmoz, In 1992 I was singing and playing guitar in the subways of Boston with a friend. He had a great voice and played a mean 12 string guitar. I played lead guitar and sang a few songs. We used battery operated amps, had mics and stands, even effects for my guitar. We would get up at 5:30,am get to the subway by about 6:30 am . From then to about 11 pm we played at various stops on the different lines, red, blue, green. It was grueling. You could basically play one good song between trains. At the end of the week, on a good week, we'd have $300. And we were among the best and most well known subway teams. Later we added a black man who had a phenomenal voice. We were all living at a homeless shelter specifically for veterans. Bostonians are probably familiar with it. Eventually, we formed a real band and played real gigs. In fact, we even opened for J. Geils and Magic Dick when they were Bluestime. But if you think it was easy money...you're dead wrong. By the time we got back home at around midnight, we were wiped out. And had to do the same thing 5 hours later. All for about $150 a week each. Oh, and we had to stand up most of the time because the MBTA cops wouldn't let us take a commuter's seat on the limited bench space in most stops.
this guy is still down there singing the same songs, although he moved from Columbus Circle to Port Authority. I saw him last week singing Sam Cooke while waiting for the A train.
I can't stand dancing but I'd be a jiveass turkey if I was there, just elbows and knees in random directions at random offbeat intervals. This guy is sick
Omg!!!Someone please give this guys a chance.I am tired of hearing rappers who's dumb lyrics sound like mumble.
Lol right
I'm trying to figure out how people are able to sit and stand around looking so dead. My God! This man's voice is a blessing.
lovewhispers68 Amen... I agree.
Do you live in NY? Do you ride the subways? do you know how many gifted musicians are playing at subway stations? After the first few, even though many are extraordinarily talented. You get used to it and keep moving.

ak47law You're finished? Do you feel better yet or do you need to have at it some more. If yes, I'd recommend a therapist.
bwoodsfinest For some, you are right. But for those of us that are profoundly moved by the music and a human beings commitment to making an honest living, these performers make each second of each day in the subterranean hell that is the NYC subway system more peaceful and enjoyable. I love Danny's voice Lord Bless Mr. smalls Take Him Placeses Dear God I Pray That You Move Mightily For Mr. Smalls In Jesus Name.
It makes white people feel so good to give to a brother. They would ignore a white person singing on the street.
