I still can't get my head around the fact that they used Taskmaster - a character who copies moves perfectly - in a movie where all the bad guys already fight identically to Black Widow.
I can't believe they turned Taskmaster into a female. But then again Disney and Marvel have been gender and race swapping tons of characters over the years so w/e I guess. I have just stopped caring about MCU stuff at this point. They aren't even trying to keep the comics that made those characters relevant alive. They just throw all the character development and world building that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did for decades down the toilet.
But now Echo in Hawkeye will have her abilities which is the same as Taskmaster's. And another thing it's a dude that pretty much in the suit until the unmasking. Take out the the daughter nonsense and kept him a guy especially if she doesn't even talk I believe
Eh, movies...especially this kind...she will survive incredible things, but for the sake of the plot, and when Scarlet decided it is enough more than 10 years to play that role, she conveniently decides to sacrifice herself for the bigger good of the group.
The first fifteen minutes and the opening credits were genuinely the best parts of this movie. It should have been all about Natashas time as a Black Widow, the Budapest mission, her meeting Clint and her eventual defection to shield. It should have been much darker and should have felt like a legit spy thriller. It also should have been made 5 years ago. Unfortunately none of those things happened
Fr like nobody asked for this movie but marvel just needed to shoe horn a younger black widow because Disney and they couldn’t give Scarlett an actual good movie for her final outing. Such a missed opportunity
@@Gordakiprime lol. Wut? The MCU is full of straight white men. Like, where does this stupid comment come from? God forbid anyone other than straight white dudes receive any kind of representation in media.
Black Widow feels like a sequel to a movie we should have gotten 2 or 3 years ago. Most of the movie is Natasha reminiscing on events from her past we've never seen and trying to get her family back together who we never saw together ever.
Exactly, any of the emotion they wanted us to feel wasn’t there because this stuff was just introduced, so the whole hate for the bad guy and empathy and love for the “family” just wasn’t felt, but some scenes in the house were nice, I think they could’ve used that for moments later though
I honestly feel like all of that was to get us all more invested in her little sister. Since it seems like they are going to be doing more movies with her in them, and this way her back story is out of the way we know her and feel something for her.
The thing about this movie is that it acts more of a movie that only exists because 1. People kept asking for a BW solo film 2. Just to introduce new characters
I think it should've been a series like Loki and Hawkeye, at least it would've had more time to set everything up and the writing wouldn't have been squeezed into a two hour long movie.
yeah, they kinda mention the red room in Agent Carter where there's this russian spy who can mimic american accents perfecttly from watching disney movies and following along and handcuffs herself to her bed at night for whatever reason. I'd have loved for the movie to delve deeper into the Red room's history AND into Natasha's history but instead we got this half baked pie that was made with salt instead of sugar
My biggest problem with this movie is that it should have given us a reason WHY Nat decides to sacrifice herself more than she and Hawkeye were besties
I completely agree with everything you said This movie should’ve been way darker it’s child soldiers wtf you can’t make me feel bad about literal killers without a deep dive into their minds and why they do what they do
@Erwin Lii I’m just saying don’t make a movie about a fugitive child spy if your only going to touch the surface of what goes behind that like honestly it was just a set up for her sister they did not do justice on her character at all
I really feel like whoever wrote this film didn't realise that she isn't a super human super hero, they have her acting as if she's Spiderman or something, capable of falling from incredible heights and surviving anything with a minor scratch.
I laughed really hard at this but apparently people were asking why she didn't ask any other avenger for help and the director did respond to this and said "it's because she's a strong woman that doesn't need a man to save her". I legit laughed because the movie is about family and the Avengers were like a family that she was disheartened after Civil War but na she doesn't need family because they're all men like WTF?
That was a dumb comment by the director, but that's the one downside to a a universe with multiple superheroes who know each other. Take iron Man 3, when Tony invited the Mandarin to attack him at his home, he then should have made a call to an avenger. Then when those helicopters show up to attack him, the hulk comes jumping out and smashes all of them and the movie is over.
No it’s even funnier then that. He’s saying that Natasha is so selfish. So egotistical. So absolutely fucking self absorbed that she would put her family, innocents, and the world at risk because she didn’t want to ask for help. Like a child would do.
The dumb thing about the comment they made is that people forget you can be a strong person and ask for help. It takes a lot for people to get help. It would have been cool to see the avengers help her out.
@Erwin Lii they dont have to be the bottom of the barrel. GotG (1 and 2) and Infinity War movies and few other top contenders are great films, even must watches and worth rewatches. But yeah... Can't expect majority of corpo movies to be above average.
@@seanbrewer1232 The movie would of been over right away if Tony had his armor. He called out the Mandarin but he was in his house not prepared not even in his armor and when they did show up the armor went straight to Pepper. That was so out of character for Tony to not be prepared for that.
I liked the first 10 minutes when they were actually doing spy stuff. The movie should have been a tense spy thriller nstead of a ridiculous action film. They could have made it about Natasha breaking into the Raft to free the Avengers or uncovering a government plan to create the Dark Avengers with super villains.
The decision to make a Black Widow movie only after she's already dead is a completely baffling awful decision. This had potential to be a Bourne like movie in the MCU but the MCUisms hold it back every time. The humor constantly undercuts any dramatic weight.

For those who don't know, this taskmaster is a bastardized version. The real taskmaster is a guy with a photographic memory that allows him to mimic anyone's movements ever since he was a kid. He became a agent of shield, & during a raid of a German base he took a German super soldier serum witch made him stronger overall, but at the cost of losing his memory everytime he learns something new. He became a mercenary because he forgot he was a agent of shield or that he had a wife who constantly tried to help him.
@@herdiantz8545 personally I see task master more a winter soldier or cap villain rather than MCU Widow. If they gave her her comic backstory and left her as unique I'd have agreed
The only good thing about this movie for me was the fact that it was filmed like five minutes away from my house and I went inside the actual set when they had finished using it.
Funny thing is, it was David Harbour's idea to sing the song to try to reconnect with his "daughter" after the family reunited. That wasn't a scripted moment. One of the best scenes in the movie, and it was total improv by a great actor.

@@eyezj7412 Hawkeye introducing Echo; a character with photographic reflexes like taskmaster, says that the show’s writers care and know far more about the source material than this movie’s writers do
@@pizza-time71 why? Introducing Echo and using her properly are 2 different things. To be fair I haven't watched it and I don't intend to so good luck to them.
But wait...wasn't it explained that Taskmaster was lethal killing machine because she had a magical chip implanted in her spine/head or whatever? How would a plot-serum somehow fix that? How would a plot-serum somehow 'fix' a problem in the girls that was entirely psychological..i.e., not able to be simply handwaved away?
So ur telling me if the human wearing the it wasn't in it the suit can fight black widows anyways? Wow just kidding It's not about the fact that they made him a she. Her story stayed the same but wish she atleast beat BW a bit more than what she did haha
Another thing worth noting: when the ex-widow sprays Yelena with the antidote and her teammates are contacting her, she never once thinks "Hey, I got sprayed with a cure for mind control. What if I go meet up with my teammates and spray them too? Then we can work together and figure this out". Instead, she just runs for it by herself...
She's wounded, disoriented, and as she just moments earlier demonstrated on her benefactor, 1 knife or bullet away from giving the antidote back. Immediately going rambo to try to convert the surrounding widows back doesn't make all that much sense...
@@jiiaga5017 But the thing is that her teammates had no idea she'd been sprayed. She didn't have to go in guns blazing. Just say "package secured", meet up with the team to get patched up, then spray her teammates while their guards are down.
@@insertclevernamehere1186 Its still extreme risk. You could definitely argue she should have mailed half the vials to natasha and then used her knowledge of in-place widows to ambush and free some of them with the remainder. But trying to scam her handlers while being disoriented from just being freed without first securing the main objective - getting the antidote out so her recapture doesn't end everything - would have been a *tm* bad call. The movie logic of what she did wasn't all that smart, the armchair general logic of saying she should have went immediately rambo would have been really really not smart.

Fun fact: The younger Natasha is played by Ever Anderson, daughter of Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson. She also played young Alice in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter!!
They had the most realistic villain (human trafficker) and couldn’t create a more compelling story. They could have done SO much more with misogyny and the very real issue of human trafficking but didn’t even TRY to do that!
My biggest issue with this movie is that it's Black Widow's first stand-alone movie and she doesn't feel like the protagonist of her own movie. Literally everyone talks about Florence Pugh's character and Natasha is just a side character.
The worst parts of the movie (IMO): 1. They disrespected almost every aspect of EVERY character's history, present and comic canon without really needing to 2. The Russian accents, my god 3. The Black Widow program (from being spies to just obvious killers in uniforms on the streets, the history being erased apparently, the 'villain' in control, the reason he wants to have the control, etc) 4. No BuckyNat or even a mention of what was literally pivotal in her development in the comics 5. Alexi and Melina are knock-offs of their comic counterparts, but in the worst ways 6. Dreykov and Taskmaster are just laughable. Especially the chemical/pheramone bs and how they butchered Taskmaster... 7. It's about a decade too late but sureeee, wE LoVEd iT...
My perspective was based solely on the movie, but I can see how if you're familiar with the characters in the comics you might find some of the interpretations unbearable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I can't tell what was dumber. The pheromones, or Nat's solution being to slam her head so hard onto the table that her brain crushed her olfactory nerve against her skull. At the very least she'd have a concussion, if not be knocked the fuck out in the attempt.
This could’ve been a thoroughly heartfelt sendoff for Nat and Scarlett Johansson’s run as the character Logan style but nope, it was yet another messy glorified setup for future movies and shows instead
The ridiculous level of invulnerability could have made some sense if they had simply revealed that Black Widows were given some version of the super soldier serum (having synthesized it from the Winter Soldier's blood or something, I don't know). The writers didn't even bother to make that simple retcon. They just didn't care.
They could've easily said a super serum copy was attempted but never reached the level of Captain America and it only lightly enhanced endurance, reflexes and resilience to blunt force trauma.
Wait weren't all the widows given a super solider serum knockoff? I looked it up after watching the movie and that's what it said, I thought I missed it while watching the movie.
The sad thing about this movie is it could have just been about Florence Pugh taking up the mantle of Black Widow and it would have been better since Scarlet doesn’t really do anything except look bored. The ironic thing is that this movie when it was written, it was during the early stages of Marvel’s movies - and so many people pointed out how it doesn’t fit with the current Marvel films at the time; in perspective, it would be like in making the midquel to the Dark Knight Trilogy, you have Batman Forever - not a terrible movie, but noticeably out of place.
The core script for Black Widow was written for only 11 days. I know you can capture lightning in a bottle once in a while when writing a script, but that alone didn't feel right at all, even though revisions were supposedly made on the script since then - either they didn't change much and left most of the bad ideas in, or there was clashing visions between the initial writers and the ones that revised it quite hard, that it hurt the film.
I laughed out loud at the post credits scene. Did spooky Red Skull snitch on Hawkeye? How the fuck would anyone outside of the few involved in the time heist even know he was there when she died? It's so stupid I kinda love it.

Yeah. I honestly did like this movie and didn't like what they did with Taskmaster. But that's probably my only big problem I had with this movie. Idk. I'm probably in the wrong for this but I thought this movie was decent. It's not great but serviceable, certainly better than how they treated Spider-man.
I wish I've gotten my money back for this movie. This movie should have been a grounded and epic spy movie, but fails on so many levels. The Black Widows are never explored. Natasha's family come off as a bunch of jerks who've abandoned each other. Everyone makes dumb choices. There's no stakes. And after seeing the reveal of Task Master, I realized that the people who made this have no passion or care when making this film. Marvel needs to work on developing their villains too. We are truly in the middle of phase bore.
They should've gotten a different director, Cate Shortland just wasn't the right director for a big blockbuster Marvel movie. If I could tell this just from her Wikipedia page that's a problem.
Fun Fact: The reason they used "butterfly" in the hangman is because the black widow story is a loose representation of MK Ultra experiments that went on back in the day where they really were trying to make slave assassins. The slave minded assassins were known as monarchs.
It's the best Just Cause movie I've seen... because there isn't another. And it's also the best Metal Gear movie I've seen but that won't last, they're making one.

@@wolfgangkranek376 Yeah an i'm astonished how diverse they are... given that russia has a totally different history in terms of migration than the US.
Ok so I had the idea that instead of Draykov’s daughter being taskmaster, they should’ve left him basically how he is in the comics and made Draykov actually Draykov’s daughter in one of those crazy face-changing masks, cause her face was all messed up from the explosion, and a body suit pretending to be Draykov, so she could continue to run the red room as him both in spite of and for revenge for her father’s murderer. So the whole movie we think Draykov is still alive and running the red room out for revenge for his daughter’s murder and then we find out the twist that it’s his daughter running everything now looking for revenge for her father and for her own life that was ruined by Natasha, and like at the end Natasha would have this moral dilemma of “do I kill Draykov’s daughter now that she’s trying to kill me or do I try to find a way to help her to redemption because I caused all of this in the first place” kind of thing
This might be controversial, but as a pretty big black widow fan, I think this is one of the worst marvel movies. Such a disappointing send off for Natasha. She deserved better.
@@ParagonBourne exactly. I wanted to see a black widow movie about her origins and how she came to be with shield and why her and Hawkeye are so close. I don't give a shit about her fake family no one ever heard of until now.
Black Widow is supposed to be her call sign. Metaphorically, it's supposed to conjure the image of the super spy femme fatale. Calling her Red Room comrades Black Widows would be like if they rebooted Top Gun & said the main character started out in a secret organization called The Mavericks. They just completely misinterpreted the character. Not surprised the director had never read the comics. She said really intelligent things like, "I needed a reason for Taskmaster to be working for a criminal organization like the Red Room." Meanwhile, Taskmaster in the comics has worked for every organization & it would be weird if he hadn't been involved with a shady company. & Task from the comics had quips. Why would the MCU & Kevin Deadpool a character like that? Bad management of the property by a director that's not even a fan of the source material. Why did they let someone who doesn't believe in the genre make a movie about it? What was wrong with the conflict they set up? Black Widow got out, but she never stopped looking for her family is a great set up. There's your story. Taskmaster trained her, which would be a nice homage to the comics, where he's trained everybody. They have a complicated, mysterious backstory that let's the audience imagine all kinds of things. I mean, it practically writes itself & you can use a lot of the same set pieces. Just make Black Widow the inventor with Stark tech of the magic red juice that de-radicalizes the Red Room assets, who all have their own cool call signs that would let the designers show off some creativity & sell more toys. I mean, how do you drop the monetary ball like this. You can showcase her spy abilities & super gadgets while going undercover to find her sister & set it during the period between Iron Man 3 & Age of Ultron. There are lots of holes to fill in there, with Tony's suits & the budding romance with Banner that would allow for monologues about her past or if you wanted to do any crazy flashbacks or talk about PTSD, a reoccurring theme in the MCU. I don't know how they messed this up, except maybe they thought she was supposed to be invincible like Captain America & not a super spy. It's so weird.
Really feel like they cut Natasha down before her time. Considering the events of No Way Home (without spoiling) and how cosmically powerful and reality-twisting the ending was, surely they could've found a way to bring Natasha back as Black Widow from her being sacrificed to become the Soul Stone.
This film is problematic in many ways, for me it was that Yelena was funnier and more interesting than Natasha herself. Scarlett is a very good actress, but Florence is equally good, if not better. And it is not a good sign if the main character gets played to the wall.
I think that's because they wanted to uplift her character as Important for the movie because she's taking up the mantel of black widow. It's like what they did in Logan. But worse.
Yeah I didn't give af about Natasha in this movie. I liked her sister more. I heard rumors that this movie was actually gonna be about someone taking over the Black Widow title and I was so pissed when I heard that cuz I wanted a Black Widow movie with Natasha as Black Widow. But now I'm wondering how the movie would have turned out if her sister was the Black Widow
Gonna be honest, Johansson isn't that good of an actress, her range is quite limited and you can never really fully immerse yourself in the idea that she's this or that character, she's just always Scarlett Johansson as ... , a bit like action movie stars of the past, think Arnold or Stallone.
@@nekonebitan2912 It’s too bad this comment was lost among all the others. The way it was executed in Far Cry 3 honestly deserves move recognition since it actually had an impact on the scene and wasn’t simply done to look “flashy”

@@goofygoof338 I doubt they changed taskmasters gender because of politics, I think it was purely for the sake of the plot twist that taskmaster is actually the villains daughter/ a black widow. Not saying it was a good plot twist but tbh they didn’t really give task master any other personality/backstory in this movie so idk.
@@FirstnameLastname-zq8oy i mean let's be real, at least half of the reason is politics, the other half is admittedly probably that garbage "plot twist".
Im surprised they didn't go the super soldier serum like the comics. It would actually explain why she keeps up so well with super humans beyond just being well trained. I was really hoping for it.
Taskmaster was the biggest letdown for me. The rest was fine but his suit design and the stupid reveal made him a wasted opportunity to have a recurring badass mercenary in the MCU.
Taskmastrer is probably one of my favorite characters and didn’t mind that it was Antonia Dreykov. I do wish that it would hint at Taskmaster having a grudge with Natasha. Could’ve been like smashing the screen of Natasha’s face on a tablet, etc. The reveal is kind of underwhelming and the fact that she was cool with Natasha at the very end was kind of disappointing. Don’t forget that Natasha was responsible for her fate.
Yeah they really could of had a beautiful moment if they made Natasha have to kill her in defense. It would be so much more real to the point where she would have to realize that she created a killer and made a monster.
The thing that bothered me the most about this film was actually how it made Black Widow's sacrifice in End Game much less meaningful. She didn't want Hawk Eye to die because despite the fact they meant so much to each other, he had a family and she did not. Her whole story has always been around this... The avengers were always her only family, and that's why she made the decision she did for the infinity stone. She has many voice lines supporting this thought process in all the previous films. It's clear the family subplot in this film was badly shoehorned in with little thought for continuity. The existence of this movie just makes her death in seem shallow, or that despite everything that happened she still didn't consider Yelena or her fake parents real family after all lol
I don't think Elvis is very familiar with his comic book counterpart to say something like that. Essentially turning Taskmaster into a suit and making the wearer a boring silent killer was pretty terrible.
I think you misunderstood the ending? From what I gathered, they weren't giving Yelena a "new assignment" they were basically setting her up to want revenge so she would go after Hawkeye? I could be wrong though
The thing about sending through the post office, you know the Hope Diamond was mailed through the post office once? They figured no one would look there and then they don't have to deal with any attempted heists. So...
No one would figure a 10 year old boy delivering it either but you still don't deliver something so vastly important via a non-reliable method where something can go wrong.
Sorry Elvis, but no they did Taskmaster dirty… they turned a dope a** interesting villain with traits like an highly talkative and arrogant personality into a blank slate of a character that has no dialogue, no personality, and nothing else just to put in a twist that fans really dreaded to see. I liked parts of this film but Taskmaster being translated so poorly from the comics to the screen makes me rate this film 3.4/10
I think what bugs me about this films the most (this coming from someone who enjoyed it) is that it feels like it was created by someone who hated the character of Black Widow. The constant moments of Natasha getting hurt, thrown around, etc. all feel malicious and no way show respect in the character or her story. Such a waste.
I think the obvious explanation for how Natasha can survive all of what happens to her is that no one told the writer that Black Widow is not supposed to have superpowers. The writer just figured out _"Eh, it's a superhero movie. These people can survive things that normal humans wouldn't, so it'll be fine."_
Some versions of Black Widow do have a Russian version of the Super Soldier serum, no? But, yeah, not quite super powers, as it should only have her at peak potential, rather than super powered.
You thought they did Taskmaster pretty well in this movie? They retconned his (now a her) backstory just to make her a throwaway character in a single standalone “Black Widow” movie now making it a pretty much sure thing we will never see Taskmaster as a villain in the MCU again.
Nothing is set in stone, there is still the possibility of a former SHIELD agent named Tony Masters to make his appearance in the MCU. I really want the real Taskmaster, I try to be optimistic about it.
@@grahamreid4635 That's true, but I feel like the character isn't deep enough to bring back for anything significant. Unless they said she was just a false taskmaster and then bring out the "real" one
I thought they were going to make Taskmaster a robot based on their introduction and how they moved And I honestly think I would have preferred that to the version we got, because if Taskmaster was a robot would have been a possibility of him returning.
Strong disagree about the "not convincing Russian accent" actually. This, and not the Hollywood's "bad guy Ivan", is how Russians actually speak English (I know, I am Russian haha). Florence Pugh absolutely nailed it!
TBH i disagree completely on Taskmaster, they did the character incredibly dirty in this movie. I think in the entire runtime Taskmaster only actively copies another characters moves once, and that's on the bridge. Otherwise she's just vaguely using captain america and hawkeye's skillset or being a massive bruiser. Which is hilarious when you learn that the person wearing the suit for a majority of the runtime was actually a stuntguy, and during the unmasking scenes they just edited the actress head onto his body. Makes you wonder why she got the acting credit in the credits sequence when it was the stuntguy on screen for like 95% of the runtime. They completely changed Taskmasters character, story and gender, but they did him okay cause she copies people occasionally? Nah. They did the character awfully. And they need to stop genderbending characters for little to no reason. How much of the story would have really changed if they said Taskmaster was a mercenary that the evil guy hired cause he knew Natasha was the best and just sending black widows after her wouldn't work. Or that he knew about the serum and was scared sending too many of them would cause them to also turn on him. And by the way, how does it make any sense whatsoever that she can fight the Red Guardian in such a dominant fashion? We're meant to believe the guy is a super soldier at least near the same tier as captain america, Taskmaster in this movie on the other hand is supposedly only mentally conditioned. There's no mention of her having been given a physical boost or any sort of super steroid to boost her capabilities, yet in the fight she's beating the shit out of him and throwing him around and he can't do a thing about it. It's not even that she's more skilled then him and is dodging everything he dishes out, she's just overpowering him. Then at the last second the equally unpowered fake mother backflips her into a cell with minimal effort. The whole series of events makes absolutely no sense. I'm not saying Red Guardian should have won he's a dumbfuck bruiser. I'm saying it should have been more of an even fight that Taskmaster should have won through skill, technique and abusing equipment.
The Taskmaster was most likely put through the Red Room training, and this movie shows us that that makes you practically unkillable ;) But yeah, they did my boy so dirty.
Honestly, if you really think about it, they basically just made Taskmaster a ripoff of the Winter Soldier… In a film franchise where that character arc was already done with the Winter Soldier himself.
All I wanted is a cool dark spy movie. Seeing her in the red room, her dark past, and how she got into shield. What I got was another marvel boom boom bang bang movie that was so boring and nonsensical that I nearly went out of the theater three times. I am telling you this movie is the cure for insomnia.
My fiancé has worked on a few marvel movies. The car crashes were the HIGHLIGHT of production. Like…it’s like they want to crash cars and then they build a story around it.
Uh, a great twist ending would be that this is hell. It doesn't play after civil war but after endgame. Her dying over and over, all the people we never heard of because she tried to forget is her hell. You could set it up that she gets a message out in the end.
The only redeeming quality of this movie for me was the introduction of Florence Pugh into the MCU. I badly wanted a solo Black Widow or a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie but this was not a movie for me. As action movies go it was very middle of the road, as an MCU flick it was bottom of the barrel. Definitely a one watch movie for me.
Had Feige had his shit together from the get-go, a Black Widow - Budapest movie would've been released in 2012 right after Avengers. It would've easily ridden the coattails of the team-up in terms of box office and critical acclaim. Then, make this movie (with a general script overhaul, obviously) into the sequel, and give us a third one set between IW and EG where she co-leads the New Avengers (War Machine, Captain Marvel, Rocket, Nebula, Okoye) with Steve.
You remember that really impactful scene from Avengers 1, where Loki really dug into Natasha’s past, and made fun of the idea that she could ever make up for what she’s done? You know how that one scene basically made her a fan favorite instantly, and made people WANT her to have her own movie, all those years ago? This movie turns that scene into a joke, by having the fat funny commie man literally say what Loki said verbatim, but in a fatherly way. And then, this movie that’s supposed to be the send off to this fan-favorite character, has her defeat the bad guy by “tactically” bashing her f*cking skull against a table. And this is just the start of the list of character assassination and just stupid f*cking writing decisions in this movie, let alone phase 4 as a whole. The actual state of modern Hollywood. And people give this f*cking sh*t positive reviews, and even defend it.
No one wanted this movie. I’m glad fans hated it. Don’t ask for stupid things next time, like a shield agent who isn’t even a superhero getting their own movie…..

The movie would make a LOT more sense if they showed her getting the super serum at the red room like in the comics. A 2 min scene could make this movie and her entire time in the MCU make more sense
Not to mention, we KNOW Natasha will not die in this movie, because we already know how she dies. So all of the suspense is gone during any scene where they make it seem like she is in danger. We already know she makes it out of all of this.
I know that this is unrelated but...you know after that RE video, you now have to tackle something even more disappointing because of the last 2 movies. The Underworld series.

Should’ve just been an actual goddamn espionage movie and/or based on that mission her and Hawkeye talked about but nah. We got this.
The actor who played Alexei (David Harbour) actually admitted to have improvised the sweet scene with Yelena. Honestly my only favorite part of the film and it wasn't even planned by the actual writers.
Alexei was "married" to Melena, who was literally the creator of what made the girls submissive -- she was also a former Widow. He had to know what the Red Room was.
I've been in a rollover accident. Even w/o physical injuries, it is several mins (at least) before your body can even move itself. At all. Naught to do w strength or skill.
The avalanche scene totally could've happened... But from the sound, not the shockwave. Notice how sunny it is? That means there's thaw on elevated, heavily-snowed mountains. Recipe for a snowy disaster.
I was waiting for this movie for years since i had seen that it was coming. Black widow has always been one of my top favorite heroes so it was a must watch for me. After years of waiting when it came out and saw it i had mixed feelings. The movie isnt bad but it couldve been so much more which makes me sad. But at least we got Yelena and shes awesome so👍 Edit: I didnt mention how underwhelmig task master was. She had so much potential, like even the suit looked cool af. But then she ended up being JUST dreykovs daughter, she couldve been more.
I have the same feelings. I liked it kinda. But still it feels like the movie was just there because fans kept on asking and for introducing Nats replacement. Yelena is great and all...but I had hoped for more Nat/Clint bromance.
I skipped Black Widow and I don't think I missed anything. I enjoyed what came after, WandaVision, Loki, What If, Hawkeye, Shang-Chi, No way home... Everything was amazing. Although in Hawkeye perhaps I could've watched Black Widow to learn more about Yelena but still from the series I saw what her fuss was about so I don't think I'll ever watch this
The underbarrel grenade launcher fired at 25:52 has a separate trigger from the gun it's attached to, just in front of the magazine, so it couldn't be fired without reaching for and pulling that trigger.
I liked this movie, but compared to the rest of the MCU movies, I think it was kinda boring. I don't know why, it just gave off a goofy comic book vibe, and I don't know why :/ Edit: 17 minutes in, I now know why. But this movie was a pretty great introduction to Yelena, and I loved her character. Her and Red Guardian where my favorite characters in the film, other than Black Widow herself :)
I'm a big MCU fan, and this video is entirely fair. Really appreciate how Elvis even actively points out how people love to shit on the MCU just for the hell of it often. It makes it harder for me to criticize Marvel movies, because they will take any negatives and run with it with lines like "MCU should've ended years ago, see??" or the much dumber "MCU dying, and it's because it's now WOKE".
It's literally dying because it's woke. Wokeness is destroying the entire industry. You should go see a psychologist for that SJW problem you have before it gets worse.
I don't think you understand, Black Widow is a "strong independent woman" and such beings entirely are immune to; Death, Failure, Consequences, Character Flaws, etc She only died in Endgame because she got close to a Man and lost such epic and almighty powers
I was (and still am) SHOCKED the reviews for this movie are very positive overall. Absolute hot garbage. Easily the worst MCU movie. Did NO service for Natasha. It’s tragic, really.
I still can't get my head around the fact that they used Taskmaster - a character who copies moves perfectly - in a movie where all the bad guys already fight identically to Black Widow.
EXACTLY, why would they not save him/her for an Avengers movie??
They could have swapped task master with a generic super black widow and the movie would be unchanged.
Bro it upsets me so much Taskmaster had so much potential in the cenimatic universe.
She survived so much in this movie that it’s surprising that the fall on endgame actually killed her
Mfer would commit a Padme and die of heartbreak if Hawkeye sacrificed himself
🤣😅👌🏼
No she didn't die in endgame. She just got a scratch on her back after that fall :)
Never thought of that lol
THANK YOU!!! So glad to see this comment!
... We're never gonna find out what happened in Budapest, are we?
Fr like nobody asked for this movie but marvel just needed to shoe horn a younger black widow because Disney and they couldn’t give Scarlett an actual good movie for her final outing. Such a missed opportunity

Black Widow feels like a sequel to a movie we should have gotten 2 or 3 years ago. Most of the movie is Natasha reminiscing on events from her past we've never seen and trying to get her family back together who we never saw together ever.
I would say even further away, like after Winter Soldier would have been perfect
This movie was clearly written to be before Endgame and instead we got stuck with Captain Marvel, the charisma vacuum.
You hit the nail on the head. I've wanted a Black Widow movie for YEARS
The thing about this movie is that it acts more of a movie that only exists because
1. People kept asking for a BW solo film
2. Just to introduce new characters
Who cares why it exists. It didn't have to be poorly written.
Was expecting more of a Black swan type of story. Imagine my disappointment when I saw this movie.

@@ivanrenic4243 I get that a lot😂
I think it should've been a series like Loki and Hawkeye, at least it would've had more time to set everything up and the writing wouldn't have been squeezed into a two hour long movie.
I really wish that they just made it an actual origin story about natasha’s time in the red room
yeah, they kinda mention the red room in Agent Carter where there's this russian spy who can mimic american accents perfecttly from watching disney movies and following along and handcuffs herself to her bed at night for whatever reason.
I was very disappointed about the severe lack of Clint. I had hoped for more insight into their friendship.
Yup.
I think it was more of the fact that Hawkeye had a wife and kids that she was also very close with.

What I'd have liked to see, personally, was a Black Widow and Hawkeye movie. Say a better story of how Clint recruited Natasha.
Or Natasha discovering there are Skrulls posing as important people, which could then launch phase 4-6 as Secret Invasion instead of the M-She-U.
The decision to make a Black Widow movie only after she's already dead is a completely baffling awful decision. This had potential to be a Bourne like movie in the MCU but the MCUisms hold it back every time. The humor constantly undercuts any dramatic weight.
And its not even funny humor

For those who don't know, this taskmaster is a bastardized version. The real taskmaster is a guy with a photographic memory that allows him to mimic anyone's movements ever since he was a kid. He became a agent of shield, & during a raid of a German base he took a German super soldier serum witch made him stronger overall, but at the cost of losing his memory everytime he learns something new. He became a mercenary because he forgot he was a agent of shield or that he had a wife who constantly tried to help him.
He was also the person who trained John Walker to be Captain America (fun fact)
That sounds like a wicked cool idea for a story about nature vs nurture…too bad they didn’t use it

1. They disrespected almost every aspect of EVERY character's history, present and comic canon without really needing to
2. The Russian accents, my god
3. The Black Widow program (from being spies to just obvious killers in uniforms on the streets, the history being erased apparently, the 'villain' in control, the reason he wants to have the control, etc)
4. No BuckyNat or even a mention of what was literally pivotal in her development in the comics
5. Alexi and Melina are knock-offs of their comic counterparts, but in the worst ways

The idea of "Black Widow" being the name of more than one character is from the actual comics though. It wasn't made up for this movie.
I enjoyed the total of 5 minutes of Taskmaster interactions in the Spider-Man game more than the entirety of his screen time in this movie
Yeah, those are great!
More like her screen time cause politics
@@goofygoof338 I doubt they changed taskmasters gender because of politics, I think it was purely for the sake of the plot twist that taskmaster is actually the villains daughter/ a black widow. Not saying it was a good plot twist but tbh they didn’t really give task master any other personality/backstory in this movie so idk.
@@FirstnameLastname-zq8oy i mean let's be real, at least half of the reason is politics, the other half is admittedly probably that garbage "plot twist".
As a taskmaster fangirl i'd like to say that this is not the taskmaster, this is just a poser trying to give them a bad rep
Im surprised they didn't go the super soldier serum like the comics. It would actually explain why she keeps up so well with super humans beyond just being well trained. I was really hoping for it.
This movie should've been released after civil war. Also thought it was a good movie but taskmaster was disappointing
@MrDjBigZ
Don't you mean "she" because she got all the credit and not the true actor that look a lot like Tony Masters.

Exactly! anyone could tell it was a man's body.
Isn't it hilarious that the person actually in the suit doing the stunts and movement(basically 99% of the movie) was a dude
@MrDjBigZ
I know that's why I said about it clearly being a men's body.
Taskmaster was the biggest letdown for me. The rest was fine but his suit design and the stupid reveal made him a wasted opportunity to have a recurring badass mercenary in the MCU.
The worst thing was Taskmaster. They did what they do to Deadpool in Xmen origins to him.

A nice cast and so much wrong in this movie.
But the family interactions from the house scene really got me, I think they did them amazing!
Don’t forget that Natasha was responsible for her fate.
she totally didnt have a grudge, otherwise she would have attacked Natasha at the beginning, instead of focusing on the vials
Same here, Taskmaster was the main reason I was hype for the movie, but they threw the character away imo, could’ve been cooler
@@cornperson6862 that wasn’t task master idc what the movie says.
Yeah they really could of had a beautiful moment if they made Natasha have to kill her in defense. It would be so much more real to the point where she would have to realize that she created a killer and made a monster.
@@devforfun5618 Yeah... That's what their saying.
As a Norwegian, I can confirm that the avalanche thing is the most realistic "weird thing" that happens in the entire movie.
Cool. I also find a "weird thing" that her hair went from blue to red.
"They did taskmaster pretty well in this movie." Wtf? That is one of the worst parts of the movie as a whole.
Ikr he(or she?) Is just so meh.
The "plot twist" was way to obvious.
Its kinda what they did to Deadpool in Wolverine
@@kurtwagner4663 exactly, they put in more effort for a twist to make great movie worse.

The thing about sending through the post office, you know the Hope Diamond was mailed through the post office once? They figured no one would look there and then they don't have to deal with any attempted heists. So...

@@Guywithahousethateatspeople Or deliver it to the wrong address. Lol
The character was so blank they needed a canon reason for her to be so blank 🗿
@@Axterix13 she does have the serum but it just slightly increases her strengh. in this movie she might as well have injected compound-V into herself

Never say never. They brought the real Mandarin back into it even after Iron Man 3.
@@grahamreid4635 That's true, but I feel like the character isn't deep enough to bring back for anything significant. Unless they said she was just a false taskmaster and then bring out the "real" one
also…. they never really called her task master fr
I thought they were going to make Taskmaster a robot based on their introduction and how they moved
And I honestly think I would have preferred that to the version we got, because if Taskmaster was a robot would have been a possibility of him returning.
Strong disagree about the "not convincing Russian accent" actually. This, and not the Hollywood's "bad guy Ivan", is how Russians actually speak English (I know, I am Russian haha). Florence Pugh absolutely nailed it!
We found a fake Russian working for Disney.
@@gregoryl.levitre9759 good for you, buddy
I 100% agree you, man.
THANK YOU. I am SO SICK of seeing random gender flips, too, on top of what they did to "Taskmaster".
I personally liked it
The Taskmaster was most likely put through the Red Room training, and this movie shows us that that makes you practically unkillable ;)
But yeah, they did my boy so dirty.
For a movie that came out 1 year late from its original release date, this movie felt 6 years too late.
This movie is the definition of " TIS BUT A SCRATCH"
Uh, a great twist ending would be that this is hell. It doesn't play after civil war but after endgame. Her dying over and over, all the people we never heard of because she tried to forget is her hell. You could set it up that she gets a message out in the end.
This somewhat serious action movie has a lot of cartoon logic
I was wondering how Natasha survived some of these things. I remember years ago it was theorized she had the super soldier serum. But nope.
It was in the comics but not the MCU. She just has whamen powah in the M-she-U.
You're right about a lot of things, but come on things aren't all bad.
No one wanted this movie. I’m glad fans hated it.
Don’t ask for stupid things next time, like a shield agent who isn’t even a superhero getting their own movie…..

I have never fallen asleep watching an action/superhero film, even the doom movie from like 2005… I fell asleep during this film on my first viewing.
The movie would make a LOT more sense if they showed her getting the super serum at the red room like in the comics. A 2 min scene could make this movie and her entire time in the MCU make more sense
