The idea of giving Eternals a limited series and Moon Knight its own movie is what feels like a lot of fans wanted (still pumped for the MK series tho 🤞🏼)
Thats how I felt, there's just WAY to many characters that definitely do need their own set up, and they need time to show their relationships with each other, and _then_ character development, _then_ the overall plot. They needed episodes to get all that in
Not one interesting character among them. The movie is hot garbage. A high budget Marvel movie with low Budget Heroes no one gives a wet f*ck about it. Had to pause it a few times. Nothing about is worth anyone's time. For some superheroes, they sure can't handle a normal 4 legged sized Monster. Watch The Jurassic Park world movies or any of the transformer .. yes even the knight something something one. I found this film, to be very offensive. Like headache inducing migraines.
I dont understand why so much people think that the shows get so much hate so if you wanted the eternals in a show than wait for the next fucking eternals movie cause thats what there going for not every bad movie shouldve been a show anyone whos ever read the comics know the format of a show is not the place for the eternals to be so stop acting like your opinions are right if youve never read the comics
The writer/director actually did intend to end the movie with the earth being destroyed but Disney obviously wouldn't let her. Gotta say, I admire her hubris for thinking she could be the one to end the MCU with the Eternals movie of all things.
@@NeoConnor1 if you look it up, there are plenty of articles quoting an interview in which she talks about it. And I am slightly wrong. The original ending didn't directly show that the earth was destroyed. It essentially cuts to black and the eternals wake up on a space ship with their memories wiped being taken to the next planet.
@@claranadine1086 Disney execs deemed it "too bleak" and apparently it confused a lot of people because they couldn't comprehend that the badguys won in a marvel movie.
The things that pissed me off most about the film were 1. They completely wasted Bill Skarsgaard as Kro 2. Kinda annoyed me how Ikaris just offs himself at the end 3. Kingo not even being part of the final battle at all
Flying into the Sun is dumb. I feel like most people can’t process just how far away that thing is from Earth. 93 million miles. Ikarus flew 93 million miles within however fast it happened in the film.
I have an idea where Karun (the camera man) is allowed to see his family before he dies by Kingo, and it’s a wholesome set piece where he hugs his daughter and grandkids, and Kingo is just like, “Goddamn it.” and decides to save the world. Look what I’m trying to say is the old man work and being best buds with an immortal god is a really interesting dynamic that deserves more exploration.
@@TalentCaldwell It took him a full day looks like. Sounds reasonable considering his flying speed is only slightly slower than Lacari who covered the entire globe in like 30 seconds.
The funny thing too is that Thanos is technically an half eternal, half deviant. Harry Styles character is Thanos' brother. So the eternals not intervening when Thanos attacked made no sense.
@@unropednope4644 But the movies are based on the comics. So they're no excuses for this film's bad writing when they literally have the source material as research to properly adapt it but they didn't.
@@unropednope4644 movies are based off of comics. Making pointless retcons like this when you literally have the lore at your fingertips is simply bad writing. Cope.
Someone did state that we never actually see him die meaning he will most likely make a return in a future film or something... That just makes me annoyed as I don't like his character at all, a clear clone of Superman (that even the film itself realizes by having a kid ask if he is Superman).
We already met a celestial in the MCU, Peter Quill's dad. He wasn't out and about creating more life, rather plotting to take it. Sounds like to me Marvel wants to retcon something that's already been established, what a surprise.
I'm pretty sure that movie was written before they thought of bringing the real celestials in. That and having a catch all term for cosmic heavy hitters is probably easier to digest than his actual origin which is kind of convoluted.
The mistake was making them essentially rebel against their own nature and fight each other. They should have reworked the cause for conflict like they did with Thanos; the Mistress of Death would have been hard to work into the established tone if the previous movies, so they changed his motives to make more sense. And it still felt like one cohesive universe. iF OnLy ThEre WaS sOuRCe MaTeRiAl. Ideas is hard you know.
This movie did not need to happen this soon. They should had waited, they are exploring "cosmic" tier power level and crazy ass plot that does not need unveiling yet. They didn't even slowly announce their existence through the Marvel lore and how each Eternal fit into in the history of Marvel, like how 'Thanos" was setup for future films. The Eternals were just thrown at us out of nowhere.
@@benger9681 Sure you can, they need bazzillions of content for Disney+, but stubbornly refuse to make world-building shows there to support their CUs.
Your right, they should of been built up to or just made it a Series instead to actually work out their story properly. Like how can Thanos be descended from them? What I think would of worked is to have Sersi join at least work with the new Avengers, so people could connect with someone. This feels a lot like the Spiderman III issue, they had to much for one film so they just cut half of it and smashed together what was left...
If you think about it, slavery has been a widespread characteristic of human history for an insanely much longer time than its been widely seen as being bad
The MCU has been so disjointed since Endgame and it’s so disappointing because there is so much they could be doing, but they keep releasing stuff like this
So they are definitely just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. They did this with phase 1 but I think it just feels worse now because we’ve seen them do really good, even with origin films. Also, it is being done at such a large scale that it’s making it really obvious. When you’re releasing multiple products every year you’re going to get more trash products yearly as well. It was so much better when they were focusing on 1 to 2 movies at most with the occasional third movie thrown in. Now they have 2 to 4 movies every year with multiple TV shows. It’s so all over the place and confusing.
Eternals was weird for me. I would enjoy it for 3 minutes then get bored for 20 minutes then enjoy it for 3 more minutes and just repeat the process through the whole movie.
For we must all appear before “the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (2 Corinthians 5:10) We will be judged for every deed we do whether is be good or bad. This isn’t something to worry about even if our bad deeds out weigh our good. Because none are good before God, all have sinned against Him and cursed His name, but He in His tender loving mercy hath given us His Son as our ransom. When Jesus was dying all of Gods wrath and judgement was poured out onto Him even though He was sinless. He was sacrificed and tortured on our behalf though we are sinful and carnal. Christ payed our sin debt with His perfect sinless blood so we may escape judgment and have everlasting life. But this great gift is only for those who accept it and accept Him ❤️
Should've been a Disney+ TV Show. We would have gotten to know the characters better and got that sense of Family. The Director coulda study & developed the characters better, plus we could explore the toll of how being an Immortal affects someone's mental capacity. Edit: guys wtf? Why are we talking about race?
@Yung Murk Wokeness ruins everything. I miss the the days when a black child could sit down and not see a single person on screen who looks like them, and that was considered okay.
@Yung Murk I really could not give a damn bro. I never read the Eternals Comics, if they changed the Avengers Color then yea I would be mad but no one cares about the Eternals.
This movie could've been more compelling if Druig and others who love humanity fight against those who are loyal to Celestials when Thanos exacted his plans. It would make much more sense when the Eternals stayed separated after the Infinity War, and the message of "family" could've resonated better since they gather together (including Kingo) to fight for what they believe is right despite their past arguments.
My biggest gripe with the Eternals is Why aren't all Eternals made exactly like Icarus? Their only objective is to kill the deviants and not interfere with a species's evolution. So if that's the case, why not just make all of them incredibly strong, able to fly with laser vision? Athena is meant to be specialized in fighting or whatever but gets easy clapped by Icarus. So, what then? Is she useless? Because it seems like it. A lot of their powers besides Icarus seem solely useful to meddle with the lives of humans. How does that make sense?
Isn't their mission also to advance societal development so that the Emergence can occur? Like Phastos and his inventions and Sprite inspiring art. I know that conflicts with their rule not to interfere but that's my biggest gripe: the movie doesn't really seem to know either.
I think the argument can be made for Thena and Gilgamesh, but the rest clearly have different roles. They're there to protect the people and minimize collateral damage, Sprite with her illusions can distract deviants away from populated areas while Druig evacuates the residents. Sersi and Fatsos can help humans rebuild or advance for a faster emergence. It's possible Kingo's abilities are on par with Icarus, but focused in a more ranged direction to cover Ikaris' weaknesses.
it wouldve worked way better as a show. they tried to cram 10 new characters in a 3 hour movie, give them backstories and personalities, and try to get the plot moving, then they tried to kill some off but it had no effect on us because we dont know them at all
What really irritated me was their excuse for not helping in the fight against Thanos. They said in the movie that the snap had delayed the birth of the new Celestial, so there was no reason for them to not help. Also, i know that they've changed things from the comics and I'm okay with that, but in the comics Thanos is half Deviant and half Eternal, which is why his brother (Harry Styles) looks normal and Thanos is big and purple.
Wait.... The birth of the celestial was delayed due to the snap, therefore they....didn't need to help? Did they want the celestial to be delayed? For what reason? You'd think that would be be a reason FOR THEM to help, so that the birth isn't delayed.
Wait... Thanks isn't half deviant, he's full eternal. Humans have the X gene that can trigger mutations, hence the mutants like the X-men, the deviant gene is the same but for Eternals. I guess they were made from the same gene stock and they can regress.
We dont know if thanos is half eternal in the mcu + the battles on earth were Quick and in isolated location, + they were all living separated and among human at the time + they exist to fight deviant and have decided to not participate in human’s conflict
I mean, that whole thing with Thanos kind of happened so fast that not even Nick Fury knew about the battle in Wakanda until it was too late, let alone when Thanos abruptly teleported himself there mid-battle. How exactly were they supposed to know that all this was going on? I feel like whenever people ask things like "Why didn't X come and help out?" when talking about MCU movies they seem to overlook the fact that superheroes are not omnipresent.
@@AtariDad 100% agree. Another thing to keep in mind is that the Eternals were not working as a team for the entirety of the MCU existing, they were all just living their normal lives. Sure, it would definitely be possible that some of them would have felt compelled to help out in some of these crises, but the Celestials' plan is not a valid argument for it, because they were no longer acting on behalf of the Celestials.
The only thing going for the movie was it’s potential. It had a lot of interesting concepts but unfortunately it didn’t live up to any of them. It felt like a 8 episode show crammed into 3hours.
It could have really worked as a miniseries. It felt like 4 hours long with all the lore, but it also felt like it needed way more plot and background story to make it work.
Because they want the Eternals to blend in, and there are plenty of Deaf people out there. Also being Deaf isn’t a flaw; correct me if I’m wrong, but we never see Makkari’s deafness handicap her once in the story.
@@cthulhutheendless1587 That “blending in” thing kind of makes sense, but being deaf is by definition a flaw - one of your senses doesn’t freaking work. That’s a flaw.

21:24 I have a big issue with the flying into the sun. How fast does Ikarus have to travel to kill himself? Because if he moves at light speed sure he can get it done in like 8 minutes, but obviously he doesn't move at light speed because if he did Makari would be useless and the Eternals would not have defeated him. Even at the speed of sound it would take like weeks just to fly all the way up and he never thought "hmm maybe I should go back down or something to find a quicker way to get killed" Doesn't make sense, like the rest of this movie
We've seen people travel across solar systems in the matter of what looked like hours. I think this is closer to Star Wars. Space distance isn't really considered in most fiction.
Sprite is inspired by the myths of mischievous, child-like spirits. They're a child because that's the role they're designed to play in cultural development: the childish trickster. The eternals don't just exist to help mortals stay safe, they also exist to inspire them into creating myths and legends, since that leads to cultural development and intellectual pursuits.
It’s kind of odd to give all of the Eternals different powers. Like, *only* Ikaris can fly, which is a power that honestly all of them should have. And the powers range from amazing to weak. Kingo’s finger guns are noticeably weaker than Ikaris’ laser eyes *and* need to be charged up to do any real damage, so Ikaris makes him redundant, Druig’s mind control doesn’t work on deviants or eternals, so he can only use it on humans, and he’s specifically not supposed to do that, Makkari is deaf because of the sonic booms her speed causes, Sprite’s illusions are largely pointless when the fighters just rush in and slaughter the deviants, and Ajak’s healing is so slow that she can’t really use it until the fight is over.
Woah, her deafness is caused by sonic booms from her speed? That is actually interesting. I was so bored with the movie that I don’t remember if that was mentioned somewhere in the film.
Reminds me of the scene in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Elvis made a review of it recently) where they are all on a bus recording Leatherface... That scene and the scene of her in this film make me cringe so much that I want to punch the director in the face, 1 - it makes the movie age poorly and 2 - IT IS NOT NEEDED!!! Why do they add this sh*t into the movie thinking people will enjoy it???
That and this movie are made for the contemporary audience. They’re simply products of their time. Not everything is made for future aging. They don’t have to make it blank and identity less just to cater to next generations who don’t even exist.
@@LilacSreya this movie is literally just factory 101. You have a great point there. They skip out on a lot of writing lessons and it's crazy because the director is absolutely fantastic like her other movies are insanely good
The way the Celestials are described makes me think of the Reapers from Mass Effect: -They go away for an accurate amount of time -Let a species become intelligent over that time -Leaves things behind so the species can become more advanced quickly -Comes back to end the species AND -Makes another one of themselves from the species destruction. I'm just saying, Marvel didn't need the Eternals... just a Shepard.
but sole purpose of Reapers is to wipe out civilizations too advanced (that's why Humanity survived previous one). They don't mind if civilization is wipe out earlier. Technology they leave behind is mostly not their choice.
I really wish they made this as a series instead of a movie and I hope they do remake it as a series because I feel it has potential to be better and the characters have so much backstory that they can expand upon
They tried to do too much at once and (unsurprisingly) it flopped. Or a better way to put it is that they tried to make an Avengers movie but without the 5 other movies that already established the characters and world. Yeah, there's other movies in the MCU (obviously), but this was just so disjointed from everything else that it felt like it didn't even fit with what was already established. I think they knew that. Which is why they relied so heavily on flashy visuals.
they went for wokeness. a gay black eternal, a "disabled" deaf eternal, a Hispanic female leader that gets replaced with a female Asian lead. oh and straight Whiteman bad. they checked every box they could think of literally.
I understand that the eternals were given human emotion but I fail to see why they would have any sort of sexual attraction to anybody let alone humans when they have no need of procreating so why would they be wired to want to procreate? this movie has a _LOT_ of issues
@@StarboyJuno Actually no, I can see that. Its normal to have a crush on someone older than you when you're young, and it gives a good reason for her to side with him. Its only weird if he returns feelings for her, but I don't think they were hinting at that being a compatible relationship. I could be wrong about that last part though cause I haven't seen the movie.
The story of the Eternals sounds epic asf! This is my first time ever hearing this. The movie itself may be "bad" but listening to how you described the storyline made me 🤯. I loved it!
I saw this movie with my mother, and I asked her if she liked the movie. And the one thing she had to say about it was that she didn't understand why everyone was into Circe, and saying that she was a: "Nothing of a girl." Which I translated to meaning that she was a self insert Marry Sue.
i rlly hate the whole “mary sue” descriptor when it comes to most characters, but i gotta agree with ur mom, circe has like literally nothing going on for her
@@canine_meat_angel But that’s not what a “Mary Sue”. It’s not a boring female character everyone likes. It’s literally a self insert character for the author that’s meant to fulfil the author’s fantasies of interacting with the characters. Who is Circe representing here? The screenwriter? The director? Jack Kirby?
When it comes to superhero movies, I am very easy to please. I like almost all of the MCU movies, even the movies most people seem to hate. But I did not like The Eternals at all. Absolutely nothing about this movie worked for me. It was incredibly boring and poorly written. The only moment of joy this movie gave me was when Ikaris flew into the sun. I burst out laughing, but I'm pretty sure that's not the emotional response the movie was aiming for.
I'm also someone who is quite easy to please as well. To me, Eternals was honestly alright. Some things are definitely questionable but I definitely would put it lower on a MCU tier list, I don't think I can handle watching it a second time, watching it once is more than enough for me
Honestly Elvis, i have watched so many videos about the eternals but none have deconstructed, researched the flaws of it this deep and i love you for that. I love how you explained the story, the agenda of it. I haven't watched it, maybe i won't watch it anytime soon, but i loved this video and shows how passionate you are about what you do!
@@haotianxie6684 He's an Eternal-Deviant, born with deviant syndrome which is why he looks the way he does so they should've interfered but seeing as it's the MCU he probably isn't even an Eternal.
Can someone explain to me why one of the Eternals is deaf? If Eternals are created and not born, then did they make her deaf on purpose or was it an accident? Can't they repair her then? And why would you have an Eternal that can't hear in the first place? Isn't that important for combat?
I remember seeing the trailer and thinking, "This looks like it could be a really cool movie. But it probably wont be." I remember I used to feel so excited for movies but now I tend to assume they aren't that great. I know bad movies have always been around but I feel that given the generally larger bugets and advancements in movie tech, the bar for modern movies is automatically higher. Just me?
When I was watching this movie, all I could think about was how much potential the story would've had if it was fleshed out over a series or something.
I don't think the high budget has to do with how good a movie will be, it's the writing. Since we have so many movies now and the accessibility, we are getting more selective with the movies we watch (which is good). Before, when it was less accessible to get movies and less movies were coming out each year, you had to be happy with what you had, now we can choose and it's made us realise we should just watch better movies
Personally, I don't think it's really fair to have a bar that gets raised based on the progress of technical advancements. Filmmakers already have so much on their shoulders with the film classics that came before, raising expectations based on something that not everybody has access to (larger budgets) and something that's bound to happen (advancements in movie tech). Wanting more and asking more automatically instead of just enjoying movies based on their own individual merits doesn't seem... uh, right. I mean, Battleship Potemkin was released back in 1925 if everything adhered to this bar then lordy lawd what would movies be like right now? 👀
I can’t stand Kit Harrington tbh after Game of Thrones and Spooks - I realised he just plays Bland, emotionless, confused characters. Not a bad actor but that’s like his only thing.
This video wraps up my own thoughts on the film quite nicely. I really enjoyed parts of it, but I feel like it would have functioned a lot better better as a TV show, as that would have given the audience room to breathe and to get to know the characters better. The scene about not helping in the fight against Thanos really bugged me too, especially since he’s half deviant in the comics and his plan directly interfered not only with Earth’s baby celestial, but many others across the universe I’m sure. The eternals definitely should have been introduced before or during infinity war and helped in the fight against Thanos.
The Eternals fall into the Justice League trap: what's the point of having a strongman, a finger-gun guy, a sword wielding warrior and a speedster if the flying laser-eye God can do all of that and better? Learn proper class design / balance! :-P
On my first watch through I spent the entire movie saying “ya know, if they were just death bots that’d be easier” and “if they were death bots this whole thing could’ve been avoided” and “why wouldn’t god just make death bots?”. I died when they did that reveal and was basically like “ooooh! So they are death bots but they’re really bad at being death bots. Yo mean god dude, make better death bots next time.”
This is the most perfectly based review of this film I've seen. Both pointing out the silliness but seeing the real substance within it. I wish the genre did a little more of this.
The first movie should've JUST been about the Eternal's fight against the Deviants. That way they could've fleshed out all the characters. Especially Deviant Skarsgard as a prime antagonist and his powers. At the end of the movie they could've found out about the Emergence and the true purpose of the Deviants to set up the sequel
4 words-- too many main characters. It's really hard to flesh out the story if there's just characters coming one after the other. Three hours is also not enough to make them 3 dimensional characters even if you give them their own moments. I was hyped for the eternals and even defended it from the people who instantly hated it before it even released. So i was genuinely disappointed of it being this bad. So much wasted potential, the most practical way of approaching this would've been a series of movies where the characters pop in a few at a time. Or a straight up series with a few seasons.
True I didn’t really care that Gilgamesh died and Kingo just dipped right before the third act and shows up during the epilogue. Add in the fact the deviant feels as if the writers forget about him for a bit and this movie feels over stuffed
i gotta give it to them, "Arishem the Judge" (dope ass name) looked so cool. He gave me chills the first time he appeared, like his sheer size is awesome
Having a deaf eternal was so stupid lol, it's obviously did it just for the sake of "representation", But it makes absolutely zero sense narratively 🤦🏻♂️
Celestial: "let us create a deaf Eternal and see what happens lol" also being deaf kinda hinders combat abilities but I'm no Eternal so I cant really speak
I h a t e d that, it makes 0 sense for the eternal to have any disabilities and she was clearly just put in there for representation even though her ability basically allows her to "hear" anyway Representation is good but when it makes zero sense it's pointless, like a live action Pocahontas with a Japanese character
I can understand if something went wrong and they explain how she turned out deaf, especially because it's clearly established the gods or whatever suck at producing life. If you put it in the lense of "they purposely made a a deaf eternal" then of course it'll sound stupid. Honestly, this is borderline ableist representation is not a bad thing. Its really a non-problem considering how the plot of the movie doesn't make sense. If you wanna talk about stupid, let's talk about why they would make a child eternal? It seems more reasonable that they did that one on purpose, but like why? I truly don't understand the point or advantage she would have?
@@blueismylove3128 Pointing out that something in the story doesn't make sense is not "borderline ableist." Representation simply for representation's sake is usually not good storytelling.
@@Shinigami41395 That's clearly not what I'm talking about, don't act stupid. It's the fact that y'all have a problem with a deaf eternal because you're against representation for whatever reason. Her being deaf doesn't hurt the story line and I already explained that.
My biggest issue with the Eternals was makari. Like if you were going to make a group of elite warriors that had the ability to destroy monsters…why make one of them deaf? That seems like an unnecessary deficit
To be fair, Karun was the real MVP of The Eternals, mostly because he was just an average joe with an understandable motivation. Unlike some of the other characters.
I think the peak of stupidity for this movie is the end, where everyone is just super chill that the earths core has been ripped open, the mantle breached, and everyone is just like, “oh, ok, normally just that much would end civilization, but we’re all cool now, no after effects. Go about your day”
I feel like this movie is the biggest cope MCU movie. It simply wasn’t interesting and looked pretty bland, even for an MCU movie. Also they really pulled the thousand year old anime girl meme lmao
This would have been much much better if it was a a Disney + shows. Could have literally took 1 episode for each character to explain and expand on them showing where they stand and how they have changed over the years. A big missed opportunity for Disney.
I tried to watch it twice and, as with all bad movies, I found myself doing other things around the house before long. Made it through about 15 minutes before I checked out.
Then you haven't seen the movie... It's a much more meditative, reflective overview of life, human history, and culture. A more somber and personal MCU movie which takes it's time moving through the experiences the Eternals have as opposed to quick cutting and brief dialogue to get to the action. It's so amazing how so many people saw the mediocre reviews and just decided to give it a 5% effort watch even though everyone sat through Endgame's padded out series of "remember this!?" About the "why didn't they interfere when Thanos..." Yeah, it's a big plothole, but I guess it is super common when you're Making a solo movie/comic about a greater scaled universe I grew up like: "Why aren't the X-men helping on this comic? Is it because it's not a mutant threat, so it's not their problem?" "Spider-man is fighting against a big crime organization in New York Why can't the Daredevil help? Because it's out of Hell's Kitchen, so he doesn't care?" Super hero bullshit The same goes for DC: "The Green Lanterns are fighting against an intergalactic monster in Space Where are Superman? Afraid of the Green color, which reminds him of Kryptonite?"
To me, those are very drastic circumstances. Half of the whole entire universe was as stake, and the eternals didn’t give a single fuck. I really can’t get past that fact without knowing that the eternals never existed in the mcu until their movie debut
This is the exact reason I hate share universes, it really feels like they just tried taking popular stories then jam them together because it'll be possible. Not to mention the power-creep makes so many characters obsolete.
Ant-man is like literally the only superhero in his movie who saw how big his threat was and was like "Why don't we call the Avengers?" Not that he needed to but at least he referenced them
I’m definitely down with Hollywood trying to incorporate more people with various disabilities/differences into movie roles…But why tf would celestials make an eternal with a hearing disability?🤨 Do they ever explain that?
The more they try to appeal to every audience, the worse the products get. At that point it feels entirely like a corporate product rather than a film with passion or, "effort" behind it. It's already a problem with mainstream communities such as LGBTQ, just inserting elements they would "like" without having any appeal. Best example I can put is Voltron Legendary Defenders, lots of shipping incorporated with LGBTQ, with absolutely zero payoff. And opinions are 100% valid.
@@Bodacious_Crustacious yeah that’s the main issue. Writers no longer create unique, interesting and complex characters, that *just happen to have* a “difference” that is naturally incorporated into the story… Now they just have a “diversity checklist” that they lazily hamfist into their movies. They no longer create well-rounded characters that happen to be “diverse”… They simply make bland, soulless NPCs, with out of place, lazy, pointless (or confusing, in this movie’s situation) superficial “differences”-just so it meets twitter’s brain-dead idea of “diversity”. I support *ACTUAL* diversity being incorporated into Hollywood movies…not the lazy, shallow and destructive version of “diversity” that is currently crushing all of pop culture.
She’s deaf in the comics so they kind of have to follow that. There’s a lot of inclusivity Hollywood does just to do it such as the new GoT having black people apart of a race known for being pale white, but in this case they had to follow the comic characters. If not then they would be getting shit on for not following the comics.
@@mythnk1204 George R R Martin is fine with the Velaryons being black, and besides I think it’s a pretty clever way for us to be able to distinguish between the targaryans and the velaryons (considering there are so many characters), while also being able to recognise they both come from old Valyria due to the shared features of abnormally white/silver hair. Regardless, black velaryons doesn’t detract from the plot so it doesn’t really matter, however having a deaf eternal doesn’t make much sense in terms of the lore.
@@Bodacious_Crustacious your comment implies that having diverse representation, e.g. having lgbt representation, automatically makes a product worse. Markari is supposed to be the Eternals version of the Roman God Mercury. So my question is why would the God of language and communication be deaf? Don't mean this in an ableist way, it's genuinely my question
@SpicyWeiner777 That doesn't explain why she became the God of Communication and Language lol. It seems a little ill thought out from the diety perspective. Like I would assume that each of the team members would pull in part from the Gods that they inspired in world mythology, like in Neil Gaiman's run of Eternals or Jack Kirby's original run. Tbh that angle was missing in most of the Eternals, I think Zhou might not have been interested in exploring superheroes as Gods and Gods as superheroes. To me, it wasn't a side that was prevalent
@@captainawesome0711 The idea was probably that she delivers messages. Communication doesn't need to be spoken, and I've always seen Hermes as more of a mailman or courier than a human (god?) telephone.
@@darksev.6468 My idea was that Merkari brought the gift of written language to humanity, in a bit more of a Thoth aspect. To me, it doesn't make as much sense to have that God be deaf as they would need to be able to communicate with people verbally to explain the symbols. Granted, I might be reading too much into the character's role. But given the point in time that they arrived, its not too far off of a guess. My idea is that Merkari is like Hermes Trismagistus as a superhero
I liked what the movie means for the infinity saga on the whole. It means that thanos actually was right and that he was saving the entirety of the universe for an extended period of time before the celestials were born.
Except they were only in _some_ planets, and only ones that eventually evolved intelligent life. And he killed half of _all_ life. Accidentally helping in some situations doesn't mean he was right
@@marsbars6869 that's not true at all, He's an eternal along with his brother. His parents had the same job that the eternals in the movie do but decided to stand against the celestials. It stands to reason that titan would have had a celestial in it and his parents definitely would have known about it at one point. He literally says "I am the ONLY one that knows." when responding to Gamora when she said he didn't know that overpopulation would lead to planetary destruction. Him and his brother are the only survivors of titans destruction and while he may not have known (which i think he did) directly about celestials he definitely knew that planets with massive populations were doomed more often than not.
@@bloodyneptune there was no way of him knowing what specific planets had celestials in them or what kind of life would lead to the birth of one (unless his parents told him) so a blanket fix was the easiest solution for him.
I think some of the historical inaccuracies can be supported by “oh the Eternals brought that stuff to these ancient civilizations”. It’s not too farfetched imo, since they do help them create tools and things for the civilizations
i hate that trope you can't both say humans are livestock for a celestial, helped along by all-powerful aliens and also pretty much the most important species in the universe, considering wanda is the nexus being, stephen is the sorceror supreme and they have some universal level entities (at least in the comics)
I'm not a fan of giving inventions to humans because it discredit everything humans made. Someone had to think about the wheel or the steam engine. Maybe by accident, maybe by trial and error. Nah, didn't happen. A god just gave it to us. No one ever accomplished anything :/
The environmental and geological impact of a giant thing coming out of the earth’s core is completely ignored for the sake of yet another apocalyptic threat
I wish that Ikarus took Sprite with when he flew into the sun. Halfway through the movie she got very annoying and he was annoying the whole time. I can see why she wanted to be with him they're perfect for eachother.
From what I remember, her character has a crush on his character (and since she looks like a child, this won't work out as a relationship) so this makes her jealous not just of everyone else being an adult, but other people being able to date Ikarus, put those two together and you get an annoying, jealous brat who won't shut up.
This should have been a TV show, IMO. Have it be an adaptation of the Neil Gaiman miniseries (which I recommend) and have each episode focus on one specific Eternal. The cast for the movie was way too big for a two hour run time and I think a tv show could have played more into Chloé Zhao’s strengths.
Sprites whole age conflict could literally be solved by a fake ID. Random - "You're not an adult" Sprite - "Here is my driver's license" Random "oh okay here's a beer"
Sersei was such a boring character! I really didn't have any emotion toward any character. I thought the movie meandered too much, but once I saw the ending, that's truly when I realized this movie was sh*t. I know these are fantasy movies, but omg, the Celestial emerging from the Earth's crust, something that would've triggered the next extinction was ridiculous! lol Something about Marvel films still felt grounded in some sort of reality, hard to describe really, but once I saw the end, I just rolled my eyes and gave up. 😅 Now in every future MCU film we have to see a big frozen hand jutting out into our atmosphere.
I saw a video right here on UA-cam called "Dear Marvel, Please Stop Trying to End the World." They basically pointed out how in every movie where the plot is "Everyone on Earth will die," you automatically know they won't. I was like "THANK YOU" . Footnote: The frozen hand will probably just be an easter egg in the background, what I'm looking forward to in future MCU movies is how everyone reacted to Arishem popping up. EVERYONE saw that. You just know SOMEBODY got that on their phone, and watch it end up going viral lol
Thinking about the emotions thing, it would've been better if they used the comics origin for the Eternals: Genetically Engineered "Humans"; In the comics, as godly as both Deviants and Eternals might look, they all "evolved" along with humanity, in fact they're cousins to humans and compatible enough to have children, that's why they also aren't completely controlled by the Celestials (Although their bodies as "coded" to follow certain rules, and if an Eternal breaks said rules the body starts to die or just feel immense pain) The problem with this is: There wouldn't be a reason for Eternals to only have certain powers. In the comics all Eternals have the exact same powers, they're just way more talented at certain aspects of these powers (Sprite can deceive anyone, Sersi can transmutate all, Ikaris can punch you real good)
Honestly same, I kinda liked Eternals even if it was weird sometimes, it's was just a good movie not a super sensation of the year. So I don't get why a lot of people are so mad about it, really I'd rather rewatched Eternals again than some boring ass Thor 2 or underwhelming Spider Man 2
I found really funny how Jon Snow keept asking Sersi to transform him into giraffe (because in greek mythology she used to transform people into animals). In the movie she thought she cannot transform living things and only learned that she can do that later. So it was a funny foreshadowing.
I think the confusion of why the Eternals not getting involved any other time is just the filmmakers trying to come up with the best logic/excuses they can when introducing new characters they just decided to bring into the universes
Karun’s actor plays a character named Raj in the movie adaptation of David Walliams’ books and he is perfect. The main reason I watch them is to watch Raj have fun.
If only this was a 2 season show. Shoving this many characters down our throats in only a span of 3 hours or so is just annoying.

@@nickobeazo oh most def. I feel like MK would work either way but receiving it in show form gives us much more than a 2 hour movie

Not one interesting character among them. The movie is hot garbage. A high budget Marvel movie with low Budget Heroes no one gives a wet f*ck about it.

to be fair ego wasn't a celestial in the comics either
Ego also wasn’t trying to birth a new celestial.

My biggest gripe with the Eternals is
Why aren't all Eternals made exactly like Icarus?
Thena... drop the A.

The celestials are dumb, if there all powerful god's. But can't make a useful eternal.

That mixed with the fact that sprite (13ish) is in love with Icarus (25-30ish) is just so weird and out of place
@@StarboyJuno That's a bit SUSSY...
Honestly my biggest issue with this movie is them not letting humans die. After thousands of planets had been destroyed what makes humans so special?
Lots of people have a sexual attraction towards other people with absolutely ZERO desire to procreate. Sex is fun.
The story of the Eternals sounds epic asf! This is my first time ever hearing this. The movie itself may be "bad" but listening to how you described the storyline made me 🤯.
I loved it!
I saw this movie with my mother, and I asked her if she liked the movie.
And the one thing she had to say about it was that she didn't understand why everyone was into Circe, and saying that she was a: "Nothing of a girl."
Which I translated to meaning that she was a self insert Marry Sue.
It's funny because she actually HAS a character that's fun in the comics.
It's just that it doesn't fit "The Disney image" of a heroine...🤦♀️
i rlly hate the whole “mary sue” descriptor when it comes to most characters, but i gotta agree with ur mom, circe has like literally nothing going on for her

Some things are definitely questionable but I definitely would put it lower on a MCU tier list, I don't think I can handle watching it a second time, watching it once is more than enough for me
My opinion exactly. Just that I didn't even get to the sun flying part. I stopped watching because I fell asleep. Shitty movie
Well. You're wrong.

The only thing i liked about this movies is the setup for Black Knight and Blade just for the Blade movie
I can’t stand Kit Harrington tbh after Game of Thrones and Spooks - I realised he just plays Bland, emotionless, confused characters. Not a bad actor but that’s like his only thing.
Everyone in the audience didn't even know who any of those two where and they were confused when they saw the credit scenes 😭😭😭

Especially in that movie oh God.
The movie felt eternal that's all I can say about the film, nothing more needed to be said. It was a boring, dull crap.
Dear Lord yes! If this was a Disney + show with a movie 6 months later people would have liked it a lot more!
Maybe, they’re still boring
All of their costumes look like those cheap 2D printed patterns that are sold as Halloween outfits for kids.
If only the red celestial guy kept his mouth shut about the true plan, then it would have succeeded.
Having a deaf eternal was so stupid lol, it's obviously did it just for the sake of "representation", But it makes absolutely zero sense narratively 🤦🏻♂️
Celestial: "let us create a deaf Eternal and see what happens lol"
also being deaf kinda hinders combat abilities but I'm no Eternal so I cant really speak
I h a t e d that, it makes 0 sense for the eternal to have any disabilities and she was clearly just put in there for representation even though her ability basically allows her to "hear" anyway
Representation is good but when it makes zero sense it's pointless, like a live action Pocahontas with a Japanese character

Fun fact: in the Jon Snow post credit scene, the "mysterious man" who says 'are you sure youre ready for that' was Mahershala Ali, aka Blade

It's so amazing how so many people saw the mediocre reviews and just decided to give it a 5% effort watch even though everyone sat through Endgame's padded out series of "remember this!?" Is it because it's not a mutant threat, so it's not their problem?"
"Spider-man is fighting against a big crime organization in New York
Why can't the Daredevil help?
Because it's out of Hell's Kitchen, so he doesn't care?"
Super hero bullshit
The same goes for DC:
"The Green Lanterns are fighting against an intergalactic monster in Space
Where are Superman?
Afraid of the Green color, which reminds him of Kryptonite?"
To me, those are very drastic circumstances. Half of the whole entire universe was as stake, and the eternals didn’t give a single fuck. I really can’t get past that fact without knowing that the eternals never existed in the mcu until their movie debut
This is the exact reason I hate share universes, it really feels like they just tried taking popular stories then jam them together because it'll be possible. Not to mention the power-creep makes so many characters obsolete.

Writers no longer create unique, interesting and complex characters, that *just happen to have* a “difference” that is naturally incorporated into the story…
Now they just have a “diversity checklist” that they lazily hamfist into their movies.
They no longer create well-rounded characters that happen to be “diverse”…
They simply make bland, soulless NPCs, with out of place, lazy, pointless (or confusing, in this movie’s situation) superficial “differences”-just so it meets twitter’s brain-dead idea of “diversity”.

Thinking about the emotions thing, it would've been better if they used the comics origin for the Eternals: Genetically Engineered "Humans"; In the comics, as godly as both Deviants and Eternals might look, they all "evolved" along with humanity, in fact they're cousins to humans and compatible enough to have children, that's why they also aren't completely controlled by the Celestials (Although their bodies as "coded" to follow certain rules, and if an Eternal breaks said rules the body starts to die or just feel immense pain)
The problem with this is: There wouldn't be a reason for Eternals to only have certain powers. In the comics all Eternals have the exact same powers, they're just way more talented at certain aspects of these powers (Sprite can deceive anyone, Sersi can transmutate all, Ikaris can punch you real good)

I found really funny how Jon Snow keept asking Sersi to transform him into giraffe (because in greek mythology she used to transform people into animals). In the movie she thought she cannot transform living things and only learned that she can do that later. So it was a funny foreshadowing.
The only thing I took away from this movie is my goodness Angelina was so freakin gorgeous in this movie! I wish she had more lines lol
I think the confusion of why the Eternals not getting involved any other time is just the filmmakers trying to come up with the best logic/excuses they can when introducing new characters they just decided to bring into the universes
