    Spoilers:
I definitely agree with the rubble bit you mentioned. They should not be getting killed by falling rocks when they can take hits from laser beams and a million other stronger projectiles. Although Wanda’s “death” was left pretty ambiguous and I doubt she’s dead, even Elizabeth Olsen said so as well.
As for the end of Wanda’s arc in the movie, I was actually very happy with how they did it. I wouldn’t have accepted anyone defeating her in battle because they’ve depicted her as just too powerful. When she is rejected by her kids and called a monster, only to be reassured by her alternate self that she possessed, I thought that resonated emotionally enough to make her stop her rampage. Idk it’s kinda hard what else they could’ve done to wrap up her arc.

@Damian Thomas Knight Wayne for black panther and moonknight they were both in pocket dimensions designated for the after life for the religion the personal takes on.
Thanos was just chillin in the soul dimension where the sacrificed souls/souls that were claimed during the snap were stored, Thanos was actually snapped away technically but he survived because the soul stone revived him.
But the only way connection so far is that Khonshu is siblings with the Panther goddess, and Jake Lockley is in New York. They have a Blade movie coming up and I strongly believe Moonknight will be in it, or at least will tease it, I believe there’s talk of a Midnight Suns projecting going on which will include Moonknight, ghost rider, punisher, and the black night. I am truly excited for this side of the MCU because they specialize in brutal combat and vampires, werewolf’s, and demons

I knew nothing about Moon Knight coming into the show, and it's clear that I was the intended audience for it. The complete mystery about what's going on with funny British man made it intensely interesting to me. If I'd known all about the character already, I can see how those first few episodes may have been harder to get through. However, as a show establishing a reasonably unknown character to the audience, I think it did a fantastic job.

I liked Moon Knight, however as somebody who has read *almost* every single Moon Knight comic I just wish we got to see more Moon Knight being Moon Knight. MOM needed more than twenty minutes tbh:
-An extended Strange v Strange fight would've been nice
-More development on America Chavez's backstory
      -More universe hopping
-An explanation as to how Wanda actually came to find America Chavez and decide to kill her
-Wanda using more of those demons (seriously, these things are brawling with sorcerer supreme(s) and travel across universes, she shouldn't just stop using them).
-A waaayyy longer battle with the Illuminati, or at least a more impactful one. Or maybe just cut them out entirely? The Illuminati were pretty much just trailer bait and rumor hype, they did *nothing* other than exist.

DS:MOM was around 40 minutes longer, not just 20 minutes in one cut. I wished they didn't cut it down because it could've helped flesh out Stephen and Wanda's arc more organically, helped explain certain plot devices and MacGuffins like the Book of Vishanti and Darkhold better, and a longer Illuminati battle because while I liked the scene itself where they die in over-the-top ways, I think the team should've put on more of a fight.

Moon Knight was pissing me off.. So much potential, yet filled with plot holes. Just to list a few:
Why did Layla bring the scarab directly to Harrow and his crew? There was litterally no reason to do this and it causes the events of the entire series, and they never even acknowledge that she indirectly cause the deaths of thousands.
The whole trial against Harrow is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. They do ZERO preparation and just walk in there expecting the gods to take them at their word. And even though Ammit proves to be an absolutely insane threat (one that can oneshot all 5 gods for some reason later on with just a "sliver of her power") the gods don't even check up on it. It's not like it's actually hard to check up on Konshu's claims that Harrow wants to bring back Ammit. If it's this serious, at least just have someone follow him for a bit. Why did Konshu have to get their attention by pissing them off? Makes little sense that this is the only way. It's an obvious plot device just to have Konshu mess with the night sky later in the episode and have him imprisoned. That entire episode was super dumb.
Near the end Harrow goes in and just oneshots all the avatars of the gods with the staff containing just a tiny bit of Ammit's power as mentioned earlier. Yet these gods were able to imprison Konshu without even being near him, showing an insane amount of power. And when Konshu is free'd, Layla and Marc are able to defeat Harrow despite Ammit being free at this point and being her actual avatar which I would assume should give him WAY more power. So thinking about this for more than 2 seconds:
The 5 god avatars can easily defeat Konshu, really a non-issue.
Harrow can oneshot the 5 god avatars, with just a small amount of his power at the end, really a non-issue.
Marc and Layla can defeat a super empowered version of Harrow (the guy that just easily won against the 5 god avatars that defeated Konshu with ease, which is where Marc gets his powers).
Anyone with more than 1 brain cell can see that this just makes no sense.
Why and how did Konshu grow to be as big as Ammit for their final fight? And why can Ammit even manifest in the real world when they've shown earlier that they can't do that? They clearly impact the pyramids by falling on them, yet they show earlier that all Konshu in the real world can do is make the wind blow a little bit. If this is all something that their non-avatars can't see, then why can Layla see Konshu and Ammit at the end? They've established that you can only see these gods when your their avatar, which is why Harrow can't see Konshu earlier in the series. Yet for some dumb reason Konshu can talk directly with Harrow later on in the post-credit scene at the last episode. If it's because ALL avatars can see ALL gods, they need to establish this in some way.
At the end when Marc refuses to kill Harrow and compares Konshu to Ammit when Konshu tells Marc to kill them is so stupid. He litterally compares Konshu to Ammit saying "You sound just like her now", but he clearly doesn't Ammit's whole thing was killing people BEFORE they had done bad stuff. Harrow and Ammit have litterally just killed thousands and have proven to be very hard to stop. Why would you risk letting billions of people die by sparing this one psycho and his goddess? The logic is SO flawed and it's as if the writer had zoned out during their own description of Ammit throughout the show. It's meant to show that he has some sort of moral, but it's shown in the worst way and just makes him seem selfish for not wanting to make the sacrifice needed to keep the world safe.
There's probably more that I'm missing but due to ALL of these plot holes, the series just annoyed me. Especially because it's meant to be a twist that Marc is the original and Steven is the fake one. But if your story is filled with this many holes and you only make this clear 5 weeks into the series, I'm just left thinking "How the actual fuck can Steven have another person live an entire life, with a wife, a career etc. etc. along side of him, without him being more aware and actually 100% certain that this is a thing". It makes sense once they explain the Steven isn't the original, but at that point it's just too late. You can't have a twist like that if your story is so dumb that the viewer starts to question if that's really what you're going with. And I wouldn't have been surprised if that's what they went with, considering how much else that didn't make sense in the show.
I wish Hollywood would just hire people to proof read their scripts... Because it's getting really ridiculous how many big budget movies and series that are just littered with holes.

my biggest gripe with moon knight is that it absolutely needed to be longer. and I'd even keep the pacing of like the first 5 episodes, I liked the buildup (and my mom didn't know who the character was or anything about him, and she was very into finding that out not all at once). plus I'm totally cool with things like this starting off slower if that time is used towards character development/establishment and then the payoff later once it really picks up is done well (case in point, daredevil s3 starts off very slow, but what's going on with matt is very interesting and important and it definitely pays off, it needed to be slow). so like if it was 10 episodes (or 9 like wandavision), by 5 you have all of that information and his full origin story, and the entire rest of the time have him be full on ass kicking moon knight. but as it is, they finish fully establishing the character and then are just like "and we're at the end! big fight! and we're done." you don't get enough time to enjoy the character once that part is done.

I’m pretty mixed on it. I personally think it’s one of the worst plots in the MCU. I thought the pacing was dogass due to the first hour and a half of the movie was basically just people explaining the plot and exposition to eachother.
But I loved all of the little horror elements in it. I liked the brutality. But I also thought that what they did to Wanda’s character in this movie is pretty egregious. She had a cool character arc in Wandavision that they erased completely in order to make her spooky
I also think that we got such a lame showcase of spells from doctor strange. Besides the music scene, we didn’t really get any interesting spells from doctor strange like we did in Infinity War

I get this version of her is stubborn like Steve was, but neither of them are stupid. Oh also, Wanda, at any power level, isn't beating Xavier in a battle of the mind. The fifth episode was by far the best, I agree with that with the emotional depth and bond Marc and Steven gain. I hope for a second season or at least a full movie taking place after this.
For Doctor Strange 2, I loved the movie a lot personally. My expectations weren’t too high and I guess that was a good thing. I personally loved how Wanda’s arc ended with her being rejected and called a monster by alternate Wanda’s kids. I felt that’s the only way she could have really took a second thought and perspective and realized what she was doing. It’s obvious they couldn’t beat her so I’m satisfied with her arc ending that particular way. I definitely agree that the directing and cinematography were the best parts of the film. It was phenomenal and really made you feel what the characters were going through and what they were thinking. I honestly never realized how brutal the movie was until you pointed it out. My only thing is, why was it so clearly not designed to be an mcu movie… that used (and killed) marvel characters? And was marketed as a marvel movie? Like was it supposed to be dark? Sure. Going into the movie I expected darkness because someone I went with got that message and I trusted them to know, but yeah I think that while their communication was good, it could have been better. Even looking back at the trailer, things looked like there would be more tension in Wanda's transformation into the villain, for example. And the illuminati was kind of that bass-drop "sike this is what the movie's *really* about" moment (think Morbius trailer (it hurts to use that as a good example of everything but it conveys what I mean about the tone switch)) from what I could tell. Honestly I thought the evil "getting out of hand" alternate strange would be closer to the main villain than anyone. My point is the trailers made it look like a tense, character-driven action-adventure movie that thrusts us into a new environment. The movie was a horror with some new scenery and cameos that, tbh, only served to give Raimi something to work with when it comes to his specialty.

There are two glaring problems with the movie. The first being the writing, second being the marketing. The pacing of the script was garbage, and the story itself was convoluted as hell. It was a classic MCU spectacle over substance film.
As for the marketing, you said yourself it was marketed to be one of the most insanely epic marvel movies ever made. That was never what the movie was intended to be. Such a classic bait and switch has never been seen since the likes of Kangaroo Jack.
Unfortunately, I think this might end up being the new normal. Disney knows existing MCU fans are already going to watch their movies. Now they're trying to bring in a new audience. They'll get Chloe Zhao to direct Eternals in an effort to grab film festival goers, or get Sam Raimi as an attempt to cash in on his die hard fan base. Both did a good job at directing their respective movies, but were given absolutely terrible scripts to work with. As someone that knew nothing of Moon Knight going in I thought episode 1 was masterful. The story felt so mysterious and Oscar Isaac is brilliant. That time he orders a steak despite being vegan out of sheer heartbreak is amazing. Then imo the show drags in eps 3 and 4 (I think the audience with Harrow in ep 3 is really stupid), but episode 5 is incredible (with a fantastic performance from Isaac) and 6 is a good finale for the season. I feel like the mystery really helped and 100% agree on the fight scenes being kind of meh until the finale.
Regarding Doctor Strange, I thought it was pretty good. My issue was how it at times felt like a Raimi movie and a more standard Marvel movie were fighting to take over (kinda like Marc and Steven) without fully committing to either tone. Its scary, but so comedic that it makes a lot of the scary stuff less scary. Elisabeth Olsen is fantastic tho, I really like what they do with Wanda in the movie, maybe the end part is kind of meh, but overall she is sick as hell and its a great way to follow up Wandavision.

Sam Raimi's direction style is horror comedy, not full-on grim horror. You could argue that there were parts that where more familiar to the rest of the MCU, but the comedy being with the horror is not necessarily an MCU influence.

One of my two biggest gripes in movie writing is when the MacGuffin that is "needed" to "win" (whatever those terms are for the movie) and is instantly destroyed/removed when obtained and rendered unneeded but the heroes find out they didn't need it after all. It makes me feel like the entire story up until that point is just useless. The other is when characters repeat the same character growth story again (Like Fin in The Last Jedi) only to end up at the exact same place. Doctor Strange 2 managed to nail both of those in a little over 2 hours.
Wanda apparently learned nothing from WandaVision when she realized she was the villain for holding an entire town hostage to run away from her grief. She does the exact same thing in this movie, only with herself this time. And comes to the exact same realization, even with having to let go of her kids. Again. Sure, you could say "the Dark Hold is eeeeviiilll and corrupted her", but why? What would be Chthon's goal here? Have Scarlet Witch rule her universe and what? Release himself? None of this is explained. Just the generic "evil book makes you do evil things with no explanation" story.
The entire adventure in the "multiverse" could have been replaced with a romp through the normal universe seeing as the interactions with alternate selves is limited to Doctor Strange v. Evil Doctor Strange or Evil Wanda v. Mom Wanda. There was a potential for characters to grow from an alternate perspective into their own life, but it was left for just a couple of fights. Wanda just repeated the same lesson of "oh goodness, I'm a monster. I gotta do better".
I dunno, I felt like Disney stifled Raimi because they were unsure of a real horror Marvel movie. It felt like 1/3 Raimi and 2/3rds Disney MCU formula. They should have let him have the R-rated horror movie that he clearly wanted to make. I hope they let him direct again and give him some more freedom. It was a very fun movie to watch, even with the messy or disappointing story beats.

Wanda regresses as a character and then they drop a building on her. It’s the same shit they did with Jamie Lannisters character in GOT.
I’m really shocked that people like this movie as much as they do because the narrative and writing blows shit. I almost fell asleep due to the fact that the first hour and a half of this movie is just people explaining the plot and exposition to eachother.
At least the visuals and the horror themed stuff were really cool. If those weren’t as good then I’d consider this a bottom 3 MCU movie

All the learning and grieving she got was completely gone, and I know shes supposed to be corrupt because of the darkholde or whatever but still. Also, no vision? In any universe whatsoever?, The one thing Wanda wants the most it’s supposed to be a family, but in this movie she only cares about her children and her children alone. But still, I did enjoy the movie, however I don’t see how Wanda can be redeemed after this.

After all she has done, I don't think she is redeemable, and that's kind of the point. I personally didn't think she was all that redeemable even after WandaVision, so her being the antagonist here feels like the next step for her arc.

    My thoughts on multiverse
    Positives:
this one definitely has a soul and you can tell an actual director is behind it.
The magic was done really well and actually feels magical. Opposed to the first film where character were pretty much punching each other with magic knifes. Also I like the new backstory for Strange that when he was a kid his sister drowned and he was unable to save her on a frozen lake. Which leads him to cope with the loss by thinking sacrifices are inevitable and lead to better outcomes. She needed to die so Strange would become inspired to save people as a surgeon leading to him becoming temporary Sorcerer supreme thus lifting the guilt that he ever could’ve saved her, cause it “needed to happen”. Which is in line with his views on sacrifice in Infinity war, Endgame, No way home, and variants of himself in Multiverse of madness.
The music and editing was also phenomenal
    Negatives:
Wanda’s entire ark and role in this movie was done horribly. She comes into this story right after WandaVision a 9 episode show about Wanda realizing she can’t live out a fantasy with her family because she’s hurting people in the process leading to a tearful goodbye between her and her kids. Then in this movie she does the same damn thing but worse. Wanda wants to live out a fantasy with her family and is killing and willing to kill countless people in the process until she realizes it’s wrong and has a tearful goodbye with her kids. YOU CANT MAKE ME FEEL THE SAME THING TWICE IN THE SAME SPECIFIC SITUATION.
Dorks will say “she was corrupted by the dark hold in the post credit scene” but a 30 second post credit scene undoing a 9 episode character ark isn’t a good excuse. Hell I think you could argue the post credit scene was leading to something else. All she hears is her kids screaming somewhere in the cosmos which would’ve been a way more interesting role for her in the story. With Wanda believing somewhere her kids not only exist but are in danger and everyone including strange telling her she’s crazy to fuel her anger.
As for fan expectations I think most unsatisfied people are justified. Marvel knew what they were doing when they marketed this movie to be the craziest culmination of everything build up in Wandavision, Loki, and No way Home. Keep in mind those were the projects where the strongest witch rewrote reality, characters explored various interesting alternate realities meeting unique versions of themselves along the way then ending with a multiversal war, and then in No way home the prequel to this where they brought back all of Spider-Man’s previous villains from other marvel franchises along with Maquire and Garfield. And once again for them to market this as the even Crazier movie how was it not gonna let people down when this one felt less like the build up of three multiversal projects and more like marvel dipping their toes in the water and trying a multiverse movie.
Like just think how weird and insane they could’ve gone with this movie (and I’m not talking cameos) since any insane irreversible act could be undone under the umbrella of “the multiverse is weird”.
Also for the mostly nonexistent cameos I think a lot of them were dumb speculation but No way home really made people think anyone showing up was possibility. Though I will say putting every cool cameo in the trailers like prof X really lead to no other reaction than people thinking “if they’re willing to put prof X in the trailer that must mean there’s even crazier people in the movie” I mean when you go to a restaurant that claims it’s the greatest place in the world and the waiter hands you a bread basket for the table you don’t think “this is the whole meal huh”. But in this case it was.
While this might seem overall negative I would take this film any day over almost all mcu movies 6.5/10

    • @cube7439
      @cube7439 2 роки тому +5

I had a few gripes too.
For one, the MacGuffin book of Vishanti that Dr. Strange needs to go head to head with Wanda and her Darkhold? Destroyed in seconds after its been built up to for half the movie. Dr. Strange is the biggest threat to the multiverse because he's willing to break all the rules? He ends up using the Darkhold anyways. Wanda is a threat to the universe and she does use 2 cool monsters in the beginning, including one that kills Defender Stranger almost immediately, but after that for the most part she only uses her usual chaos magic balls. The arc Strange has about loving Christine ends weirdly with the alternate Christine telling him not to be afraid. The Illuminati also felt wasted, because they dismiss Wanda immediately and are there only to get cannon foddered and tell Strange he's dangerous. Why not have them be an authority on the multiverse and tell us more about it? "The multiverse is a concept about which we know frightenly little." Yeah, and we still don't know jack shit after the movie. I think the trailer went too hard and I went in with expectations too high.

    • @hunterbassler
      @hunterbassler 2 роки тому +7

I 100% agree with your take on Wanda’s story being done horribly. Another point to add to yours is Wanda’s trauma in WandaVision stemmed from her loss of Vision by her own hand. The kids were the byproduct and result of the “perfect life” she envisioned for her and vision. Here they make the central focus of why she’s broken on the kids and only give vision like 2 mentions in the whole movie. Makes the whole thing feel entirely manufactured to get her out of the MCU and give Strange a third eye to play with.
On manufactured plot, Steven’s whole central conflict this movie is getting over Christine, even tho that’s literally never been a problem for him before??? We only hear about Christine during the first DS movie and never hear about her again until this one (other than the What If episode). This strange has wholly moved on from Christine, but the plot still revolves around other strange’s and Christine’s telling him it’d never work out. That even becomes more ridiculous when the plot of the first movie revolves around strange learning to be selfless.
The plot of this movie just felt entirely manufactured. The Rami bits were by far the best parts, but the substance surrounding them was hollow.

You summed up how I feel about Wanda perfectly! This movie feels like it negated all of the development she received in WandaVision. Her grief and acceptance means nothing so they can play the “hysterical” woman trope. It also kind of sucks that 2/3 of the avengers women died due to suicide. (Although I doubt that’s the last we see of Wanda, the sentiment still remains.) The visuals were great though and it was cool to see what she was capable of, the choice just felt a little cheap.

There are things about the movie that I liked, and things I didn’t like. And the cool thing is that different people like or dislike different parts of the movie. It’s refreshing to have an MCU movie that’s different and that people can have a wide range of opinions on other than “it’s amazing” or “it sucks.” I think that’s what a lot of people don’t realize. They can like a movie without it being the best movie ever, and just because a movie has problems doesn’t mean I have make a choice between hating it or ignoring the problems and saying it’s amazing. Which, for the people who prefer the light-hearted, funny side of marvel (Ant-man, Spider-man, Thor) probably wouldn't enjoy as much. I personally feel as if the writers are starting to take the emotional aspect of it all more seriously, like they're starting to scrap the overly used comdey bits, and really focus on the mental and emotional depth of these characters, which are most obviously displayed in Wanda and Marc's character through WandaVision (and some of DSITMOM) and Moon Knight*

The problem is that this film ruined the emotional depth, character and story development that was setup in WandaVision. They literally ruined Wanda's character and her arc falls so incredibly flat. She has the exact same motivations as in WandaVision so it is as if she learned nothing from her prior experiences. She doesn't feel like remotely the same character and imo having an evil book do that is just lazy writing. This movie has Wanda as a zombie rather than an emotional or real character. However, Strange and Christine had some excellent emotional beats and those parts of the film made them feel like real people, like when they discuss whether they are actually happy.
