      Why we call it fantasy we drive for the fantasy to become our reality that's what drives us to push ourselves past the limits and show what true potential is we can do this.......time doesn't have to be the wall stopping us its to effort and technology we have now to be the stepping stones to get us on the right path towards it
      Yes it may be far reach dream but its never stop us as people to stop trying we never give up cause we know its possible we just have to find it

      Yea really hope for that fantasy to come. Too bad reality hits you and you quickly realise that nothing can changed. Suddenly the thought that our lives will be mediocre until our last day. Keeping dreaming is the only thing pushing us forward even though we know it's pointless.

    I can't believe it's been eight years since that first video. I remember when I first came across it, back when I was a massive SAO fanboy. While I'm not the SAO fan now that I was back then, I still appreciate the story for its vision of what gaming can be.

      It's truly been an amazing journey getting here 😅. I actually kind of find it amazing that no other series has captured the balance of IRL-VR Gaming to quite the same degree as SAO has in all these years. I'm in the same boat where I've lot a lot of the shine for SAO that I used to have, but artistically, I can't help but respect it's accomplishment on capturing that vision you mentioned so well. Barring Mushoku Tensei this past year, very few "isekai" series really pay attention to the MC's previous life or world to the same degree as SAO, barring maybe Gate, which does so from a more broad, societal angle, and Mushoku Tensei, which does so in a more zero'd in manner regarding individual characters rather than targeting broader strokes. Always glad to see you around though phoenixfireblazer!

      @@VirtualDreamers Always great to see you posting again!
      I totally get what you mean about Isekai ignoring the MC's past life. It's an oversight that makes a show being a Isekai redudant really and misses so many opportunities to make the genre as a whole so much more interesting. It's usually just an excuse for the MC to know things that make them better than everyone else.

    I agree with SAO celebration stand point, I was severely bummed the ONLY celebration was the Mobile game and the small Ex Chronicle Demo. ( I did buy the Avatar assets Admittedly) Past that point regardless of how much we wanted SAO today I am bummed just as much as the next person but I fully believe we don't turn around and give up that dream. Even the Issekai genre has grown to be the most popular today so it just goes to show that even it's not SAO we still have the whisked away to another world dream.
    Another point is I mean....the fact we can even have something like Neuralink in our current age lifetime is a feat in of its own.

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  2 роки тому +4

      I'm there with you on the disappointment with how the SAO franchise is celebrating the year of 2022. I've still got a tiny hope for something out of SAO for the PSVR2, but I'm not even holding my breath for that tech to release this year. After my experiences working on my game and seeing just what we can do with VR chat and even the Quest 2 hardware, I'm less and less worried about SAO type games needing to be developed by major developers. While my second commercial project probably won't be an SAO type game yet (I've got a Minecraft type game on my crosshairs first), I think it would be fair to contribute to or modify some of the existing works by the community to make a form of celebration on that day instead.
      Imagining where VR and tech will be even just 10 years from now is has me trembling in excitement. We're so fortunate to exist in an era where things are advancing as much as they are and to have the opportunities to make the differences for ourselves. While I don't know if I'd be first in line to get something like Neuralink implanted for myself (I've got some other things I want to try first), it really says a lot about just how far we've come that casual brain surgery is even a concept up for discussion😅

      I actually did a video on the OASIS back in 2020. I might touch on the topic again, though I think I'd approach a series on a OASIS very different to this one considering just HOW close we are to it. VR Chat very much is a close approximation to the idea of the OASIS (which itself is just a form of Metaverse), with the only limitations really being just the standard of hardware power.
      I do intend to cover a lot more franchises on this channel soon though. Dot Hack is on my radar for being long overdue for a video and game reviews will soon become a thing on here as well.

    I always look forward to these videos. It was Sword Art Online that started my passion for virtual reality (as I am sure it did for many others). I got to SAO a little late, but it just so happened to coincide with Palmer Luckey forming Oculus. My excitement went through the roof! In that moment I had seen a world of my dreams, a virtual reality where anything was possible. And as I chased it, hungry to see if it was possible, I find the start of a road to that ultimate goal being laid out before my very eyes. Next thing I knew I was up late browsing EEG headsets, haptics, prosthetics and our understanding of the human brain. One of my driving desires is to live long enough to see Full Dive VR - or some form of it close enough that the difference is negligible.
    So keep up the good work, man! We may be decades away from where we want to be, but it's gonna be one hell of a journey and I am here for the ride. Who knows? Maybe in years to come our early headsets will become... Touch stones. Knicknacks and curios of the past. A sign of where things began. Like owning an old Atari or NES, people will point to them and say "See how far we've come? Can you believe people used to dive into VR with that?"

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  2 роки тому +1

      It's truly been an incredible ride to see the rise of VR from those early days. I already treat my old DK2 a bit like my old Nintendo 64 or even my Nintendo Wii nowadays. VR is only just beginning it's own journey to prominence, probably not unlike the way gaming had to back in the day. We're a long ways away from the days where people would make fun of you for playing games in school, but ironically are now dealing with the brunt of people making fun of people for being interested in VR and the metaverse😂. Some things just never change 😅. Alas, when our generation get's to become the start of the next core of major culture makers like the current rising stars in gaming media, we'll just have a laugh at the process that it took to get to that point.
      Cheers to enjoying the wild ride that will be the rise of VR to prominence Mark Wood 😎👍

    one thing to notice: the quality of game graphics has improved greatly, from 2D to 3D. even body tracking for VR games has gotten better, and will continue as time moves on. Can a VR version of SAO be created: yes, server storage may be the biggest issue if creating the world(s) based off the anime(ALO, GGO, Aincrad). if haptic tech were more affordable, the immersion experience would be great. Zenith looks kool, but a little clunky, combine a gaming experience of Beat Saber, VR Chat, and Genshin Impact, and a SAO-type game would break records like you wouldn't believe. Even AR type games could have a chance to shine given someone is willing to take up the challenge. i don't know of any VR arcades here in the US, but if there is, it would be worth checking them out on how to manage any difficulties next-gen VR games might have.

    I hope that during November 6th maybe you should host a SAO-VRC meetup? While it's certainly a longs way off, getting a community together and being with eachother and populating the floors we've dreamed of for 10 years, the world that was created all the way back in 2002 in the mind of a failed Author.

      I've definitely got a format and style I'm trying to polish out for the videos. I'm glad the musical choice came through well here since I think I managed to have it communicate the emotions I was presenting even better than usual here (then again, I was a lot more emotional in this video than usual in the first place 😅).
      I'll probably do exactly what you mentioned there James for November 6th when that time comes. I did a few VR chat meet ups back around 2018, 2019, and 2020 when I was more heavily active on the channel and the World Seed Project was still alive, but haven't done so again in a while since then (haven't been on here or online much at all for close to a year for that matter actually). Our technological advancement is growing exponentially, I am very sure that within the next 10 years, we will achieve full dive. In 1903, NY times said that human won't be able to fly for 1-10 million years, few months later, first human flight was conducted.
    But at least, we wanna see the game itself first, it doesn't have to be full dive but it has to be the real mmorpg game named SAO (i.e. 100 aincrad level, monster, bosses etc etc). I think this would be the first stepping stone since creating this complex rpg game, even non VR (like on pc or console) would be a very hard work.

    • @privateincognita71
      @privateincognita71 2 роки тому

      but I did not mean it is that hard. You see, there are a lot of decent rpg game these days like genshin impact or new world or black desert, it will be a lot of work yes, but it is very possible.

      Within 10 years, games of SAO's caliber, baring maybe the player counts (things haven't improved much on that end in the past 10 years 😅) will basically be nothing. If I can pretty much build a basic Aincrad in a week without too much effort, the things engines and asset libraries will enable in 10 years will render making games the size of the properties of SAO cakewalks (relatively speaking). After playing Zenith: The Last City this past week for my impressions video, my overall satisfaction with the state of VR games and VRMMOs went up immensely.

VR/AR stuff were not that mainstream but that's it.. in 2022 you got a soulless franchise with more and more mediocre games and continuations) I don't see why you are making stuff up to make me look bad. .-.

      I appreciate your insight here Dettoboi. There's definitely a difference in paths and goals here and I can certainly say I've had my ups and downs through out my journey.
      There was actually a point where I arguably had a similar position as you did back in 2018 when I released the "finale" this series. I was bothered by just how escapist and almost tragic the pursuit of full dive could be at time and wondered if the release of these videos was doing more harm than good. I spent a long while doing a series called "Prolog" where I basically documented my own pursuits into improving different skills, from my Japanese to working out. Took nearly a year before the vanity of that "grind" mindset got me completely exhausted and done with the matter, but I've grown to appreciate the pursuit of the technology from an entirely different position in the process. At this point, developing my VR Rig and watching the development is more of an appreciation of progression and development for me. Much like how gaming evolved from it's Atari and PONG era roots, we have the privilege to see VR do likewise from it's current Oculus Rift DK1 renaissance origins. Probably isn't doing much to improve the world in a way, but I've long since determined that's just not something I'm passionate about in particular. Closest thing to that I do is donating to charities like #TEAMSEAS from time to time and helping my nieces & nephews learn STEM skills like programming and robotics 😂
      For what its worth, I think it helps to know what about the whole Full Dive pursuit got me into this since I've come to it from a very different line of sight compared to most. Were it not for the pursuit of this tech, I probably would have been on the game development/artist career path much more directly since I had 0 interest in traditional engineering prior to wanting to have a full dive capable system. To me, rather than a means of escapism, I pursuit full dive technology from a creative desire to be able to appreciate my work far more directly than can be achieved through other means. I wanted to be a manga artist growing up and my dream back then would have been to see my work brought to life in an anime or game. I even worked together with someone on making an ISEKAI story "before it was cool 😂😎" about someone getting trapped in a game because I though the idea of being able to appreciate a virtual world directly was the coolest thing. By comparison, VR just lets me do that (without the whole getting stuck part 😅)
      A recent pleasure I've been having is being able to put on my Quest 2 and play the latest builds of my game as it's giving me a whole new angle from which to appreciate the work I've put in. Seeing Clara in VRoid and Blender was certainly nice, but seeing them animated before my eyes on the Quest 2 was almost on the same level as my first time using VR back in 2014. While I'm sure not everyone coming at this stuff is doing so from this kind of a perspective (I've seen plenty of people who wished they could be trapped in the game for real😓), it's definitely not the kind of things that interests me in my current position, though arguably that can itself be considered a form of privilege.
      Ironically enough, the game I'm developing (working title- NEET: Get a Life Simulator) is actually meant to address the escapist angle of gaming, VR, and the internet to an extent by giving the player a lens through which to see this situation from externally. Won't got into too much depth here since I've still got a ton of work to do on the game and I want to be EXTREMELY careful with how I touch the subject matter, but needless to say, the subject of escapism and the dangers there in is one I'm very concerned with and constantly analyze. I can only hope my game ends up communicating the ideas I have on the matter more clearly and lets people explore their own answers to these questions.

    the fact that vr has been a major success sense Sword Art Online air date of July 7, 2012 says something because i don't know about you but in 2012 I thought vr was nothing but a dream but today that dream as become a reality not in the way we thought back in 2012 but still for a pipe dream that is very very good. the fact that vr is in a very playable state to where kids and young adults can in joy it is amazing in its self. sword art online got one thing right this year 2022 is more or less the birth of vr to the mainstream. just thinking about it like the catwalk c 2 or the talk about psvr2 this is big because if vr lasts more then one generation its like the birth of a new industry in electronics. its simply amazing that we took something fantasy and made it some what reality in that short time Period.

    We really need a nonprofit organization that just dedicates itself passionately to solving the problems of full-dive. If we could get a few thousand people just to drop $5 a month we could sustain a small team of driven people who would work on this problem 80 hours a week. So dedicated that they'd teach themselves graduate level material to solve these problems. I'd be right there with them.

    Personally, I dont think we need exactly SAO to be released. We just need a VR MMO RPG, hell, maybe Final Fnatasy series will expand once more into MMO genre and create a VR MMO basing their experience in game design from current FF14, but refined and made strongly for VR.

      No worries. I can highly recommend looking into Zenith: The Last City in particular since it's relatively new and growing still. I'll be doing a video on it this upcoming Friday. For what it's worth, both of the games mentioned work on the Quest 2, so no need to drop a lot on a major PC or upgrading a current build if that's up your alley.
      In terms of play, they can be a bit movement heavy with swinging swords or aiming weapons, so if you haven't gotten VR due to space limitations, that's definitely a bit tough 😓.

    i dont like sao game when they dont look like sao. they arent anime. or even customizable. npcs dont feel good either. people dont make good npcs or movments and other things. people maybe put about between 1 - 4 months into games, but a good game takes about a 1 or 2 to make. vr chat is basically the only thing that is remotely close to full dive vr. but thats only because of the interal game structure. if the interal game structure is good, then the whole thing is better. so it would be better to start with the game develpment, then do the full dive for headsets.

    We ONLY need to make an AI that generates game worlds from an image or text description. Then another AI or huge alpha test team to report and fix bugs. With enough talent on board we could still meet the deadline.

      Without nerve gear there's still hope. It's very possible to mass produce a full body suit that includes not only haptics but also sensors to input data and electrodes to simulate damage.
      The final piece for a full dive mmorpg is connection and sync.

      Localized servers in each major city would reduce ping. With only 10k players in each lobby, connection requirements could be fairly high (esp. for pvp) and still have a solid player base of a few hundred thousand players or so. With a logout button, not all 10k would be on a server at once so that number may need tweaking given the scale of the world

    Can we make VR Sword art online in 2022 with full body tracking ? yes
    can we make it massive multiplayer with 10.000 player around at same time ? maybe ? 100 is possible but 10.000 ... idk
    Can we have it full dive ? no .
    To be honest , i prefer not to have any kind of full dive or dream dive that allow to feel the virtual world with our brain. And full body brain control is not as good as it sound.
    Also , i think i prefer gun gale online over sword art online.
