    AR like in Ordinal Scale needs the technology of Full Dive VR, because it directly effects your vision inside your brain and eyes.
    But for AR, it absolutely isn't required. We can use glasses and much more, sensors that are already on the glasses...
    We just need to find a way, how to bring so much technology inside a very small space. That should be much easier than Full Dive VR.
    Digitalization was the past, now the era of virtualization has begun.

    This could be something replacing mobiles(you can use the network for everything that a phone can like shopping, calling...etc), and since they just got into flexible mobiles, they aren't focusing on this side enough to actually have a stronger impact in the close future(it will definetly develop, but wont be enough for an ARMMO), if they would try to approach this from a different angle than they currently do, we could see some cool stuff even in a few years, but as it is right now, we cant ask for the same experience as we've seen it in the anime

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому +1

      We've got another 7 years till the comparable 2026 release date. Under most circumstances, I would think that's not enough time to get the improvements needed, but the amount of money I'm seeing poured into AR and knowledge that it's likely going to be the follow up/replacement to smartphones actually has me expecting a much faster rate of progress here. It's been fascinating to see how we started with the Galaxy Note Edge, then saw the curved edges become standard, and to seeing notches with the Essential phone and iPhone X, to now hole punch displays and fold-able displays. Shame for VR that the progressive increases in resolution we had decided to stop at 1440p, but AR is looking to be on a much healthier trajectory for the near future.
      These are some pretty exciting times :)

      @dankcore3039 5 років тому

      Virtual Dreamers This is all true, I'd probably be one of the happiest person to see a well working AR system in our economy in that close future, but with VR I could say that they have a different approach here either, they are trying to improve the screen resolution, while their goal should be to get rid of simple screens, and try to focus on the NerveGear kind of approach(but last time I checked this topic, they said that we don't have enough knowledge of our brains to try that, and it would be risky to test, it could injure the testers brain...etc and that is not quite allowed and not many people would want to risk their life for that)

  • @flummiball4668

    Sorry for my english. In my opinion, AR is realitiy very very soon. But fighting like Ordinal Scale will require Brain control. Imagine u are hitting to swords, but they are no real swords. So they will just pass each other. In this moment the device have to tell your brain, that your arm is not able to move any further. But i think that even this could be realitiy soon...

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому +2

      That's actually what happens Ordinal Scale. Brain tech can't actually solve the problem you described physically because our muscles aren't designed to stop like that and the physics of momentum would hurt you in these scenarios. That's a problem is Augmented Reality as a whole. It's just not safe to affect the player that way IRL. That's the reason why I mention that Ordinal scale and Augmented Reality have the same limits in the video.
      Only VR can do what you described well because of the lack of risk to the user and the reliable force feedback. Our current VR is basically AR pretending to be VR since it has this same problem, but a neural or intent based VR system doesn't haven't these problems.
      Basically, AR is just going to be fancy LARPing while VR is essentially being transferred to another world.

    One problem is that it's very difficult for the Quest and HMDs like it to work outside. Might work in twilight settings, but beyond that it's not quite there. However, the potential definitely is! I wouldn't be surprised if a Quest successor or something expanding on the capabilities of it would be able to get there.

    If you ask me it's just a more futuristic version of Pokémon go. The only difference is the action is happening right in front of your eyes instead of on your phone. I could think of a more realistic version thou. Why not make the Augma a pair of glasses instead of that weird antenna thing projecting stuff right on your eyes and put an earpiece in both ears. And ya know may not put graphics literally everywhere covering up the whole city. Either way, the idea of the Augma still seams more realistic than putting on headgear that shuts down your whole body.

    Since the MedQuest three is a thing now, we can do get a tandem app. That’ll work between VR and your phone with Meta Quest 3 or whatever device you have to Use your hotspot and then you would sync the device to your phone via Bluetooth.
    The app would basically use your GPS to tracking for in game reasons like events.
    On the other side would you would have the VR game which would work in tandem with the phone it would contain most of the gameplay features.

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому

      Nope, the anime shows you just lose your hp and you’re avatar dematerializes.
      Even IRL it’s one of the disadvantages of AR compared to VR. Haptics have to be weaker and have no real impact since real physics, momentum, and touch take priority, resulting in just some light touch feel from the game at best.
      The first AR game technology to try and let you get knock back from game damage outside of a controlled environment will be the last the moment someone gets hurt or killed while using it.
      If someone wants to get full feel out of their game, they either need to augment real things that do the impact or just play VR that had a haptic solution.

    • @VirtualDreamers

      That's a more worthwhile to ask here. If someone's expecting SAO, but IRL, they'll be disappointed. But if you think of it like next level LARPING, the appeal becomes more clear. Also worth noting, games like Pokemon will pretty much assure this stuff will print money in the long run, to say nothing of the more real world applications.

      The one in Ordinal Scale relies on directly communicating with are brain to overlay images like the nerve gear. In contrast to our current developments right now, we see the world through a type of display like glasses. The problem with a glasses type display is that it doesn't cover everything. So if you look above your glasses you would be pulled out of the experience. + A game like ordinal would require a good amount of processing power. Most VR generally connects with a computer to get that power and although we have headsets that don't need to connect with a computer it would be hard to compact it. That's why I reckon that either we need to accept wearing a box on are heads or settle with basic Augmented realities through something like glasses. That being said the moment we have something like the nerve gear something as compact as the one in the Ordinal Scale would be easy to create.

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому +1

      A bit of both. They can both become one device, but AR is going to be VASTLY more popular so long as humanity doesn't completely abandon the real world.
      I'd say AR will likely be more like Smartphone where it's iniquitous and used for just about everything where as VR will be akin to the current PC/Console market, where it's used heavily by a dedicated following/demographic, but that demographic still engages with the other product regularly.

    • @scrollingsquirrel9447

      Ah gotcha. So both might have a similar amount of adoption if they were the same device since afterall, you have no choice what you get then, but the use of the devices will skew a lot more towards AR. @kana22693 4 роки тому

    Yep, the only problems seem to be a lack of sensation and a bit of bulkiness. If you were to pick a medieval setting and duel with another player your swords would just pass through each other, for a true Ordinal Scale experience the AR machine needs to 'contract' your wrist muscles during the impact so it feels like your sword hit something solid but this would most likely require a full bodysuit which isn't feasible/convenient. Shooters are definitely feasible though! When you get shot you'd see red around your vision like in a FPS game.

    One question I got is, how safe would it really be? I mean you go out side with it, th e chance of getting hit by a car you cant see seems very likely. Basically how would real world dangers be applied?

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому +3

      For the most part, it would be about as safe as any other, more normal outdoor activity if it's done right.
      Unlike Pokemon Go, which currently depends on us taking our eyes to something that only covers a small portion of our vision (our phones), a proper AR system would essentially cover the majority of, if not all of your FOV in the AR world, modifying it to suit the desired experience. This usually relies on some kind of external tracking, for the purposes of environment comprehension and 3d specialization.
      In all likelihood, if something unexpected were to enter the play space, software would probably be set in place to either cancel out the simulation or alert you of its presence. All in all, it'd be no more dangerous that going outside larping would be right now if the developers don't go out of their way to risk the users safety.
      Ultimately though, AR and VR have very different strengths. To put it in more simple terms, AR will be the equivalent of going outside to play while VR will be what console/pc gaming is today. Each has their value and some people will gravitate more towards one than the other.

There are a lot of AR companies and designs coming up all the time now a days so it's really a question of which design manages to be both functional and appealing enough to catch on with the mainstream. Glasses is the most popular depiction, but we never really know with this kind of stuff. I'm willing to go outside running around with an Oculus Quest on my face, but I know that the vast majority of more normal people aren't as keen on that idea.

    Have you guys seen the new Hololens 2? I think its awesome.. Sadly, the price is insane, and as the video says, if prices don't lower, nobody would be able to buy the hardware, and if nobody can buy the hardware, software house will never invest tons of money to develop a game for it. Need to wait years to see something like Hololens 2 with a doable price.. If I'm right, actually it costs around 3500$. Not saying that are not worth it, there is a lot of developing behind those hardwares, but with that price, it can't join the 'gaming panorama'

    we already have all the technology needed, even before predicted in the anime. albeit, there still needs to be some work done and the game needs to be created, we now know for sure that we can makes this. even if its not through our brains senses being directly stimulated, we already have technology good enough to trick our brains into believing it.

      It's basically in the same camp as full dive, just without the same (no implants) limitation. If you skip the brain through and go for sensory organs and voluntary muscles directly, you can get pretty close to the same effect as full dive.

    so true ar on ordinal scale is in site by the time ordinal scale comes in the anime it will likely be as good as ordinal scale like if the tech gets a hair better and less bulky and cheaper it will be a hit like nothing ever seen before you could feel like you were in full dive vr game in some cases even if the day was right like going outside on a nice day say like 70 degrees and the wind is gently blowing and the sun is shining and you see a Pikachu and you can hear it to you grab your Pokeball controller on your hip you press a button to summon your pokemon to fight the pikachu it looks like the pokemon are really there to the point it's ridiculous you see them duke it out like in Pokemon the anime you catch the Pikachu after weakening it for a short moment in time you would feel like you where in the world of pokemon and you could do the same thing with digimon or monster rancher or some of the old final fantasy turn based combat all thought the only downside is you would not be about to do much more than boss and combat with it to make you feel like your there like really there depending on the day so playing games in ar is like harry potter in the sorcerer's stone where harry and ron where playing wizard chess but so cool being how we will get to see a glimpse of what fulldive vr could be like in more than likely 6 to 10 years

    So what are the odds of a “all in one” customizable AR game?
    I’m talking I wanna go Super Saiyan 3, use force lightning, AND have an anime Waifu all in one game... anything you can think of, you can put in the game. What are the odds of that?

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому

      100% depending on the quality you want. If you want Activision, EA, or Nintendo to make that, you're probably out of luck, but the indie scene has had things like that in VR chat for years now so you can bet you'll see that in AR.
      The intrinsic problem with customizability in games is that after a point, you're just asking the game developers to figure out a way for you to do the same thing they do, without having to as much work. I could set up the specific scenario you described in less than 2 hours in UE4 if someone paid me the money to do it, but asking to create a system that lets you create the customization and you're basically asking someone to make you a game developer. Nothing's stopping you so I'd go for it if you have a sincere interest in that opportunity.
      It's partially because I wanted to be able to make whatever kind of game or experience that I want that I started to programming, computer arts, and engineering. With those 3 skills, I can effectively do or build anything I want within the reach of my abilities.

      Virtual Dreamers all right, thanks! I absolutely can’t wait for this to become a thing! But... one more thing. How would simulating flight work, if at all?

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому

      @@keeganfirecloak4695 Flight works kind of terribly in AR and VR right now. It's not that we couldn't do it, but at that point, it's going to have to rely on what we call artificial locomotion, where you move with no stimulation or feedback on how you're doing so that your body can use to "ground" the movement, which makes it feel fake and takes you out of the experience.
      Only a future VR implementation where you can virtualize your movement inputs and create artificial haptic points would be able to handle that properly. AR isn't really the best medium for the job since it's goal is to make what we can already do IRL even more engaging rather than to expand what we can actually do.

    • @VirtualDreamers
      @VirtualDreamers  5 років тому

      Pretty much. The tech is getting better though and I'm genuinely shocked at how much money is being poured into this stuff. AR is just lucky that it's job is much easier to do than VRs and won't need as much time to reach the point where it's amazing. I think we're due for a 2007 iPhone reveal moment sometime in the next 10 years for AR.
