What a fantastic game that was and still is!
I’ve always played as Leonardo since he was the only character who had this awesome kick to the chin when being approached from behind. Every turtle had a distinct move when an enemy snuck up on em, but Leo‘s kick was by far the best one.
It felt so satisfying, clobbering a foot soldier to his near death, then turn your back on him on purpose and finishing him off with that pitch perfect kick under the nose that he never saw coming.
Probably the hands down best kick in any fighting game ever, only second to Sub-Zero‘s out-of-this-world Roundhouse kick in the original Mortal Kombat.
Oh - and you‘re spot on regarding the soundtrack. That‘s an All-Time classic!

This game is also very good speedrun game, and has its challenges. For example, on a casual gameplay Slash is the hardest boss in the game, because you have to hit him from behind and he has very cheap attacks and wakeups . But in the speedrun, you have to optimize how to defeat him, and you start by being behind him as the fight starts. Then you have to do a very specific move set, and he’s easily beaten.

You called it an arcade perfect port, which it really isn't, added levels and new bosses aside it also feels different when connecting with enemies, special moves take health and do more damage among too many differences to state. That said I actually prefer it to the arcade version or the reshelled remake of the arcade version (by alot). I also whole heartedly agree, it is the best 16 bit beat em up

David Brailsford It is a port, just not a "direct port" as many gamers would say.

Final Fight 3 is my fav beat em up ever. This one, while also great, doesn't focus that much on complexity of mechanics, but on fun. Of course, that's not a bad thing. But I just prefer FF3 combos, specials and variety of moves.

I agree. FF3, to me, is the best beat 'em up on the SNES

Prehistoric Cave turtle boss. Crocodile wearing clothes lol You mean Slash and Leatherhead lol I mean, you did refer to Rocksteady, Bebop, Baxter Stockman and the Rat King by name lol I'm just messing with you. I'm a big TMNT fan, so I know all of the characters. Great video. I enjoyed the retrospective. I wish it could have been longer because this is one of my favourite games on the Super Nintendo

I think the SNES port is actually better than the arcade version since they add a lot of new things. Slash replaces The weird sand boss, the technodrome level and star base levels are added, the only downside is being limited to 2 players

It's not a bad game. I'm not quite as into it as some people seem to be, but it's still fun. I haven't sit through the entire thing, I usually lean more toward NES games, so if I need turtles, I tend to play TMNT 2 or 3.
I understand this is SNES drunk, so it's about SNES games, but I would have liked to see mention of the Genesis version, Hyperstone Heist. It's slightly different, but it's well known that they're really similar games.
Also, just a suggestion, but when reviewing something nostalgic for nostalgic purposes, you should consider turning filters off. I mean, you don't HAVE to, I just think having it look as close to the original would be best in this kind of situation.

Hyperstone Heist was a train wreck ( just how awful the people writing game dialogue were, it was like they never even watched the show) also foot soldier colors were altered so that they didn't fit with the other konami games for which soldiers did what

It's amazing how Konami could just do no wrong, and then how they later could just do no right.
