      Terry Shaw I do lansdcapes for mecha, but yes, Mel's tips are invaluable. I recently chose a red overbrush for some seaside rock formations and it dried waaaaaay too red. Desaturated it with lots of brown washes and it looks fab now.

    Many years ago now, I ran track in high school. My high school was on top of a hill in the middle of what had been the Siegfried Line. We trained cross country, running up and down those hills. In my experience, the bottoms of the hills were muddy, the middles of the hills were muddy, and the tops of the hills were muddy. I don't think adding trenches would have made things _less_ muddy. 8-)
    That said, my opinion is that the earth is significantly too dark (brown rather than beige). Take a look at photos of anywhere in that area (Google maps satellite view, for instance) and you'll see the plowed fields are mostly yellowish or reddish beige. The same is basically true around Ypres or in the Hürtgenwald. (Though any really wet places would be darker, of course.)
    Quibbles aside, though, I really like both the modeling and this series. Good to see you back.

    • @joshjohnston7388
      @joshjohnston7388 6 років тому +2

      Doug Sundseth yeah anywhere water can collect, it will. No reason the trenches wouldn't be muddy (save for well engineered drainage). Take it from a guy who regularly hikes up a 1 kilometer canyon to a large lake.

    Hello Mel. I used to live near Stoke. Anyways, I discovered your channel by accident. Still not sure how, probably because I'm interested in history and military history. And one of your videos (the bunker tutorial - that was my first video) apperead on the side. Have to say even though I have little interest in table top war gaming ( not saying that it's a rubbish hobby, just not ever got involved with it). I do love strategy board games, and board games in general, and pc strategy gaming. Right I'm rambling on. Just wanted to say I've been watching your vids for a few day, subbed the other day as i was enjoying them so much. Have always wanted to make models, and think your content is absolutely brilliant. It's inspired me to give it a go, but have never done this sort of modelling before. I also think the way you present your vids and explain things is really good. Think you have a great personality for doing these sorts of videos. And the things you have made are amazing. Well, I better leave it at that, or i will be here all day 😋.Great content Mel, look forward to watching more of your videos. If you read this comment, thanks for taking the time to do so. All the best😊

    i absolutely love it but just food for thought, if you would really like to get full realism, trenches were never really curvy but rather went in zig-zag patterns in order to prevent opposing soldiers infiltrating the trenches being able to see straight down the trench, but then also to avoid the shock wave of a shell going off travelling through the trench
