The timing of this video is kind of unfortunate. My deepest sympathies to anyone who is living through a war right now. I have decided to make a donation to Save the Children. You can donate here too if you are interested. support.savethechildren.org/site/Donation2?df_id=5751&mfc_pref=T&5751.donation=form1
These things happen. I remember a company that put out a "mad bomber" fig the week before 911. Not they're fault, not your fault. Keep up the good work.
Great job on the factory. It looks amazing and now i know what a saw tooth roof and a muntin is. also, the alarming close-up was very effective. I heard tutorials work best when watched like a Bourne Identity fight scene.
😂
I love it how you make practicle wargaming terrain. Which actually looks realistic. There is mess and rubble AND IT'S ALL PLAYABLE!
This project is so real, and you are very talented. I love it
Fantastic!!! Also loving the blender to 3D print tutorial in addition to your usual crafting madness.... well done!!
Thank you very much!
I love the random vocabulary-trivia sprinkled throughout the video :D
Nice one Eric. Kudos for the shoutout to RFDHobby. Actually guys, this fellow has recently had his house burnt down in a fire. Thankfully nobody got hurt, but the house itself is completely ruined. It would be good from the community to support him anyway we can. At least go check his channel and like and comment on his videos.
Very cool, I like how you used some of your Necromunda Builds in conjunction with this!
Definitely going to use this tutorial for my Bolt action Stalingrad project.
I am very intrested in seeing more of these builds! This one is so darn playable and i really admire the thoughtfulness you put into making it so.
Reminds me of the place Alex Murphy became Robocop. I think that means you succeeded tremendously well!
Eric, I ALWAYS love your builds! So realistic, and I love the background research you do to make them look that way!
Here's something that I think about though... Where is the rest of the building that collapsed? Did somebody come along and neatly clean up the debris but decided to leave the rest of the dilapidated building intact? It's something I see constantly in a lot of "ruins" builds that otherwise look awesome.
Maybe making the entire building and then destroying pieces of it, to leave scattered would give just the right amount of debris that should be left over. You started it here with the collapsed roof, but what about the walls? Look at reference photos of ruined buildings and walls. The debris is pretty much NEVER taken away. Even in really old structures it's always there somewhere.
I practically never critique your artwork because it is SO amazing. But I feel like adding appropriate debris that makes it look like part of the building actually came down (and didn't just get eaten by a interdimensional vortex or something) would make it so much more realistic.
Seriously, the rest of the structure looks AMAZING, it's just that little detail that keeps it from looking completely realistic.
In some cases, like Mordheim, the collapsed building pieces have been taken away to build barricades or be burnt for fuel. In this case, there is a significant amount of wreckage and rubble in the building, but there are always tradeoffs between realism, playability, fragility, and how much time you invest into the model
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Agreed Eric. Definitely a tradeoff in what the builder is going for. This one probably isn't even the one to pick on because there is a bit of debris added in. Cool build regardless. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
I shrunk your measurements by about 60% to fit my upscaled battlefield models. Worked perfect
This is so cool! My favorite part was the use of the dirty water as wash :D
I don't play 40k but will for sure make some factory's for my game. Great tutorial!
awesome!! many thanks for the tip of importing an svg in blender to extrude a heightfield stl!!!
Great build! Love the corrugated paper and your 3D printed windows look epic. I’ve been thinking of doing a factory type build for a while.
Nice work Eric!
Definitely interesting in more quick and simple scifi/modern builds like this.
This was fantastic Eric! Looks amazing. Great video and inspiring to build this one myself.
I love this build and your channel in general been subscribed for a long time. A cheaper alternative for the windows instead of using a 3D printer is to just cut thin strips of medium-weight chipboard like you did for the I-beam and then glue them into a grid that fits your window cutouts. A lot faster and you won't develop carpal tunnel and you don't need a 3D printer.
Really nice detail another amazing build!
Loved it. Yes, make more buildings like this.
I always know going into one of your videos, alongside the crafting tips, im about to pick up some random facts.
I've been struggling to finish a similar project, but this gives me inspiration!
honestly i could see myself doing this. like a lot of other build guides i wouldnt really attempt, but this looks pretty beginner friendly :)
Nice! Easy to make and looks great!
Interesting concept for European factories, well executed. Cheers Eric.
Thanks Atholl!
Yes more please! Great build and really like the leman russ as well.
Love all your terrain videos :D
More like this sounds awesome
Man! You are good at what you do!
Nice looking build
Amazing work as usual!
that's badass. nice work!
Loved it. More would be great
Eric: *Breathes*
Me: Genius!
i love these terrain build guides, keep them coming!
very unique, I dig it
Entertaining, inspiring and educational. Thanks
Thanks iain!
Excellent content. Stepping up the game when it comes to terrain is a must in today's game.
Very cool piece! 👍🏻
I had no clue Illustrator was compatible with Blender. Great video as always.
epic build! i bought some foam board yesterday im gonna try making something like this
Thank You Sir, You are a VERY TALENTED Man. Thanks for Your show. I've made several of Your projects, this one will be another!!! LOL
Great video. Thanks
Great video as always! Would be very interested in more of these and necromunda style buildings.
One question, do you make long strips of the ibeam then cut to lengths or do you measure the required length first and build the chipboard ibeams to that length? If you make long strips, how do you cut to length without the 3 pieces breaking apart?
Looks great, not much reason you couldn't use this for Stalingrad or other historical games either
yay more content i love your channel i always watch it when im doing some crafts with my wife in the dinning room keep it up!!
you could do some silos. grat video.
I just had an idea for a future project!!! Dude, how do you like the idea of nuclear factory smoke stacks?
I have a vyper. I only use a brim if it just wont print without
It seems to help. I had some adhesion issues with some other spindly things before
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop cheap hair spray. I rarely even clean the plate.
enjoyable video content
No graffiti? Great vid tho, definitely want to try this too
Very unctuous video. 👍
Can you make broken glass panels with a 3D printer from some transparent matter? I know it will be a time-consuming project to put all of those in place, but it would make this terrain even cooler!
You could use the clear plastic from toy packaging, cut to size then roughed up with a hobby knife. Eric will have a steady supply as the kid toys start rolling in ;)
@@PaintingTableVideos The method you mentioned is far easier than mine, so thanks!
If you don't have a 3d printer, consider using a sheet of clear plastic with black paper strips to divide into panes. then just cut out the panes you want damaged and you can grime up the windows too
My prayers go out to Ukraine at this unbelievable time.
This was an amazing tutorial, the end product was breathtaking.
How can we be expected to teach children to read when they cant even fit in the building
🐜🐜🐜
You can share the Windows frame stl You know 😉
Great tutorial! Excellent work! The only suggestion I could give is to never trust google translate for latin :)
Does anyone know if using chipboard as a base and sprsying it with glue or washes or other liquids will make it warp?
Yes, it will warp if you totally soak it. If you seal it with mod podge first it will be resistant to a reasonable amount of washes etc
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop thank you!
👍
literally watching this with a 4 day old oil wash on my mini that hasn't dried.. now i know LOL. anyone have any tips for drying after the fact or am i doomed.
These videos a re great! Or incredibly demoralizing. Huh, maybe both.
Is this O scale size?
Pretty much! The stairs are certainly o scale. I made it for 28/32mm wargaming
Nicely done! 🙂
Although, I feel it could of used some S A N D (it's been a while)...
Since i could…. Hold my head up high

I never noticed that about sawtooth roofs being the universal symbol for "factory". Wow. Nice build too!
One of those things you will never unsee!
The instructions on bringing a file from illustrator to blender is going to be a game-winner for me. Thanks!
Nice!! I knew someone would appreciate that!
I really appreciate this video as a distraction from the war in Ukraine. If we could all be making model tanks and war dioramas instead of bombing children, then the world would be a much better place. I am about to make a diorama and will be using mod podge mixed with paint and also spraycans instead of airbrush because that's where I'm at right now.
Simple builds like this when executed by a pro are just great. Anyone can do them and if you take a little extra time they look A+. Great video, man! Would love more of these simple and versatile builds.
Great build! The sawtooth roof and explanation is the kind of attention to detail and research that I really appreciate from your channel. Keep up the good work!
So glad you chose to design and print those windows in the end....
Welcome to the dark side of crafting.
I'm gonna start calling you Knarb Vader
Reminds me of the old joke...How many bluegrass musicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Seven. One to change it, and six to complain that it's electric!
@@DungeonMasterpiece Is it possible to learn this power?..... Not from a Scratch Builder....
@@KnarbMakes 😂😂
Another useful, well-made video. Despite the shaky cam. Well done, sir!
For those who do not have a 3D printer: Check with your local libraries. In the USA, many of them have one that they will let you use. You will have to pay a small fee, of course. Not all libraries have one, but a surprising number of them do.
Very cool look to this, Eric. The roofline and muntins (today I learned) add a ton, and it's great to see RFD's techniques spreading. That guy is seriously good at urban terrain.
great video.young peoples can use these videos to learn for school projects. as for the war goes on,i am 70yrs.old and a war was going on then and one will be going on when i died.you just do your channel and teach peoples how to have fun.this old man will keep watching.
God bless brother.
goes hard as always, windows were a great touch. 3D printed bits add so much when combined with more traditional methods of terrain making, they look so good when mixed together well.
I really like it. Something different than the usual industrial builds. Looks simple but very nice. I like these kind of styles to sell a (for me) realistic industrial district.
Love this build Eric. I definitely need one of these. Cheers mate.
Really love this build - it's got everything. It looks great, would fit on a variety of battlefields, and it's really gameable with the walkways and space for a tank to trundle through. Great job.
I'm tempted to give it a go myself, just a bit concerned about storage. But I could probably make it as two separate L pieces, or make the top and bottom floors separately?
"still a growing channel" BWHAHA totally lost it
I am still growing though!!
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop oh I was more laughing at your chuckle after saying it 😂😂
Didn't seem to take that long but really fleshes out your battlefield/industrial terrain
Hey! I loved the video. Great introduction to your channel and I’ll definitely be subscribing! For the lettering on your sign you can totally use your current printer, you just need to get a .25mm nozzle head. They are perfect for small detail prints and make words way more readable!
Pretty sure GW didn't like the word either so they made up their own faux Latin one. Their "high gothic" word for factory seems to be Manufactorum, like the old Cities of Death buildings for example. Great build.
Came here to say this. No reason that the dialect word on Ericsworld can't be "Mercium" tho 🙂
Exactly the inspiration I needed for my scratch building today.
You know, if you mixed in a bit of fine sand with the modpodge and paint when you went over the parts that would be metal, it would improve the rust effects.
I can never un-see muntins now on all those abandoned buildings that I love so much. Great build; you are in fine form even though I suspect kind of sleepless these days. Congrats on the build and belated congrats on the kid!
Mercium. Only one letter transposition away from M-eric-um. "There is no such thing as coincidence."
Genial 👍👍 my friend magnific work 🤩🤩💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎👌🌄🙏
Best inspirational building channel out there
thank you! I reallly appreciate it
Love this style of terrain, I would like to see more.
You can use something like SuperSlicer (free slicer fork of PrusaSlicer which is a fork of Slic3r) to run a bunch of calibration on your FDM printer to improve that finish. Looks like you are under-extruding, for example. A tuned printer makes a huge different and can be hard to do without guidance.
Very nice work! I think some sort of basic masked off color blocking would help visually break it up a little, like a broad color strip along the ground, like 3 feet tall, one or two of the panels being an off colored metal, etc... But man, overall that turnout out really stunning, and would look great on any table!
The bland colour scheme is a frequent critique of my work, and fair enough, people have different preferences . But i intentionally keep my pieces somewhat drab and monotone due to their role as background terrain. If i have my bright red blood angels fighting green biel tan in front of this building, the whole scene reads better if there are no contrasting colours interjected by the background terrain piece.
A totally valid approach to be sure! The results are always excellent.
Please dont tell me im the only one who looked at the final results and thought... Robocop.
"They're oily because they're........ Oil paints." LOL made me laugh
Just got to the comment about zooming in the camera while you were spraying…. Hahahaha!
Great for gameplay - awesome usage of corrugated cardboard
That looks very nice! Good morning 🫂🤝
First
UA-cam strikes again.. Never got the notification for this either 🤬 Anyway - awesome build as always 👌Looks so freskin cool!
Thankyou for this "easymaking" piece of terrain. I eventually followed the instructions and built the same with my boy, not as good as yours but still looks very good! We are now thinking about so many scenarii to play with it!
