    Those SD Blue Rays are a cool concept. Get a lot more episodes on less disc. Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles should do that.

    SDBD is a great idea kinda makes me wish Mill Creek put The Ultraman, Ultraman 80, the TDG trilogy, and Ultraseven X on that format

      UltraSeven X is actually in HD from day 1, and it's getting HDBD release for the first time in the world.

    Gotta say, the spines of Discotek's SDBD Sonic releases look mighty nice lined up together! Here's hoping they can get ahold of more! (Like a certain currently out of print original video animation.🤞🤞🤞)
    Really blows that the Raimi Spidey Trilogy Blu-ray set with the bonus disc is OOP now. No Way Home made me want to finally pick up all of the past movies physically and to just barely miss out on a neat release with an additional cut of 3 is a real shame. Oh well. At least the digital code still includes it!

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  2 роки тому +1

      For sure. Having all those releases together is so satisfying
      I’m surprised Sony isn’t doing some big box set of Spider-Man movies with all the cuts included

    Didn’t know SDBD’s were a thing!
    I had a similar disappointment when I purchased T2 on Blu-Ray for the first time. It was probably around 2007, but the version of T2 on Blu-Ray I purchased looked like a simple upscaled version of the standard def release.
    Now that I know there’s an editor’s cut of Spider-Man 3, I need to find a way to watch it.

      Glad to be informative!
      Someone needs to get the rights to T2 ripped away from Canal and Lionsgate and do a proper remaster

    SDBD should charge the same price of the dvd set. BD are more expensive than DVD, but you’re using significantly less discs.

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  2 роки тому +1

      For sure. SD video should be around the same price no matter the format

    My big question about SD BD is this...
    Is it truly *interlaced 4:3* SD video that's compatible with an actual CRT TV just like a DVD, or is it designed to be upscaled for HDTVs?

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  9 місяців тому +3

      I’m not sure about CRT compatibility with a Blu-Ray player, but the SDBD discs are SD video output, no upscaling

  • @NickMichalak

    Getting SD on Blu-ray means better compression from more advanced video and audio codecs. I wouldn’t mind DS9 getting that treatment because all those discs are terrible to deal with. The Voyager complete series set is a mess. I need to get different cases for that.

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  Рік тому +1

      SD Blu-Ray would be great for DS9 and VOY. Especially would be nice to have normal bonus features menus instead of the scavenger hunt like ones on the DVDs

    The star wars 4ks do have HDR just not Dolby vision
    The original trilogy look far better in 4k despite not being perfect (some light dnr) especially empire which looks incredible plus Atmos is a huge upgrade for the prequals

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  Рік тому +2

      That's correct. I made a mistake in my phrasing. The Atmos on the prequels is very nice

    TMNT is in dire need of at least an SD Blu Ray. Not just for 1987 and 2003 but especially 2012. For a show that aired in HD half the time, why did they only stick to DVDs? Maybe they only have the HD versions on Paramount Plus to deviate away from discs idk...

    • @Soundout12

      There’s a lot of mentality in the industry that “Kids Shows don’t deserves Blu-Rays” which is so reductive and deprives us of great releases

    I have the Discotek Cyborg 009 - The Cyborg Soldier or just Cyborg 009 (2001) for short, and I was kinda disappointed in terms of picture quality. I wanted to have a digital copy of my own so I ripped the video from my copy into REMUX mkvs, grabbed the raw .h264 and got the .dgi files to index the .h264 files and then design some simple scripts to deinterlace and add several fixes and I was annoyed at the cropping which led to weird framing issues. It was aggravating to split a single episode into 100+ mini segments. However if I look at the older Japanese DVD release, there wasn't any weird framing at all. Sure the SDBD was sharper, had less color banding, a little cleaner, and had the subtitles but it was horribly cropped. They sharpen the image by shrinking the image resolution and they didn't really fix the rainbowing, dot crawling, haloing and other issues found on the Japanese DVDs, but the sharpening actually highlights those issues a bit more unfortunately so it's kinda a dud honestly and I was annoyed that I bought it. The Japanese didn't use PCM files unlike like some other DVDs with avex mode music but it included a Stereo AC3 track and a 5.1 Surround AC3 track so there was a bit more options especially if you were using headphones, unlike the SDBD although the SDBD has the dub which I don't actually like.
    It's not a bad format but they need to have more QC. However, Votoms actually has a 1080p release in Japan and I think those are better than the SDBD.

    11:35 - And there it is! The most cursed movie for home video releases. T2.
    Also, I thought the 4K Star Wars releases had HDR10, just not Dolby Vision.

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  2 роки тому

      Its amazing how T2 is one of the most popular movies ever yet it's not had one good release.
      That sounds more correct. I know they lack something the Disney+ uploads have and either way, that weird mix of film and CG is just not the greatest to look at

    I'll be honest, I still prefer DVD over Blu-ray and 4K simply because I actually didn't get a Blu-ray player until 2016. I had a couple of Blu-rays that also came with the DVD disc so I could still watch the movie, but 2016 was the first time I got a Blu-ray player. So I have alot more DVDs in my collection than I do DVD. That and DVDs are cheaper and I find them all the time at second hand stores, flea markets, and local geek sales and conventions. Also I always find older DVDs like the first releases for Disney movies (I have the 1999 Limited Issue DVD release of The Jungle Book for example). I also have the snapper cases for The NeverEnding Story, The Mask, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
